Came to Maximo on a weekday around 5:30 and it was pretty quiet at first, but by the time we finished dinner the place had filled up a lot. It's definitely a smaller, cute neighborhood spot with a really fun vibe. The service was good. Our server was funny, attentive, and made the experience fun. We started with the "corn ribs" appetizer and WOW. Probably one of my favorite corn dishes I've had in a long time. So flavorful and addictive. We also got the "Tiradito de Hamachi" crudo, which was fresh and delicious! For the entree, my friend and I shared the tacos (which comes with your choice of 3). We added an extra taco to make it 4. I was genuinely shocked that the mushroom taco ended up being my favorite because I almost always prefer meat, but it was THAT good. The fried shrimp taco was also amazing. For dessert, we got the tres leches cake. I'm usually not a huge fan of strawberry or fruit toppings on desserts, but the cake itself was really, really good. I ended up just removing the strawberries and eating the cake, which was moist and flavorful. The only downside for me was the drinks. They looked larger than they actually were because of the glassware, and they tasted a little watered down. I had two, and they just weren't very strong or super flavorful. Other than that though, the food and service absolutely made up for it. Definitely a spot I'd come back to!

Definitely worth a visit. The branzino and hamachi crudo were my favorites, but we loved every dish and drink we ordered. The tres leches was also a great treat and not too sweet. I would also recommend the lump crab dish, guacamole, and shrimp appetizer A really cool concept and service was great. All staff were really friendly and made sure our experience was great. Our server paced out our courses really well and made sure we always had clean plates and silverware. Would definitely come back and try more of the menu There's a small parking lot and also lots of free street parking. The restaurant itself is cute and relatively small

Brought my friend in who was visiting from Phoenix and we tried the new tasting menu. We got a few extra things and Chef Adrian changed my friend's opinion of mushrooms. Everything he does is magic! Geoff is also the best of the best. He remembers what I've had and haven't had and his service is second to none. Everything is exceptional and more importantly it's consistently exceptional.

(NOTE: ONLINE MENU ISNT COMPLETELY UP TO DATE) First time here and had a great brunch experience! My husband's cousin raved about having dinner here the week prior so we decided to try out the Sunday brunch. My husband and I were somewhat skeptical at first based off of the photos. This is not our typical Mexican food. The plates looked a lot smaller online, but I am so glad we tried it because it was delicious!! To start we had a few drinks: 1. Flor de Fuego - it tasted like agua de jamaica with a splash of citrus, in my opinion it was very refreshing 9/10 2. Frozen Margarita - my husband's cousin ordered this in a yeti tumbler, he said the margarita was really good except it was a bit hard to drink since it was frozen the whole time lol 8.5/10 ***tumbler was an additional cost. It is a 16oz yeti. They do offer $10 refills anytime you bring the cup back 3. My husband drank a pacifico. Classic beer. They offered it in both bottle and in glass. 9/10. 4. Carafe mango mimosa - this served about 4 drinks total. It was very champagne forward with the tiniest amount of juice 7.5/10 APPETIZERS: 1. Housemade Bacon w/ Salsa Ranchera - in my opinion this was DELICIOUS. The salsa on this was amazinggg. This dish also comes with a side of authentic flour tortillas. 10/10 2. Tiradito de Hamachi - meh, it was good but wouldn't order again. It literally just tasted like strawberries with a salty aftertaste. We really wanted the aguachiles but they were no longer on the brunch menu. 6.5/10 3. Enfrijoladas - surprisingly this had a lot of flavor, it was paired with the same salsa at the bacon 10/10 ENTREES: 1. Ensalada de cesar - pretty solid, very lemony 8/10 2. Steak and eggs - this was really good, i would say that the steak looked a lot bigger online but it was still overall a delicious filling dish 9.5/10 3. Chilaquiles Divorciados - Probably my favorite thing on the menu. YOU NEED TO TRY THIS WITH THE BARBACOA! It had so much flavor to it and the barbacoa just melts in your mouth 10/10 4. Bacon Burrito - the other couple ordered this and said they enjoyed it, we all expected it to be a lot bigger though 8/10 DESSERT: 1. Tres Leches - the jam on this wasnt my favorite. It was very overpowering. The cake itself was really good. Would order again with fresh strawberries, no jam 7.5/10 2. Banana Pudding Bunelo - its your typical bunelo with a small amount of banana cream filling, topped with homemade banana ice cream 7.5/10 3. Masa Pancake - I am not the biggest fan of pancakes so I didn't try it but the other couple enjoyed it OVERALL: 9/10 experience!!! Total for our portion (Hamachi, 2 drinks, salad, steak, chilaquiles, and tres leches) came out to a total of about $120. We Will definitely be coming back to try out their dinner menu. Unfortunately, we were told that the green spaghetti is no longer on the menu !!!!

