Okay i know why Maxine's has such a high rating now. Not only is the decor super cute but the FOOD is so gooood! We came here after getting our booster shots. I've been eyeing the Dutch baby after seeing it pop up on my instagram. The hubs naturally went for the steak and eggs, and we topped it off with the Maxine burger just incase we didn't order enough. The Dutch baby did not disappoint. Although i was expecting a big fat omelette, i was surprised by the fluffy pancake like part. it was perfectly put together with ham and melted guyere cheese drizzled over top. Now the steak and eggs... took us by surprised. Usually steak and eggs is a very normal item on the menu but this particular one was medium in the center and crispy on the outside. Wow. This is a busy brunch place on the weekend. Fortunately, we didn't have much problem finding street paid parking. We arrived before 11am and didn't have to wait but the restaurant was pretty full. I love the decor as it transports you back to Paris. What a great lunch/brunch my friend and I had today at Maxine's. The food and particularly the service were excellent... top notch. Rarely, at least lately have I experienced such a level of professionalism from the staff, particularly Nicole, thanks so much for looking after ourselves and being so kind. Love this place for brunch! The restaurant has a nice interior, with lots of windows. It was very sunny when I was there. The interior is also very well thought out with details like the the bar. Every single staff member was so nice in a genuine way. It was refreshing. To eat I got the Dutch baby which I couldn't even finish half of. It's delicious but very heavy. I would split it. The menu has a lot of variety and I'll definitely be back to try other items. I rarely drink during brunch but I tried their his dudeness (subbed the vodka for extra kahlua). It was ok, I probably would skip it the next time and stick to a regular drink. The only downside is that you can't make reservations for brunch and it did get pretty busy around 11am with a line outside. I got here at 10am and it was half empty. Come early! read more

A cute bistro reminding me of a French cafe in Paris. We came for lunch and sat outside on the covered patio. They have huge floor to ceiling windows that open so even sitting inside feels like you're outside. After seeing the pictures on Instagram, I knew I wanted the smoked salmon rosti. It is beautifully presented with dollops of hollandaise and dill sprigs. It was a great mix of flavours with the crispiness of the potato rosti, but the rosti was sadly over salted. We also had the burger and fries. It was a decent burger, but dressed with a bit too much sauce. Friendly, efficient service. Been here several times in the past 2 years for work social happy hours & a team brunch. When I went for brunch, I had the smoked salmon Benny which was a bit salty for my taste but the latte w/ oat milk was delicious. Have tried several cocktails from their HH menus but my favorite was the blackberry Margarita which is no longer on their HH menu. Just went again yesterday and had the pineapple spicy Margarita which was a bit watered down pineapple juice but better than one of the margaritas they had on their HH menu last year but cannot remember the name. Beware the goblet it is served in is massive and requires both of my hands to hold as it's heavy! Don't say I didn't warn you. I've also tried several of their HH food and the fried chicken is usually a team/table favorite, the maple syrup soaks up the goodness with every bite. We've had the oysters, fries, falafel (not on current menu), seared tuna appy, salads, and yesterday we tried their eggplant parm which was ok, lacking in the taste that I am familiar with. I came to Maxine's with a group of 10 women for a Bachelorette party and WOW. The staff was extremely friendly and kind despite the huge group size. Our waitress kept every water cup full, got every drink and food order right to the T, wrote a very kind welcome card to our bride, and generally brought the BEST energy! The food was fantastic, I tried the Smoked Salmon Rosti, the Dutch Baby, and the Avocado Toast, and all were unique and well balanced. They were also filling, so the prices felt very worthwhile. Decided to check out Maxine's Café and Bar. First time we came, and we're definitely coming back! Maxine's in downtown, so of course, parking will be an issue and a challenge to find (free parking at least). Thankfully, for us, we were able to get free parking less than a minute away from the restaurant. Most of the parking around the area IS paid parking (stalls). But if you're fortunate enough to find free parking, even better. Just to say that location wise, it's in downtown, and there is free parking if you can find it, but if not, paid parking (street) is the way to go here. The ambiance of the place is nice, feels old school, traditional kind of vibe. Like a journey back into the 1950's or something. Maybe that was the vibe and feel they wanted customers to experience when they walk through the doors. If that's true, then it certainly did pay off. Their service was good. Our waitress was very respectful, and kind. Didn't hover around us, but made sure to be aware that if we needed anything, she was going to see us. We are thankful for that kind of service, and noticing of our culinary needs while we were dining there. I truly believe that great service really does matter to diners and customers. It's not just about the food, but about the interaction with those who have chosen to dine at your establishment. So, we had a very good experience here because our waitress was very well attuned to us, but also had some dialogue and small talk with us as well. She was an excellent host. We are thankful she served us. Food was good! We both got burgers. Mine was the cheeseburger and my wife's was the chicken burger, if I'm not mistaken. They were both very delicious, full of flavor! Especially the cheeseburger. I've been on the hunt in the city for smash burgers, but Vancouver does not seem to have many. It was only maybe a few years (2-3) where some smash burger joints started popping up (Between 2 Buns being one of the first). Maxine's does a pretty good smash burger here. Love it. We will be back, cause the burger is just so good. I think Between 2 Buns still is tops in the city when it comes to smash burgers, but Maxine's isn't bad. Pretty good. Price is a little on the expensive side, especially for a burger and fries. But they do it well. Place is definitely worth a try in the downtown core if you have a chance. We'd recommend it. We had a wonderful dinner at Maxine's last night! Attentive and friendly service from our server. We loved absolutely everything we tried. We started with the onion tart and beet salad (beets with radicchio and burrata) - both were excellent. For mains we tried the sablefish (black cod) special and the ricotta gnocchi with mushrooms. I never leave bad reviews so this was just overall a REALLY bad experience. Walking in the atmosphere seemed nice with good aesthetics and choice of seating. But from the moment we got seated till the time we checked out, we received absolutely ZERO customer service. The only person that talked to us and helped us out wasn't even waiting our table. I'm pretty sure he was the manager, wearing a blue shirt. He's the only person that offered good customer service. The lady that was our server (white lady with black hair), was really rude and ignored us every time we tried to ask for something. We were in the front right corner. I said "thank you" when we got out food and water refilled and she just ignored us and rolled her eyes. To see if she heard me I purposely said "thank you" one last time as she brought our dishes back to the kitchen and she ignored us a fourth time. The food itself was good portion sizes and good value. The oysters were good. The biscuit and waffles was pretty mediocre, lacked flavor so you have to use hot sauce with it. The mango iced tea was great for a hot day as well. Customer service was a zero. Waiting times for food and to get help when we had a question or needed something took forever. Over 30 minutes to get our food. Would never go back and would not recommend. There's many other brunch places to go to in Vancouver that offer better customer service and have better food. I recommend Jam Cafe and Palate Kitchen. Don't go here if you value a place that has both good customer service and food. read more

