The location is pretty great on Miami Beach, but the food is nothing special. We had breakfast on a weekday and sat outside under the lights and the umbrellas which were inviting. We were perfectly covered when a short 15 minute rain shower swept through during our meal. Service was slow, but very friendly. I had pancakes which were just OK. My friend had granola and she seemed to enjoy it. With so many choices to eat in the area I likely wouldn't be back right away. read more

I told my waitress that there was a time crunch, But still feel like it took a while bit to come out. Gratuity was included. The ambience was a mixture of beachy, jungle porch, and, in the corner, sports bar. I'm happy that I got my coconut shrimp fix in, but I wouldn't say it was my favorite. Best breakfast in Miami Beach area especially in South beach. The menu is big but not too big, the servers and wait staff are all so KIND (Very accommodating and give good food suggestions). The ambience is SO MIAMI (floral, sunny, outdoors and the indoors is gorgeous too). We got the benedicts, breakfast sandwich, avo toast and French toast. The breakfast potatoes were STELLAR. We are staying at the Catalina hotel and had a little bit of a wait. We decided to try Maxine's bistro. Leslie our waitress helped us with menu. I like different drinks and she was very helpful!! Leslie was nice and had a great personality which was great after a fun cruise. The starter and the drinks were amazing and the music made you want to sing!!! This was the restaurant In the lobby of our hotel and everything we tried was so delicious! It is pricey, as everything is in south beach but I actually found it to be a bit more reasonable than some other options. The menu has a bit of everything for everyone. We ordered the meat pizza, calamari, paella and the Miami Vice which is a must order. The calamari is also a must for us we got two orders cause it was so delicious with a light batter and thick pieces. The pizza was just ok with a really crispy nearly burnt crust and it was nothing special but had a great sauce. The paella I would skip. It lacked flavor and was skimpy in portion for the price. It also only had calamari and shrimp instead of your typical paella array. The drinks here are strong even the frozen ones! We came later at night to visit the bartender, Andres, who was also our server when they opened and he made me one of the best spicy drinks ever. I told him I like spicy and smoky and he delivered! He was a highlight of our experience and would gladly come again to have some drinks made by him. read more

Four of us had dinner at Maxine's. It was a disappointing experience. Overall our entrees looked great but were tasteless. They could definitely use more seasonings and fresher ingredients. Curiously, we found many of the food items lacking ingredients specified by the menu. The chicken sandwich lacked any aioli or bacon as specified by the menu. Nor did it come with coleslaw as specified. None of our sandwiches came with coleslaw. We asked and she said they did not have coleslaw today. (Really???) The fries were mushy. The sandwich was dry. The salmon wrap looked great but was really tasteless. Even the Charissa sauce lacked spice. My veggie wrap looked awesome and loaded. But again, it was unremarkable and was smothered in very salty hummus. It didn't taste fresh. They have some interesting pizzas on the board out front, like a spicy tomato pizza. When I ordered it, she said, "We don't have pizza's today". Really?? The bill came with an 18% gratuity added and she told us that she does not get that gratuity because the restaurant keeps it. She asked us to leave her an additional tip. What a scam! I see little redeeming value in this place. read more

Went to Maxine's on Super Bowl Sunday around 5:30 PM planning to watch the game, but we left at halftime after a disappointing experience. The restaurant wasn't busy, and while we were greeted quickly, service slowed down immediately after. Our server, Alvaro, rushed us to order but then took nearly an hour to bring out a "Margherita" pizza that did not match the menu description. It was supposed to have fresh mozzarella and fresh tomato, but instead came with shredded mozzarella that hadn't fully melted, no fresh tomato, and a very floppy crust. It felt like a basic cheese pizza with store-bought sauce and cheese. Our tacos were decent and drinks were fine, but nothing stood out. We also waited about 30 minutes just to receive the bill and had to ask another server to find ours. Our waters sat empty, and there was little follow-up. When we politely expressed our disappointment and asked for some kind of discount given the wait and food quality, we were met with a defensive and rude response instead of accountability. To top it off, despite advertising as a good game-day spot, they weren't even playing the Super Bowl audio--just random music. After spending around $80 and over two hours there, we will not be coming back. read more

