Everything was excellent the ambiance, the food and the drinks. We sat outside on the patio. Very pretty. I highly recommend it. The food and drinks were great. And despite that they are always busy, the service is still good. My only complaint is the price. I have no problem paying for their high quality food and drinks. I just hate that they charged an extra 3% "hospitality" charge for 2 people and then still force you to pay a minimum of 20% or higher tip. I normally pay 20% or higher tips anyway, but their computer still forces you to tip at least a minimum 20%. I was not aware of the extra 3% "hospitality" charge until I got home. read more

I just finished dining with Maya del Sol for the first time and I knew I had to write this review right away. Service: Phillip was amazing ! He provided amazing service and was super sweet and knowledgeable about the menu. Honestly one of the best servers I've had in a long time. Food: super good quality! The portions are big enough to share. I got to take some home because I was full from how big the cochinita pibil was. The drinks are definitely worth trying. Had a great time and dinner on a Sunday evening recently at Maya Del Sol. Staff were friendly and inviting as soon as I was greeted at the door outside. Staff all had masks on and tables were appropriately positioned following CDC guidelines; thank you for creating a good dining experience while keeping the safety of customers a top priority! My friend and I had patio seating which was organized well to adhere to guidelines as well. I've been to a few restaurants during COVID as things begin to loosen up and have noticed the quality of food has declined while the prices have increased. Maya Del Sol was the first restaurant where I felt they didn't skip a beat with quality food... KUDOS. I forgot our sever's name but was such a pleasure to have over the evening! My friend ordered the salmon dish and I ordered the Carne Asada which I highly recommend. Ordered medium, the kitchen was spot on with the temperature of my steak. I recommend the sangria as an accompanying drink - refreshing during a hot summer evening. We finished our dinner with flan which was excellent. Highly recommend coming and felt safe to dine without a skip in beats regarding COVID. I plan on returning as there are a few dishes on their main menu I want to try. read more

I tried to hold out until the nice weather and until the beautiful patio was open, but of course we came on the coldest zero degree day instead. Regardless the place was packed (even for a Saturday night) but luckily we were seated for our reservations right away. We opted to not drink cocktails for once and just ordered our food instead at the beginning. The server was nice and offered some suggestions which was appreciated. The only thing that was extremely odd about our first visit was that the food came out almost instantly (definitely 5 mins or less). Usually we would be annoyed, but we were starving and wanted to rush back to catch something on tv on that particular night lol. A friend and I went here and had a fabulous time. It seems to be a great spot no matter who you're with, whether it's a date, dinner with family, or out with girl friends! In my case it was also the perfect location to meet a friend coming from the burbs when I was coming from the city! To start, I was craving a fruity drink and opted for the mangaso. HOLY HEAVEN! This literally tasted like I was drinking straight mango. Would recommend you only order if you really, really love mango, like I do! :) It hit the spot... and I may have ordered another.... 2. Ha! My friend and I then split some plates. We had the sweet corn with ricotta tamales with a poblano cream sauce and really enjoyed them! Everything about them was unique and really good. The sweetness worked really well with that poblano cream sauce to balance it. For dinner we ordered the fish tacos and steak tacos and split them. They were both AMAZING. The fish tacos were so delicate and crisp. Melt. In. Your. Mouth. YUM! And then the steak tacos were just to-die-for!! The best margaritas in Chicagoland. Full stop. Check out the incredible patio during the summertime, sit at a high-top near the bar, or even get takeout from this gem in the west suburbs. My wife and I live in the neighborhood now but we would drive out or take the Green Line from downtown where we lived for 5+ years at least once a month for the incredible drinks and delicious food at Maya del Sol. You can't go wrong with almost anything on the menu, from the fresh Maya Salad (add the adobo-glazed shrimp to make it a filling meal) to the cochinita pibil, a fork-tender braised pork that is my personal favorite. One of our all-time favorites and a can't miss destination in Oak Park. read more

