This brightly painted restaurant on the hill above the Blue Ridge Mall has an extensive menu including breakfast choices as lunch options. I keep coming back and trying something new each visit. I met my little brother and his wife and children here at their behest. Parking was easy. Ambience was very calm. I was expecting more of a party atmosphere. The decor is awesome!! Really well thought out. The chairs were not very comfortable. Prices were a little high - but it's expected. Prices are high. As I have not been here before I asked the server what she would recommend. Not something she should have trouble with. She could not answer me. I repeated it in Spanish thinking maybe she would understand better. She didn't. Which threw me. I asked and pointed at the menu - blank stare. I ordered a combo thing - tamale, burrito, Relleno. It was...okay. JUST okay. We ate and waited for her to refill waters - never happened. She never returned to the table except to drop the check. As someone who has been in the restaurant business for OVER 40 years - started as a dishwasher and ended as an Executive Chef - this was troubling. Especially when the expectation of a tip is in play. A Top is showing you were grateful for the service. At this point she should've paid me. Anyway - I blame improper training. Management gets the blame for this because they hired her. THEY trained her. THEY put her on the floor to serve customers. I won't be going back but I'm hoping management takes notice and steps up their game. This is an amazing place. But the employees have to be a part of "selling" every aspect of it. Every review you've read is true. I went with a group of 4 and tried the beans and salsa, salsa very good beans tasted burnt and awful. next the sauces all were awful. So I talked my parents into going to this place because I love their tamales! When we walked in, there was a sign that said there was a nine dollar mango margarita special. My dad ordered that and then the waitress asked if he wanted it medium or large. He did say he wanted it large because who doesn't? However, at the end of the night we were charged $14 for a margarita +3 dollars for mango. My mother does not put up with shit like this and tried to explain that it was just a miscommunication between the waitress, not knowing that the mango margarita was a special. The manager was very rude when my mother tried to fix this, and the waitress literally said to us when we told her that this was not what he ordered ( he originally got a large lime margarita) and she said aloud , 'fuck, I'm going to have to pay for this'...I hope she didn't, because my folks already did! But unexpected to hear from her. She was also fairly surly after that and never came back to our table so we could check out. That's when we tried to speak to the manager and he was unapologetic and kind of a DOUCHEBAG! I think he took $3 off off the $16 margarita that was supposed to have been $9 according to the specials list when you walk in.Fuck this joint! We ordered from this place because all the other reputable Mexican taco places in the area only take cash. Cash! People who want to grow their business need to learn to accept card payments. Unfortunately, the food from this place is a NO for us going forward. I ordered 2 taquito platters and 4 hard shell tacos a la carte for my husband. WTH!?!? We came here on a slow day and were one of three groups there so I cannot speak for the service when they're busy. The service we got was excellent. The decor looks very unique and is done pretty good. I liked it all. There was a great atmosphere there. The food was really good. Good for the price. Also the drinks were great. The family and I along with my service dog Shalom, are headed to the outlet mall in Ashville and decided to stop at Tequilas bar and Grill in Hendersonville. When we went in the hostess went to get the manager as soon as she saw my service dog. A lady came back with her and asked if I had his paperwork showing his certification. I showed her his ID card and she said that would work but we would have to eat outside. I advised her that that is not what the ADA law stated. She would not budge so we left. As we did I noticed the two notifications on their door. I told them that it was not accurate and she said that she would let the owner know. Unfortunately it also overlooks NC Highway 64 and a shopping center, but if you can train your eyes, you can thoroughly enjoy the view of the Blue Ridge! The food is typical Mexican fare and good. The table salsa and bean dip were excellent and not too spicy! For entrees we had camarones con arroz, tacos tequila which had fresh Mexican white cheese and came with a super spicy dip salsa on the side, chicken tortilla soup which was practically the whole pot (delicious with fresh cut avocado), taco grande which was a large, open faced taco with chicken- tricolor peppers, pico de Gallo, guacamole, onions and nacho cheese and FINALLY a special burrito. Ordered takeaway by telephone during the coronavirus quarantine, then drove 25 minutes into town to pick it up. Two stars because what's-her-name was satisfied with her steak burrito. My meal deserved just one star, or less. My main dish was two chili poblanos. One pepper was as tough as leather and the cheese inside a solid block like it was originally frozen and now not quite thawed. Poblano chiles are supposed to be mild. My second chile, while tender, proved to be hot (spicy) beyond eating. I squeezed the melted cheese out and ate that. The refried beans and rice were good enough and comprised my meal. I would have sent it all back to the kitchen if we had been dining in. The parking lot was empty at the time (4:30 PM,) so they had plenty of time to do it well while we drove to town. read more
