The staff was very friendly and helpful when they were checking me in and helping me order contacts. Dr. Rosen was very welcoming and efficient. I was also able to track my order through meet marlo which was nice. There was some confusion when I went to pick up my contacts, the person assisting me was looking around and couldn't initially find it but then someone else eventually found it like a few minutes later (which was fine but the first person kind of had an attitude and was questioning whether or not I really ordered. I went to Maximeyes this morning because my FSA money will soon be defunct. The lovely owner, Steven, quickly looked up my insurance (turns out I had some I could still use!) and began showing me gorgeous glasses right away. Their frames are elegant and there's always a beautiful variety. Within 15 minutes or so we'd found a few possibilities--I wish I could've bought them all! (It's like a candy store for adults.) I ended up getting a lovely pair of cat's eye glasses made in Italy from a small company I'd never heard of before and they are SO chic and SO comfortable. Steven is endless fun and so helpful/knowledgable and I cannot wait to pick up these beauties in a few weeks. It's wonderful to go in a store where everyone's so friendly and everything just works--always. I've been going here for a decade and any time I've bought glasses anywhere else, I've regretted it. It has been over 11 years since I left my first review for this Optical store in Chelsea and I have to say everything is as good as ever (except for my sight). Exam was on time and the same doctor still there, still as great as ever. Patient, courteous and professional. Staff in store were very helpful. Had the best experience at Maximeyes today! I was able to book an appointment easily on zocdoc. When I arrived they had all of my insurance information printed and were able to explain it more in depth to me. I was promptly seen by Dr. Rosen once I was all checked in! She was so sweet, listened to everything I had to say, and completed the check up quickly and thoroughly. They were able to order samples of new contacts for me to try out before buying a larger supply. There are tons of glasses to choose from, including sunglasses! I tried on plenty of different styles before finding the ones I decided to buy. Everyone was so sweet and helpful when trying to decide which frames to get. I've been having some eye issues and Dr Jolie did not end up helping me with them. I feel bad because she's nice, but at the end of the day I ended up having to go to another optometrist so seeing her kind of failed at the one thing that it was supposed to do. We got the prescription pretty wrong the first time, and when I went back after my exam saying that the trial contacts felt way too strong she said I was wrong but didn't have time to explain why (and then we did a test and I was right). She then gave me some new contacts and a prescription that didn't match the contacts, and first said the prescription was right then said the contacts were right. So while she was nice, in the end I didn't feel like I could trust the results, and plus we hadn't figured out the underlying issues. So I went to another nearby optometrist and they were lovely and got me sorted. read more

I had a genuinely decent experience at Maximeyes, however, this review is specifically related to their customer service and the failure to provide a PD, which is necessary for buying glasses in the future online. I purchased my glasses from Maximeyes, spending a good amount of money. I was assured by the rep that my PD would be included in my prescription. While going through my medical records I noticed my PD was not included so I called to address this mistake. The rep got frustrated and said he could not give that out because of their insurance. Let's be real - this isn't an insurance liability. It's the fact that stores like these guys, and so many others, do not want you buying glasses online. They want you to come in and spend more and more money with them. Then they dress it up as "for your own safety." Nah, this is for your pocketbook's safety. My partner needed a new pair of glasses and I was going to refer her to Maximeyes, but not anymore. I've happily referred friends and family to other practices when they treat their patients with respect. Finally, it is within a patient's rights to receive their PD with their prescription if the PD is measured - this in accordance with the provisions of sections 29.1(b)(7) and 29.2(b) of the Rules of the Board of Regents and section 18 of the Public Health Law. "Failure to record a measurement that the ophthalmic dispenser has taken may be grounds for a charge of unprofessional conduct under section 29.2(a)(3) of the Rules of the Board of Regents, which requires all health professionals "to maintain a record for each patient which accurately reflects the evaluation and treatment of the patient...."" read more

