What a charming, quaint place to enjoy Italian food for date night. Mazzi Cucina feels more like being in someone's rustic countryside home than a restaurant - warm, intimate and full of heart. The decor feels cozy and allows you to unwind while enjoying soft music playing overhead. Our server was so helpful and attentive; offering recommendations and insight on the menu. He was so patient with us and did not hover around even though it was just us in the dining room. I finally had the chance to try beef carpaccio because he assured me that it would be made perfectly and he was right. He offered us the opportunity to choose our own bottle of wine right off the wall as they offer different blends for one to indulge in. Each bottle has a small, brown tag tied around the neck with the price listed. The kitchen is not too far from the tables so you get the warm air with the scent of garlic and herbs floating throughout. They start you off with fresh, warm bread and the most delicious pesto alongside to nibble on while you sip your wine. We ordered the lamb chop roasted garlic and seafood risotto. Was on our way to eat here and they have a plant in the parking spot and we got close to it but you can tell it was already broken cuz it's so far out. This guy in the picture came out to cuss us and was really rude looked like he was drinking a beer on the job too so we decided not to eat here and we went to phome2go instead. Tucked away in NMB's Restaurant Row (near another favorite) on West Dixie Highway is an Italian restaurant a friend who lives in the area recommended. Besides the outside tables on the dimly lit patio, the interior dining area is cozy whether for a date night or solo after a long workday when your dinner becomes lunch & dinner combined especially on a Friday night. Though I arrived near to closing time, the two hostesses were super friendly with recommendations and an invite to come back. Why do I give Mazzi 5 stars? Well, their glorious chicken parm of course. After some changes to an old favorite, I was on the hunt for a hearty and robust marinara sauce and a large chicken breast. I found this at Mazzi! The side of pasta (there's also an option for veggies) is a little past al dente and there are actual tomato slices mixed in. I like this! Throw in a bowl of minestrone in a clear broth but loaded with veggies and dinner rolls with fresh pesto and it's a "winner winner chicken (maybe veal parm next time) dinner". I skipped out on dessert, but my waitress explained enough that I'll be back for some of their tiramisu or profiteroles. (The coffee I did have gave me a much needed boost). read more

I gave 4 star in total because the service was slow and the owner appeared to be drunk. He was drinking wine in the back which is fine, but was visibly drunk walking around the floor and getting close to people. I will definitely go back for the food! read more

We craved Italian and of course came straight to the source to find some place nearby. Mazzi caught my eyes with almost 5 stars, we had to try! I first called to see if reservations were required since it was so last minute, I was told for a party of 2 they are pretty booked but there was 1 table on the patio, we were there in 10 mins! With a 4.5 star rating I'm expecting the best of the best in every category right? So, I was in disbelief that we had arrived at the right location, a run down shopping strip that looks like it's about to collapse and dirty. We approach and are told to sit anywhere on the patio (thin stretch of sidewalk no patio.) The sidewalk in front of the restaurant is what they call the patio, it's very dirty and dingy, there are 2 shops on each side with lots of people going in and out, parking lot spots back right in to the edge of the sidewalk. The lights of the cars are right in your face, my fear was one of them stepped on wrong pedal we were all goners, no barriers to separate or planters because there's no room. Funny, we watched people arrive with no reservations and got seated don't know why they told me on phone they were fully booked and were doing us a favor. The service was basic, not much interaction, menus were dropped off with water and bread. We ordered the beet salad, 4 cheese gnocchi, cheese ravioli. Everything was fresh and tasty. Not sure about price, someone mentioned on their review super cheap, I don't think $27 gnocchi or ravioli is super cheap. We were shocked at how filthy and old this place is, and how bad the food was, especially after seeing how lovely their website is and seeing several good reviews (which I know can be fake). This place is so good, we chose it when the place we were going to go to was closed, and we realized we should have decided to come here to begin with! Can I give it more than 5 stars? We sat inside for the first time and enjoyed the cozy ambiance of the restaurant, like a cottage dining room. There are only about six tables inside, so it could easily get crowded and maybe not very spaced. But that's when you can sit outside. What makes Mazzi Cucina so great? If you ask me, it's the fungi dishes that are the true stars of the menu. Anything with porcini or other mushrooms is incredible---richly fragrant and owning the heft of the flavor of each dish. The menu doesn't have any descriptions of the dishes, just names, so we had to ask what the Grilled Mozzarella was. We found out it was one of the most amazing things you can have here! Melted, edge crusted mozzarella with countless mushrooms in amazing gravy like sauce. We enjoyed dipping and soaking our bread in it so much! For the entrées, I had the Fettuccine Porcini, and he had Veal with Porcini Sauce. The fettuccine is big in portion and flavor, so much so that you don't miss meat in it at all. I was so happy to have the dish for myself after I had tried his the last time we were there and low key wanted to finish his plate. The veal was also wondrous. Tender veal smothered in a buttery, fragrant mushroom sauce. It was a little on the salty side, but again, so tasty to mop up with bread. We asked ourselves, do they put crack in the mushrooms? Do we care? Because seriously, I've never been so happy to have a mushroom laden dinner. When you go to Mazzi Cucina (it is WHEN you go, not IF), get anything your heart desires, but get at least one dish with mushrooms and be enveloped in that wonderful aroma. You're welcome. read more

