It's the weekend and that other brunch place has an hour wait? Look no further, Mazama also offers a weekend brunch menu. It's definitely a brewpup/taproom and has taproom vibes and service. Very clean space. Love sitting on the patio or by the windows. They offer hashes, breakfast plates, simple benes. Service is aloof tho. The few times I've been I couldn't tell if it's a one-person show or what. One time it took over 30 to get our food and same with our check. Taproom chill vibes maybe. Ambience could be better too, because of the acoustics you hear everything including the fan/hood vents. No music can make it a little awkward if your party isn't social. Pass one the breakfast potatoes, they were like slices that got deep fried? Super oily. Eggs are cooked nicely and the hashes they have are decent. If they worked better on service I would be a regular, but for now they are just a backup option for me. read more

Me and my boys took a detour from the parts store to went to wet the whistle, get the day started and/or do some adulting. It's a nice bar. We sat at the bar. My sons both ordered their hazy and I dropped the mic with a glass of their Mazamanator Dopplebock WOW! We enjoy a small charcuterie board too. I watched Mazama be constructed before I knew it was Mazama. I was introduced to Belgian beers by Mazama when they opened and greatly enjoyed them. It was quite an adventure of discovery! I was blown away by the quality of their food. I enjoyed their brews and food on many a cold, dark night outside, dressed in hat and coat, during those early days of Covid. I've been back a few times since then and just enjoyed another great meal. So it's time for an update! While I usually go for the Dubbel or the Grand Cru, this time I had the Imperial Stout and greatly enjoyed it. Also enjoyed another terrific Mazama burger. What struck me on day one and what continues to be true all these years later is the Excellence they demonstrate in everything they do. The beers are creative and first rate and are part of a long tradition. The food far exceeds typical pub fare. I usually have to trek to downtown PDX to find pub food of this quality. I greatly enjoy the Mazama burger. The Bavarian Pretzel is amazing. And the Donut Holes are terrific. They have a great menu full of small plates and entrees. I have my work cut out for me! They have a terrific modern space with plenty of tables (great for large groups) as well as a loungy area, a great bar, a window bar, and a terrific outside patio looking over the Jerry Willey plaza. Service has always been exceptional - considerate, kind, and personable. I'm grateful to be able to walk to such a great place. There is also plenty of street parking and a garage with free parking for those traveling over here. And they're a block away from the MAX stop. It's well worth the trip! read more

I almost did not write a review for Mazama Brewing as the restaurant was enduring tough challenges last night. We showed up at 5:00, and there was only thee people at the bar. My wife and I chose not to go to Portland due the snow issue. They decided to close the kitchen and closed early due to the storm. Natalie, who has taken care of us previously is tremendous. She is friendly and very engaging. I am not sure of the kitchen staffing last night, but my Reuben was black on the outside from being over grilled. Then I realized it was $21 plus $1 for fries? The website does state that it may not reflect actual pricing or items. But $22? I used the website for my ordering, as it stated the Reuben was $17, and I would have ordered something else. It was not worth $22. My wife's Mac & Cheese was supposed to be vegetarian, but she found several pieces of bacon in it??? C'mon...be more careful. Mazama Brewing was a brewery that Steve and I recently paid a visit to. I appreciated their broader hours of operation as quite a few breweries weren't open yet in the area as we were out and about on the earlier side of the afternoon. We didn't get any food here and just had one round of beers. Unfortunately we weren't too impressed with them. I got the Deadline Pilsner. Pilsners are often a "go to" for me right next to lagers. However the Pilsner I had kind of had an odd aftertaste that I couldn't pit my finger on. Steve had something similar with his beer also when I took a sip of it. He confirmed his tastebuds detected the same. We never could put our finger on what it was but it didn't fit the beers at all. Despite that other flavor features with the Pilsner are clean, floral, hoppy and a hint of spice. The beer is light bodied which was great for the hot summer day going on. We just wished the beers were more memorable and minus the oddly placed aftertaste. Service was alright but was sluggish at times despite the place being empty. Checked in again this weekend and I'll admit: I'm really not sure what's happening anymore. All of Mazama's brewing equipment went up for auction in December. They don't actually brew beer anymore. Despite being founded and based in Corvallis, Mazama hasn't had a place in Corvallis to try its beers since 2021. They were founded as a Belgian brewery, but their big beers are now Pilsner and "Mexican lager" which, I'm sorry, but doesn't make them more extraordinary for beer than any place on Calle Diez at the moment (also, when "craft" beer bros take their stab at Modelo because that's what's selling, the result's always hilarious... bro, make a more "pick me" beer that will never be picked by the people who actually drink it). So you don't make your beer and bring in what's fundamentally relabeled Urquell and Modelo, but not as consistent? Cool. But what's the identity here? It used to be "only bar in Orenco," and that's legitimate: Orenco Bar & Grill keeps hours that can best be described as arbitrary and its chief competitor until recently was a really good Schmizza bar. But now? One Horse need to figure out its personality, but it's not bad and provides better beer than Mazama's contract-brewed nonsense. So what's the draw? I'm told it's brunch, which--again--just reflects on the Grill's poor hours and the reluctance of the general population to deal with lines and day care at La Provence. It was once a German/Belgian menu, but with the exception of a pretzel and bratwurst, this place is no more German or Belgian than your average McMenamin's It's a lot of burgers, which--now that BYO Little Big Burger at One Horse is an option, what are we even doing? This isn't like Backwoods downtown: Backwoods has a remarkably robust menu, a far more full bar, and multiple taps of beer produced by its namesake brewery. This isn't like McMenamin's, where (at best) you have a pretty building to stare at and familiar menu items to embrace or (at worst) a passport to stamp. This is just an empty shell of a former brewery giving people a view of a commuter train as they look despairingly for other options. I don't wish for Mazama's closure, as the people of Orenco have endured enough, but I do hope it finds a post-brewery menu and identity that takes it out of this sad brewpub cosplay. read more