I recommend it despite the fact that you may be swayed by more interesting looking offerings. My friend ordered the salmon benny and found it to be nothing spectacular. Of course I got the cocktail I saw, called the Maximosa, and it was very tasty. I could have drank four, honestly. I was disappointed that they had none of their specialty items. They were all out. I was really looking forward to trying a sweet Dutch baby, but they only had the savory one. Our waitress, was very friendly but it was hard to flag her down as they were short staffed that day. The space is airy with lots of natural light, beautiful on sunny days. There are lots of items on the menu to try. I decided on the smoked salmon rosti which includes potato rosti, poached eggs, dill cream cheese, pickled shallot, capers, & hollandaise. The dish is presented beautifully. The potato rosti was cooked perfectly, not greasy or oily, and the smoked salmon was fresh and delicious. Checked out this place on April 23rd. Living in the neighbourhood, I was excited to check this out though sad the previous tenant Musette, was gone. When we got there, there was a horrible noise from construction of a side patio for the cafe. We were told by staff that the noise was going to be over soon and would only last 10 minutes as it was something to do with rocks. The noise, in fact, lasted the entire time we were dining, which was over an hour. Why did they not have construction work on the patio occur after 3pm when the restaurant is closed? It made no sense. It was like sitting next to a pressure washer. We could not hear ourselves speaking and dust was blowing everywhere. It was impossible to ignore. On the service end, staff was super attentive. They frequently refilled water glasses before they were empty, checked to make sure everything was ok, and brought drinks and food in a timely manner. I would rate the menu, food and service as better than their sister restaurant of the Homer St Cafe. There were a lot of cool and inventive cocktails. The food was simple, but good and portions were a fair size. The patio is nice, if not for the noise. It would have been nice if they had at least apologized for the noise continuing past what they led us to believe or offered some way to make up for it. Further, they could have simply asked the contractor not to do it while people were waiting as they were closing soon anyway or they could at the very least have asked the contractor how much longer the noise waa going to be and then told us the true situation. It was not a very good first impression. We would have left and gone elsewhere and then come back another time. read more

I went to check out Maxine's today, where Musette used to be. And I have to say I think they did an even better job with the space? The "French" vibe was everything I needed to feel like I was traveling in this pandemic, even if I didn't leave my neighbourhood. Service was great and we even got free champagne because it was our first time there. The Maximosa (their mimosa, with grapefruit) was delicious.