An excellent dining experience. We had such a lovely dinner at Maximo on a rainy Friday night. Despite the weather, parking was easy with a small lot and plenty of street parking. The restaurant has an intimate indoor space and adjacent covered patio. Both were already full when we arrived which created a lively atmosphere. The inside was so tasteful - small but moody and warm! I'd definitely recommend a reservation for the weekends! We started with the aguachile de camaron as a starter and WOW my husband cannot stop talking about this dish. The perfect blend of textures and flavors - this will be a must for us every visit. We have had our eyes on the 5-course Chef Tasting Menu for $49 + the optional beverage pairing for $30. The experience felt more than fair for the price, especially by Houston standards. Each course felt thoughtful and slightly boundary-pushing, yet really approachable. My partner and I have been on a bit of a mole kick recently, so were very excited for the hanger steak with truffle mole. It absolutely delivered and would love to order this again! We were also heavily drawn to the tuna tartare starter, masa cornbread, and tres leches. The wine and drink parings were perfect and not too fruity. The brut rose was a perfect way to start and I always love a mezcal cocktail. I highly recommend anyone visiting to start with this Tasting Menu and leave the stress in the hands of Chef Adrian Torres! We had the pleasure of chatting with him briefly after our meal and were so impressed with his story and clear excitement he brings. The rest of the staff were equally kind and really added to the evening! Side note: We had the pleasure to attend Maximo's Cinco de Mayo block party and were so impressed by the community involvement bringing in local vendors and live music. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this restaurant for future tasting menus and events.

Another great time had at Maximo. I would say the service this time wasn't as sharp as my previous visits but that didn't take away from my overall experience. We decided to do the tasting menu again and have 0 regrets although you may want to order one or two additional things as the portions are small. What's so fun about Maximo is that they not only change up the dishes every season but also improve upon some of the old ones. I remember not loving the texture and density of the masa cornbread during our first visit. This time, it was smaller but also softer and more balanced. The sauce was devoured. The tasting menu is a fun flavor journey although it seems like they aren't always able to accommodate dietary restrictions. We ordered the pork belly tacos and Tlacoyo De Cangrejo along side our tasting and I'm very glad I did. The Tlacoyo felt like elevated street food. Lots of crab and the fried cheese added a wonderful flavor and texture component without being too overwhelming. The pork belly was also a hit. It was also very odd for me because 99% of the time I do not like fat on my meat at all to the point it makes me gag but this literally melted in my mouth. Freaked me out a bit. I've had meat described that way but this is the first time I actually experienced it. Maximo is truly one of the few places that deserves all the hype.

Had a belated Valentine's Day Dinner on a Sunday. We were seated in the extended "outdoor" area and it was still just as nice as the actual restaurant area. Our server was Kylah O., and she was super sweet! She did a great job of explaining the menu to us, and all the staff were very attentive! We ended up doing the Chef's Tasting Menu with beverage pairings. Everything was absolutely delicious! And the pairings complimented the each dish so well.

Believe it. It's true. This tasting menu is seriously the best value in town, and the wine/cocktail pairing is an absolute must. Our culinary journey started with tuna two ways, and this first bite was actually my favorite of the entire meal. The flavors were impossibly punchy with well-balanced savory notes that were perfectly highlighted by the accompanying bubbly pairing. 5 courses in all, and all of it was delicious. Another highlight was the steak course and the heavenly chocolate dessert course, which was expertly paired with their take on an espresso martini. Chef's kiss! The restaurant is actually quite tiny, and I found it to be on the warm/muggy side, and it wasn't even that hot outside. Also, from a decor perspective, they could certainly use a "freshening up" though perhaps a newer larger location would be a better idea. Still, based solely on the food, my foodie friends and I agreed we would absolutely be back. Their Bibendum nod is well-deserved!

Absolutely get the dinner tasting menu if you get the chance! Updating my previous review because I was not very impressed with their weekend brunch menu, but the dinner tasting menu had very beautiful and high quality dishes. The blue fin tuna tostada was my favorite of the 5 courses, followed closely by dessert, but nothing disappointed. Service has always been great (even when the brunch menu didn't wow me previously)

We had the most amazing dinner at Maximo! We got married earlier in the day and they made our night so special (they even threw flowers on us ). The food was beyond incredible and our waiter was AMAZING. My favorite dish was the hearts of palm appetizer.