I'd always gotten my eyeglasses in Chinatown - my family even drove down from CT to get them! With a wide Asian face and no nose bridge, it's always a challenge to find frames that fit. Jim was very patient & helpful with me. I did shop around to other stores and decided to go with MaximEyes. I also splurged and went for Jim's suggestion of the super thin Zeiss digital hd lens. So glad I did as they are amazing and as I usually have coke bottle glass lens. They are certainly the most expensive frames + lens I've ever gotten but they're also the lightest weight ones I've ever gotten. Originally estimated 21 business days, but they arrived 2 weeks later. Jim took the time to adjust them and did so again a few days later when I went back in as they felt a bit off. As others have mentioned, adjustments are done free here. I had a great experience at Maximeyes. For context, I am extremely nearsighted. I wear RGP lenses out of medical need, and I had a good exam with all the needed extra care due to my vision. The glasses and contacts I got have been great--they got the prescription on both of them right the very first time, which isn't something I can say for a couple other places I've been to. I've been going to Maximeyes for almost 10 years now and I never took the time to leave a review until now. This afternoon, I went in with a pair of cracked frames and wanted to reuse the lenses. Within 40 minutes, Maximeyes was able to find another frame that 1) fit me the best and probably were the best looking pair of glasses that I've worn in a long time and 2) was able to reuse my current lenses. Although it seemed like it was a miracle to get this all done in such a short time, I attribute this all to the knowledge and expertise of the folks that work here. My experience here was such a pleasant surprise. It was about 5 degrees out on a Friday and I really wanted to get my optometrist appointment out of the way once and for all. I went on my insurance's website and found a place, called them and made a very last min, same day appointment. Fast forward, I walked to where I thought was where I was supposed to be and that optometrist was closed down and out of business. I called the number again (which I guess is now being forwarded to Maximeyes) and they informed me of their location and that they are taking over the patients that went out of business. I was frozen and pissed off, feeling like maybe this was gonna be a little sketchy? Finally I arrived and was greeted by this sweet girl named Yelena/Elena? She checked me in and was great from the start. While I was waiting for the doctor, we walked around the store and went through a million frames and she was super patient and honest in helping me find the perfect pair for me. At one point she went over to another case across the room and grabbed a few pairs for me to try. This is how I found my pair! I couldn't have picked something better for myself...and they were significantly cheaper than what I was looking at. She gave me lots of different pairs that ranged in price and I thought that it was great she wasn't just trying to sell me the most expensive. This made me feel like it was most important for her to help me find the pair that worked for me most, rather than just sell me the most expensive. The frame options were great, they had a lot of awesome styles and the location overall is super cute and not stuffy like optometrist offices can be. Then for my eye exam, the doctor was great. She's very chill and relaxed but takes her time in a meaningful way. I really felt like she was thorough and sweet. I was originally looking for a place around Harold Square (but had some bad experiences there) and this was really convenient just taking the F down one stop. What a nightmare this place is. Better off anywhere else. First of all, the doctor is not very thorough with the exam. She rushes through before you are 100% satisfied with the clarity of what you are dictating from the screen. As a result I was given the wrong prescription and an Ophthalmologist properly corrected it. This happens all the time and normally you go back for a refitting etc. but something else about this place was a complete dealbreaker for me: the staff. They don't really care about the patients in the same way that I've experienced eye-care staff at other clinics -- ones who truly care about your health more than anything, making things easier for you above anything else. Instead, the staff here is quite abrasive, mistrustful and unforgiving. They don't make things easy for you even under extenuating circumstances. I just don't understand why the staff, the people who are unqualified, have to be the ones that destroy your relationship with a doctor/clinic. Jim or Tim at front desk stands out as someone who should not be working in customer service. Give your money to another clinic. There are so many; this place does not deserve your business. read more

