The service was good and the staff were polite during ordering. The taste of the food is not as I remember it growing up in Eastern NC. In my youth Mayflower was our only seafood option and the flavors were perfected back then. I hadn't had Mayflower in over a decade. So much has changed! The taste was flat and seafood needs at a minimum some light seasoning to bring out the flavor. The okra, cole slaw and corn bread were good. That is all. I do not recommend Mayflower for seafood. My second time here on 8/22/26, first time was good, no complaints but this second time I had the white fish which I didn't like the breading, more breading and not enough fish. Popcorn shrimp were good but the onion rings and hush puppies looked like they had been sitting in the oil for too long so couldn't eat them. Asked for something else so got the mac 'n cheese which was okay. Didn't like that you can't choose flounder on the Saturday menu unless I did the combo menu items which cost more. So, so much food...I could have sworn I took a picture of the actual fish plate but believe you me I had to get another plate to a put some of the food. I had the trout and the shrimp. Only problem I had was that the fish could have been seasoned a little more but it was still good. Everyone was so nice, store nice and clean. The cheesecake was on a different level. Absolutely Disgusting Experience -- Do Not Recommend I ordered from Mayflower Seafood through DoorDash, and the entire meal was a complete letdown. The fish had no seasoning at all, and the scallops were definitely fake -- the texture made that obvious right away. But the worst part was the stuffed crab. When I put my fork in, I pulled out pieces of a brown paper bag that had been stuffed inside. Finding paper inside my food was beyond disgusting and instantly ruined the meal. Whether it happened during prep or packaging, it should never occur under any circumstances. The experience was careless, unsanitary, and completely inexcusable. Visited this place for the first time during a conference and it's a good place to eat. The portions are plentiful and enough to share. The servers are extremely friendly and the price to portion ratio is pocket friendly. I had the senior calabash platter of grouper, coleslaw, hush puppies and chose fries as my side. The hostess looked at me as if I was in the wrong place, rolled her eyes and said "we close at 9, but I'll seat ya" . She was folding napkins and had a very unfriendly look on her face. The waiter came to the table and asked for our order. we gave our order and the waiter came back with condiments for hush puppies and fish along with our drinks. No communication whatsoever, he just sat the plates on the table loudly and walked away. my husband asked me if I was ok and I told him this service seems a little off. The restaurant itself is very old and outdated in decor. Think old vinyl seats with cracks in them. Weird and creepy aquarium looking things with nothing in them except ceramic fish. The server we had was very unimpressive. We said "thank you" for everything that was given to us and he never said "you're welcome". The food itself was one of the worst if not the worst seafood meals we've ever had. Scallops, white fish, and shrimp, all broiled. Zero flavor in any of it. All you taste is a hint of Old Bay (maybe). No melted butter, no nothing. It was absolutely flavorless. The mac & cheese was orange but had a cheese flavor. It was strange. The hush puppies were good. The appetizers, the calamari and the so-called Parmesan shrimp and crab dip were absolutely terrible. The only good thing was the breading on the calamari. It was not the kind of calamari you get other restaurants-it was those hard rubber, fake calamari rings. And the dip came with soft pita bread. It was very weird. The dip had no seafood flavor and no taste, let alone any crab. Maybe three pieces of Baby shrimp in it. We've had their fried seafood a couple times over the years and it was OK, but this broiled so-called platter was horrendous. I doubt we will ever try this place again. We did see several seniors in there, having the $9.99 platters. I'm sure it's a good deal and like I said, the fried food is probably a little better. We ate there last night. The food came quickly and our waitress was very nice. Our food however was not quite what we expected. My partners popcorn shrimp were not deveined. About half of the huge mound on his plate had the digestive veins still in. I had a combo plate and didn't have any real problems when we were there. I had found a few shell pieces in my deviled crab, and it happens. I took the remainder home and when I tried to eat it today, I found that skin was still on the flounder filet and I didn't notice it because of the fried battering. It tasted horrible. My partner and I both fish and both know how to clean catches properly, including flounder. We always filet our flounder and remove the skin. Sorry, we won't be back. read more

Mayflower serves up tastier seafood than many 5-star restaurants I've dined in, and at a far more affordable price! I get takeout more often than I dine in , but all my eat-in experiences have been extremely pleasant, and with nothing to complain about - service was friendly and fast. The food......wonderful! They have a very large menu, with a variety of ocean dwellers to please any palate! I prefer the combination plates, which allow you to select any two (or, for a bit more in cost, three) fish or seafood options. Catfish, oysters, fried jumbo shrimp, popcorn shrimp, oysters, deviled crabs, clam strips and scallops are only a few of the choices you can feast on! You also get hush puppies, fried or baked potatoes and cole slaw on the side. I can highly recommend all of the above! The fried catfish is always flaky and tender, and the fried oysters are a favorite of mine. Mayflower does not stint on portions, either! You will get a very large serving, and I always have enough to snack on later or eat for lunch the next day. Definitely a good value for the money! Take-away service is fast (generally about ten minutes) and they check each order as they give it to you so there are no goofs. The atmosphere may not look like much, but don't be fooled. Her fried okra side impressed her as she thought it was freshly made, and not of the frozen variety. My sides of broccoli and