I bought a bag and devoured the whole bag to myself. I couldn't get enough and had to find out where she sold her cookies. I had to look her up online and try to find a way to get a hold of more cookies. Their crispy macadamia nut chocolate chip cookies were the best cookies I've ever had! Yes, I went on a little stalking mission to find where she sold these delicious cookies. I found her email address and off I went to ask where I could purchase more of her cookies. Aunty Nani responded and said I could pick up the order at the Gateway Center or find her at some of the farmers markets. It felt like I had my very own cookie dealer! She was so sweet and said that texting her was easier for her to respond to than email. She implied she wasn't too keen with technology. Awww, such a sweet aunty. She texted me to say she was at the fair on Tuesdays at Waimanalo, Thursdays at Kapolei and Saturdays at Ala Moana on the 2nd floor near the Target entrance. Score! I decided to find her at Ala Moana that Saturday and met this lovely lady. I bought the Cranberry Nut cookie and the Macadamia Nut Chocolate chip cookies. The best ones are the Macadamia nut chocolate chip cookies and I get why it's so popular. I met Aunty and she was such a sweet lady. She smiled and remembered who I was and I just told her how much I loved her cookies. I believe a family member was helping her out at the table and he said how much she loves baking. I could tell that she takes pride in making these cookies and the love that goes into making them. It's an amazing delight... I honestly have not had any cookies taste like these before. I had to yelp this business because I had to share this with my fellow yelpers. You're welcome, Yelp Fam... you're going to fall in love with these cookies. Go support your local Aunty.

Did some research and found that Aunty Nani's has a booth Saturday mornings at the KCC Farmers Market at the Kapi' Olani Community College. I met Eddie and his Aunt... Aunty Nani... yes there is a real Aunty Nani.  Eddie is awesome... he will offer samples for everything.  The number 1 and 2 sellers are the macadamia nut chocolate chip and oatmeal chocolate chip mac nut cranberry cookies.  After the samples...I know exactly why... they are simply addictive.  Crispy and sweet not like the ones you get from the mass marketers.

Recent months I would order 2 sets of Shoyu Poke Nachos (coz the poke ahi is really fresh!) and I'd request 1 set for the poke ahi and chips to be separated / put on the side ( to save it for the evening without wanton chips turning soggy.) But the aunty hasn't seem to appear too happy nor friendly with me asking for that so I haven't really look forward to buy it too much now when their food truck comes. :( I would see her laughing and being nice to other customers. Makes me nervous now when I buy from her. You know how after a long morning of work, you look forward the whole week, and just wanna enjoy the food you really like? But then as the paying customer, you also feel nervous for making a reasonable request that seems to piss the owner off? Huge Bummer. Maybe it's just me. There's always an uncle working quietly in the background and I truly appreciate him making effort to separate it for me. Maybe they can charge extra for requests like that? I would be willing to pay for it without the extra seeming unhappy attitude. :( Probably the last time I'd get from them. :(

That's what I do love about this discovery at Makana Mkt at Ka Makana Ali'i where they have it twice a week and this Sunday from 11a-3p I found this cute little card and it was Aloha Poke Bar which is obvious is a mobile cart which is absolutely cute and does exactly that where the menu describes the offerings for the day which was Classic, Tornado and what I got is Volcano their version of the spicy ahi. Bowls come in two sizes and though my thoughts was large though I got the small which is just $13 and all bowls comes with white rice topped with the poke of your choice and it doesn't end there you get unlimited toppings and I believe there was six types to which I got the pickled red onions and crispy onions (I later realized they were both onions lol!) there was also ocean salad, pickled cucumbers, furikake. The gentleman asked if I wanted inamona and spicy sauce...uuuhh yes! Poke is obviously premade and the list of the ingredients are all in as well as my Volcano which I though for me personally wasn't spicy enough was made with mayo, sriracha chili sauce, sesame oil, and green onions and thankfully it didn't have much green onions which I don't like but hey it adds the flavor. Rice cooked just right and the toppings complimented it all to my happy belly and was a pleasant find on this gloomy rainy day as the service was nice and friendly which brought the vibe to another level at this cute little cart. I love the mom and pop feel. They get to put in good ingredients- and we can taste the differnce, to not have the after taste of junk chemicals. HI was some unique flavors. The world now has mixed too much and flavors and styles can be found almost anywhere. But usually those are chemically made not natural fresh flavors. I don't know what is in it but it tastes freshly made and real. It is sweet- it is cotton candy so you know you are eating candy. There are the different restruant start up shows and different shark tank how to make a brand new start up this and that. They on the other had did the simple hard work approach and made something they were super interested in doing and got it up off the ground. Really proud of thier example. I don't see them in stores yet. Maybe they are working on it. If you do though you can let me know too. I look forward to seeing them again and again. e