I try and get referred to doctors through friends and family but could not in this instance, so there was some worry on my end about finding a doctor through a website but... my experience was fantastic! My daughter and I stopped by Maximeyes were greeted by a friendly gentleman who'd asked how he could help us. I explained that we needed our glasses adjusted. He first took mine to the back...to his superhero lair. All the cool superheroes have them. Anywho, after a few short minutes, he returned with my glasses. I tried them on and...WOW! Better than new! He'd replaced the lil silicone pads and everything. He then took my daughter's glasses to his lair and when he returned, she was very pleased with the adjustment as well. I took out my wallet and asked "how much?" Know what he said? "A smile." Dude!!!! I don't even know his name. Like Lois in 1978's Superman: The Movie after Superman had saved her from the helicopter and she was all, "Wait!...Who...are you?" And, Superman was all, "a friend." First time I visited was fine -- nothing spectacular, and nothing bad. But in follow-up visits the staff has been unhelpful and, really, just kind of rude. I returned asking for assistance on a pair of glasses - prescription from maximeyes, but bought from somewhere else. I'd had some issues and wasn't sure if pupillary distance was correct or even if my prescription was right. I was scheduled to return my glasses to the store where I purchased them, but decided to stop by before I did. The front desk staff couldn't have been less helpful. No matter what your "policy" is, basic customer service should include listening, and at least some signs of empathy. This place is incredibly convenient to my job, but I'm going to find somewhere else. I suggest you do the same. read more

Today I had an appointment with the Optometrist Jolie Turkmen and she was really great. She was patient and engaging in answering questions about my eye health as well random questions about eye health in general. She also gave me suggests on the best ways to care for my eyes beyond buying new products. I also liked how personable she was, she seemed to genuinely want to know more about the work I do i.e. why I stare at computers all day long lol. I even enjoyed the time I spent waiting for my prescription to print with Jim Pilat. He was very personable and helpful. Attention: My concern with this business is the way they handle Personal Information, specifically Social Security Numbers. The sales rep wanted to verify my coverage and asked for my Social Security #. He used the computer in the middle of the store and as I stood next to him I noticed the Social Security text box field on the page displayed other customers' social security numbers. The issue is this field was using "auto fill" for social security, which is why it displayed other people's numbers. I immediately expressed my concern but the sales rep brushed it off and pretended it's normal. The attitude of the sales rep was highly questionable and this is an illegal practice of mishandling PI. I do not trust a business that: 1) doesn't have adequate security/technology to manage PI 2) doesn't train employees how to handle Personal Information (SSN) and how to speak to customers read more

Great little gem of a place in Chelsea for those looking for quality eye care at good prices and also those interested in high fashion eyewear. The staff is very friendly and helpful and I can't count how many times I've stopped by to have eyeglasses adjusted, screws replaced or tightened, etc... which they gladly do without charge or complaint. Maximeyes is exactly what you'd expect from a small independent shop which is above and beyond what you'd find at a chain store. Another thing I like is that you can have everything explained clearly with what services or products you're getting. I got glasses from Cohen's Optical years ago and misread some notation on a contract and ended up paying $125 more than I originally thought which got me to swear off chain stores. Note: Another interesting thing here is that they do a fashion consultation with you to match the glasses you to your face, hairstyle and overall personal style. Do not go here. The positive reviews seem to be fake. I have the same experience as the negative reviews so those are real. Worst ever service people working up front. The last time I went in, they gave me a hard time because I don't buy my contact lenses from them. Apparently, they have a note in the system not to give me any extra spares, when I've only asked twice in the three years that I've been going there. I get very attached to things...like my CA driver's license. Even though I've been in NY for over 5 years, I just keep renewing that thing. And I practically cried when I had to clean out my room and throw out everything from first grade on (hello kitty pencil box, i still miss you). So when I found out that my optometrist on the west coast, who I've been going to for years, didn't accept my new insurance (Davis Vision), I was upset. After moving to the area and starting at a new company, I was in the market for new contacts and glasses. With my yearly allowance, it was time to get a whole new set. I did a little research here and there, both on Yelp and on Cigna's website, and came across this little gem called Maximeyes Optical. The Yelp reviews were pretty solid, it was covered under my insurance plan, and they had the brands of glasses that I was interested in. With a quick phone call, I was able to set up my appointment on a Saturday morning, which was incredibly since I'm usually incredibly busy on the weekdays. When I came here Saturday morning, my insurance information was taken down and then I went to go see the optometrist in the back for my eye exam. Everything went smoothly, and the optometrist was incredibly nice. After about 20 minutes or so, I was pretty much good to go with my prescription. Next, I went back out to the showroom floor and proceeded to choose my new frames. At Maximeyes, they carry a wide variety of brands, but I was pretty much there to get some new Oliver Peoples or ic Berlin. I ended up settling on a pair of Oliver Peoples, which, by the way, I incredibly love to death. Picking the lenses was a little more complex, being that they had different weights and thickness to them, but with an easy cheat sheet, it wasn't too hard to navigate. In total, I spent about $560 after my $300 deductible for a pair of Oliver Peoples glasses and 4 months worth of Acuvue contacts. By Tuesday (2 business days), my glasses and contacts were ready to be picked up. How incredible is that? Maximeyes is incredibly fast, has great customer service, and a solid selection of frames. I mean, what's there not to love about this spot? Next year when my allowance resets, I know where I'm going. read more

