Family said they would actually give it a four and a half stars. We happened upon this place when the restaurant we were planning on going to was closed for the evening. This turned out to be a great turn of events. The food and service we're both spectacular! The seasoning on everything was spot on and we tried several appetizers so we could get a variety. The only things that took away a star (or half star as you may) were the side salad and rice. The salad was your typical iceberg with cucumber and tomato undressed which next to everything else was a disappointment and the complaint on the rice was there was too much in proportion to the meat. read more

I wish I could give this places better overall review, but since first visiting in February, the food has, predictably, gone down in quality and consistency. Nevertheless, it's still above average for the area's offerings. However, it is because the quality and timing of their service has consistently been poor that I give Mazadar this low of a rating. On my first visit, my mother's order was forgotten about, and arrived after most every one else had finished. On other occasions, we would wait for an inordinate amount of time for a couple of wraps and an order of fries. One time, the wraps took 15 minutes, but the fries somehow took 20 minutes, and came to the table so hot they needed a cool-down period. Another time, after ordering and waiting for 20 minutes in an empty dining room, we were told our order had been put behind a larger catering order, but since it was two wraps, they "guessed they could fit it in". We waited another 10 minutes or so for our food to arrive. For our final visit, we tried to forestall the wait by calling ahead for takeout, knowing that we were in a rush to make an appointment. We were told the wraps we ordered would be ready in 10 minutes. When we arrived and paid for them 15 minutes later, we were told that they would be right out. 10 minutes later, we were still sitting in the dining room. We asked again for our food, and were again told that they were just a couple of minutes away. Thirty minutes after we ordered the food, we asked for a refund. The cashier was apologetic and gave us our money back, but this will be our last visit. read more

Yelp did it again!! Fairly well cooked food; definitely a quiet environment and freshly prepared. Recommend the Lamp Kabobs; the rice and lamb had so much natural seasoning and flavor that I took the rest of my meal home. I needed to come back and update my review; after one delicious, wonderful visit and one frustratingly not good visit, I'm happy to report that the bad visit was just an off-night and we have been back to Mazadar three times since, finding the spot-on, delicious food we did on our first visit. I usually alternate between the beef kofta platter or the beef kofta salad, depending on how carby I'm feeling on any given day. The meat is always so incredibly flavorful and I like adding the carrot and raisin topping to my rice. The entrees are quite large; there's definitely enough rice for two people! My partner picked up firnee on a whim, which is a wonderful rosewater and cardamom pudding. It has been an addition to every order we've made since then. I'm so glad that Mazadar is in my neighborhood and it's definitely worth a visit. read more

I understand that this is a new restaurant, but we waited 30 minutes between the time we ordered and paid for food to receiving our meal. We each ordered one main dish, so nothing extravagant. When we asked what was taking so long, we were told that "there were a lot of customers"...the restaurant was at less than half capacity. They do not offer sharma dishes, just kebabs. Great place, I think in a lot of ways a little better than Zaitoon kitchen. A lot of seating, hummus is excellent as well as the naan, and my rice and chicken was less dry then Zaitoon. My wife likes the falafel better at Zaitoon though. Overall, excellent meal and great service. read more

Delicious food. I got the chicken kabob wrap! very filling. Very flavorful!!! it's so flavourful that you can see the color of the spces in the ground chicken. My friend got the platter with vegetables...she loved it!! food was fresh. Staff was friendly and accomodating. Do not get me started on the 3 sauces!!!! one is mayo based(but you dont taste the eggy mayo like American brands). It's a tasty white sauce. The green sauce is like a cilantro based sauce.The third one is their hot sauce. Let me tell you something about their hot sauce...NOW THAT IS HOT SAUCE!!! I am sick and tired of many American brands like "Franks red hot" advertising that they are hot sauce. It tastes like salt and water!!! thats not hot sauce. Maybe its hot for people with bland taste buds..but it's not hot sauce by a long shot. Anywho, Mazadar's sauces are a hit! I was using each one interchangeably. Delicious well done clean meat, in a nice setting. I loved the place. Very clean and spacious. They have like 2 tvs on the side, one on th news and the other had on music. The windows were very middle eastern inspired,like a dome shaped. So lovely. They have high chairs and booths. Napkin dispensers at each table. Clean table. Overall a great experience. Our family is having a mini reunion in Albany. We were VERY pleased with the warm and friendly reception of the host "Zain""! He being Mediterranean himself made the whole experience more authentic. He is very knowledgeable about the menu and extremely kind and patient. We started off with several appetizers, all very fresh and tasty. We are already familiar with Afghan cuisine so we stuck to the more traditional dishes, Montu, bolani, spinach, pumpkin, chick peas, eggplant, each plate better than the other. The sauces/condiments that are served with the appetizer and entrees are homemade and the perfect melody of spice, variety and feeling that you are eating like you would in an Afghan's home! There are a cilantro sauce , a yogurt herbed dip and a spicy flavorful red chili sauce. The homemade hot tea and yogurt drink were very refreshing, tea being free refills! The lamb kabob was scrumptious with hot naan, authentic rice. We were SO full that we did not even order desserts but were generously gifted baklava which we really appreciated! We felt like we had been transported to an exotic, fascinating place. Interesting to see that a number of customers from south Central Asia, namely Afghanistan, validating the authenticity of the cuisine! read more

Wow! What a find. The food here is exceptional, from the appetizers to the desserts. The meat is halal and grass fed, so high quality and tasty. Everything was fresh, well-seasoned and unique; nothing had a universal sauce or flavor. In addition, the homemade sauces were all unique and flavorful. Tried the chicken & lamb kabob - and it was delicious! Juicy, tender, and very flavorful. The portions are also very generous. The rice is especially flavorful (though a bit oily), and the white yogurt sauce was creamy and sweet - a great touch. Took off one star because we ordered a side of hummus and it was $6 (!!), which was extremely over priced for the amount you get - it tasted OK - definitely not worth the money. This was the first time I have eaten here, but certainly not the last. The lamb kabobs was without a doubt the best lamb I have had in a long time. The rice with kabuli toppings was a little sweet and a little spicy and all delicious. Service is counter.. But don't let that discourage you.. So good! The beef kofta are juicy and flavorful and served on a giant bed of rice. The kids devoured the chicken kabobs and all the naan. A triumvirate of sauces on the table put it over the top. Bright, clean, and modern. We will be back often. read more
