While the left side is more direct and closer to the Amtrak counter, the right side will take you past the Dunkin Donuts. There's a waiting area, the bathrooms are by the elevator, and only two tracks. 1 is outbound, and 2 heads into Boston. Simple. Start heading out when they announce that your train is arriving, about 8 min in advance. Head towards the right if you are Coach bound. Take a seat and the conductor will scan your ticket code and tuck a paper ticket above you. Take it with you if you change seats. If you go past NYC, the crew changes, and every passenger gets scanned again. If you are ADA and need access to one of their accessible seats, there's a way to mention it when buying your ticket, so the conductor will save you a seat in advance. Two bathrooms are available at one end of the Coach car. If the light is on, the bathroom is taken and the door locked. These are roomier than those on airplanes. So are the seats, although they otherwise resemble those found in planes with the tables that fold down and seats that recline back. 120 volt plugs are available, but no screens and no headset jacks, so no music. Stops are announced, so it felt that communication was pretty good on the train and at the station. Coming back and arriving on track 2, we had to exit and head up and over the tracks, where we could go straight into the garage, or take the escalator down by Dunkin Donuts. There are the usual turnstiles and automated ticket vending machines. It's not located close to coffee but it gets the job done for the morning commute. Yes. Is there an elevator as well as stairs? Yes. Is there sufficient seating along its lengthy platforms? Yes. Can you see and hear announcements anywhere in the station? Absolutely. What more do you want? (Unfortunately Fields Corner T Station has little influence over the frequency of trains running on the Red Line. That's a story for a different review.)

We tried booking the direct train for a concert in Foxborough at the Gillette stadium but it sold out in advance online quickly. We then took the regular train, bought tickets at the desk and the workers were super friendly and helpful and told us where to go and it would tell us where our train track would be departing from. It was very bustling on a Thursday afternoon, once we got our track everyone ran to try to get a seat. Lots of stores and restaurants. For 3 adult one way tickets it was about $26 in total so a little over $8 a ticket one way for an adult. Located in the middle of town and not too far from hotels and public transportation. Took less than an hour to get to Foxborough and was pretty convenient.

The station was buzzing with people rushing to get to work and futbol fans trying to get to the stadium. Police were everywhere. World Cup volunteers and train station staff were very helpful and patient. We paid $85 for roundtrip train tickets from Boston to Foxborough. Normally, it's under $20. We booked the 9am train which is boarding group A. We started lining up to the side of South Station. They had free sunscreen, water, and bug repellent wipes for us. We didn't board until after 9:45am and it was chaotic. Some people were running towards the train instead of staying in an organized line - most of them were foreigners that don't believe in rules, manners and decorum which is beyond the station's control. The train was open seating. There are food stalls, shops, and pharmacy at South Station. The restrooms are not the cleanest as one would expect from a train station at a big city. We've also used this station to get to different parts of Boston before and after the World Cup. The trains were alright.

Getting there was a saga, every person you spoke to at MBTA told you a different place to catch the bus. We ended up walking 16 blocks. We finally get to Harvard and we're randomly let off where I've added pics across from the TD bank but there's nothing clearly labeled which buses to take or not. On our way back we had to ask multiple bus drivers which bus ours should be to get back into the center of Boston. Bit of a nightmare, really. Clearer signage is a definite must, esp on days when it's raining, which it was.

One of the things on my mind was the appearance of this station. I appreciate that the MBTA doesn't have a focus on beauty, then again, it looked neglected, for lack of a better word.  During the recent improvements, the MBTA did a fine job in painting in the platform area, and redoing the floors in the lobby. Sure, the platform floors are a patchwork of concrete, though, considering the expense in removing and repouring, I can understand why this was left as is.  However, the station is not immune from criticism. Primarily stemming from its placement after the Red Line splits into the Braintree and Ashmont lines. If you're going outbound, finding the right platform is straightforward. However, going inbound is a little less so. It is a matter of paying attention to the announcements (the sign with illuminated arrows does not work). Two tracks, on two different platforms go to the exact same destination. Why it is like this is a question for the engineers - however, from my perspective it seems unnecessary where every stop north has one track for Alewife-bound trains.  Another note I have is also regarding the layout. The positions of exists, entrances, and walkways is not the most straightforward. However, this comes with the caveats that when I've needed to use the station I didn't get lost, and I appreciate its location in a busy interchange. Finally, regarding cleanliness, while not the most aesthetically pleasing station around, I did not find it unclean. * Disclaimer: I have not used the Commuter Rail at this station.

There are separate platforms for each fork, so if you're in a rush to get inbound, you will want to stay on the connector upstairs and then catch the next one. Ticketing concourse has the usual Charlie Ticket automated vending machines and turnstiles. There is also good signage that points the way to the Kennedy Library, where you can take the number 2 bus for free. Awesomesauce! This station also gets some trains on the Commuter Rail but I don't know much about that. I did see that not all of the purple line trains going through here stop here. There are elevators from the street level and to the platform but seriously. Do not take the elevator unless you have to! It's quick, but how in hell do people have enough time to pee in here? Jeez, what a stink!

Parking is pay by phone. Weekend rate three dollars for the day (until midnight) and weekday nine dollars. This is the Orange line terminus.

Big crowds, lots of bunching about, it looked uncomfortable. In addition to the buses, Forest Hills is the southern terminus for the Orange Line. It does get some service from the commuter rail and while Amtrak passes through, it does not stop. The next inbound station is Green Street. For the Orange Line, it is an island platform. Signage indicates which is the next track to depart (if there's more than one train) and when. There is also some shelter on the platform if there isn't a train to board. The station is fully handicapped accessible with stairs, elevators and escalators (though in the evening, they were all "up only.") There is parking here for daytime commuters. The ticketing concourse has the usual turnstiles and automated ticketing machines to purchase a Charlie Ticket or add value to your Charlie Card.

There is not much more than a covered bench here for waiting but there is a visible "next train" board that I found not only very helpful, but also very accurate. There is no overhead crossing here, you'll be crossing the tracks at a designated area. If you're headed to the parking lot, then you're waiting for the train to get out of the way before you can cross. For inbound trains, there is a raised platform. There are signs that tell you so, but I did see at least one train rider who didn't see the signs and had to run/jog to get to the boarding area when the train arrived. The station is on the "Franklin" line. For normal runs, it is between Islington (outbound towards Forge Park / 495) and Endicott (inbound towards South Station). On days with Patriots games, there is special service from here that goes outbound to Foxboro and inbound to Back Bay. There are no ticketing machines here that I could see. You can buy your ticket on board (I saw someone do that) or there's an app you can download and use.

There are monster pot holes, poor drainage throughout the parking lot so if it rains heavy you are wading your way to the car. The parking app works to take your money - but if the MBTA runs this lot - they should be ashamed of themselves. Have a little pride.