Great Marzen beer, which keeps me coming back. Haven't tried their regular menu yet, but burgers and sandwiches look good. Tried their happy hour menu once, and it was likely the worst happy hour I've been to in my life. It's cheap, but the portions are minute and the quality is low. Mazama 'Brewing' acts as more than just a brewery. I couldn't tell you how refreshing it was to have an ice-cold beer or how their brews tasted- because I'm not a beer drinker and it wasn't that kinda party. This place actually saved the day nicely when my daughter tried to treat us for an early Brunch elsewhere and that wait was an hour. Greeting was good. Seated right away. Small menu- but equipped with the right goods. Cement pillars, high ceilings and ample floor space. From hubs' Fried Chicken+bacon sandwich, Veggie Omelette my daughter and I had and her partner's French Toast- it was good. It's in a really cute development of apartments and townhomes and shopping right there. There's a really nice patio area and that's where we sat since we had the dog with us. On a hot summer day in OR, it was perfect. Don't let the counter service fool you - this place has really great food. It's a smaller menu, but what they do have is done well. The fried pickles are good, but I am nursing my palate behind my front teeth because they were nuclear (temp) hot. I had the Sweet Potato Sandwich (add grilled chicken) and holy crap it was delicious. While it could have had a bit more arugula, it was probably one of the most inventive things I've ever had, and they were pretty accommodating with the meat addition. We also had the bacon jam burger which is very good but messy, and a large salad with chicken. I think my dinner won, but overall it was a nice meal. The beer is very different from upper Washington, where most of my beer drinking occurs. There are your requisite IPAs, but they had four (count 'em, FOUR) Belgians on the menu. That never happens! I got the dubbel, which was the darkest beer on the menu - no stouts or porters here - and while it was pretty high ABV, it was one of the lightest I've ever had. I was also able to try the amber and the pilsner, which were both very thirst quenching in the 88* heat. Service is pretty good - they don't rush you and when we asked for something it came out fairly quickly. Go and people watch, enjoy a beer, and kick back. You deserve it. read more

Service was beyond terrible. Had to wait for 50 minutes for our orders to arrive. We then realized that only half of our orders had arrived, when we asked our server she went inside to check and did not come back to inform us what went wrong. after another 10 minutes we went to ask her what happened to our order that is when she said she didn't place the rest of the order. The way the entire situation was handled was terrible. Will not be coming back. I hope they hire more servers or hire more friendly people who are better equipped in handling such situations. read more

So far Mazama has been hitting all the marks! It has very quickly become a regular stop during or after a busy week. I've made my way through several of the food items on the menu and each one was really good. They have a decent burger and Bloody Mary too! The beer is delicious, local and worth a taste of you haven't had the pleasure. When I think of a fun local spot with great view and atmosphere I end up here. Plenty of space and not too loud. I like to sit at the bar overlooking the plaza in the evening, especially when it's rainy outside. It has a cozy fun feel that I haven't found in a lot of other places. You could sit and watch the Orenco Station hustle and bustle from your warm seat while unwinding from a long day with a cold drink and warm snack. We came here on a Saturday for breakfast. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The food was mediocre. I got eggs and bacon. The egg was undercooked the bacon was ok and the toast was not good. Maybe they were having a bad day? It was slow so who knows. Might go back and try something non breakfast and review again. I want to love Mazama... but so far I just don't. They get really busy so they must be doing something right for a lot of people, and I don't entirely disagree. The food is good, in a salty greasy craveable but tummyache-inducing way. Which is sometimes what you want, right? I just know both times I've eaten there, I've felt like I needed a shower and some vinegar. Heavy hard-to-digest food that tastes good for the first two bites and then you have big regrets.... Unexpectedly amazing food. I did not have high expectations for how quality their food was but, it blew me away. We got the burger, reuben, and fried pickles. Fried pickles were tasty but would have preferred small slivers because the fried casing quickly fell apart as we ate them and they had a similar temperature to the surface of the sun so they were quite difficult to eat. The burger- they knocked out of the park, everything was fresh and the whole thing was the perfect size. I always appreciate when beer places have salad as a side option. The reuben was tasty but lacked any substantial meat, it had a very thin layer of meat which left us wanting more. The beer was relatively well priced and was super great! The service was probably the most eh thing about this spot, it was order at the host stand kind of deal but sometimes she would come around to tables and take orders so we were confused. We spent over two hours here because of this confusion and the servers inability to communicate directly how it worked but she was too busy helping others to even take our order. Nonetheless, they were kind and the weird system was not their fault. Maybe it was a one time fluke! This is a great place to enjoy the weather and people watch at Orenco Station. Seems like they have game nights and specials making it a a grand hangout spot. read more

