FIRE tacos. I got the ground beef, shrimp and fish tacos... a good and satisfying meal for $13. Hot sauce (spicy) & green sauce (refreshing) were really good alongside both! Would definitely come back for a quick bite!

2026 update. Still the best hot sauce in Oakland. Probably all of California. It's that's good. I prefer the black beans over refried beans. Steak Fries/Chicken Fries are the best deal imo. It's not a cheap spot. But the portions are large. Like two people can eat one burrito or fries order and be full. Multiple friends love the guac and pico. Casa Latina has better protein but the sauce here, I cannot move on. I'm trapped by it.

I ordered from this Taqueria through doordash. Let me just start off by saying this was a solid choice. The ingredients in the burrito were all perfect it wasn't oily it wasn't too much of anything. All the ingredients really meshed well. The rice was fluffy the guac was yummy and i loved the grilled onions in there. As for the steak fries i'll give it a 3/5. The fries wasn't really giving, it lacked flavor and it just tasted old, however everything on top was good I just wish the fries were a lot warmer and like crunchy and soft on the inside but i also did get it for delivery so maybe it is best when fresh. I'd definitely come back though to try more things!

I ordered through DoorDash and specifically selected the option with cheese, chicken, and guacamole. I received only plain cheese and chicken--no guacamole at all. When I called the restaurant to let them know, they were incredibly dismissive and said it didn't matter. There is no notice on the app that they don't serve guacamole on Sundays. Very disappointing food and even worse customer service.

This is the only Halal Taqueria I've heard of so I needed to give it a try. I got the steak super burrito and it was delicious and well priced. It seems to be a takeout only establishment with no seating but that's fine given its central location. The food did take about 15 mins to be ready so if you're on a time crunch keep that in mind. Otherwise, I'd recommend giving this place a try!

I've been on the hunt for delicious, authentic Mexican food - and I've found it! It took about a month, but no complaints here, because OMG! I ordered tacos, chips and guacamole, salsa, etc. for a staff luncheon and it was so freaking good! I couldn't even get a good picture, because by time I was able to grab my phone, everyone was on their second plate. Myself included! This was delivered to us by the way. The food was fresh, hot, and again, absolutely delicious. I have officially saved this restaurant and plan to return myself. If I could rate 10 stars, I would. Next time I'm trying the birria!

This is the spot for some late night bomb a** food! (Well anytime really but especially after drinking!) The steak Cheeto burrito (5/5) was so cheesy and flavorful! It's huge too! My husband craves this at least once a week. The steak fries (4/5) are also very good. They come with your choice of refried or pinto beans. 4/5 because I've ordered twice and the second time the fries tasted a bit old. Fish taco (5/5) is one of my favorites. It's fried and just comes with onion and cilantro but the fish has great flavor. The orange hot sauce they offer is soo good and spicy! It's literally goes on everything! (I save my leftovers and use on my egg breakfasts) Green sauce is really good too! It's literally just an order and pick up window not a sit down place to eat with some street parking. Service is quick, we call in our order and it's ready within 15/20 minutes.

Great food, a literal hole in the wall. The food is fresh. Well seasoned and if it matters to you Halal. I tried the vegan flautas, super well made late with Beans and Rice and a small Mexican style salad (lettuce and tomatoes)

346 14th St Oakland, CA 94612 "Maya Halal Taqueria" is located on the corner of Webster St & 14th Street in downtown Oakland. I was there on a Saturday evening. The place seemed small, so I took my order to-go. I ordered the - - Super Nachos with Ground Beef, Light Rice, and Refried Beans. - Super Taco with Fish. I have to say, this was probably the best nachos I ever had. The chips were layered with more cheese and meat underneath. I asked for light rice, so I got tons of beans, sour cream and ground beef. Very good flavor, and fresh ingredients. Very big generous serving. Grade (5/5). The Super Taco was a big glob of toppings and some fish. I tasted more sour cream, than fish. Grade (3/5). Service was OK. I had to wait a bit for my food, but so did everyone else. Street parking. Welcome to Oakland, be aware of your surroundings and stay safe.

We got a burrito, fish fries, and steak fries.fish was flavorful. Steak was flavorful but the fries?! :(( man. Hard no. They tasted like old McDonald's fries. Hard and dry, even semi cold bits... which ruined the meal. Waste of money. Burrito was a rice beans and cheese...good and basic.

I noticed they have hot cheetos on one of their meals. Since hot cheetos are not halal, is it safe to assume only the meat is bought halal but other items may or may not be halal/kosher? For example what brand cheese do they use?

The kabeb dishes came with grilled tomato, grilled pepper, rice with tadig on top. They also make this pink butter to put on the rice. Food is good and everything was seasoned well and not over cooked. I want to give this place a try again but they need to work on their customer service. They catered more to other tables and we didn't even get offered the dessert menu like the other tables around us. Also, we had to ask for the check and no one even came to check if we were ready to pay we had to go up there.