baked potato were fine. Fried oysters with onion rings were a hit to another. Mom was not happy with her broiled whiting, saying it was dry and overcooked. Side salads served with some were large. Apparently the only dressing made in house is ranch. All of us loved their hushpuppies, which are rings studded with sweet onion. Yum. Dislikes: the cocktail sauce is just ketchup with relish. No horseradish in sight. Coleslaw is ground to a pulp. Women's restroom was unpleasant. Very. This is not the kind of place you would come for a romantic date, but for a family meal where everyone can get what they want. Haven't been here in years. Got seated immediately, friendly service. I got the choose two combo of baby flounder, jumbo shrimp, with baked sweet potato. It comes with cole slaw and hushpuppies. I'm going to break this down: 1. Baby flounder: looked great, tasted pretty good . Big portion of three. First one was great, but the second had a lot of bones and weirdly seemed a bit over cooked being kinda dry inside. 2. Jumbo shrimp: perfectly breaded and fried. Each one was great. 3. Baked sweet potato: tasted good, was warm but not hot enough to melt butter. Seemed like maybe it was cooked yesterday as the edges didn't pull right. Maybe I got a random dud. 4. Coleslaw is one of those foods that really depend on your personal preference. There was nothing wrong with it but just not my favorite flavor and texture. Very finely chopped and almost the consistency of grits. I strangely hold KFC coleslaw as the gold standard for me. 5. Hushpuppies: donut shaped, but good because they aren't crammed full of onions. Why do people want to put onions in everything...but I digress; the hushpuppies were respectable. Overall fairly good for a casual seafood restaurant. When you walk into the entrance the restrooms are right there. I could smell them before I saw them. Just a bit of a turnoff, but maybe we just walked in at the right time...let's hope so; otherwise the poor hostess! Our last time (this week) and our last time ever. The $17 fried shrimp plate went up to about $25. Has COVID-19 made every businessman loose their mind? Everywhere all the time but this is crazy. No more shrimp, still the world's smallest coleslaw, and the same slow service. I would think it was slow because the kitchen staff is working hard, but idk. This batch had lots and lots of those waste veins that were solid black. I also got some shrimp that were fried with the shell on (they were really crunchy but after a few I had to see why. (I was imagining the worst, I am no fan of creepy crawlies) but it was just the shell. If I want to spend $25 on a half pound of shrimp that is unpeeled and NOT deveined I could just eat my own horrible cooking. So maybe this isn't as much about the food as it is about the money? I'm not sure. We can't eat out a lot and this was our last go-to place (Red Robin, Olive Garden are out of our range too). I wonder if it's possible anymore to eat out well for less? read more

Went to have a family night out with the husband and son, my husband ordered the 3 fish combo with fries, hush puppies, coleslaw, and a drink. All of his food was super greasy and tasted like it was cooked in old grease. Me and my son was going to share a plate, we ordered popcorn shrimp, chicken tenders, with fries, coleslaw, hush puppies, and a drink each. Our food also tasted like old greasy food and everything tasted the same. Also the coleslaw was so nasty I almost threw up. The drinks were nasty and had no carbonation whatsoever. The sweet tea tasted like it was also old and sour like it has been sitting for years. Not to mention I never been to a Mayflower where they don't bring out hush puppies before you order. They bring out all this butter and sour cream to the table like what am I using that on if we don't get hush puppies before we order? I think the only thing that was good at this location was the straw because at least I know it was clean, not greasy, and unused. Mayflower is one of my go seafood spots on the North East side of Raleigh, NC. I had the fried fish and popcorn shrimp basket with fries, hushpuppies, Cole slaw, Texas Pete, butter, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Man oh man, it was bomb.com to say the least. The portion sizes are bountiful and abundant. I would highly recommend a take out order for any saturday afternoon outing. The order was prepared hot and fresh within about 15 minutes. Order 3 shrimp plates around 8:35pm. When the young gentleman came out to show my food, I immediately told him that my fries were soggy and unacceptable. He then told me that they had shut down fryers and he would give me a discount. I asked about discount he stated 10%. I told him a side was $3.29 and it was better to go else where. Cashier then went own to give the discount as a side although I let him know I did not see discount. Then I got home to eat what I could and realized I have an entire box full of soggy fries with a little bit of shrimp on top of some ruined hush puppies due to fries being soggy. This was unacceptable and I felt like they took my money and did not deliver me food as I ordered. and yea good was checked but there was no way to check fully and know that I was receiving a box of soggy sweet potato fries without digging through food. Took my mom here because she loves it. I ordered the broiled sea scallops. First plate they brought me was fried. Second plate were the smaller bay scallops coated in some kind of spice mix - yuck! Manager came out to apologize and clarified the order again. Brought out bay scallops again, then argued that the smaller scallops were sea scallops and the larger were bay. I didn't argue back, paid my tab and tipped my very kind waitress. However, I don't know how you work your way up to kitchen manager at a seafood restaurant not knowing what kind of scallop you are charging customers for. I ate there again today and had some flavorless broiled fish, and my buddy had some fried fish that was terribly over-cooked. The wait staff was great! The food simply wasn't. There's no fresh fish on the menu. A couple times the fried seafood tasted spoiled. The only thing I enjoyed today was the baked potato. And their prices have gotten so high for fried frozen fish and French fries! Two plates of mediocre food and a glass of sweet tea was $60 with a tip!
