Great spot for dinner or lunch. This was my second time to Trumbull Kitchen in as many trips into Hartford. I came for lunch last time, and this trip was for dinner with coworkers. The place has very tasteful decor and a nice atmosphere. The food was great and the service was very pleasant. I had the a Korean short ribs, which was amazing. Loved the ambiance in this cute bar! I did a happy hour session here and had a great experience. I ordered a couple of their blood orange margaritas which were so tasty with just the right amount of tequila. I had some bites too -mini salmon burger, chicken dumplings and pork belly bun. Loved it all, but my fav was the pork belly bun and salmon burger. The happy hour deals were excellent as well. I would try regular menu another time. read more

My date and I were exploring Hartford and came across this restaurant. It was wonderful. We had the grilled filet mignon tater tots, birria tacos, rock shrimp and sweet potato fritters and the waffled carrot cake (soooo delicious) for dessert. Everything was amazing! We sat outside-the ambience was great. The server we had (I don't remember his name (red head)) was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. He made great recommendations. We are here for a family wedding from out of state. Convenient walking location from the Hilton. Food was outstanding. For an app we shared the grilled filet mignon with tater tots and Stilton fondue. These are served on small skewers and so delicious. For lunch entrees we had the Italian Stone Pie with mushrooms instead of kale. Also very delicious. The fennel sausage and the ricotta were the stars on this. Bacon and blue burger special was enjoyed by my husband and my brother in law had nothing left of his fried chicken sandwich. Both came with fries and they loved them. Carrie was our bartender and she was fantastic. While the food was excellent, she made our spur of the moment lunch location choice that much more enjoyable. Highly recommended. read more

This place was surprisingly very tasty. The waiter was wonderful and kept us entertained the whole night - star war fan from Brooklyn. We got there around 5:45pm on a Saturday and there was a few people there and by the time we left it was packed. You can sit outdoor, indoor by the window or the back. For us we like indoor and the back on a booth with the view of the kitchen. We ordered a few oysters, Caesar salad minus the anchovies, shrimp and pork wonton (yummy and can taste ginger) as starters. We got the burger (delicious), buttermilk chicken (moist), seared tuna salad (nice crust and perfectly made) and the prosciutto stone pie (bottom and crust was a bit burned). When I came inside, the man at the front desk ignored me so I walked by him once I spotted her. We exchanged pleasantries and sat, a waiter came over and with a horrible attitude he was what we wanted to drink, I said a water for now, he said something but I couldn't make it out so I asked for him to repeat it. Louder, and more annoyed he did. I said I'd take a tap water with lemon. He rolled his eyes and walked away before taking my peers drink. He gave me the glass and said the lemon would be a bit without making eye contact. She asked for a different glass as hers was covered in dishwasher residue.. he took it, repeated her request and she said yes, he then rolled his eyes and walked away. Came back with a glass, filled it with water and walked off. So we walked out. Super rude, they can have the best (or worst, we don't know) food, but If you're a jerk-then your a jerk and I'll eat somewhere else. Wonderful lunch experience here. The restaurant is very attractive, and the staff are some of the nicest people I've met during my time here. The bar has quite the impressive collection of scotches and whiskeys, as well as some pretty creative cocktails (the accompanying drawings are equally impressive). For lunch, I ordered the haddock. Unfortunately it tasted like, well, just plain old fish. Nothing else. There was no seasoning, aside from a little pepper on top. The crust gave it a nice texture, but I was hoping for a bit more in terms of herbs, seasonings, or spices. However, the dish was beautifully assembled on a bed of fluffy mashed potatoes, encircled by a gorgeous bright green sofrito and topped with a mélange of arugula and shaved mango. Points for presentation. The dessert menu was impressive and it was almost stressful picking just one. The Compost Ice Cream Cookie appealed most to me, and it was a great decision. The cookies (I think they were chocolate chip oatmeal) were huge, making for a dessert that could easily be shared...but I didn't share because, well, cookies. And I loved that they used a high quality ice cream... The ice cream was so rich and the flavor of vanilla bean really came through very nicely. My only complaint; the cookies are hard, making it impossible to eat with anything but your hands (try to knife-and-fork it, and it *will* fly off of your plate. Trust me. I almost lost mine, so I know.). If the cookies were soft baked, those utensils might come in handy, but your best bet is either to deconstruct it before you eat it, or just pick it up and take a big old bite. The seasoning was perfect - very balanced with sweet and salty notes. This is an absolute MUST when you go! I found the tagliatelle with spring onion to be a bit bland. This is one of my favorite restaurants and will drive 30 minutes plus for a special occasion dinner ! The Chiang Mai curry noodles are by far one of my favorite dishes anywhere. Creamy coconut curry sauce, noodles, a hint of lime, scallions, French fried onion straws and tender pieces of beef. Seasonal drink menu is inventive and delicious. Although the menu has gotten smaller since the pandemic the staples persist and remains a favorite. Kids menu comes like a bento box with an entree, small salad, apple slices and cookie. I've been to Trumbull Kitchen a few times over the years but never had a satisfactory meal. They have very few veg/chicken options to choose from. On two separate occasions for lunch, I tried the chicken pad Thai, wasn't that great...was a bit too sweet for my taste and the last time I was here, I had the buffalo chicken wrap.. that was a disaster too, I threw most of it away. I left feeling annoyed having to pay $17 for lunch and not enjoying it though. The chicken in the wrap was way too greasy, It was a big portion but what good is that if the food terrible. On the other hand the scallop pasta that my friend had she said was excellent.. so don't bother coming here if you are a chickterian (if that's even a word). I know I won't! read more

