I ordered diner last night for pick up. Chicken fajitas, Nachos Maya and a large order of chips and salsa. 75 dollars' worth of food. I pick it up, put it in my car, no worries. When I got home, I take the bag out of the front seat and walk to my house. 10 seconds later the bag rips open. Everything drops to the street and spills open. Nothing can be saved! From what I can tell from the mess on the street. The Chicken fajitas were on the very bottom followed by the Nachos then everything else. The food was put in cheap aluminum dishes with clear covers. This cheap aluminum crap was absolutely the worst stuff to put hot food in. Cafe Maya looks like a great place to get your drunk on. But do not order food to go. It will not make the trip. read more

A girlfriend and I had an early dinner after we went to a play at the Maya Cafe and Cantina. She had a mojito, and enjoyed it so much, that she had a second. For an appetizer, we had freshly made guacamole, along with fresh nacho chips and freshly made salsa. The owner (and I think, his wife) checked on us twice, and so did our server. My girlfriend had Enchilada De Mole Poblano and I had Nachos Maya as my main dish and Sopa De Frijol. We both loved our meals. The ambience was beautiful. Also the restroom was immaculate and beautiful, in pink and peach. We arrived about 5:30 PM and had a 15 minute wait, and when we left two hours later, the waiting room was full. My fiancé and I came here for an early dinner on a double date with friends. We were seated right away and the service throughout our meal was great. Our waiter brought salsa and chips for our table. We ordered guac to share and the portion size was ridiculously small. The least our waiter could have done was ask us if we want to double the serving, being that guac made out of one avocado is clearly not an appropriate amount to share among four people. As soon as you walk in you can see the mexican flags and pictures. I felt like i was actually in mexico. They had a mariachi band playing right along side the tables. We started off with a corn on a cob. It was delicious but cold. Now for the margaritas. They tasted like flavored water. l ordered the 3 mini burritos and my girlfriend had the 3 tacos. It had an alright flavor but it was too wet. I mean once i got my burrito and pick it up it just broke in half because of how soggy it was!! Walked in on a busy Sat night and immediately loved the vibe. It's a loud, no fuss, casual Mexican eatery with live music and good service. It's good for groups and would also be comfortable for parties with children. The blood orange margarita was a little weak, more like juice, but it was served in a large glass. I have been here before and the food was not that bad. I went here yesterday and had a terrible experience. The food itself was not bad. The service was beyond horrible. The waiter taking our order forgot half of our order and asked again before submitting it to the kitchen. We also ordered a togo meal to take with us. After the food came out we waited over 15 minutes for the check. After I got the check I noticed the togo meal was not even on bill. I asked the server if he forgot he said no. But then after 5 minutes asked what I wanted togo again. Then he said it should be out in 5 minutes. After 10 minutes he said it should be out in 5 minutes again. At this point my baby was screaming to leave. I spoke to the manager on the way out but did not say anything but sorry. The Best Mexican Food I Ever Had. My wife and I were on a road trip passing through Fishkill and on a whim we stopped at Maya Cafe for lunch. It didn't look like anything special. I expected Americanized Mexican food. Instead we found excellent authentic Mexican Food presented on beautifully artistic plates. My wife had Avocate Relleno. It was a 1/2 of an avocado overflowing with shrimp in a light sauce. Surround this was a beautiful sliced fruit salad with papaya, pineapple, watermelon, cantalope, honeydew melon, grapes and some fried sweet bananas. It was delicious. I had the Verano Quesedillas. It was a flour tortilla with cheese, shrimp, cactus and rojos poblanos served with guacamole and sour cream. Excellent. It also came with a beautifully presented salad. Again some of the best Mexican food I ever had. I live in NJ but I will be sure to visit this hidden gem of a restaurant again. read more

Tonight though, we were coming from sleepy hollow and 20 minutes away I called to place a to go order. A lady picked up, told me to hold a second... I did, for 10 minutes... then they just hang up on me. I called again, another lady answered, apologized after I told her I'm trying to place an order but someone hang up on me after I was on hold for 10 minutes. She took the order, told us 15 minutes but we were 5 minutes away so we just went in and stood at the bar, had a drink and waited for the food. We still tipped 20-25% but I was disappointed. I know they were probably busy, but I wish there was another way for them to be prepared. My 2 stars review is solely for the fact that I felt that there could have been a better experience if they didn't hang up on me. We moved to Cold Spring a year ago and while everyone recommended Maya, it slipped our mind. We finally tried Maya recently and boy, did we feel like we missed out on a year of AMAZING Mexican food! Mexican is not typically my favorite cuisine, but Maya certainly changed my opinion. The first time we ordered, we got the jalapeño poppers wrapped in bacon, as well as the steak quesadilla. Both so delicious. My husband got the enchiladas and I got the shrimp with garlic. Husband said the enchiladas were the best he's ever had. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. The second time, I got the pork simmered with oj and other spices. It came with a side of tortillas and rice and beans. WOW. I crave this now. Go try Maya out! You won't regret it. read more

When my fellow Yelpers anoint a place with a solid four stars it sucks me in every time. I was in the area on business. I didn't have time for dinner but I needed an adult libation or two or three. I pulled into the parking lot and zippy Mexican music was being piped outside. I did my version of a Mexican dance across the lot. It was an ugly site and that was without any Margs in me yet! I sat at the bar and loved the atmosphere. It's a little bit divey and a little bit Mexican cliché but I felt comfortable. One of two cute bartenders swooped in with decent chips and salsa. I decided to splurge on a Top Shelf Margarita ($10). They are made with Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice and I could choose my own tequila. I went with Patron. This was one excellent Marg with an emphasis on freshness. It was so good I opted for one more. My Mexican, tequila enhanced, dancing was much better as I headed back to my car! I found myself in Fishkill for a wedding some time ago, but forgot to post a review for Cafe Maya. Forgive me if it's short of details. We went on a Sunday morning, it came highly recommended and I'd never had a Mexican brunch so I was all for it. Place was fairly crowded when we went, which I believe to be a good sign and not just lack of options. Food was good and came out fast. I can't remember what I ate because it was about 4 months back but if I didn't like it I'd remember that much! Knowing me it was chicken taco's. I took some pictures, maybe you can figure out what everything is. I know we ordered guacamole and that it was made fresh at our table. Always nice to know it's made with real ingredients. Love at first bite. This is apparently a family run establishment that prides itself on great food and service. Could use a broader selection of IPAs considering the geography. The barbacoa tacos were smokey and sublime. All the food coming out from the kitchen looked absolutely amazing .. patrons rejoiced at being served. Can't wait to come back.
