What can I say about Maynard's? The only vegan friendly thing on the menu is the fries. Their salads all have meat in them, & beyond that, not much more than weak iceberg lettuce. I didn't ask if the fries were fried in the same oil as chicken tenders, so I'm going to just keep hoping for the best. We somehow (read: beer!) ended up there twice this weekend, and both waitresses' reactions to my asking for a personalized flatbread were pretty much a hell no, though they both, "somehow," got it done anyway (the 2nd one more grudgingly than the first, though to be fair, I wasn't super friendly in the way I said, "but they did it for me just 2 days ago!"). Whatever. I wasn't there for the food anyway. Beer was good both nights. Live music was great both nights. But c'mon now, it's 2013, try to at least pretend to care about your vegan & food allergic customers. read more

Went for breakfast with my husband and dog! Again, HUGE PLUS - dog friendly! We had the crab eggs benedict and it was delicious. Service was awesome and another plus they have a Bloody Mary Bar! Went to Maynard's the night before Christmas Eve for their ugly sweater party. Drinks and food was good and the place was very packed. I only had 2-3 beers because I was driving, so when I finished my last beer I asked the bartender for water and she said no. I moved to the back bar and asked that bartender for water and she always said she couldn't give me water. I went back inside to the other bartender and was ignored after asking multiple times for water. Although water is usually free, I still tip regardless. I finally had to get a bouncer to go to the bar, reach over it and fill a glass up with water for me. I find it absolutely ridiculous that a bar full of people drinking alcohol refused to give someone water. read more

Racist policies and will not ever be coming back. Have been many times before, drinks are weak, bathroom is vile but that's what you expect with a beach dive bar and that doesn't really bother me. However last night my boyfriend who is originally from Colombia and has a valid Colombian ID was turned away and not allowed to enter. He has lived in the US for over two years and has never had an issue with his ID at any other bar. Furthermore other members of our party had gotten in with no issue using expired driver license. This is obviously a racist establishment that refused service to someone with a valid form of ID purely because he was Hispanic. I will not be coming back and one who doesn't want to give their money to bars with racist policies should not go back either. read more

Dive bar right on the water. Food is standard bar food and fried for the most part. Prices are cheap which is great. This place gets pretty lively and has live music most days starting at 6. However, until then it's silent if someone isn't dumping a dollar into the jukebox for 2 songs (1 song for newer music and music you search for). read more

The first time I walked in here I knew it was the place for me. I was immediately welcomed by the amazing and very good looking staff. I've heard it was called the Disney land of bars but didn't believe it till I experienced it. I met two people specifically that made my night unforgettable...Steph and Evan. Steph was fast and great with drinks accompanied by her sidekick Evan right by her side. I wish I could come here every night. I pretty much do but I wish I could reverse time and spend all the time I haven't spent here, here. When time travel inevitably becomes real, it will definitely be my first move. read more

This bar is hard for most to comprehend and if you read the reviews you will see that. In the winter its a quiet chill place where locals play pool inside and eat great bar food. In the summer the outside bar and pavilion area starts as a quiet spot for amazing breakfast and a bloody mary in the sun. It then transforms into a packed dinner area for some amazing seafood dishes, and upscale barfood. The late dinner crowd turns into a happy hour with the bars filling up and live music from cover bands. The final transformation take place around 10 pm on weekends and weds night, where the tables are removed and a local dj plays. The crowd swells and around midnight the place is packed with an even mix of 21 year old drunks, 25 year olds wasting away the paychecks from their first real job, 30 year olds who complain about the "youngins" but don't let it ruin there night, and even groups of 40-50 year olds reliving their younger days. But everyone of them is having a great night So the place is tough to peg down, and most of the negative response are from people who don't completely get what Maynards is. People who stop in for a fancy dinner maybe shocked by small, less then sparkling bathrooms. They should go next-door and enjoy tomatoes. And dont even get me started on peoples complaints about the lack of vegan food #gtfoh. People who complain about the bouncers being mean or angry usually are mad bc they took their fake ID. Bouncers, by nature, aren't nice. They are big, scary and mean and get yelled and swung at on a nightly basis. The lines can wrap around the block on busy weekends nights. If you don't want to wait, show up around 10, not 12. The one thing i will say about this place that needs to be said. The bartenders are amazing. When its slow they will laugh and joke with customers but when its slammed with people elbow to elbow as far as the eye can see, they are amazing. They pump out drinks faster then any group I've ever seen. I wouldn't be surprised if they pump out 20000 drinks a night on a packed weekend, and thats not an embellishment. They move nonstop all night, pouring drinks to serve everyone as fast a possible. So as someone who's been there a few times over the past couple years, heres my take... It is what it is. Don't like drunk kids, don't go past 10 pm. Expecting a gordon ramsey meal, where you can't pronounce the ingredients in the meal, this is not for u. Love the Dog-Friendliness of this place! We had been here the summer before with our pup who thinks he is a people and he loves sitting at the bar, but now they have dog bowl lunches on the menu! For $6 your best friend can get chicken beef or scrambled eggs with rice or veggies! We ordered a chicken and rice bowl this past Saturday afternoon. We were informed that they didn't have the rice, but my pup was ok with just chicken. Our whole group enjoyed the outside local bar atmosphere. I would have given 5 stars if not for the people food. I tried to order the fish and chips platter but was informed that they didn't have it. No rice and now no fish and chips? Hmmmm. On a Saturday afternoon in the summer? Ok.... so I decided to just order the fried shrimp appetizer. When it arrives it looks great. 8 huge fried shrimp with lemon wedges and cocktail sauce. But with the first bite it was obvious that these were not technically "fried shrimp". They were clearly shrimp that had been prepared for shrimp cocktail (steamed deveined and chilled) that they had them breaded and fried. Very odd. read more

