Food and service is always great! The apps are our favorite part. This time we got the curried noodles, grill filet mignon tater tots, crispy duck leg, and a special pork belly taco. The noodles and tater tots are our go to and never disappoint. I am not a huge fan of the orange flavor on duck but the duck leg was really flavorful and the orange flavor wasn't too strong. With a smile and a handshake, he set the tone for what would be a memorable night. His recommendations were on point, definitely glad we went with them. Came here on a tip from a friend. This may just become my go to restaurant in Hartford. I ordered the French Quarter cocktail. Rye whiskey and China China - a twist on a Manhattan. Not many places carry China China, and I love Manhattans. It was a perfect match after a long days work. I wanted to sample a couple of dishes and fit it into the company budget. I ordered the lamb slider, which was quite good. I didn't ask for temp, but wasn't prompted either, so we both messed up. I didn't realize it was medium until I bit into it. I like my lamb MR. My bad, next time. It was still quite good. I also ordered the Rock Shrimp & Sweet Potato Fritters with nuoc cham. I dipped. Every. Single. Bite. Yum. I got my surf and turf. Too full to try the dessert but I will have many more opportunities to sample the menu, I'm sure! A very busy restaurant as we walked in on a Tuesday night. They have a very good menu with variety. The two of us ordered about 5 different appetizers and small dishes to share. We came here for lunch on a Saturday and were surprised at how busy this restaurant was. We had to wait to be seated and we're asked if we have a reservation which we didn't. We were seated in the bar area at a high table by the windows. We shared an appetizer and enjoyed a cocktail before ordering our meals. The atmosphere was relaxing even though the restaurant was bustling. The last time I ate here was a weekday almost 25 years ago. We will be back soon and probably make a reservation too. read more

Stop by on Friday for a holiday drink and a quick bite to eat. Place was very busy as Uconn basketball had a game that day across the street at the XL center at 2:30. Place was standing room only filled with people with Uconn apparel on. We were able to grab 2 seats at the bar as someone was just leaving. We ordered a fired chicken special served with a peppery gravy. The fried boneless thighs were cooked perfectly . Very moist and a nice crunch to the breading. Just a little too much breading. The gravy was well done . Nice pepper taste. We also split their grilled filet mignon small plate. These were served on skewers with a piece of filet, their truffled tater tot and a blue cheese fondue to dip it all in. Quite tasty. The bar did an awesome job serving drinks to their servers and to all the people standing in the bar as this was as busy as it gets at lunch time. With standing room only. Great spot . TK is now going up be one of my go to spots as my wife office is right across the street. read more

There aren't many decent restaurants in Hartford, so TK stands out more than it would against stiffer competition. But, with that said, you can only play who is on your schedule and TK has done a nice job with its exposure. You can go here for a nice dinner or happy hour cocktails. I typically get small plates and sides, but they have some nice entree options. This isn't my favorite Max Restaurant but it's still pretty good. read more

Went here for lunch with a group of coworkers and was very frustrated by our experience. The food was delicious, but the service was appalling. We sat outside and were told our server would be with us shortly. Ten minutes later, our server comes by, brings us water and walks away. Didn't introduce himself or anything. Fifteen minutes later, he comes by to take our food order, only after someone from our table went in and asked the hostess to send our server out so we could order. 45 minutes go by and there is no sign of our waiter and no sign of our food. I went in to the restaurant this time to ask for an update, and they finally brought the food out. Tyler, our server, didn't bring out the food himself, but other employees from the kitchen did. We had finished our meal and still no sign of our server. He didn't come by at all to ask if we needed anything or find out if we were enjoying our meal. I had to go into the restaurant to ask for our checks. 5 minutes later, he brought the checks out and almost walked away without giving us pens to sign the checks until I asked him for one. Again, the food was really good, but the customer service was beyond subpar that I will hesitate going back here. After hearing good things about this restaurant, I was really disappointed by our experience today. read more