I needed an eye exam done because apparently you can't renew your contact lens prescription if you haven't had your eyes checked within the year. I'm originally from Cali where I regularly see an optometrist who I have gained trust for in the last years. I have this weird thing about eyes - I hate anyone touching them, hate seeing other people touch their own eyeballs, etc. Needless to say, i don't just let anyone touch my eyes. But since I'm now in NY and I didn't want to fork over $300 to fly back to Cali, I decided to try my luck and find an optometrist here. I actually found this place through yelp and chose it because people were ranting and raving about this place, it was close to my house and my insurance covered it. I made an appointment and they gave me one within the week. +1 star. It's the day of my appointment, I walk in and I'm greeted by the friendly receptionist. +1 star i sign in and this lady takes me to this back room without introducing herself or even saying hi. Mind you, I'm in the healthcare field and not giving an introduction is breaking the number one cardinal rule of patient care. Ummm, who are you and are you authorized to touch my EYE of all things?? The rest of the appointment went by pretty smoothly. I felt like she rushed a little bit but I suppose she knew what she was doing. Her equipment was a kinda old school but she's the only OD and theres only one room, not a big deal. At the end, the optometrist gives me my prescription and orders a years supply of contacts for me. She even hooked up with a rebate for my contact order. That sorta made up for her lack of introduction. + 1 star. Before I leave, I thank the OD and the receptionist, grab a card and say "you're Dr. Rosen right?" This place is great. Within a few minutes of walking in, someone had come over and asked what I was looking for. He continued to work with me, bring over options (I tried on a lot), and offer his opinions (which were all pretty much spot on) until I found a pair I was happy with. As I was ordering the glasses, there was an issue with my insurance (thanks to an optician's office I went to). They took the time to call my insurance themselves as sort out the issue so I wouldn't have to come back the next day. You don't find this kind of customer service all the time. When I went to pick up my glasses, they took the time to make sure everything fit perfectly. I will for sure come back here next time I need glasses. I'm very glad I took the time to browse eye care shops on Yelp before choosing one. It had been a while since I wore contacts, so I wanted to find a place that had a record of good customer service. Maximeyes Optical had some of the highest reviews in the city...and they definitely lived up to the hype during my visit. Their associates were very helpful in scheduling my appointment and made me feel welcome when I first arrived (thanks Jim!). The shop has a lot of personality and features bold artwork, bright furniture and a broad selections of frames. It's also a 10 minute walk from my office which I love. Not only is the staff conversational, they are also dedicated to keeping customers comfortable and informed. They went above and beyond to make sure I understood my insurance coverage, and even walked me through their frame selection while I was waiting for my exam. Though I was just in the market for lenses, it was nice to casually try on a few frames. They offer a broad range of stylish, high-end eyeglasses that I'm sure many customers would enjoy. A bit pricy for me, but something to consider when I'm ready to go back to wearing glasses. The optometrist asked me a lot of questions before and during my exam to make sure we found the best contacts to meet my needs. And even though they felt pretty strange at first, I'm extremely happy and comfortable with my new vision 2 weeks later. Jim was also thoughtful in recommending a contact lens package that would save me a lot of money. Combined with my insurance coverage and a rebate, I only spent $20 on a full-year's supply of lenses. All in all, my experience with Maximeyes Optical has been the best I've ever had with any eye care provider. No waiting. No hassle. Just quick, friendly service. Not only did I fly from Utah and Dallas on two seperate occasions to come here, but I don't regret it at all. Lets start off with Jim. He is an expert at what he does. He is not only friendly, personalbe, and knowledgable...but he'll work with you no matter how annoying you can be. He has an eye for faces and glasses and like most reviewers...his first 5 picks are probably