Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant is just off of Highway 24 in the small town of Joelton, Tennessee. It is very nondescript from the outside and even inside, it is still nothing fancy. Still, I was greeted warmly and seated quickly. They brought me some salsa and chips and honestly, I found both to be a bit mediocre. I would even guess that both were store bought. However, the chips and salsa were definitely the low point of the meal. I opted to go with one of their burritos, which I found to be priced pretty good. A chicken burrito was just under ten dollars ($9.99 to be exact) and if you went with beef, it was just under eleven dollars ($10.99 to be exact). Mazatlan Mexican Restaurant turned out to be a convenient dinner choice in an area with not too many dining options. They were priced well, the food was decent and the portions were big. Taking the area and the lack of restaurant locations, I will go up to five stars. Anywhere else, I would drop it to four stars, but here, it is a good choice. read more

Joelton doesn't have much, but if you're looking for Mexican in the area you have come to the right place. Holiday weekends they are usually a packed house. Not simply because it's not many restaurants in the area but also because authentic Mexican is the best! Mazatlan does not disappoint. I got the shrimp burrito and it was amazing. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned to protection. The rice was amazing as well. My husband got a chicken quesadilla that he also enjoyed it. He loved the flavor and the size was filling. The eggs, beans and rice were good, Tanya judged the chili relleno's to be the best ever. The supplied tomato salsa was fair, and the chips were just chips. Honest review. We eat here all the time. There seems to be two cooks. One of the two is way better than the other. Salsa sucks. Food is good. If the one guy cooks it's exceptional. I was working around the Joelton area and decided to stop and grab a quick lunch at the local Mexican Restaurant while passing through. I have never eaten here before, but love trying new places. The restaurant was clean, had a steady flow of customers coming and going, and the wait staff came and quickly took our order. My friend ordered a cheese enchilada and burrito combo and I decided to try the shrimp cocktail. The food came out quickly and we ate and left. This wasn't the best shrimp cocktail I've had, but not the worst either. It was kind of middle of the road. I guess when you're in the middle of nowhere a place like this will suffice. Not sure I would go back, not that the food was bad, just kinda ok...no real wow factor. (Sorry for a blah review, but that's kinda how we both felt after visiting - just kinda BLAH!) read more

This is one of three restaurants in the area we are staying in. We didn't have time to sit in so we ordered a taco salad for carry out. We were told five minutes and the order was in our hands in exactly five minutes. We were given a bag of tortilla chips and salsa with the salad. The salsa has a little heat in it but not as hot as I like it. The chips weren't warm but they tasted good. The salad was really moist but it didn't seep out of the taco shell. The taco shell was airy, flaky and light. We enjoyed the meal. read more

This is a solid Mexican restaurant. I had a taco dinner consisting of 1- steak, 1- chicken 1- El Pastor. They were all very good! Steak and chicken were served with cilantro and onion, El Pastor with onion and pineapple. Everything was delicious. It did not seem like the corn tortillas were toasted on the grill before tacos were made, I would've preferred that. Their red salsa was also good, not too hot but the salsa verde was a lil hot for me. On a follow up trip I ordered a steak burrito and was confused as to how it was served; it wasn't traditional, with the all the ingredients rolled up tight in a flour tortilla, but more like a large quesadilla smothered with cheese and salsa. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I would return and try other things for sure! read more

This is our favorite restaurant in Joelton! Although it looks like your average Mexican restaurant, the food is so much better than average. We frequent the steak/shrimp fajitas, taco salad, or the chicken camarena. Their margaritas are sneaky good (strong without tasting strong), which you can even get to-go! Really not much to say about this place other than it's a "copy and paste" Mexican Restaurant. Food is okayish, but pretty lacking compared to other Mexican places around. Prices at least reflect that. Service is fast and friendly....Margaritas taste like they are made with sweet and sour instead of a margarita mix; not bad, just don't taste like a Margarita should.... I give it a 2.5/5 overall but will be nice and rate it a 3 because I've been here a number of times and never really had a bad/negative experience; but also never a great one; They are consistently mediocre which I guess is better than random hits and misses. read more

My wife and I had dinner here for under $40! This included a pitcher of margarita! The food was good! Had the shrimp tacos and they were cooked well and had a decent amount of shrimp. Food is decent, you can tell the typical order in this place consists of tacos or quesadillas. Waiter warned me 3 times that chile would be spicy. Once again work finds me in a far flung place looking for food! The receptionist at the hotel recommended this place even though she doesn't particularly care for Mexican food she says this is really good stuff. So I am here to find out, I find the place a short walk away and it appears to be in a warehouse type metal building. A nice awning out front provides sufficient shade to keep the interior reasonably cool. Upon entering I am taken aback by the number of staff who are not "Mexican" although fortunately I get a Hispanic server with a great knowledge of the menu. The house salsa and complimentary chips are brought out and a drink order taken, they have no Horchata however they have great sweet tea. I am presented the menu and I ordered some of the homemade guacamole. It has a decent flavor however it appears to have a lot of pico in it and it could stand a squeeze of lime. There is good crowd here and a festive mood seems to have settled over the place. I quickly dispose of the chips salsa and guacamole yeah I know what was I thinking. So now that I'm not nearly as hungry as I thought I was I ordered a couple Shrimp quesadillas and request my onions grilled well. There is plenty of shrimp and the flavor appears to be just about there however there are no limes with the plate and the onions are undercooked. I give it 4 stars for the following, I asked twice for limes and my onions were very undercooked. However all other aspects are excellent! Y'all give them a try and rate them for yourselves.
