A smaller setting than I expected from a legend, this cozy tavern offers a comfort that can be felt as soon as you enter and see about 10 tables packed in plus the bar and its stools. Worn and aged wood tables, wood walls plus the bar all show the history and patina of good times. The menu is limited but covers meat, greens and beverage perfectly. I enjoyed a pint of cold Drop Top, and a Jumbo hamburger sided with oodles of tasty onion rings which was in itself a belly buster meal! Certainly, more than I could ever expect to consume in a single sitting. Our server was friendly and attentive. All in all, a solid 4-star experience! My partner found this place online and I was like "good luck with that" thinking we're never out that way. Cut to a few weeks later and we were driving for something else when I was like "isn't there a place way out here you wanted to try?" Less than 10 minutes away so we decided to stop for impromptu lunch. Had to get the giant cheeseburger (add bacon) and yes it was huge. Not to mention evenly proportioned and delicious. Also got the onion rings and she brought us out a huge container of their special sauce. We ate outside because it wasn't too bad of weather. We've been coming here for many years now. I don't know what to say about this place. When the order is right and is fresh and hot, it is good. Really good. However, more times than not the order is wrong. And when I say more times than not, I truly mean it. I say one out of 10 times the order is right. And it isn't a strange order or complicated at all. A basic order with a few things omitted and a side of ranch and "goop". Why is that so hard, I wonder? And not just that the orders are usually wrong but sometimes you will get your food hot and fresh and other times the buns will be cold (like straight out of a fridge cold) or the fries will be cold and soggy. I feel like the dump some fries on the plate while they wait for the burgers to finish cooking and if they are busy, then they don't bother warming up your bun either, just pull a cold bun right out of a package. Nothing worse than a cold bun on a hot burger patty with a side of lukewarm to cold soggy fries. Sigh. Their ranch dressing is awesome and never fails us. I'd heard that this spot had some of the best burgers in town, and as a self appointed burger aficionado, I had to try it. I parked and was unsure where to go at first, but ended up seeing a sign by the patio so I sat outside. I was immediately hit with the smell of the dumpster, and while not overwhelming, was noticeable and isn't something you want to smell while eating. I appreciate a simple menu, as it makes me feel like the food is more fresh. However, it was almost too simple and it wasn't clear to me how much bigger the "jumbo" burger was from the normal one. In the end, I opted for their normal burger and paid the extra to add cheese and bacon. I also got fries on the side. The food was good. Not amazing, and certainly not good enough to be one of the best burgers in town, but good nonetheless. The difference in quality was more noticeable than the overall taste. The food also came out quickly, which is always good. My server was nice and attentive. I do have to say though, that I didn't quite care for the attire of the other servers. Of the 4 girls I saw working, 2 were easily wearing clothing I would consider inappropriate for a family-friendly restaurant. A 3rd server was borderline and mine was the only one that I'd feel comfortable having wait on my kids. All in all, I can see the appeal of this place and I do like supporting local small business. We had an extremely friendly server in the dining room that allows kids under 21. It was a bit cool outside so we opted to eat inside. The burgers could not have been any more perfect. The bun was soft and warm, and the beef was well-seasoned, which seems to be not the norm lately. The hand-cut french fries are always great especially with a side of "goop".
