The food was exceptional, the restaurant was pristine, and the waitress provided excellent service. The horchata was incredibly delicious. I highly recommend trying the El Rey Matzlan plate as it was truly delightful.

Joelton doesn't have much, but if you're looking for Mexican in the area you have come to the right place. Holiday weekends they are usually a packed house. Not simply because it's not many restaurants in the area but also because authentic Mexican is the best! Mazatlan does not disappoint. I got the shrimp burrito and it was amazing. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned to protection. The rice was amazing as well. My husband got a chicken quesadilla that he also enjoyed it. He loved the flavor and the size was filling. Chips and salsa was fresh and delicious. A little spice to the salsa just how I like it. All in all, I definitely recommend.

I was working around the Joelton area and decided to stop and grab a quick lunch at the local Mexican Restaurant while passing through. I have never eaten here before, but love trying new places. The restaurant was clean, had a steady flow of customers coming and going, and the wait staff came and quickly took our order. My friend ordered a cheese enchilada and burrito combo and I decided to try the shrimp cocktail. The food came out quickly and we ate and left. This wasn't the best shrimp cocktail I've had, but not the worst either. It was kind of middle of the road. I guess when you're in the middle of nowhere a place like this will suffice. Not sure I would go back, not that the food was bad, just kinda ok...no real wow factor. (Sorry for a blah review, but that's kinda how we both felt after visiting - just kinda BLAH!)

This is one of three restaurants in the area we are staying in. We didn't have time to sit in so we ordered a taco salad for carry out. We were told five minutes and the order was in our hands in exactly five minutes. We were given a bag of tortilla chips and salsa with the salad. The salsa has a little heat in it but not as hot as I like it. The chips weren't warm but they tasted good. The salad was really moist but it didn't seep out of the taco shell. The taco shell was airy, flaky and light. We enjoyed the meal.

From queso to quesadillas, fish tacos to birria...Pueblo Viejo has all the classics combined with a few house specialties. I usually go with the classic arroz con pollo, but decided to switch it up and go with the Quesadilla El Rey, which featured grilled chicken, cheese, mushrooms and onions, sided with rice. The quesadilla was delicious, well cooked and packed with the goods! Of course before the main, I started with a small queso. The queso was bland and a bit thick for my liking. The complimentary salsa was also nothing special. They both got the job done, but were just okay. The space is small, one large dining room featuring a variety of table setups along with a small bar in the back corner. No frills space, which is duplicated in their food. Service was friendly and timely. Place was clean and well kept. Overall, Pueblo Viejo is a solid 3.5 for me. Happy to go back and enjoy a meal, but wouldn't go out of my way for it.

We arrived on a Friday evening after requesting a table for 10 we were seated (two of our walk-in party of ten hadn't arrived yet). Once seated the very mean grouchy looking wannabe be waitress refused to take our drink orders while we waited for the last two people that we explained were on the way. We were sitting in our seats. The place was empty except for a table for two near the front. I understand busy restaurants that take reservations need to keep a flow going. But this place was practically dead and we weren't required to place reservations ! There was only a cold miserable unsmiling gestapo telling us she refused to take any drink orders until the last two parties arrived. Like she didn't care about restaurant revenue or being polite the inconsiderate horrible woman who didn't know how to be a waitress/hostess I bet wanted us to leave so she could be free to not have to service a party of 10 by herself. So 5 of us went to a different eatery and enjoyed drinks and delicious food and smiles with appreciation next door where we were valued and shown some class. This same wonderful employee doesn't understand the food service industry protocol that requires smiling, being respectful and your tip will reflect the appreciation for good service and being treated respectfully and appreciatively. Zero star if I could for customer service. Food ? I wouldn't know 5 of us left. If I get treated rudely I refuse to spend money while being treated disrespectfully. I think the other 5 in our party were sitting farther back and didn't understand why the other half of our party left. I am 68 years old and grew up in a Metropolitan city so I have had a vast number of experiences at restaurants and this was the rudest I've ever been dealt.

Menu has all the classics and a few house specialty dishes. I stared my meal with a small queso and went with the lunch order of Chilaquiles. The Chilaquiles had chicken and a red sauce that was perfection. Not too thick, but also not runny or watery. It stuck to the chicken, cheese and chips very nicely. It was a pretty tasty lunch! The queso was standard, nothing special, but it was exactly what I was after. Only thing keeping it from a full 5 star is value. While the Chilaquiles and rice were well priced and worth the $12.99, the small queso coming in at $6.50 and the side of sour cream pushing $2.00 was a bit surprising. Overall, solid Mexican spot that I would happily swing back by when in White House!
