Buffalo chicken fillets with chilli and lime

Maze Grill Park Walk in Chelsea is a beautiful restaurant with outstanding service staff, cooking tasty steaks with excellent chips at a fair price. If you fancy, you can also find a brilliant English white wine, the Chapel Down Bacchus Reserve, on the menu. Maze Grill Park Walk, the newly opened Gordon Ramsay steak restaurant in Chelsea, is a beautiful place to enjoy some grilled meat. The interior is dominated by matching brown tones and the materials are carefully chosen to create a friendly atmosphere. The well-selected black and white photos on the exposed brick wall are a nice contrast. I liked that this place does not try to be cool, but uses certain design elements to create a classy style with a contemporary twist, far away from the standardised industrial-chic found everywhere these days. Even the music worked fine for me with a mix of instrumental and mainly indie-pop, as far as I recall - and when it comes to the background music, the less I remember, the better. The service throughout my meal was outstanding and all staff I talked to were very friendly and funny. After I placed my order, my waiter was quick to bring me some warm bread with a lovely, creamy butter quennelle - I think that's the correct word for it - with a bit of salt sprinkled on top. For me, this was almost a perfect start. When I had been browsing through the wine list, an English Bacchus Reserve, Chapel Down 2013 from Kent caught my eye. I decided to give it a try as I had great English whites before. The wine was kind of fruity but at the same time very fresh and crispy, nicely cooling down the heat of my starter - and also great with my steak. After I had enjoyed the wine, I looked it up and learned that the Bacchus grape variety is a combination of Silvaner, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau. Interesting. The first proper course was buffalo chicken fillets with chilli and lime. The chicken pieces were coated in a hot marinade and crispy on the outside. The cool lime sauce was a perfect complement to balance the heat of the chicken. As main, I went for the 8oz rare breed fillet. I also ordered the peppercorn and house steak sauces, not so much for the fillet, more for the triple-cooked chips. The steak had a nice and strong flavour for a fillet, the kind of intensity I would usually expect in an onglet rather than a fillet. In contrast to other great fillets, it was not melt-in-the-mouth tender, but it had a lovely crust and tasted excellent. I think their salt block dry-ageing process and the flawless medium-rare grilling make this steak special. At first I thought it was a bit over, but soon discovered that indeed, it was not, when cutting through the red and juicy meat. The peppercorn sauce was good, but once again I was disappointed to find no actual peppercorns in it. It seems that's unfortunately a current trend among many restaurants and gastropubs. The house steak sauce was like an improved smokey, spicy ketchup that went nicely together with the chips. The chips were really crispy, and the larger ones still smooth and fluffy inside. Hands down, one of the best portions of chips I had recently. For dessert I had their interpretation of Eaton mess. It actually looked like a real mess, but the mix of sliced strawberries, brown sugar and herbs made a light and refreshing pudding. The brown sugar added the needed texture to make it an ejoyable dish. An interesting interpretation of a British classic. At the end, I had to acknowledge that the 6oz fillet would have been enough for me this evening. To get ready for my walk home across Hyde Park, I ordered an espresso. A few spoons full of sugar made it drinkable, but once again it was the standard, bitter restaurant fare coffee. Nothing I would recommend unless you just need a coffee to get going. All in all, I think that with Maze Grill Park Walk, the area gets another top-class steak restaurant that is definitely worth a visit.

Gordon Ramsey has done it again! Fabulous brunch on Easter! Everything was perfect we could not of asked for anything better. The service made Easter so memorable with friends and family. All of her meals were delicious and the weather was perfect.

So once I was locked in, I thought the steak would come quickly given I had to cook it but it actually took awhile. It also doesn't come sliced so you truly have to slice it, butter the stone and salt it. Since it is so hot, you'll notice that the entire restaurant is filled with smoke from everyone cooking their steak at a high temp. It was to the point that there was a cloud of smoke and my hair smelled like steak. Moving on to the food, the steak was good as you continued to build the flavor on the stone. The mashed potatoes were really delicious and the broccoli probably didn't need the toasted almonds on it. My bill took a long time to come - I had to ask for it twice. They also include tip and the overall costs of the meal is on the pricey side considering you have to cook your own steak. I probably wouldn't go back for these reasons but if this is your kind of thing, then you might enjoy it.

