This is a wonderful & clean salon located in Kendall Park (note: the address on Yelp is its old address). I asked May, the owner, if she could cut so that it's a bit layered in the front but still have reasonably long enough hair to tie up for the summer. She's very proficient & easy to chat with! She made a suggestion on what to do with the front as she knew we couldn't achieve a fully layered look by the length of my hair. She knew exactly how to cut it, and it came out as I wanted. Loved the new look! She even gave a bunch of useful tips on blow drying & how to keep hair looking healthy. Will definitely be back! read more

My son has Type 4 hair and went for haircut at this place. Vicky provided the service, if it can be called that, and completely botched it up. If you botch up a job, the least you can do is accept the customer's feedback and do the needful to fix it. Of course, this lady was too naive and / or in-experienced to do either. She "did us a favor of fixing it ", in her own words, after making my son suffer derisive treatment, at their hands (laughter, comments in their native language). Goes without saying that it was our first and last dealing with them and hope they learn how to be in service business. Attaching the photo where I hope most of you can see the issue. I had three visits here in preparation for prom. Let me sum it up... Visit #1: Two friends and I decided to get our hair done here for prom since one of my friends swear by May's hairstyling. Friend #2 wanted a hair and makeup trial here however and I accompanied her. We walked in and there were only three workers. They told us they were too busy and to come back another time. We scheduled for the beginning of next week. Visit #2: Arrived on time for the trial. I watched my friend get her trial and observed the following things... -The staff including May spoke limited English -They rely on pictures for further explanation -Their full staff is actually only three people -Appointments are highly necessary -May's son is usually there and he is very nosy since he sits at the front playing video games. To me, it destroys the relaxing ambiance that should be present at a salon. -Prices aren't fixed and vary Also, customer service for trials is terrible. May was rushing us out since she had another regular customer even though she promised to also do the makeup trial that day since prom was only a few days away. After my friend argued with her a little bit, she pulled out a few eyeshadow shades and quickly applied them all over my friend's lid and said "Good?? Bad?" We could tell she was eager to finish our trial so we just decided to leave. She charged her $35 for the hair and makeup trial even though she barely did the makeup and for the hair, she only braided my friends hair and advised her to get it cut in order to obtain the style she wanted. My friend went back the next day and got her haircut from May even though in the end, May didn't give her that hairstyle. Visit #3: This was the day of prom. We made an appointment to come in at 10 AM for the three of us since my other two friends were coming in at 12 PM. (This ended up being a good estimation since we got done at 12 PM exactly) May was taking care of friend #1 while the other lady that works there was taking care of me. She curled my hair with what seems like the only curling iron size they possess (3/4 inch) and sprayed my hair before and after curling. (May later scolded her for this since May decided to re-curl my hair and this made it difficult) I really hated how she was curled my hair in the same direction even though I wanted it to vary. She also dropped the curling iron a few times and tugged on my hair. After May was done with friend #1, she proceeded to style my hair. She listened to my needs accordingly and looked carefully at the pictures I provided her. Although she was rushed last time, she seemed much more attentive and caring today. She carefully crafted each part of my hair and secured it with many bobby pins and hairspray. She touched up my bangs and made everything even. I'm glad she was also able to add the volume that I wanted to the crown of my hair. The whole process took about 40 minutes for each of us. Although the style May did for my half up/half down do wasn't bad, I noticed it was pretty generic and she did almost the exact same for my friend. It seems that this is her "specialty" in hair styling. Her price chart says that an evening hair design is $55+, but she only charged us each $45. In the end, I was pleased with my hairstyle but I won't be returning. The customer service and staff needs to improve their work... especially for trials. read more