I grew up in Margate and have good memories of Maynard's when I cam back from college it was a great place to meet up. In the summer it was a good bar to hit while making the crawl on that side of town. It is what Margate used to be and is now surrounded by a few places that are trying waay to hard, an ice cream place of all things and a style of bar that city hall has deemed more desirable... but still she stands and is a good place to go, reminisce about how the other bars used to be just like her and make sure that you get some experiences in while she's here. "The Good" - The staff is good, everyone has their favorite bartender or waitress but all in all they are good people and will take care of you if you are not "that customer". - The crowd varies from Shoobies, to the people that have been fishing all day to the folks coming in off the beach. All in all they vary their visits with the time of day and populate the seats just as good as any other group... - The food is decent. It varies with the chef. When I was in school they had great wings, now they have good wings... soon they may have better ones. Try out the menu and get some pub grub. There are no real specials that stand out here but its decent. - Mentioned here because I do not want to tab down to the "Meh" section... The Burgers are hit or miss. Sometimes they are masterful works of art other times they eat like a frozen waste of my time. Talk with the wait staff, ask for their opinion. After a few visits they will know what you like and be able to help you out with the food. "The Meh" - Limited parking in the summer, but what else is new... this is just so you know. - Lots of televisions, however you still have to sit sideways to see them... leatn to adapt or do not watch ;) "The Bad" - Cash only.... come on people. - Everyone has something bad to say about something.... We had a great time besides one factor. I hit my vape ONE time without realizing it wasn't allowed and one of the bouncers nearly pushed me to the ground to get out. One warning and I would've understood to go outside. But I'm a 110lb woman. What's the use in nearly pushing me to the ground. It was overly aggressive. A mere warning would have sufficed. This place is you quintessential Margate dive bar. It doesn't get much more South Jersey than this. They have two pooltables and have a few tvs showing local sports. This is a great place to get cheesesteaks. I'm serious, they are really good here. I've driven here just to get a cheesesteak. In the summertime they open the Starlight Garden outside. They also have a striper tournament every year. I never took part in that though. read more

This bar is actually terrible. drinks may be cheap as long as u don't mind waiting for 30 minutes looking for a bartender but I was personally subjected to some sort of discrimination by a bouncer while waiting for a friend in the men's room (which is disgusting and should be shut down by the health department btw). I hadn't had more than one drink and this man started screaming at me for disrupting as I sat there silent out of the way of anyone walking. I live locally, so usually the summer time just brings more traffic and annoyances that go with out-of-towners. But the one plus is being able to meet new people, and this is the place to do it. Awesome spot for a local hang out, all year round. The sauce they use for their wings is good enough to bottle up and sell. If you're not interested in the AC club scene, then this is the perfect place for you. Chill atmosphere, good people, decent location and good drinks = a win for this place. read more

Pretty generic bar with some TVs with sports and a couple pool tables. Crowd on my Saturday evening visit around 8 was mostly 20-somethings but all ages were here. typically nasty restrooms for a bar.. the TVs are in odd locations so when you are sitting at bar you have to lean to the side to watch the game.. seems like the sort of bar one would encounter countless examples of near any major college campus, OK but nothing distinctive about it.. 1 star! Hard to accomplish but Maynard's brunch achieved that distinction. Coffee was served in paper cups and when asked if we wanted more coffee, the waitress neglected to tell us that we'd be charged for a new paper cup with coffee in it. NO FREE REFILLS. Ordered an omelette with onions in it and the onions were completely raw. The English muffin that came on the side was not even toasted. Yuck, like eating raw dough. Then, we were erroneously charged an extra dollar because they thought we ordered eggs over easy. Apparently there's a real art to turning eggs over because there's a $0.50 charge per egg just to turn it over. Major rip-off. read more

Gave it two stars because they are dog friendly that is great looked up menu online it said 8 dollars and coffee included for omelets thought that sounded good. However the menu at place was 8.50 with no coffee. I hate false advertising. We ordered coffee with meals and asked for refill. Guess what refills not included and waitress didn't tell us so coffee bill alone was 12 dollars! Also added an extra dollar onto my breakfast sandwich for no reason. I mentioned to waitress and she said was Computer error. very shady! Food also took forever and I was only eggs!! never again read more