This was the WORST italian restaurant I have ever been to. To begin with the roof leaks. My friend had water dripping on her from the ceiling. All the waitress said was "sorry." The ambiance is nice but I was squashed into a small table. I went to the restaurant with 3 friends. The service was slow but ok. There was one waitress for the entire restaurant. My friend Joanna ordered a tubular pasta that was very spicy. I tried 1 piece it was horrible. But she was a good sport and did not ask for a refund. She just asked to see the menu and then ordered pasta carbonara that turned out to be very salty. It was disgusting. I tried that too. Jon's food of spaghetti with shrimp was also unedible. Poor Jon doesn't eat during the daytime and only eats at dinner. His one decent meal of the day was ruined. One person ordered spaghetti bolognaise and that was ok. She didn't complain about her food. I will not come back to this restaurant. I don't recommend you do so either. It was a horrible experience. If it wasn't so horrible I wouldn't bother reviewing it. check the menu on yelp the prices seemed good, you could order. when the menu arrived it was totally different with an added 50% on the prices. I arrived at 6:30 pm on a Saturday. I left at 9:30 pm, which is how long it takes for the food to arrive. the place is small and has approx 10 tables. The attention of the waitress is good but it takes time with everything from taking the order to bringing the food or the salt that is not on the table or the sugar for the coffee that is not on the table either. We ordered 3 dishes, the pasta is not homemade and the ravioli was served raw since they were hard. They weren't al dente as the gnocchi and tagliatelle were way too soft. Finally, after bringing us the food, they never asked us if it was tasty or if we had had a problem, since 5 come from the ravioli and I left 3. for that reason one continues going to chain places that you know the prices they have and the qualities and you do not find all these surprises read more