the one's you'll go with b/c he just picks the right ones for YOU! My 6 year old Ray Ban aviators were in awful shape. The frame was missing a screw, the lenses were scuffed, and the sunglasses were so stretched out that they no longer really fit my face. I let the proprietor know that I had not bought the sunglasses at Maximeyes, and he didn't bat an eyelash. He happily repaired the frame, buffed the lenses and tightened the sunglasses to better fit my face. He made my old sunglasses look as new as the Ray Bans on his shelf (they have a great selection of sunglasses here!) I will definitely be back. The reviews for Maximeyes are well deserved. The two gentleman at the front were the nicest and most helpful, and Dr. Rosen was quick and efficient but thorough. Prices were completely fair. What a rarity to walk in to any doctor's office in NYC, get seen really close to the time you were scheduled (nobody's perfect), and get treated like a person and not a nuisance. I have a small head and require narrow frames which are difficult to find in my size, and very few sales people pay attention to that when recommending frames. Resulting in trying on over 50 pairs, with each one saying, too large, too wide, does this fit my face? NOOOO and driving me nuts in the process. Yesterday I visited Maximizes for my yearly exam. I scheduled the appointment last week and was looking forward to a new, trendy pair of glasses and a prescription for contacts. This would be the third year that I've used Maximeyes. The selection of eyewear is incredible and the doctor and sales staff are professional and friendly. BUT, the staff in charge of scheduling needs additional training OR they need to be replaced. This is the second year in a row that I've traveled down from the UWS to Maximeyes only to be told that they could not perform my exam for insurance-related issues. Last year, a female staff called and informed me that I was due for my yearly exam and asked whether I wanted to schedule an appointment. I scheduled something for the next week. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told that I would not be covered under my insurance because the appointment was booked a few days less than one full year from my previous exam. Shouldn't the Maximizes staff have known this?? After all, they called me. They also confirmed that my insurance had not changed. I had to reschedule and travel back down a couple of weeks later. This year I scheduled my appointment one week in advance. When I called to schedule my appointment, the female staff again asked whether my insurance had changed. It has not. I arrived yesterday and was told that they had to renew their agreement with EyeMed insurance and that I would not be covered until September. Again.....shouldn't the staff have told me this?? Obviously, they have my insurance information in front of them and even confirmed that my insurance was still EyeMed. If they know that Eyemed can't be accepted until September, shouldn't they tell EyeMed customers this? Once again, the sales staff apologized and asked me to return in a few weeks. How many times do you have to apologize to your customers before you make a change? I'm just really frustrated. I love their selection of eyewear but now I don't trust the scheduling staff. My wife and I went to Maximeyes because of great reviews on Yelp. The frame selection is phenomenal; the salespeople are knowledgeable and eager to please but can tend to be a bit pushy. The biggest problem that I had is with the accuracy of measurement of where the lenses sit in relationship to your eyes and the adjustment of the frames to sit accurately on your face. They basically just gave us our new glasses and bid adieu. Return visits brought no joy and I eventually went to another optician for proper adjustment. They are hip and fabulous but I have to deduct major points for lack of attention to basics and poor after-sales care. UPDATE: I got a call from Stephen in response to this post. I went in and Luis offered to replace the lenses. Turns out that they were measured incorrectly, resulting in my having to tilt my head up to see anything, near, medium or distant. They also advised me to get my prescription updated. I picked up the new lenses today and they are as they should be. Can't ask for better customer service than that. I stumbled on this place after leaving Whole Foods, right across the street. If you read my other reviews you will see that I had a miserable experience at another optical store that was recommended to me by my optician in California........I have been to a few in New York, since I was in need of new glasses, and have been disappointed by the service or selection or both. These guys really know their stuff!!! I had gone to a different doctor, but wish I had found them first. They have a nice doctor there, and everyone is very friendly. I was helped by a very eclectic, interestingly dressed sales person. Stephen, I believe. He came off as a little pushy at first, but definitely knows what he is doing. There were a couple of other gentlemen in the store that were equally as knowledgeable, and in the end...Yippeeee. I have a lovely new pair of glasses, that only took a few days to get. I will keep going back here for my frames and their service for as long as I live in New York! read more