We were seated by a very polite host. Then the person who waited on us told us we had to hurry up & order because the kitchen was waiting for us. Our food was rushed & horrible. The carrots not cooked. The Anna potatoes were hard & tenderloin was tough. It was a very special night for us . A dessert would have been nice but the bill was put on the table & we were told. I've only ever been to Trumbull Kitchen for dinner. And as part of the Max Group, money can't be an issue -- otherwise you won't be experiencing a Max restaurant to its fullest. With that said, I like many things here - the decor, the seasonal cocktails and the food are all fantastic. Opt for the Fall Manhattan, Shipwrecked, or El Cafe -- really good drinks! Otherwise, the wine selection is a solid choice. For starters, the wood-grilled octopus, Maryland Crab Cake, Kalbi Beef Buns, Beef Tenderloin Maki and Grilled Filet Mignon are pretty tasty and personally my favorites. Tasty, flavorful, mouthwatering -- you can't go wrong with any of these, trust me! If you're not looking to break the bank, the stone pies are pretty good. But, if you're up for a good time -- the main plates is where it's at! The Crackling Pork Shank, oh my god. Pork shanks, which come from the front leg of the pig, can be chewy when cooked incorrectly but at Trumbull Kitchen, they become succulent and flavorful masterpieces it's truly a visual and naughty taste tease. I've tried the Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon and Pan Roasted Stonington Scallops before. Although they are both delicious in their own right, the portion just isn't worth the price. Well, TK has done it again. I stopped in last night for a Goose Island beer sampling and multi-course small plates dinner. Apart from the delightful beers (and generous pours!), I need to pour my heart out about the food for a moment. First course: Huge, rich bay scallops in the shell with sweet, tart blood orange and fennel salad with tangy citron mignonette. A total delight. The next plate just about blew my mind-- lamb with sumac, pickled ramps (wild leeks) and mint lebna. We followed up with some of the sweetest, smokiest pork ribs with molasses barbecue sauce, smashed cashews and parsley dust. I know it's trite to say "fall-off-the-bone" but that's exactly what happened. Extra omnom for THAT. Paired brilliantly with an IPA. The last course...well, I can barely write about it. It's the reason Nick and I made reservations in the first place. Foie gras doughnuts with blackberry compote and black pepper powdered sugar. Absolutely freakin DIVINE . Chef mixed the foie gras with vanilla custard for the richest, butteriest treat I've perhaps ever enjoyed. O, foie gras, the brilliant forms you take! Anyway, as always, I love Trumbull Kitchen. Trendy restaurant- nice design and what looks like a full bar. Had to pay for valet (wasn't even much of a valet- he parked the car like 10 feet from where I got off bc there was not many people in the restaurant) Breadbasket (not so much bread but like crackers) comes with a dip (cream cheese like) that changes ever so often. (That's what the waitress made it sound like. She said this is the dip for tonight) The crackers were very salty but the dip was dreamy. It was a sun dried tomato dip and it was very good. Service was good. Attentive but not overbearing. Pretty good wine list. We ordered approximately 6 appetizers because we weren't super hungry. You'd think at least ONE of the appetizers would be yummy but honestly none of them were good. The flavors they "try" to create are just weird- it's like they want to be Asian fusion but I'm not sure what they are trying to fuse with? Asian fusion in general as a category of food is always a hit or miss and in Trumbull's case, quite a miss. We got the ceviche, dumplings, shrimp lettuce wrap, another fried dish like money bags, and etc. I honestly can't even remember all the dishes I got because NONE of them stood out. The portions are tiny and it's really not good Asian or Asian fusion food. I don't know what I expected bc the entire western mass/CT area does not have any good Asian food. What the heck happened? Came here on Friday night with a 7:30 reservation. The restaurant wasn't very busy and lots of the people who were there started clearing out around this time. We were seated immediately. Our server, Michael, came out and seemed amazing! He was full of energy, super friendly, cracking jokes, etc. It seemed like it was going to be a great time. Unfortunately for us, as soon as the table full of pretty girls next to us left a short time after we got there, the service was pretty nonexistent. We'd finished our first round of beers and were waiting with empty glasses to order more. Of course, we didn't know what we wanted because our beer menu had been taken away