I just discovered this cute food trailer "Cafe Parkside" on Yelp as I was looking for restaurants…read morein Kalihi. Not sure where it was located in Kalihi, but I was determined to find it. I was at Richies Drive inn when I remembered to check out this place. It was about a couple lanes or two further down North King Street heading west and sure enough you can spot the cute food trailer in the parking lot. Did you know the family built this wooden cafe on the trailer together?! The Kids helped built this with the direction of their father. They are parked near the street in the shared parking lot with the Pawn shop & Jackson Hewett Tax Servive. It's across the Kapalama Post office but before the old Pizza Hut location and I think after Palace Saimin You would only see the cafe on the trailer from Tuesday-Friday from 11am -5pm. There are some picnic benches and chairs under the canopy tent while you wait. In the beginning they started out in Waimanalo but for now they are here in Kalihi. They are known for their Steak and Shrimp plate and their two huge pieces of boneless fried chicken. They have some regular items and some specials of the day. Best to call ahead and place your order. The fried chicken would take the longest about 10 minutes wait time. They have some other items which sounded good like pot roast pork which is not offered all the time, hamburger steak. Kalbi, loco moco, bbq chicken, etc. On a hot day, shave ice and slushies and slushes floats would be refreshing. They have lemonade and orange aid slushies , but I got an orange aid slushie float with ice cream. I decided to get the fried chicken since I had some time to wait. it was huge as the photos posted and it was $12! It was hot and crispy in a seasoned flour battered. I couldn't wait to take a bite as I was driving, but I just tried part of the fried batter. It was seasoned so it was a little salty for me perhaps I just ate the batter part. The chicken gravy given was really good but having two humongous boneless chicken, I may need more gravy than the large portion cup given. Chicken tasted better after pouring some of the gravy over it. The gravy was yummy and not the brown gravy, but the light tan gravy! I'm looking forward to try more dishes like the rib eye steak, pot roast pork or some other specials. Please support this family own business! I was grateful for their great & friendly service and they even offered to bring my order to my car since I wanted to wait in my car. Lunch in Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. It took me about a month to get here. The heavy rains during the past two weeks were an obstacle, and they were closed a couple of weeks before that. I've been just aiming to visit on Saturdays - even though i realized that they're open for dinner on Fridays. The venue is a Japanese temple. It's so quaint and old school... very cool! The restroom is convenient; the environment is clean; and the parking is free! Service is kind, polite, friendly, and thoughtful! Here lives the Aloha Spirit! Of course, I had to order the Waffle Dog. (It reminds me of small kid time when my dad would get Waffle Dogs for mom, me, and my three sisters!) I added my condiments at the self-service area. I also had the Hamburger Steak Bowl... delicious! Gravy was tasty, burger was homemade, hot dog added color, onions added some crunch, broccoli added the healthy factor, and rice was cooked just right! Prices include tax. You dont need to have eaten at the original KC to feel the nostalgia, because every item on this menu will speak to you on some level... Waffle dog with Chow Chow sauce Teri beef sandwich Saimin and Hamburger combo Ono Ono shake It brings back memories of being a kid...no matter where you're from or how old you are. All of it was delicious...all of it! The waffle dog was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. We like to peel off the crispy bits and eat it with the Chow Chow sauce. Anyone else feel like the sauce reminds you of tartar sauce? The teri beef sandwich I didnt get any of ....because my wife ate it all...but she said it was delicious....I will have to sneak a bite next time! The saimin and burger combo was perfect. There's something about these two that just taste better together. We ordered a plain burger, just as a control. It was so good! We may order the deluxe burger next time, but actually, the plain burger was absolutely delicious. The saimin was great. The dashi soup flavor was light...not strong or fishy...so it matched well with the burger. The noodles were cooked to perfection (al dente) and complemented the luncheon meat and fish cake perfectly. The ono ono shake we ordered was chocolate flavored. But because each shake has lots of peanut butter in it, the shake tasted like Reeses peanut butter cups! It was so thick I had to use a spoon, which is how I like it. There was talk and rumors of additional food coming. A special blend of coffee and also nachos....cant wait! I can already envision coffee in my ono ono shake, and nachos over my waffle dog! Yes, 50% of the magic of this place comes with the satisfying food, but the other half, was the joy the staff showed. Dayton and his friends were so happy just to be there....it made the experience next level. Even though we weren't there for a real long time (just long enough to dine in), we had interaction with every person working. Each worker came by our table, talked about food, the restaurant and wore a smile. These conversations, this joy, is what will keep me coming back. When someone is happy about what they are doing...it shows. Check the days and times before you go....but defnitely go....you will leave full and with a smile.

