I have been to this location of Maxwell's with my mother multiple times, but today will be our last time. I have the beef tenderloin ceaser poboy, which was disappointing. The beef was overcooked and flavorless, and the big pieces of mushroom that were in the gravey were a nasty surprise. Not much Caesar salad or dressing on my poboy either. My mother ordered a BLT that for some reason included pimento cheese. The side of fries she ordered was greasy and cold. The oil wasn't hot enough for frying, and the fries were not fresh and had a nasty undertaste--maybe the oil was old. $34 spent on inedible food. The food was never spectacular on previous visits, but at least it was edible. Did this place change management lately? read more

Maxwell's is actually a favorite spot of mine, but I sadly have to give them 2 stars after this last visit. The Ragin' Cajun pork poboy was a joke. It had about 1/4 the amount of meat and grilled onions on it than you would imagine. The bread to meat ratio was about a 1 to 10. Maybe they were low on pork? Or maybe it's a new chef? I don't know, but my friend and I both were very disappointed in these sandwiches this time. Maxwell's is normally a home run, but this time was a bust. Please redeem yourself Maxwell!! Maxwell's is always consistently good- it's less than a mile from my parents house and we order from them every time we visit. My favorite is their grilled chicken club sandwich on wheatberry bread. My daughter LOVES their Chicken tenders- but I think it's mostly as a way to eat a ton of their delicious honey mustard. :) I know they get super busy and parking can be tricky but it's a popular place.... read more

The first time we ordered the Tenderloin Cesar Poboy. It was great, my wife and I split it and it was plenty enough for both of us. The second and third time we ordered the same sandwich. It was much smaller and certainly not enough for us to split. This last time, on my half of the Poboy, I had two small pieces of tenderloin, two large pieces of Portabella mushroom and almost no Cesar Salad. We thought I would give you another shot after the last disappointing sandwich. Gave you a second chance because we have been purchasing from your store since it was built. Not acceptable. I love this neighborhood market. Because I live so close, I'm here quite often. These are the things I love getting from there the most: (specialty) local goods, locally-made desserts, house-made pies, catering platters, burgers and sandwiches. Yes, things are marked up a bit more, but it's designed like a convenience store. One can easily get in and and get out. For catering platters, they usually need a couple days notice and their pricing is affordable. During the holidays, I purchased an apple caramel pie from there that was out-of-this-world. If you are in need of wine, they have plenty of stock! Again, don't go there expecting low prices. You will get good customer service and wonderful local products. If you love king cake, during Mardi Gras season, Caluda's king cake was available there (instead of driving to Harahan for your your fix). I've never had issues with parking, even during peak times and the checkout lines even move quickly. read more

Can't believe I've never been here but it will not be my last. I had no idea they had a fresh meat case, a deli and Po boys, fried and grilled seafood and sandwiches salads. Even wine and some staples like pasta and gourmet snacks. I bought Fruit salad, chicken salad, chicken salad with nuts & fruit and tuna salad. I was at Maxwell's on Monday, 6/20/22 and had a delicious sandwich. As I was checking out, the young person ringing me up was rude, extremely slow, eating Doritos, and touching my purchases with her nasty, cheesy fingers. I walked into Maxwell's on Perkins just a few minutes ago and a wonderful young lady named Catelyn waited on me and went above and beyond to help me with my family's requests. She did in fact ask if there were anymore Twice Baked Potatos because all were gone from the shelf and they were prepping for tomorrow and had several made already. Can I tell you? Catelyn made my day. Her manager was also very friendly who helped me in their meat department. My mom and dad are not doing well healthwise and to be assisted and helped as I was this afternoon made me smile. Their customer service is top notch as well as their food. read more

Very blah experience. I stopped in for a late lunch and the place was pretty dead. Has a snobby feel to it. The employees just started at me except for the young girl behind the counter. She was nice enough to show my the lunch menu. The place really needs a broom run across the floor... A mop wouldn't hurt either. There's a good wine selection and a few groceries in the isles. They appear to have a good deli selection. There are fountain sodas as well as bottled. I ordered the maxwell Cuban to eat. Took quit a while to be made but it was worth the wait. Tasted very good. I have a three star and that was mostly on the appearance of the place and the lack of communication of the employees. But I would give the sandwich I ordered a four star for the taste. read more