We ordered a mini lamb wrap, mini chicken wrap, rose tamarind drink and mint lemonade. The lamb was gristly and dry, so I preferred the chicken wrap, but was disappointed to find that it featured only chicken (well-seasoned and juicy) and did not have any tomatoes, cucumbers, or other vegetables like the lamb wrap did. The chicken wrap was only chicken and lavash. Perhaps it was an oversight on the staff's part, even though the restaurant was not busy during a Friday lunch. And it also still took some time to get our orders out even though we were the only ones in line and there were only two other parties eating there. Maybe there were tons of to-go orders they had to fulfill? I'll be sure to check out the Santa Clara location as well in the future, but for this luncheon, we had to temper our disappointment by going around the corner to get some Gregory's.

I'm glad they've moving locations in a week. Wait staff was friendly. We got the veggie sampler for two ($40) and the meat sampler for one ($23). The veggie sampler was very filling, and each dish was flavorful. My friends enjoyed the meat dishes. The dishes came with plenty of injera. The spicy red lentils were my favorite as well as the carrot/cabbage/potato mix. I can't stomach onions so I was happy none of the veggie dishes included chunks in them. They were probably in there but blended or cooked down to nothing. My friend is diabetic so he couldn't eat a lot of the injera. We asked and the wait staff brought him eating utensils. When we entered, we stood around for a while and then figured out we were supposed to go to the back right where there's a few chairs put together for a waiting area. I flagged down a staff member and they had me put my name on a wait list. We were there early on a Friday (around 6pm), so we only had a short wait. Although this place has a decent amount of tables, I can imagine long waits during peak times. I'm glad they're moving to a new location in about a week and I hope it's quieter. We sat in the semi enclosed outside area and even there was loud. Voices echo throughout and since the restaurant is near a stoplight outside, cars and motorcycles blaring music go by constantly. Many were so loud just about the entire restaurant turned their heads to look at what was so noisy. As soon as we finished eating I suggested we leave since I could barely hear our conversation.

When I approached the front counter, the lady present was very standoffish with me. I informed her of why I was there and she asked my name for the order. Upon giving her my name she then glared at me and literally asked me to recite my entire order lol! I showed her my online receipt in which she then insisted I still tell her my order. She brushed away my receipt and let another customer cut in front of me. Interestingly, the customer told her his name and she retrieved his order with no issue and was very friendly with him. To note, I was the only Black person present at that time. When I inquired as to why that customer wasn't asked to recite his entire order, she grinned and said that he's a "regular" and that I was "new." She went on to let a few other customers cut in front of me. I then asked for my money back in which she refused to return. Even when I asked for the manager, she said he was very busy. I made several requests for this resulting in her saying no and refusing to return my money. I then noted to her I'm calling the authorities in which I did. Furthermore, while servicing some of the other patrons, she would speak in another language with them while they looked at me and start laughing and staring me down. Eventually, the manager came out. He presented himself professionally and upon explaining what occurred he apologized and said it was unacceptable. He even offered me a drink with my meal and asked that I please accept the order instead and wanted to make things right. I took him at face value and said fine. While the situation was remedied, I definitely will not be returning to this restaurant. I researched some of the other reviews and came across several where other Black patrons have had similar racially motivated experiences here. That tells me there's a common practice of racism here. I refuse to support a business where this kind of behavior is tolerated. I have zero tolerance for bigots of any kind. Overall, the experience was a waste of my time and very dehumanizing. To hate someone you don't even know simply because of their skin pigmentation and ethnicity is irrational at best and bad for business especially in a place like Oakland where it's multicultural. My advice would be to not support this establishment. I especially advise any Black patrons not to come here as they clearly have issue with anyone who is simply Black, despite not knowing them as a person. Don't give your money, nor your valuable time, to hateful individuals who dehumanize others. All in all, this place gets a thumbs down.

I ordered the sando and fries combo and enjoyed them at the picnic tables nearby. 5/5 Chicken sandwich I'm no fried chicken connoisseur, but I really enjoyed this sandwich. My mild fried chicken sandwich was crispy and savory with a hint of sweetness. The coleslaw was a creamy tangy addition that paired well with the sandwich. It's nice they offer various spicy levels; the mild is flavorful without burning off your taste buds. 4/5 Fries were nicely spiced with cajun-esque flavors. Not spicy at all. They included a mysterious (aioli?) sauce that went well with the fries. Fries were crispy though without the pillowy insides I crave. The portion was huge, quite shareable. I also tried a few bites of the thick gravy seafood etouffee. Other folks in my party were impressed with the flavor and generally liked it, but I didn't care too much for it. You might enjoy it if you, too, enjoy curry-type food. I don't often eat fried or hot chicken, but I consider this to be one of the better spots locally.

We ordered a chicken sando, the chicken and waffles, and a couple sides -- the greens and etouffee. The sandwich was the clear highlight: moist chicken thigh with a breaded crunch, covered by a thin layer of mayo coleslaw. The light, sweet crunch of the cabbage and carrots gave balance to the dark meat. The waffles were crispy but just soft enough you could wrap them around the chicken to make a sweet sandwich out of that dish too. The server was very friendly when we came. I expressed curiosity about the different heat levels, and he shared nuggets batter d in the medium and hot sauces. He shared our excitement at trying the hot stuff! For the record, the medium is hotter than your typical spicy chicken sandwich and probably a safe go-to. The hot level just cracks "painful" but not unmanageably so -- might be fun as a treat. TBH I was pleasantly surprised by how much flavor each sauce packed -- and how different they were. The medium is especially sweet. Go for the sando. Crank up the heat. It doesn't miss.