I should have known better when the hostess at front didn't know if they did take out orders. But, I am on vacation, in a good mood, and not here to get anyone in trouble. Anyway. Found out yesterday, I could get an order to go. Hooked me up with a server to take my order. The manager indicated we should go inside (most of the seating is outdoor) and I followed the server in. I was blasted with the smell of old urine. WTF??? I was just in a hurry, so I just placed my order. Except they can't do a half and half pizza. Ok, whatever, Hawaiian because I am not about to tell my wife she couldn't get what she wanted. While I waited, someone came out of the kitchen and was yelling at all the staff to meet in the kitchen immediately. It is 6pm on a Saturday, what kind of craziness is going on here?! I said nothing and just sat there with a dumb look on my face, because I have worked in restaurants and people who are jerks get their food messed with. My wife and I ordered a couple drinks and an appetizer at the bar. After about 30 minutes the appetizer didn't appear. I asked the waiter who said there was a "problem in the kitchen" . So we cancelled the order and checked out. On top of the 20% service fee the waiter took it upon himself to add a 14% tip on the bill. I was going to complain but my wife didn't want to bother. Check your bill, total garbage service and on the waiter to do that without asking. Please don't respond with a ridiculous apology, never again. read more

If you're checked in to The Catalina, there is free happy hour from 5-6pm I ordered the Salmon Piccata and decided I need not do anything else for the night The pool is just feet away & you can move the party out there as long as you don't have anything in glass containers. They have an amazing selection of vegetarian selections, like a house veggie burger, veggie wrap, quinoa salad, & hummus (appetizer). We explained to the waiter over and over about a nut allergy to ensure he told the kitchen. Pancakes come out with Nutella on them. We tell him. He comes back with one less pancake.....which also had Nutella on them. Tell him again. He comes back with same pancakes with Nutella scraped off. I visited this place almost every night on my last 5 day trip to Miami Beach. I love sitting outside, and watching all the happenings! The Maxine's Burger is my absolute favorite, and the french fries are pretty good too! There is an indoor and outdoor bar, and indoor and outdoor seating too. Great place! ps. Last time we were in town we stopped in multiple times for the bruschetta. It was so dang good. This was our first stop on our trip this visit, and it was pretty underwhelming. The bruschetta was still decent but not nearly what it was before (compare my photo with Kristi F's photo from last year) and the service was lacking. The server was nice enough but the hostess had to chase him down a couple times. The drinks and DJ were good. Overall not terrible but it won't be our main spot this visit. read more

While staying within the Catalina's three hotels there was an offering for a free happy hour drink at Maxine's. The location was cute and well decorated. We arrived a couple minutes before happy hour ended, the bartender asked for ID (coming from the beach with no wallet) and we asked if they could wait for us to get it and still allow us to participate. At first the bartender was quick to deny this request. I ran up to the room and got the ID right before the time was up. This seemed unnecessary considering we were there before the happy hour ended. Regardless, we understood. Then, we ordered from the restaurant an assorted cheese and fruit board... unfortunately, there was mold on the cheese. We immediately sent it back and they mentioned they would remake it. After the experience we realized it wasn't worth any risk of more carelessness. This is the type of situation where the restaurant could have sent us a free item to compensate for their lack of care, which they did not. (Easily could've comped our one small bottle of water that they charged $6 for). Proceed with caution! read more

Go to McDonalds, makes better burgers. and will cost you 1/3 of what you pay here, $250 for eight burgers without a drink. The menu says that it comes with a side of salad. There was no salad. The first thing is, if you aren't going to serve breakfast all day state that right on the menu. I had a chicken Caesar where they cooked the living daylights out of it, the Caesar dressing was terrible. My friend had the cheese board, it was pitiful, the cheese was in chunks or balls (mozzarella) not slices. Raisins were added for confusion. Honestly an ALDI could provide better product that would honestly be really imported. Be forewarned they add 14% gratuity & 6% service charge & still have the audacity to charge for soda refills. Awful service and boring food. It took them 45minutes to bring our food, when we mentioned it's been almost an hour, she said it's not an hour and showed us that on our food ticket. As if taking 45minutes is the standard to wait for your food here. The place was not crowded at all. We had to continuously correct them on what their menu offers. For example, the scrambled come with potatoes, or fruit, or toast. They brought us all fruit and when we said we ordered potatoes they said that's extra. It was all ridiculous. The bar is efficient, all of the other staff including the manager are just absent minded. Seems like a nice place, it's not. Came for our complimentary drinks that come with our stay at 5pm, and this bartender has the worst attitude. He asked for a tip before pouring our second drink.