Decided to come here on a whim looking for a family friendly place, with parking, that was different than any of the usual Mexican restaurants around. Maximo hit all the checkboxes. We went for brunch - the restaurants - while overall small, there is also some outside seating available. Parking is only on the street, but in this area there is ample around the corners too. We were quickly seated and the host provided some great options. We ordered the tuna tiradito, steak and eggs, chilaquiles divorciados, and dulce de leche cinnamon roll. The tuna appetizer was great! The steak and eggs were the best I've had in a while, tender meat and did not skimp on portion -- the egg and potatoes and sauces complement well. The chilaquiles had a good kick, meat was tender. The only thing we thought could've been better was the Cinnamon roll. The outside layer was good, but the inside layer seemed tougher to eat. The hibiscus tea was excellent! The service was excellent! Family friendly establishment. Will be back!

A neighborhood gem! Had the $45 tasting menu. Exceptional value for the quality of food. Had just enough where I was appropriately satisfied although I almost pushed it to try their tacos. Highlight was the starter - Bluefin Tostado. Easily the best bite of the night. Not much to the masa cornbread. Not something I'd order if I returned. The table next to me had the steak and it looked amazing. I'd return to check out more of the menu.

Excellent experience all around! We sat on the climate-controlled patio - which was basically an air conditioned enclosure. It was a great atmosphere and excellent service. We tried the tuna tostada, strawberry salad, aguachile, doraditos, duck, and carne asada. Everything was delicious! The tuna tostada has grasshoppers by the way - you can ask for them on the side, although I think the dish has it mixed in... don't let that discourage you! All dishes were a 10/10 (or maybe better?). And for the cocktails - My husband had the old fashioned which was really good, and I had the Maxi-martini and frozen margarita. My drinks were both fine, but I'd probably do the old fashioned or try something else next time.

This spot is VERY busy on weekend nights - so much so that it might be up to a 30-40 minute wait. They don't do reservations, so you add your name to the waitlist when you arrive and they'll give you a time estimate. On slightly less busy nights you can take a seat at the bar as you wait, or relax outside as they have a small garden area. More likely however, you may find yourself walking around the complex as there's a Kroger nearby. Once your table is ready, you stop by the host's station who will lead you to your table. We've enjoyed the booth seating the most but they have many options. If you have a large party I would definitely call ahead - we had a graduation lunch here once and they were very accommodating. The servers have always been fantastic - very kind and they check in on you frequently. We find the Platos Especiales to be very filling and have usually split one of those amongst the two of us. The Tex Mex dinner is one of our favorites. Last weekend we opted for the Tacos Al Carbon with beef which were fantastic. We've also tried the fajitas here which are absolutely delicious as well. The meat is always well seasoned and tender. They give you complimentary chips and salsa - the green is one of our faves and we will snack on it throughout the night. The margs are also delicious and are a go-to. I hear they have a happy hour with reduced marg prices which sounds like a steal, but we've only been here after happy hour timings. Definitely check this place out. Great for date night, girls night, family night - you name it. There's always a birthday or two being celebrated on a weekend night. It's just so festive, colorful, and fun!

We were seated in the party room with several other large parties. I ordered the shrimp tacos. They were good and I actually finished them all, which is unusual. The chips were not hot, so I didn't eat as many as I normally would. I had a glass of cold beer and had a good time with my family. My husband got the Copa tropical margarita and it was delicious.

He anticipates what we need before we even have to ask, keeps everything running smoothly, and somehow manages to make it seem effortless. What really sets Ethan apart is his positive attitude and genuine connection with guests. He remembers details, offers great recommendations, and brings a level of enthusiasm that makes the entire experience fun! It's no exaggeration to say he's one of the main reasons we visit nearly every week. If you're looking for great service and consistently great food, we highly recommend both Ethan and Little Pappasito's Cantina.

Ordered queso, guacamole and fajitas with flour and corn tortillas, quesadillas and a side of grilled veggies. Fairly straightforward for a Mexican restaurant. So, then we waited and waited and waited. Eventually got a few glasses of water, some plates and some silverware. Not enough for the entire party. I guess they were washing the plates and cutlery. The chips and salsa and queso came out with the guacamole. Still waiting for plates for a few in our group. Don't worry they told us. We will bring out more plates and silverware with the fajitas. Then the quesadillas and fajitas came out with the beans and rice, but no tortillas. No flour tortillas. No corn tortillas. And no extra plates. Still washing dishes?? So we kept waiting as we ate in shifts. Like being on call. But we were just a large family seated together at a round table. Eventually, they brought us more silverware so we weren't eating with spoons and they brought out large plates. Like oversized entree plates for our fajitas. We ordered fajitas to go, but there was so much food on the table that we asked for to go boxes. Once. Twice. Three times. Went to the hostess and even to the manager. Still they refused to bring me boxes to take the food to go. My family got impatient, so we finally left. So much food waste. Would have been good for lunch the next day. We LOVE the Original Pappasito's on Richmond and Hillcroft. There is a difference. Worth it to drive not to deal with this lack of customer service. So surprised.