What I tried General Tso's cauliflower : this was actually delicious. The sauce was a perfect balance of sweet, sour and spicy and the cauliflower was crispy. Pesto stone fired pizza - I liked how the crust was crispy but the breading itself was mediocre. The pesto and veggies tasted good but nothing extraordinary. A true gem! We were in Hartford for a convention but were on our own a couple of nights for dinner. Trumbull's was one of the restaurants listed as being within walking distance of our hotel and the menu looked great. After a half mile walk, we arrived early (6pm) on a Thursday with no reservations but were greeted warmly by the animated hostess and shown immediately to a table...requested a table in the corner instead and she had no problem reseating us. We were fortunate enough to get Christopher as our waiter...an amazing person who was once even an actor in major productions. He was happy to help us choose which of the amazing dishes to have, after he had quickly returned with our drink orders. The shrimp fritters are wonderful...even better than one of the specials...lobster fritters. I could go on about the other wonderful dishes, but suggest you just take a look at their online menu yourselves.... yum! There was a steel band outside on either end of the restaurant, and their music was playing, but it didn't put a damper on a wonderful experience. read more

We shared a few appetizers that I wasn't able to get pictures of since I hadn't explained to everyone my Yelp status lol Items ordered were: -Szechuan Pork Dumplings Black bean sauce, scallion, sesame, Grilled -Filet Mignon, Truffled "tater tots", frisee, blue cheese fondue -Oak Grilled Octopus Shaved fennel, caperberries, warm lemon vinaigrette, micro lemon balm -Clams Casino Pie Applewood bacon, mozzarella, fresh oregano Every appetizer was extremely flavorful, my favorite being the Octopus! I ordered the Traditional Caesar Romaine hearts, parmesan, anchovies, HBC croutons to start, it needed a bit more salad dressing it was a bit dry. For my entree I decided on the Grilled Chicken Pasta Linguini, locally grown mushrooms, truffle coulis, arugula, Parmesan...One word! HEAVEN! We decided to close out the season with one of our favorites. Downtown Hartford couldn't be without this culinary staple. Trumbull Kitchen closed for the winter, but we highly anticipate their return. The dim lighting not only served as backdrop for the seductiveness of date night, but also as the personification of the lights going out (temporarily) during this time for the restaurant industry due to the negative impact of COVID. Our sever Steve was attentive as could be amongst the hubbub of the last open tables of the evening. We wait with baited breath for Spring and their return. Went here with quite large party - 9 people for lunch. The food was okay but the service was a little weak. Our waiter seemed like he didn't have a lot of patience. We felt a little rushed. It took a while to get our food, but again we were a large party. The menu looked full, with many offerings. We were there for business so we went there on the recommendation of one of our hosts. My husband and I went there for the first time this week & feel completely bamboozled by the Yelp reviews. I'll give credit where it's due: the ambiance was inviting & nice, and also the bar tender & food runner were both so kind. Bartender makes a perfect martini also! But the food was not impressive at all. We got their wings, and it was shriveled up & just covered in sauce as if it was an attempt to rehydrate it. The buffalo chicken wrap was overwhelmingly just bleu cheese, with yet again, dry chicken. The pork belly tacos probably would have also been dry if the fat from the pork wasn't covering the entirety of the tacos, and even the plate. The tacos were decent, but I think a nice dressing/sauce on it would really elevate it. I got it with rice & beans, and the rice was still hard. I ate all the beans probably because I was hungry & it was the only warm item on my plate. We won't be going back for food, but the bar was pleasant enough. read more

I've always known that Trumbull Kitchen would be an amazing option based off of what others have told me. I'm glad that I can finally confirm this with my own experience after all these years. I just happened to be there on the final day of CT Restaurant week and I decided to try their special menu they offered for it. For about $30, you get a 3 course meal. To start I had the Crawfish Chicken Chowder. It was really good. Small but heavy serving. The Crawfish was there and so was the Chicken. For my main course I had the Pressed Chicken w/litterally a smear of roasted mashed potatoes, roasted carrots and some sort of apple stuffing. Normally I'd be pissed at the amount of mashed potatoes but I reminded myself that I need to oversee that type of stuff in a place like this. It was the perfect compliment to the chicken. You don't need a lot because the apple stuffing was already heavy and the flavor of the mashed potatoes was all you needed, not the entire side dish. I can confirm this theory as I was indeed, really full at the end of my meal. The chicken was excellent. Tender, juicy, went perfectly with the stuffing and everything else of course. I had some sort of dessert. I apologize for not remembering the name because I no longer eat sweets like that after having a long talk with my dermatologist. Any sweets you see me post usually aren't mine. So that's why I forgot the name of it and what it was in general. There, that's my excuse but from what I was told, it was good. The one I do remember was a Chocolate Cake w/a raspberry based sauce. That one was really good. I'll admit I did take bite and it was excellent. our server was great, and our food runner was goofy - we ordered the duck dumplings (i'm pescatarian, but wanted to try, and so glad i did!!) and he delivered them with a "ducky dumpies!" the art and lighting is perfect, and while it's not quiet it doesn't feel unnecessarily loud or hard to hear a conversation!! i can't wait to come back to hartford to try more off the menu - the lobster was cooked perfectly and while some of the combinations in dishes are things i wouldn't think of, everything is paired so well that you can't stop eating!!! perfectly addictive and a well spent meal. thank you so much! read more