and we didn't notice. Thirsty, we'd also got to the bottom of our water glasses before Michael ever came back to check on us. When he finally did, we asked for the beer menu back, and oddly enough, he seemed to have a hard time finding one. We finally ordered another round and eventually got our beers, which took a while to come out. Again, the restaurant was not very busy at all. There were only two tables with customers in our area at this point, and we kept seeing several servers pass through the area - all except ours. Let me say the Rock Shrimp & Sweet Potato Fritters were amazing, and they came out in a reasonable amount of time. Our dinners, however, took a very long time, and all we had were two sandwiches and a burger. My chicken sandwich was just ok - nothing to write home about, and pretty pricey at $13 (I'd say not worth it). Sweet potato fries were also extremely average. Michael checked on us once during dinner. Actually it wasn't really during dinner - it was about 15 seconds after the plates had been brought out (by other staff). We never saw him again. The three of us finished our plates completely, finished our beers (would have been nice to have another), and again, finished our waters, and no sign of Michael. I went to the restroom and came back, then my friend did the same. Still no sign of him. He eventually shows up with dessert menus and we just ask for the check. He eventually goes and gets it, but not before we had to help him clear the table. I'm normally an automatic 20% tipper - that's pretty much my base, and I go above if I feel service goes above. We ended up tipping 15% and were even reluctant to do that. It's a shame, because this guy came out on fire, and really seemed like he was going to make this a great time for us. Unfortunately, it seems like he was only interested in impressing the ladies. The icing on the cake? On our way out, we saw him squatted down with two ladies at one of the tables in the patio area, taking selfies with them. I went with a couple of coworkers on a Tuesday night around 6pm - we were greeted and seated immediately. The restaurant decor, music, lighting made it a very pleasant dinner. The servers were very nice and helpful. The owner even came around to ask if we were enjoying our food. It's good to know that they actually care about the food that they serve. We ordered four appetizers to share: 1. Chicken wings - delicious.. I loved the sauce and the wings were crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. 2. shrimp roll - it was a sushi roll (tuna inside the roll) and a piece of fried shrimp on top of each piece of sushi. It was delicious! I loved the crispy shrimp, and the sushi roll was on point. The sauce that was placed on top of the shrimp was also very interesting. 3. crab cakes - unfortunately, I wasn't a big fan of this one. It was too mushy for a crab cake and the sauce wasn't a good combo. And I believe they added beans in the sauce - very weird. 4. Calamari - I love calamari but this plate didn't live up to my expectations. It didn't come with any sauce so it was a little bland. But I must say, it was fried perfectly and the salad that came with it was good. For entree, I ordered the Duck "Three Ways" - medium cooked. The duck was delicious! Perfect taste and perfectly cooked. I didn't really understand the watercress that came on the side though. Also included in the dish was strips of duck - which was too bland for me. Overall, I enjoyed my first restaurant experience in Hartford. I do want to go back and try more of their appetizers and maybe order some desserts. read more

Terrible service - host in brown cardigan more interested at whatever was on his phone than being welcoming or attentive; took forever for waitress to appear and then every step of the process seemed to take longer than each should have and there was no joy; food was over salted and over loaded with fats (butter, oil and cream). A couple of items were never delivered and because service was inattentive, we could not remedy in a timely way; back ground music was too loud and created no atmosphere. I came here with a friend and sat at the full but not too packed bar at around 7pm on a Tuesday night. I got a delectable New Fashioned (High West double rye whiskey, orange bitters, vanilla and cherry syrup), and my friend opted for a classic Moscow Mule. We split a thai roasted cauliflower, which I could eat for days; the Roasted Winter Squash salad, which had a non-overbearing orange honey vinaigrette; and the brussels sprouts with bacon, which could have been cooked a little bit more. Came on a recommendation from a friend and really wanted to like the restaurant, located in downtown Hartford, used the valet parking since I'm not familiar with the city, it's not free but convenient. Restaurant