I also had a Caesar salad salad and they put the dressing on the side for me per my request. It was done very well. The staff overall is very attentive. I wouldn't hesitate to go there!

My friend and I went there for dinner while in Fulham, and were taken aback by the interior, that was the epitome of cool everywhere you looked. We could see why it has a great reputation. We decided that the best way to sample a place we hadn't been before was to order and share every dish. To start with, we went for Smoked beef tartare with kimchi and duck egg yolk, chilli fried baby squid will dill aioli along with ox cheeks with confit garlic and bone marrow crumb. The combination was just great and set us up nicely for the main course. Of course, when in Hanger & Cellar, it would be a crime to miss out on the steaks, so we plumped for 300g of bone in rare breed sirloin and 300g of USDA hanger steak. They were matured, tender and tasted superb. I want all my steaks to taste like this! On the side, we had chips, herbs salt, aioli and then poutine with goats curd and jalapenos to make a real treat of it. The food was cooked with real skill, and the two steaks were some of the best we've ever eaten. Amazingly, we made room for dessert and both eyed up the affogato made of vanilla ice cream, espresso and almonds on the menu. Good choice. Along with the smooth service, it ended the night on a real high note. Can't wait to go back.

Give this place a go for something different, and let's finally make this spot work for a change! :-)

I have to thank that crazy lady who snapped at me for asking if I could have dim sum, thanks lady, really, thank you. What a treat! Roxie is a hidden gem in Fulham, with totally amazing steaks at the most ridiculously good prices. That first night I had surf and turf with fillet and prawns for £15.45, and it was DELICIOUS. The double cooked chips and courgettes were equally tasty. I tucked on to apple crumble with white chocolate ice cream for dessert - and I have to say it was one of the best I've ever had. Because it's also a wine bar, the wine menu is extensive and well priced. And the waiters are knowledgable and speedy but not overbearing. We've been back once since and I had the exact same meal, and it was just as good second tom round. We'll be back for SURE! Maybe NYE 2014 :)

There's no place that puts a smile on your face better than Jack's Place…read more One of the only decent steak houses left in London that doesn't cost the earth, Jack's place overflows with good, old-fashioned home cooking and top secret family recipes passed down through generations (well, I say top secret. They'd probably tell you if you asked. They're that friendly.) Jack's place has the most fascinating history of any restaurant I've been to. Opened in 1968 by retired boxer, Jack Talkington, it is the epitome of hidden gem. Do not be fooled by how easy it is to walk right past it on the busy York road. Once you step in, you can still hear the buzz from the knees ups they used to have, where Jack would notoriously chop off the ties of the businessmen whilst they weren't looking (Jack's place was and is still not for the stiff upper-lipped). The walls are lined with hundreds of ties collected over the decades like medals. If those walls could talk...well, they practically did. Looking like a cross between a vintage boutique and a war memorial museum, every inch of the walls are adorned with trinkets, well-deserved awards, and framed snaps of celebrities on their visits. If it's good enough for Jack Nicholson, it's good enough for me! Jack's Place has well-stocked bar and a menu sporting a few select dishes; quality over quantity - because spending 3 hours digesting the menu isn't fun for anyone. I would suggest wearing loose-fitting clothes to accommodate the generous portions. I started with their garlic butter prawn special, which I don't usually order, finding it difficult to de-shell a prawn in public whilst still looking mildly human. However, the couple on the next table made theirs look delicious (not only do I read the papers over your shoulder - I perve over your meals from a distance. Can't take me anywhere, really...except Jack's Place) so I opted for the same, made extra special by Angela (Jack's daughter) bringing me a twee little bowl of hot lemon water and a mini towel. Their king sized T-bone steak was cooked to perfection, with a classic mushroom sauce and a decent size portion of chips and veg to go with it. Would recommend: Their pecan and butterscotch cheesecake. Tip: Jack's is an intimate little place that would be great for a first date.