Seriously, why is this place so gosh darn good. I've been a couple times in the past and I remembered loving it. But eating the food I was like...what took me so long to come back!? Everything from start to finish was just delicious and I really think it's the best meal one can have in Oak Park. Maya Del Sol has a good variety of drinks for purchase. I started with a Marz Jungle Boogie Mango which was on tap! I love Marz! I love the OG Jungle Boogie! And this variation was great. Later, I tried a seasonal cocktail they had the Calabaza drink for $11. Loved it! We started our meal with the Guacamole for $10. To be honest, we were all a bit sad when it came out in just a regular small bowl. Not a huge portion and no stone bowl, not made table side. However, when I dug into it, I swear to you it was the best guac I've ever had! Great flavor and so insanely creamy. My friends also ordered the Nachos $12 to get the party started. I'm not big on nachos so felt very meh about the order but when I had some of them, WOW was my mind changed. Again, I had never had nachos this good. They braise their beef for the chips in mangos and that flavor just made the dish mind blowing. Why does every place not do this!? Amazing flavor and so moist. I will get this every time I come to Maya Del Sol now! When I last came, 4 long years ago, I had the Calabaza Rellena. I was obsessed at the time and was so happy to see it still on the menu! And!!! The price was still $18, no increase. What a magical world we live in! And everything remains as amazing as ever! A roasted acorn squash is set on the middle of the plate filled with risotto style rice, wild mushrooms, yucca, chayote, sweet corn and a serrano-butter sauce to tie it all together. I cannot explain how good this dish was. All the ingredients tied together perfectly in a creamy and smooth sauce, with the rice mixture pouring out of the squash. Tons of flavor and am obsessed with this dish. I had leftovers for lunch because the portion was so generous and even after being reheated, still tasted fantastic. Love, Love, Love Maya Del Sol! We had dinner on Tuesday seven of us total. We were all coming from different directions and arriving at separate times and the staff was very amenable to letting us sit at the table if we wanted to early. We chose to sit at the bar first and enjoy a drink and then moved the table as others joined us. The guacamole was nice and spicy and the trio of the beaches at $18 was a bit of a stretch given how much they gave but I guess I could see each one being six dollars separately. The salmon ceviche it was a little fishy and tasted a tad off to me, both the tilapia and the scallop versions were very good. They serve it with long strips of fried plantains which were fine but they were nowhere near enough plantains for the amount of ceviche and for the $18 there should've been at least two, maybe three times as many plantain strips. My better have ordered the carne asada skirt steak and thoroughly enjoyed it, I tasted a small piece and it was very tender and will seasoned. My dish was the shrimp with black rice and a little chipotle cream sauce. It was extremely flavorful and the shrimp were well seasoned and perfectly cooked, not dry or rubbery. One person ordered the roasted acorn squash which was one of the four or five vegetarian dishes at the bottom of the entrée section. He added some shrimp and the presentation was very nice looking with the curl shrimp placed in the squash kind of like they are done when it is a shrimp cocktail order. He said it was very flavorful and squash was tender. We tested the tamales and they were very moist, not dry the way so many tamales can be. Everything on the menu sounded fantastic and although Oak Park is not in our neighborhood if we were in the vicinity and had the opportunity to have dinner there we certainly would and do recommend it to others. read more

We've been here multiple times. Usually that means a restaurant will stumble at least once but I can honestly say that Maya Del Sol has never failed to meet my expectations and then some. Most recently we (along with 5 of our friends) tried out their new tasting menu, which seems to be their new Thursday night thing. We loved it!! Outstanding tasting menu with each course paired with a drink from whatever liquor they are showcasing that night. For us, it was mezcal. Really loved my meal here! The salsas that come with the complimentary chips have great depth of flavor. Main courses were the ropa vieja and a cheeseburger (picky eater) and both were great. The ropa vieja was a bit too salty to where I couldn't finish it in one sitting despite not being totally full yet. We ordered the churros for dessert and they were described as being chocolate filled, but instead came with some sort of caramel filling, which was disappointing although tasty. This is a great spot, sad I just discovered it. Met an old friend for Happy Hour. Specials were alright - pickanna margarita, sangria and Mexican beer are half off. The margarita was a little sweet. We split an order of nachos which were really good. The real star of the show is the patio. It's is huge and sun drenched. Great service as well. My best friend surprised me a few weeks ago by taking us both to dinner here, and I was blown away by how delicious and lovely this place was! I don't spend a lot of time in the Oak Park area, and I was honored to learn more about its restaurant scene. We arrived around 7pm on a slightly chilly Saturday evening, and were kind of sad that it wasn't warm enough to sit on the patio. Let me clarify: the staff offered us a patio spot, but we declined because we weren't dressed to sit outside when it was 50-ish degrees out. I'll be ready soon when it's 70 or higher, hopefully! My friend had made us a reservation for 6:45, so we were a little late after trying to find parking, but the staff was understanding and didn't give us a hard time at all. Instead, they let us know that a table inside would be prepared for us and we were seated within 5 minutes. Our waiter was friendly and gave us both some advice on which margaritas to order. I explained that I loved a margarita with a smoky taste but not too spicy, and he offered up Maya Del Sol's mezcal margarita, which ended up being a fabulous option. I'm glad I took his opinion into consideration, and I highly recommend this one if you're a fan of the smokiness of mezcal in your drink! For our main meal, my friend and I both went for the restaurant's fish tacos. I ordered mine fried, and she ordered hers blackened. The aioli on top gave this taco its unique taste. Plus, we ordered a side of Brussels sprouts, which were perfectly crispy and a surprisingly smart addition to our taco plates. Besides parking being tricky on the weekends in this area, I definitely recommend visiting Maya Del Sol for some Mexican fusion fun. You'll probably want to try a few of the restaurant's margaritas, anyway, so why not get someone to drop you off? ;) read more

The last item was probably the most challenging to satisfy for an intimate affair as many places have party rooms on the second floor and not all have elevators and we had two guests this would be a struggle for. I grew up in Oak Park and we're in town fairly regularly, but had never eaten here until we did a tasting. During our planning, we worked with two individuals - Erin and Francesca and they both did a wonderful job to make sure we had the best day possible. We worked with Francesca initially to discuss the space, event package, and menu. Erin became our point of contact about 2 months out and was wonderful. She was thorough, responsive and organized. We had one guest with a nut allergy and she ensured everything was safe for him to eat. When we thought there was a chance it would rain on our wedding day, she helped put together some rain plan choices. Everything on our wedding day was perfect, even the weather. We had the back, covered portion of the patio and section adjacent to it for our cocktail hour. The event was well organized from the ceremony, to cocktail hour, to dinner and dessert. The staff assigned to our party were friendly and attentive. Everyone raved about the food and the space. Picking MDS for our wedding was a great choice for us. It fit the vibe we were going for - fun and festive - and the staff could not have been more accommodating. read more