has a nice setup, bar to the right and seating to the left, rest rooms are a little weird because you need to sort of exit the restaurant to get to them bit nice and clean. Hostess was great, got seated without reservation in no time, waitress seemed a bit burned out but was pleasant, polite and efficient. Ordered the salmon deviled eggs which were very salty, ordered a Ceaser salad but it never came but that was okay, I probably over ordered though I had to have them remove it from the bill. Entree was the New York strip, cooked properly but tougher than I expected Drinks were spot on, great martini and perfect glass of cab. Okay.. Ive been back 2x now. Once for a Bday Happy Hour that I organized. There were about 10 of us. The waiter kept the apps coming and didnt screw up a single drink OR leave us waiting for an obscene amount of time for refills. By the time I left (an hour in) the place was packed and our area was getting cramped but our server was prompt and attentive despite the crowd he had to shimmy through to get to us. Most recently my boss took me here for a bday lunch. The server was fast and friendly. If he was slammed for the lunch rush he left no indication of it, which is how it should be. Trumbull Kitchen is Great! My husband and I had our first date there 4 1/2 years ago and every time we go back the service is great and the food is consistent/yummy. We have probably been there 20+ times in the past 4 years and whether it's for a birthday, anniversary, or just for the hell of it, they always deliver. I always order the appletini, but they have a wide array of cocktails to choose from. For our appetizer we usually get the cheddar/bacon fondue which is delish! For dinner my husband likes the burger which is a great deal at less than $10. I usually try something from the entree section and am never disappointed. Lovely venue at night - candle lit, with wood tables and a great wine list. There are lots of delicious yummies to nibble on with your vino; fabulous date night location. You don't have to get super dressed up, but if you feel like donning a sexy black dress this is a great place to go. The rock shrimp and sweet potato fritters were awesome, as were the truffled pomme frites with little shreds of fresh basil. The volcano roll was not bad at all (shrimp tempura with tuna tartar on top) but the spicy yellow fin crunch was forgettable and we barely touched it. The manager noticed and asked us about it and volunteered to take it off the bill even when we said it wasn't necessary. It was a very nice gesture. The grilled filet in blue cheese fondue with "tater tots" (really, fried mashed potato balls) was delicious. They were out of the vintage we ordered so they brought us a higher-rated one at the same price instead. Great servers; the service is really outstanding here. Since my first visit to Trumbull Kitchen about a year and a half ago, I have been back for 3 more restaurant week menus. Every single one has been fantastic. From appetizers including stuffed piquillo peppers, tartare, and various salads; to main entrees with roasted sirloin, scallops over risotto, and grilled swordfish; to desserts like lemon pot de creme with raspberry sauce, fruit crisps, and decadent chocolate cake; I'm always blown away by what TK has to offer. For this winter's Taste of Hartford, TK's menu was as creative as ever. I started with the chopped winter vegetable salad, which was served with a ton of quinoa and tossed in a nice lemon caper vinaigrette. My boyfriend got the chicken and apple mulligatawny soup, which had a lot of warm curry spices. Our waitress then brought us some bread and thin crackers along with with the TK cream cheese spread we've come to look forward to. The spread this time was flavored with fig and almond, and there wasn't a speck of it left by the time we were done. For my main entree, I had the grilled mahi mahi, which was served over lobster "tots" and a vanilla bean butter sauce, and topped with watercress. The mahi mahi was perfectly grilled and tender, and combined with the crunchy lobster "tots," the sweet and savory vanilla butter sauce, and the fresh watercress on top, it was absolutely incredible. My boyfriend got the kalbi beef short ribs, which were so tender and fall-off-the-bone that I understood why he was close to done with it by the time he offered to let me try any. For dessert, I got a Mexican chocolate flan with caramel and pumpkin seed toffee - the perfect blend of salty and sweet. My boyfriend got the brandied pear tart, which was the perfect end to a great meal. Basically, when I see that a restaurant week or Taste of Hartford is coming up, I refresh the website until I can see the Trumbull Kitchen menu. It's the perfect excuse for a date with an old college roommate, or a nice night