I enjoyed the mango sriracha so much I retuned after eating my dinner. Each slice of bacon was $5.00 (its about 18 inches of a thick cut of bacon) so I ordered the mango sriracha and the pineapple Li hing mui. However, after being offered an additional slice for $2.00 more, I chose peanut butter as well. A plain piece of bacon is taken out and generously ladled with the flavor you choose. The mango sriracha was hot but not uncomfortably so - and, if you wanted to kick it up a notch, you could add chili pepper flakes (I chose not to). The peanut butter was my least favorite flavor. It had chunks of peanuts in the sauce poured over it that clung to the bacon. Just not for me. Lastly, the pineapple Li hing mui flavor was super delicious! After drenching the bacon in a thick liquid pineapple concoction, Li hing mui powder was generously sprinkled over the entire piece. Yum! Yum! Yum! After trying all three flavors offered, I'm looking forward to seeing these guys again! I'm a sucker for bacon. But bacon on a skewer!? I'm so down! (Sorry no pictures of the bacon! While chatting with one of my new friends at a table I noticed another person munching on a item that looked very interesting. It turned out to be bacon on a stick. I was informed by the individual that it came in three different flavors. After spending time with my friends it was off to spend time with my cousin and her husband. While they stood in line at another food vendor I had used my IG video to tape the employee from Wild Candy Bacon Company drizzle a stick of bacon with one of the flavors. It looked so interesting that I stood in line for some bacon on a stick. I noticed on the menu board that it was $5.00 for one stick or 3 for $12.00. I opted to try all three flavors: mango sriracha, peanut butter, and li hing pineapple. Watching the employee drizzle the first stick with the mango sriracha and he says "I believe you will be the last one to receive the remaining sriracha glaze." He then asked if I wanted some pepper flakes on it which I declined. The second bacon on a stick was drizzled with peanut butter sauce and then altered sprinkled with chops of peanuts. The last stick was drizzled with a glaze that had chunks of pineapple and the li hing powder was sprinkled on afterwards. I took my purchase and walked around to find a spot to eat. I took a bite of the li hing pineapple flavored bacon and the bacon was nice and crispy. The glaze was sweet and I made a mess out of myself. Drips of glaze all on my pants and sticky fingers too. I ate the mango sriracha second and can taste the hotness. It was delicious. The last one to eat was the peanut butter bacon on a stick. That one was okay. Overall I enjoyed the mango sriracha and the li hing pineapple. I just need to remember to grab some napkins the next time around.