When one of my coworkers heard that I had a meeting across the street from this Maxwell's her immediate request was that I bring her chocolate chip cookies. Seriously the cookies are laced with some sort of super addictive substance....you've been warned. I probably ate at this Maxwell's at least once a week from October 2005 until June 2006. It was good to see the quality is still there. I love their shrimp salad sandwich (on sourdough) and now they carry Elmer's CheeWees (one of my NOLA obsessions). The take out stuff is good too. Mixed feelings--we have tried the burger and fries a few times. The meat seems good quality and on a brioche bun. There is a special burger on chalkboard--today's was with a sensation salad in/on it. I would have been happier just getting a side sensation salad. The regular fully-dressed cheeseburger seemed better to me. The fries are very good. However, we bought an eggplant parm from the prepared foods section... it is $20 for a thin layer of eggplant over a lot of overcooked spaghetti in red sauce. There is hardly any cheese on top of the eggplant. What a robbery! One lb of spaghetti costs less than $2 in the store.... so we just feel really ripped off. This place has really good sandwiches but does not seem to be run very well. I ordered two sandwiches and waited for thirty minutes then went back to the deli counter to ask about them and they told me that they were already at the cashier. The cashier told me that they were sorry but they must have slipped on that one and they would make my sandwiches really quick this time. Waited another twenty minutes and they gave me the wrong order but I didn't have any more time to wait. Don't go unless you have an hour or more to wait for deli sandwiches. read more

I love Maxwell's, and we often frequent many of the locations for after-school treats and meals to take home--so this poor review truly pains me--but this particular location has consistently delivered very burned or old cookies and baked goods lately, and even our bags of chips were expired on two occasions recently. I even returned a very black cookie the other day, and the girl couldn't find one that wasn't hard as a rock to give me. She apologized, but also didn't offer me a refund:( I am a big Maxwell's Market fan, but I am hoping this doesn't become the norm. Let me just say that I LOVE the Crab and Brie Dip, the stuffed chicken breasts and a few other things...and that's the only reason I am there once a week. However, those people that "work" the cash register are so rude and have 0 people skills or personalities. I mean, saying "Hi, how are you...did you find everything ok?" The food is good and the deli selection is fine but you can read all about that in the other posts. Everyone has their own perspective as it relates to their tastes and lifestyle. From my perspective, what matters is RELIABILITY... which Maxwell's Market lacks entirely. When I go, I make orders for my bosses because it's what they like but when Maxwell's fails yet again, I'm the one who looks bad. What it comes down to is that I made a bad judgment call ordering Maxwell's and expecting that the order be correct and on time. It has never once been correct or on time. I'm completely disappointed because they have the potential to be better. If they were well-staffed and practiced better communication and customer service altogether, this review would have most certainly gone in a different direction. Unfortunately, I will not be giving them another chance to have me wait 30 additional minutes, rush to work, then rush back again to get the items they inherently forgot. If things change, good for them. Until then.. only go on a lazy Sunday when you've got all day and patience to spare. read more

There isn't much seating, the parking is limited, and the wait for food can take up to 30 minutes - that's for a sandwich. The place is nice and trendy, so while you wait you can browse different types of wines, cuts of meats, imported cheese, along with other specialty goods. Overall the place is A-Ok in my book. I tried Maxwell's for lunch today and it was really good. I got the BBQ roast beef sandwich which came with BBQ sauce and grilled onions. The roast beef was really thin sliced and piled on high. The bread was soft and the BBQ sauce was kind of think and sweet. I loved it. I ordered the cheese fries after the employee on the phone told me they were legit. He was right. Crispy fries with a blend of cheeses. They had really good ranch to dip it in. It was a BIG lunch and I was dragging afterwards, but either the poboy or the fries would've been enough for me lol. I traveled to Baton Rouge for a wedding and ordered a party platter for the bridal suite. The platter consisted of four salads: blackened chicken, shrimp, fruit, and marinated asparagus. It all arrived on one large compartmentalized platter. I needed to keep all of the food cold using the hotel's mini fridge, so I asked if they could individually pack each salad in a smaller container. They obliged and once served, each salad was a hit. The salads were fresh and flavorful, portions were large enough to feed 6-8 people, and the price was reasonable at $66. I will definitely return when I'm in town and need to feed a small group again. read more