out with the boyfriend. In terms of drinks, I've been able to split some quality bottles of wine, and when I'm not feeling wine, there's also a pretty good tap list. I absolutely love Trumbull Kitchen, for many reasons. Their happy hour food offerings change regularly, great selection of beer, and their staff is always very professional. If you are looking for a delicious hand-crafted cocktail, then go no further! Currently they are offering a cocktail called the "El Cafe". If you like cold brewed coffee and tequila, then this cocktail is for you. I'm not a fan of cream based cocktails, but the El Cafe was a game changer. It was layered deliciousness with the cold brewed coffee tequila mixture and the layer of cream, making each sip different. They always seem to have a good beer selection, that is constantly changing. During the week they even offer a late night happy hour menu, which makes things THAT much better. It's a hip place to be downtown. On Friday and Saturday nights they have a DJ that spins great tracks. Really great beats that are low key and enjoyable during a late dinner. During the warmer weather their outside seating is great. Not too many places offer outside seating downtown, let alone with the amount of space that TK has to offer. I frequent TK because I have never been let down or had a bad experience. I once had a minor issue with my order and it was corrected immediately. 1/30/2019 So I was working from home today and when I used to work in downtown we used to frequent to Trumbull for lunch so we thought of reliving those lunch dates. We went there around Noon. Wasn't too crowded so we were seated quickly. I ordered the Mahi Mahi sandwich without the bun and he ordered the haddock. Food was awesome. The two stars are just for the food. The staff taking care of us was weird. I felt really uncomfortable. I don't want to use the 'R' word but he never smiled never looked at us. First I thought may be he is shy or that's how he works but then we noticed him being quite jovial with others. I smiled at him so many times and thanked him every time but he never smiled back. Even when I said 'excuse me' 3-4 times when he was standing right there and looked like he didn't want to serve us. Then we got the cheque and gave him two cards to split the bill. When we got the paper to sign there was a note that we had a birthday reward expiring tomorrow since it was his birthday last week. We asked if we can use the reward today and get one entree free. He shook his head and went back. Then he came back and said we cannot get one entree because the bill is already split. Then I asked the manager if they can either extend the reward or give the entree as per the reward. Firstly she didn't even wish him knowing that it was a birthday reward. Don't have reward system if you make the customers feel embarrassed and awkward to use the reward. Not expected at all from Trumbull kitchen. You should learn something from the Salute staff. Secondly don't tell me that it's your system that you cannot give us the reward you designed!!!!! Don't have such a bad system. Make everyone customer comfortable, don't have a reward system which is not a reward actually but an embarrassment. We felt like we were asking for free food. First time in Connecticut and my husband and I ate dinner here with a friend last night. The food was phenomenal! I ordered the brick pressed chicken and it was one of the best meals I've ever had. The chicken was so juicy, perfectly seasoned, and the whipped potatoes were fantastic! I would drive back to Hartford just to eat this dish again!! For a restaurant thats's been around forever, you might forget about it or think its over its prime. It's not. Having been there now several times for lunch over the last few months, I asked myself why I haven't been coming here more often. I really haven't answered that question well. First, they have non-alcoholic "cocktails" for lunch; very creative and delicious. Mojito and Limeade are outstanding. Next, the menu. Very new-american with everything from Thai influences, to burgers, to pizzas. Something for everyone. Seasonal soups, like a Thai coconut chicken soup were delicious. And complimentary dishes like a Chicken Pad Thai (served in bowl with chopsticks) were outstanding. (Note: It's not "authentic" pad thai, but reinvented and I'm perfectly ok with that). Don't pass up certain appetizers like the rolls or the bbq chicken wings. Only bad part: Haven't had enough room for desert. Service is terrific. Attentive and quick. Took my team here for a Christmas dinner event last December. They sat us upstairs and it was nice and quiet, and a perfect place for a team dinner. Good to excellent food, great service, and an a very nice upscale place. I think they beat Salute hands down! read more