We both left work roughly at about the same time, and when we met up we were already in the North Miami area with no desire to cook. After tossing out ideas for either sushi, pho or the like, we settled on Italian and she mentioned that there's a place nearby which she had never tried, and there was how a night full of amazing food began at a place called Mazzi Cucina. When you arrive, it truly is a little hole-in-the-wall, which I LOVE. Aside from the quaint atmosphere, there's less of a crowd, which is great for these COVID-19 times. We were greeted by Stefano, and we were seated promptly in the outside, and handed menus to begin the night. He would address us in whichever language he was spoken to - Italian, English, Spanish - which, considering my horrible Italian, was definitely amusing. We were brought ice water immediately, and were given a few suggestions in regards to the menu. We had surveyed the restaurant a bit on Yelp prior and I was dead-set on the Porcini Fettuccini from the get-go. One thing we did notice was that the dishes don't really have explanations - you just have the name, but no mention of other ingredients. A few minutes went by and we got two pieces of bread with a green sauce that looked like pesto, but it was not - more like a parsley and garlic mixture. Very good - not too strong, perfect texture for spreading. We had never had grilled calamari, and with both grilled and fried being on the menu, we decided to adventure a bit and try it. WORTH IT! Although I am not a big fan of olives, I will admit that having a bite of every ingredient on that cast-iron pan makes the whole dish perfect. After a few glasses of white wine, our star dishes came out. She ordered the Lobster Ravioli, I ordered the Porcini Fettuccini as mentioned earlier. I was amused when the dishes came out, as I had a small bet on the ravioli being served with pink sauce, and it was. The portions were very generous and plating was simple. I took one bite out of my pasta and it was like being showered with a mushroom umami shotgun blast to the palate. It was so savory, and combined with the pasta it was perfect. The sauce was not too thick and there was enough of it on the bottom to toss each bite in, and enough at the end for me to want to dunk in more pieces of bread. Each bite was decadent. One bite into the lobster ravioli, and you could see that they were packed. The sauce was thick and coated each bite thoroughly. There were bits of tomato tosses around that added taste and texture to each bite. Somehow, after wharfing down all of the food, we decided to hear out the dessert menu, and after considering all the options, we opted to go with the panna cotta. When we first took a bite, we were surprised by the flavor. Normally, whenever I have had panna cotta, unless told otherwise, I expect a creamier, vanilla-like taste. This had an herbal, almost floral taste to it. We were discussing if it was something like anise, basil or fennel, but we stopped talking about it long enough to finish it out. It was a hit - the blackberry sauce on the side on every bite was tart and aided in balancing out the dish. We continued to speak with Stefano and he mentioned that as long as they have the ingredients in the back, they can typically make other traditional dishes that are not in the menu, including pasta primavera, osso bucco (told us to call at least two days in advance just in case), and others. We suggested and asked if he has ever made anything with squid ink in the back, and mentioned that he can check to see if he can get it at the market, and similarly that he could be able to make some if we called ahead and expressed our interest. I think our interests lie in returning to this amazing hole-in-the-wall. It's the real deal. read more

The restaurant is located in a small plaza just north of the Spanish Monastery off of West Dixie. You might miss it if you aren't careful. The restaurant was decorated so adorably. Like Grandma's kitchen! Very small and limited seating inside. The restaurant has expanded since my first visit and there is now seating outside. But I suggest to keep it very intimate. Four people at most. Overall my mouth still waters thinking about the amazing food that I have eaten from here. From the char grilled octopus appetizer that was absolute perfection to the entrees which were oh so amazing and full of flavor. I mean everything that this Chef cooked was perfect! Perfect, intimate spot for a date night that feels like you're eating in someone's dining room. The mismatched furniture, warm lighting, and random decor inside gives a sense of warmth you won't find in other places. Food that I tried was upper-tier tasty when compared to other Italian spots that I've tried in Miami. A note about service: My server took the time to learn my name and my friend's name, and hit the target with a great wine recommendation based upon our wine preferences (I enjoy a good glass of wine, but admittedly am not the most familiar with Italian wines). I'd imagine that some people's knock on this place might be that although some might see this as a "hole in the wall", the prices are not "hole in the wall" prices, but are "Miami" prices. A small restaurant near Aventura needs to and SHOULD charge a little more to cover overhead. The exchange is that you get an intimate environment and attention to the details that matter to you. I always say that South Florida needs more small, locally-owned delicious places like this that are concerned with decent food instead of instagram likes, and I will continue to go out of my way to support these types of restaurants. There are only about 6 tables inside and a few more inside. We started with a bottle of wine and the tuna tartare. It was cubes on a bed of salad, more Asian inspired than I expected, but really good. Fresh and tasty! Onto the main course, I had the veal. Amazing. Melted in your mouth and could cut it with a fork. The way it should be! The creamy mushroom sauce was also great. I opted for the side of veggies and potatoes. The potatoes were soft, yet crispy and the broccoli was pretty aldente! Yum! The portion as you can see is really great for what you are paying for My boyfriend got the lobster ravioli. However, in this case I am not going to do that. I have reason to believe that a certain Stefano M. who is apparently associated with this business clearly doesn't want me back, and after what he said, I clearly don't care to go back. If I did, I and now know what the management here is like, I would most likely again rate the place One Star on the basis management attitude alone.
