I started with the pork and had the Lamb chops the wife did the chilean sea bass. First off I don't do seafood but that Chilean sea bass is out of this world! May be the best thing I've ever smelled that started in sea water LOL and the taste one word "AMAZING". Now to those Lamb Chops tender tasty finished off with carrots. Excellent, excellent, excellent! Enjoyed dinner at this downtown Washington DC restaurant after reading such wonderful reviews, and let me tell you that Mazi did not disappoint. From the moment we walked in to this beautifully decorated establishment, we were treated with such wonderful customer service from the hostess, our server, and even the manager. Oh, and the food! The food is made from the freshest ingredients and served at the perfect temperature. My husband and enjoyed cocktails (Old Fashion for him and Prosecco for me), as well as the shared bruschetta and Caesar salad. The appetizer and salad was spaced perfectly apart so we didn't feel rushed or overly stuffed when our entrees arrived. And speaking of the entrees, my salmon was flakey and cooked perfectly. My husband is still raving about the lamb chops. My only itty bitty complaint is that the dessert menu is limited with only a few items to choose from. I came in here on a Saturday at 130 pm and it was absolutely empty. I was a little shocked, but it was great. Service was quick and eventually people started coming in. They give free warm bread with butter, which was really good. We ordered the honey feta cheese and it took me back to Greece - so delicious. I would 100% recommend trying. I had the fish and chips, which were also very good. Everyone else in my group really enjoyed their meals again. Will definitely be returning. read more

We had a great meal here- friendly staff, efficient service, diligent drink refills, and great fresh food. We started with the lamb stew, Greek salad, honey feta and fried feta. Everything was great- standouts were the lamb and salad. They also gave us extra bread- great for dipping in everything. For entree we got the lamb burger and chicken kebab. Loved the lamb burger (served with fries) and couldn't get over how juicy and flavorful the chicken was. Chicken is served with veggies on a bed of arugula- it is definitely more than enough food. I actually really enjoyed this first-time visit right up until the end. We arrived about 30 minutes prior to Happy Hour being over, and the bartender was very attentive, recommending drinks and food to try. My friend ordered a drink and I took a sip; it immediately put hair on my chest lol. There was a guy at the end of the bar who laughed and suggested another drink for me, which I really enjoyed. Turns out that guy was a manager so that was kind of cool. Ambiance is nice, we came on a Wednesday evening and the restaurant has low lighting and a relatively low noise level and was not very packed at all. Dishes were excellent and HOT and came out quickly (but definitely not enough for two people to share one plate). So quick in fact, that we had 5 minutes left and ordered the calamari...we should've stopped when we were ahead. True to previous reviews, it was rubbery and bland. The bartender asked if we liked them, and we shared that they weren't that great. He brought us more of the dipping sauce and apologized, which we appreciated. The visit took a nosedive when as we were sitting and chatting, I watched a female Asian server retrieve two drinks for the bartender, and then fished through a jar of cherries with her bare hand trying to pick one out. I was seated at the very end of the bar, so I was only a foot or two from her and the garnish station. My friend was telling me a story and not paying attention, I quickly nudged him and nodded towards the server who was still fishing through the jar. We watched after she finished plucking one out in the palm of her hand and plopped it in the drink. Not thrilled with watching that, even though I'm sure much worse happens in kitchens all over the world. I had the lamb chops and they were cooked to med perfection and seasoned well. Seating was also very comfortable. My husband had the chicken which was also very good. One small complaint. Mazi is a newish restaurant located downtown (super close to McPherson Square or Farragut North). Came in for happy hour on a blustery Tuesday and was welcomed in by an extremely courteous hostess. As it wasn't too busy, she asked me my preference of tables and even let me know that there was going to be a party in the back, so I could pick a seat with my preferred noise level. The happy hour food menu looked absolutely delicious. The drinks weren't the greatest of happy hour deal, but I would say the prices are comparable to other happy hours in the surrounding area. I went with the $6 deal for the house Pinot noir and enjoyed it! My friend and I ordered halloumi bruschetta, brussel sprouts, and the lamb cubes as a last minute recommendation by our waitress. The lamb cubes were my favorite of all the dishes! The meat was tender and cooked in a delicious sauce. The other dishes were tasty as well, but did not impress me as much as the lamb cubes. I would like to return to try more of the food! The service was great and the restaurant was very elegant. I don't normally take the time to write reviews, but I have to give credit where credit is due. You need to try this place if you are in DC. Our group had the pleasure of eating at Mazi last night. In short, it was outstanding. The service was fantastic and the owner, originally from Cyprus, came by to talk with us and answer our questions. He told us where he sources the vegetables and fish fresh daily and where the meats comes from. (FYI, not the standard restaurant delivery guys) I consider myself somewhat a foodie and love to cook and try new things, and our experience at Mazi may have been one of the best meals that I have had in quite a while. Starters: Halloumi Bruschetta- very fresh toppings and the cheese was very nice. Crispy Pork Belly- crisp outer shell with a soft interior. If you like bacon, this was good. Fried Calamari- cooked just right and very tasty. Kefte- perfectly cooked with a crisp exterior and very tasty with the dipping sauce Eggplant w/Cheese- This was my favorite. Although the eggplant was great, it was the saganaki sauce and the melted cheese that hit my palate differently. I could eat this all day, every day. Mains: (And yes we tasted each other's food) Lamb Chops- Double boned and perfectly cooked. Incredibly tasty and moist. Great portion size. A+ NY Strip- Cooked perfectly medium-rare, very good taste and tender. Even the vegetables were perfect with just a little bit of bite which is perfect. Hard to do unless your are a professional. Pork Chop- A+++ This is what blew my taste buds. Mazi brings in entire sides of pork from a specialty farm in the Midwest and fresh cuts the chops. They are large bone-in tomahawk chops served with mashed potatoes and crispy brussels sprouts. The brussels were very good with a slight crispness and a hint of something that made them special. Now on the the chop. Very simply grilled with salt, pepper, and olive oil. It was incredibly tender and the taste was out of this world. The best pork chops I've ever tasted. PSA, make sure you eat the meat on the bone for an even more mouth-watering experience. Making a chop this size as tender and tasty as it was was is difficult. The combination of the quality of meat and the grilling was off the chart. We had desserts as well and they were very good. I cannot wait to be back in DC and enjoy Mazi again and again. read more