May's Hair Salon is the best hair salon I went to the staff there is extremely nice and sometimes the business owner would give us manicures and free hair bands. A few times she even gave us a discount because we would go to her store for years. One time I got my hair cut there and I felt so pretty I never thought that way because I always thought I would look bad in short hair but turns out I didn't. My hair was soft and lightweight after that and people would compliment me and ask how I did that. With the help of May and her recommendation of hair products was the answer. Some of my teachers go there to get their hair done. Her staff are very nice to and they will ask what you want to do with your hair and they will say if it fits you or not depending on your face shape. They give you a lot of compliments and advice on your hair. They also provide relaxation by massages and manicures. They even let you donate your hair for people who are battling cancer which I have done once and plan to do again. I also want to, in the future, go there to get ready for big events. May is a very skilled and talented hair attender. Even though her English is limited she is still very nice. Tip #1 you should always book a appointment because sometimes the business there is over the top thriving which is very busy. Overall the service here is amazing, the quality of the after work is wonderful and the staff and owner are very caring. read more

I had a terrible experience at this salon. They had terrible service and left my lips and my daughter's lips on fire when we left. Later, I saw my daughter's skin was lifted off and there was a burn. The store owner showed no sympathy and lied on the phone about not being in the salon when I first called. She even tried to convince me it was an allergic reaction. I am appalled at this service and never plan on going back. read more

Great Hair Salon! Like many people, I have visited many -and I mean many- hair salons looking for the right one (the right location, stylist, price). I happen to drop in May's Beauty Salon one Sunday afternoon (it was an emergency:), because everyone one else booked. At first I was a bit skeptical, since it was a small shop and I'm used to going to higher-end places (mostly in Princeton, PA, NY). But what a wonderful supervise to find May was an exceptional stylist. I find her to be creative and innovate when it comes to hair styles and cuts, as well as hair color. I receive tons of compliments and people cannot believe where I'm going. I finally found the right salon, the right stylist and for the right price (down by 1/2+ the price of what I am used to paying:). read more

I have to say that May gave me one of the best hair cuts in recent memory. While I don't particularly prescribe to the "look great, feel great" philosophy (seems a little shallow), I admit that I felt pretty darn good after I saw the results. Ask my wife, she took a bunch of pictures so that if I ever go anywhere else, I have a great reference to show. I'm quite sure I've found a new place for hair cuts. One of the worst salon in NJ: Bad service & Overpriced. I should never have pick a salon because of convenience, since this place is only a few minutes from my house. You would think they would treat a first time customer with good service, unfortunately, I got the complete opposite. I never had a women's hair cut, wash & blow dry done in around 30 minutes time. They basically just use a hair thinning shear/scissor to cut it, no skills at all. When I walk out of the salon, the inside of my hair is still wet. This is one of the worst experience ever. I've been looking for my go-to hair cut spot and I've found it. The times I have been here, I haven't had to wait any longer than ten minutes. The workers are friendly and most of all they give the best cuts. I've had May as well as a guy who works there cut my hair, and they both do a very clean job and actually listen to what I want done. I wish I could give this a negative rating. I am absolutely disappointed with this service. I went to get my upper lip waxed due to its proximity. After I got it waxed, it was burning, but I didn't think much of it until I checked the mirror a couple of hours later. I literally saw a layer of skin gone from my upper lip. Half of my upper lip now has a burn and it hurts to move my lip. On top of that, this was way too overpriced. I got charged $5 when usually I pay $3. They even asked for a tip and when asked if it was mandatory they avoided the question. I paid $6 to get my upper lip burnt. When I called the salon regarding this they first lied to me telling me the owner wasn't here. When I told her my issue, the owner magically appeared. When asking for a refund, the lady again kept avoiding the actual issue and eventually started giving me some skin help and told me to apply vaseline. I didn't need her to be my dermatologist too. I ended with a half burnt upper lip and $6 gone from my pocket. This service was absolutely terrible. Needless to say, I will never be back. Save yourself the time, money and skin damage and never go here for waxing. read more

the first i came to this place was about 4 years ago for a haircut i desperately needed, and since then i've been coming back to this place at least 6 times a years. i got along quite well with the guy barber and he knows what kind of haircuts i need. the owner and the staffs are pretty friendly, and since i can speak chinese we usually have some friendly conversations every time i go. overall a pretty good barbershop, and the price is not over the top. i usually just go without making appointments since i know the barber, but i highly recommend making an appointment before going since the place is always packed. read more
