This is by far my favorite McMenamins location... definitely the standout among the freestanding options that are non-hotel properties. A bit out of the way from the city, but undeniably worth the journey. The open floor plan is amazing to create a warm and welcoming environment. However, noise carries a lot because of the layout. The fireplace downstairs is such a lovely presence... and the artwork/decor is amazing. Standard pub fare that is mostly what you would expect from a McMenamins. Cajun tots, burgers, salads, sandwiches and fresh beer. Try the Ruby if you can't decide what you drink... you can thank me later. Service is good but not great. That's not unique to this location; it's part of the McMenamins experience. However, the ambiance and old woodsman tavern flairs make this one worth the trip.

This is one of my favorite McMenamins locations! There is lots of parking and tons of room inside. The staff looked stretched to the hilt! We wanted to sit upstairs and the team said that was fine, but we would have to order at the bar downstairs and bring our drinks up ourselves. I got some blackberry ciders and some waters and we sat on the quiet patio that looked out over the chicken coops. It's a perfect spot when the weather is right. Great venue, great drinks, and the staff needs reinforcements!

Love the two big mushroom lights as you walk in the front door!

Rock Creek Tavern is one of the many McMenamins locations surrounding the Portland metro area. This one is way far out from the city but the more remote location adds to the charm of the place. The restaurant is in a barn but it isn't the original building. The original burned down and so it was rebuilt to the same detail as the original. Very atmospheric here and love the mushroom decor and themes that they have going on here. I didn't miss the chance to get the seasonal Black Widow Porter which is typically only available in October and once again had their delicious Dill Tuna Fish Sandwich. The upstairs is really cool as the mushroom theme continues and on nicer days you can eat outside from the upper floor.

This Mcmenamins sits in a very rural area. Not many houses nearby. Gravel driveway. Parking is a little tight. It has a fireplace in the main foyer. An elk adornment meets you in the foyer. It has a very rustic feel to this restaurant. More seating upstairs and shuffleboard and a pool table is available. The lighting upstairs is more brighter downstairs.

Ambiance 4.5 Food 3 Prices 2 Service 3.5 This is one of our favorite places because of the ambiance. On a rainy cold night relaxing by the fire or sitting by the pot belly stove with a hot buttered rum are priceless moments. On a warm summer night sitting outside with a cold cider or fun cocktail make my day. Sitting outside by the fire or by the portable heaters on a cool night keeps me warm as we enjoy the fresh air at this off the beat location. The decor is awesome with so much to look at surrounding you giving you a warm comforting feeling. We have caught occasional live music nights and really enjoyed it as well as other nights we seek a quieter relaxing evening. The second floor has Moore seating and some shuffle board games. Prices have creeped up over the years and spiked especially after the pandemic. The Cajun tots are always a must starter with the peppercorn ranch along with a seasonal choice. The bayou salad is my favorite or just a pub salad add blue cheese crumbles. This will continue to be our go to hide away spot.

Cozy and mossy (on the outside) brewery! Loved the son of a peach cider and fish and chips. The coleslaw was also really good. It was crispy, fresh, and slightly rich. Kinda far out location but worth the drive if you're around Hilsboro/Beaverton.

The staff is wonderful as usual but they seem really undermanned for how busy it was tonight.

[Format & Space] Seat yourself*, review the menus at the table, order at the bar, they bring your food and drinks to your table. *Plenty of tables, some with long benches, others with chairs on the inside. There's also a large patio. This is a welcome and safe space. [Drinks] Right up front, I'm going to tell you I'm a lightweight. I'm allergic to alcohol, so I don't drink often. Here's one of the things I love about The 649. They have a fantastic selection of mocktails that are created with the same creativity, flair, and intention as a "leaded" cocktail. I appreciate that I get to participate and not be stuck with a lemonade, zero alcohol beer, or wine. So, HUZZAH for creating an inviting space for a non-drinker! There *are* times when I'm willing to risk the lobster-bod, itchiness, and stuffy nose and there are plenty of cocktails from which to choose! [Food] There's a nice selection of sharable plates and mains. I've personally tried the flatbread pizza, Bavarian pretzel, Cubano, and Brisket Press, all of which were delish. [Service] The service has always been fabulous. The staff are welcoming, friendly, and helpful. [Activities] There are a few TVs around the bar with sports. It was a great place to catch some of the World Cup games. Additionally, there are several games that you can borrow and play, which is a lot of fun. [Location] Tucked in a busy shopping center with Safeway as an anchor. Parking hasn't been super problematic yet, but based on one of the other reviewers (Ron R - loved your formatting too, so I borrowed it until we get rich text formatting or emojis!) I can see where it could be a challenge.

*Closed business notice* Yeeeeah... BDSM is abbreviated…read morelike that on purpose and isn't accidental or coincidental at all. To be honest I tried two attempts here to get their beer and both times were fails. The address associated with their Yelp entry here seems to be at the owner's house. And they indeed did have a small taproom here going off of the Yelp pictures. People really liked the beers from the other reviews and the concept definitely caught our attention (ahem) but when we got there and within operating hours of the taproom everything was closed up tighter than a drum. We wanted to make another attempt to try their beer at a later time and when we did it looked like they moved to downtown Hillsboro. We'll we made it there, Steve and I and went in the door only to be told they were closed BUT the owner didn't turn us away and so we had a can of cider. They were doing a remodel and we figured we would make yet another attempt in a few months to try their beer since none was available during the particular time the remodel was taking place and when we arrived. I made a third attempt only to find out the old BDSM sign was taken down and smoked meats and cold beer were sold at the location we were at months before. All of these changes must have been recent and swift because the third attempt was a week ago and Google had the business in the search as still being open and they had an active Facebook page. The Facebook page and has since vanished in a week's time and the Google result says they are permanently closed. They still have their own website up but I wouldn't imagine that is very useful at this point and time. Too bad. A few missed opportunities here without a full on beer experience with what they brewed.

The outside seating appears closed in the winter and the curb appeal needs a helping hand. A pint is $9 with a half pint costing $5.00. Give them a shot; definitely worth it!