I have visited this restaurant when I'm in town as my hotel is usually around the corner and I'm always trying to find good Greek food when I came upon this place. i've come about 3 to 4 times and the lamb burger is usually pretty good. The last time I was there I think it was a bit overcooked for my taste. I will say the service, if you're just a one person or two table, can be slow and you definitely have to flag down a server sometimes. i'm not sure if it's they're trying to prioritize and hustle larger groups for a bigger tip but it was definitely noticeable the last time I was there. I also enjoyed the brussels sprouts appetizer which was pretty tasty but I have had it a few times and sometimes it taste better than other times. They have a small selection of beers on tap and other specialty cocktails. It definitely reminds me of an after dinner spot with coworkers and is more of a worker and tourist crowd. I believe I met the owner one time and he was very nice and from Greece and said the lamb burger recipe was a homemade recipe. It is good but again sometimes it's a bit inconsistent. I wish they would expand the menu with other Greek favorites like moussaka. read more

Met one owner, Yiotis, at the bar, who not only made a unique Manhattan, but poured us an extra shot of Grappa that he shook up in a mixer with ice. Then Yannis (other owner) came up to let us know that he was the Bourbon aficionado - just bought 50 new Bourbons and let me try one he liked (HW Walker? - unique vanilla palate with w typical burning finish on top of tongue). Came here for a large birthday prefix menu. I chose the steak and while delightful and tender, I couldn't help but try some of the salmon. The salmon is absolutely wild! So delicious so flavorful perfectly crispy on the outside and wonderfully juicy on the inside. The side choices it's paired with are great as well. Came here for my graduation lunch with a party of 17. Mazi was extremely accommodating of our group and the seating. The atmosphere was very nice, dim lighting and service was great and timely. My only suggestion, they had a fireplace in front of our table which would have been nice to have on to enhance the atmosphere even more, as well as adding music. Drinks: If you want a nice STRONG drink, this is the place. I ordered the Mazi drink, was a little strong for me and some people at my table, but they were kind enough to switch it for something else that I was satisfied with. FOOD: THE STAR OF THE SHOW. Appetizers that I got to try were the lamb cubes. It was pretty good, sauce on the lamb was very flavorful. For lunch I ordered the Chilean sea bass.. two words, GET IT!! This was probably the best sea bass I've ever had! Very juicy, melts in your mouth yet crispy on the outside, and buttery flavor (explosion of flavor). It was paired with basmati rice, carrots and spinach which were also great. I wish I had a picture to post but by the time I thought of taking one the food was gone off my plate from me and other people at my table stealing bites! My mom got the Wine chicken and she loved it. My brother got the seafood pasta, I tried a little and it was the BOMB!! We ended everything with a molten chocolate cake which was amazing, super moist.
