I'm a big fan of the original Mazunte in Oakley, but this one seems to have a different vibe. The overall atmosphere doesn't feel as authentic as their original location. The food was still awesome just a different concept with the grab a go section and checkout in different location from order station. The overall service was meh - not the greatest. It seemed everyone coming in was confused on where to order, where to pay, what the grab and go section was. I like that they are expanding with new locations, but please don't lose the charm and authentic feel the original restaurant has! read more

This is a bit different than the Oakley Mazunte restaurant but still a foodie experience. I have been here a couple of times and have consistently had great food. Try the mix and match tacos or tostadas if you want some variety. The torta sandwich is a culinary delight as well. Prices are decent and what one would expect for a downtown eatery. It would be nice if they gave an option for an extra taco or two as the three that they give while great may not fill one up as one would hope. Still a great place to get some tart food downtown. read more

I am a huge Mazunte fan- the food is great. The service at this location is horrible. The waitress is absolutely rude- she completely ignored us for a full 10 minutes when we were waiting to order. It was 3:00 on a Saturday and the restaurant was not busy. She then takes our order then goes outside and hangs out with her friends who were eating there and proceeds to spend 15 minutes chatting it up. There was one other couple there who was sitting there and also getting no service. Turns out the waitress forgot their order. The place is a mess and the people working there care zero about any type of positive experience. They were also out of half of the ingredients.... Feel badly that it's difficult to find staff during these times... But I'll stick to the Madison location from here on out... read more

Had a torta al pastor for lunch and it was very good. My order got mixed up, but they were quick to correct it and lmk the reason for the delay promptly. Wish they had some type of free salsa for the tortas and tacos. I may have missed this, as I didn't readily see any....other than what they offered for sale. Bottom line though, this a great addition to the downtown lunch scene. read more

Awesome to have this place within quick walking distance on my lunch hour. I've enjoyed everything I've had - even though I find the pickled slaw flavor to be sort of overwhelming which can make each thing you get kind of taste same. I just need to remember to get it on the side. The tostadas are fantastic - prob my favorite so far because of the crunch. Staff is super friendly. read more

I really love the original Mazunte soooo soooo much. It tastes so authentic and has so many great flavors. You can taste it in every bite. I also just love Mexican food in general too and they're one of the best in the city. Buttttt....the second location I'm not a huge fan of. I've been three times now and have felt the same each time. The food is still good, but it's just not quite the same experience as the other. The quality isn't exactly the same to me. It feels as if it's a bit more rushed than the other. I hate to compare so much, but besides the vibe and menu items being slightly different, I thought the flavors would be the same. I also feel like I pay more at this location than the other and get less food, but maybe that's just in my mind (for example- when order the tostados at the other location, it comes with rice. At this one, it doesnt but the prices are similar). I will try them again because it's certainly not bad, but I do think the quality is not as high. Just my thoughts! read more

Wow. I've always loved Mazunte. Food is great. Their new concept is a nightmare. Confusing process to order, confusing to pay, had to find our own silverware and napkins, left a tip, then got chased on the way out to be told we were supposed to clear our place. If you go here for the good food - know it is a DIY operation. IF I over return - zero tip and I'm getting carry out. read more

Not crowded when we were there but they still forgot about us and had to ask about our food, twice... still got three stars though because the food was great... eventually. read more

This establishment has been open less than a week and we made our first visit there tonight. We had high expectations and those were certainly met. New concept, still great food! The menu is new and the process for ordering is a little different, so be prepared for that if you're used to the Madisonville location. The new concept is also reflected in the street art on the walls. And of course the food is excellent! I went 8/28 and got mixed tacos--camarones (shrimp), barbacoa (beef), and lengua (beef tongue). Very flavorful, and I recommend them! I'll definitely be back. read more

Made the mistake of coming in too soon after opening. In the past we have been to the original location and thought we would try it. Overpriced, cold food, plastic containers everywhere. If you're familiar with the Oakley store, take the trip downtown. Different menu and it's off the chain. Spicier and superb.

I was there the first week they opened. None of the taco fillings were warm. The salsas seem different than the place on Madison Road. And it was expensive. I will give it another try since it was their first week. I love the place on Madison Road. I hope they bring it up several notches. read more