First time here. Stopped over for lunch with friends who had been prior and loved it. Place has nice outdoor and indoor dining. Friends ordered a beer flight, bratwurst and Risotto and said all was delicious. I ordered the cider which was amazing and the grilled sweet potato sandwich which was also quite tasty. We stopped in last night for the first time around 6pm. They were quite slow, 2 tables finishing up inside and one on the patio. I've got no idea how things were prior to covid, but the setup currently is very casual...there's a sign outside to seat yourself, as well as QR code cards to reach the menu placed on the tables. After waiting a few minutes and noticing no one was coming to take our order, we glanced around and spotted another card on a nearby table that stated to go to the counter to place an order. We actually only saw one employee covering all aspects of the front...he took our order at the counter, ran the bar, brought out our food...until we were leaving, at which point we saw one other. Although very pleasant, the service is very much counter service only, as no one came back after the food was brought to the table. The food itself was pretty good. We ordered a chicken banh mi sandwich with fries and a fish n chips. The flavor was pretty good on both meals: smaller fish pieces with heavy breading but loads of fries. Our only real complaint with the meal was the fries...way too heavy handed on the salt for us. The indoor seating area was a tad messy, crumbs around. But clearly running on minimal staff I guess that's not too surprising. Could be better, but overall a decent meal. read more

That was good. It is a very nice relaxing place. Watching the transit train come and go, was cool! You can sit outside,inside or at the bar. Plenty of free parking. We decided to try a new-to-us restaurant and decided on Mazama Brewing. The night was lovely so we enjoyed the outdoor seating area. My husband tried the beer sampler, while my daughter and I opted for fountain beverages. We started with an appetizer of Porto Fries. I got the Sweet Potato Sandwich with fries (get the fries! They are AMAZING!), husband got the Fried Chicken Sandwich, my daughter got the Chicken Wings. We also got a Mazama Burger to go for my other daughter. Let's talk about a few things about Mazama Brewing: Location- in the middle of Orenco Station with choices of nice covered outdoor seating and cool indoor seating. (Also great for people watching!) There is parking on the side streets if you are lucky but also the spots in the parking garage for up to 2 hours. Also dog friendly! Food - Beers are great and refreshing! (Which I hope so being that they make their own beer) Food is good and hit the spot but I still haven't decided if it was worth the price. Fried chicken sandwich was crispy and flavorful, side salad is fresh. Hubby wanted to get the lobster Mac and Cheese but they didn't have lobster (on a Friday night for dinner) which was a bit disappointing, but he got the bacon version instead - a bit salty. Service - nothing to complain about here! Everyone was super friendly but mostly you just order inside and they will bring out the food and drinks. BONUS: In their bathroom they have diapers for the changing stations! This is very exciting for me as an expecting mom to see! Will be back after baby is here so I can try to brews :) read more

Finally open! We came in for the soft opening last weekend and for some beers today. They are working out some of the kinks of service but we have had great experiences so far at Mazama. The beers are good and they have a variety of European styles to fit various tastes - it's not all IPAs, thankfully. The space is simply decorated but has some nice tiling work around the bar. I love the wooden counters and the fact that the windows can be opened up to the outside on a nice afternoon. For food, we had the fried chicken sandwich and the fish and chips. The fish was a little bit more thickly battered than I normally like but it was kind of like a doughnut or funnel cake batter which was oddly enjoyable. The chicken sandwich also hit the spot and had a good hunk of chicken. The pickled eggs were a nice way to start our meal with the vibrant colors. I'd get them again. The only thing I didn't like was the apple dessert - I just didn't think the firmer panna cotta went that well with the sour apples and crumble topping. It was like having too separate desserts in one cup. Our server was still learning things but she was very nice and friendly. I'm very excited to have Mazama in the neighborhood and judging by how busy it was, everyone else is excited too! Oh, did I mention they do brunch and have a lot of dessert options?
