    Nice big cool dining area.

Not sure what the reasoning behind the poor reviews are, because the food, employees and restaurant are as awesome as any McAlister's I've ever been in. Better in fact because the were pretty empty due to the time of day I stopped in and because the construction work on the freeway next to them is probably keeping a lot of travelers away. It's not too daunting to get to from the freeway or back onto the freeway from, so fire up that map-quest and let the girl do the directing. She'll have you in front of a yummy sandwich in no time.

All the lights off except the open sign

Stopped by on a road trip. All lights in the restaurant were off except for the open sign. Drove through the drive thru and saw the girl ducked down sitting on floor behind the cash registers. We honked the horn and got her attention and asked if they were open. She said "yeah" the slammed the window in our face and walked by to the counter inside and stood there. Rudest person I've come across in a long time and can't believe she had all the lights off and was hiding behind the counter to avoid doing her job.

It looks messy but it was pretty good. Baked potato with roast beef and cheese, BLT sandwich and a side of broccoli, under $9 with the side.

I was actually very favorably impressed. I had been here once before just to ask questions and try a small cup of their soup. I don't remember what flavor I had but it didn't taste homemade although it was okay. I went back a couple nights ago because I knew they had loaded baked potatoes and I was curious if theirs were any good. They had a nice variety and even the option of what they called the "Pick 2" were you could pick any two items on the menu, excluding Premier items, for $7.99. I decided that sounded like a good way to taste more than one item so I got a spud that included roast beef, cheddar cheese and grilled onions and a bowl of the chicken dumpling soup which the clerk on my last trip told me she thought was good. It was good and it hit the spot on a very cold night. The potato was also very good, not as huge as some places but also not as expensive. It didn't have a funny aftertaste like the potatoes at some places have had but it wasn't nearly as good as what you can get at the Potato Factory. I realized after I sat down and got my food that I had forgotten to ask if it came with sour cream. A girl walking by asked me how everything was and I asked her about the sour cream. Next thing I know she had brought me two little containers of it at no extra charge. I thought that was great and it made the baked potato even better. The soup was nice and hot, which it isn't at all places so I appreciated that also. I was especially impressed with the two employees I dealt with. The one who took my order didn't have the impatience of some employees in fast food establishments and was very pleasant and seem to be genuinely concerned with accommodating his customers. The same thing was true of the girl who brought my food and the sour cream. Genuinely nice young people. That alone would be enough to bring me back. I asked a couple questions before I left and found out all their side dishes are $0.99 each and you can order them separately without them costing more. You know how some places the sides are less if you get them with an order and more if you order them by themselves. I might just go back sometime if I'm not real hungry and get some mac and cheese, some broccoli, and another side dish or a bowl of soup. I definitely want to come back. The only reason it took me this long to try the place out is because I'm not a big fan of chains and have often not had good experiences at them. So far so good at this place.

So my boyfriend and I came in at 8:05 and ordered a sandwich and a wrap with some fruit. Took 25min to get that out which doesn't sound like much but I've never waited more than 10min for my food here before with it being slammed and it's dead here now (yes I'm still here). My wrap is warm although nothing on it is supposed to be. Our fruit is cut poorly (cantaloupe has green rind all over it and the pineapple is straight up just core) and no grapes which the girl at the counter said it would have. Also, almost ALL the tables are dirty with no one cleaning them. The other branch in town would never be this way...

the fly inside The Italian Sandwich

So my family and I went to McAlester's Deli because we wanted to try something new for lunch. I got a normal baked potato, my sister got broccoli and cheese soup and my dad got a sandwich. It tasted so good and we loved it but my dad found a FLY inside his TOMATO. Come here if you would like but it isn't sanitary.

Thankfully, they close on Sunday, allowing us to find this wonderful little gem Girasol Café and Bakery. We had sandwiches on this stop, I had the ham and cheese on a Japanese roll, called the aloha, and my wife had the turkey avocado with homemade chips. Both sandwiches were prepared to perfection. I highly recommend. We also procured several pastries, including an apricot empanada that is baked not fried. Slightly warm, with a cup of coffee it was over-the-top delicious. We took away a lemon square and a granola caramel bar (I forget what the name was) but it didn't make it home, again, unexpectedly delicious. The cinnamon roll was calling feverishly for me, but unfortunately, I didn't try at this time. But the next trip to Amarillo is sooner rather than later so we can make another trip to Girasol Café and Bakery. I can't end this review without mentioning how friendly and accommodating the staff are. We we interacted with at least three, and I can say I truly felt I was appreciated as a customer at this place. Each one of them demonstrated a genuine interest in us and the enjoyment of their preparations of our food. The place is small, but on nice days they can double in size with their outside patio

While we were able to eat quickly, the food was meh and the outdoor eating area smelled like sh*t so we relocated inside. I ordered biscuits and gravy with jalapeño bacon. I LOVED the jalapeño bacon. But neither the biscuits nor the gravy tasted good. The biscuits were more like crackers--hard rather than fluffy. And biscuits (plural) is a bit misleading because it's one biscuit sliced in half and soaked in gravy. Chick-Fil-A makes tastier biscuits. But we visited this place on a Sunday and, unfortunately, Chick-Fil-A was closed. It comes with eggs, but I didn't eat the eggs because they looked like the powdered variety instead of real, whole eggs. My husband wanted a croissant but was told it would take 30 minutes to bake. Maybe we're impatient, but that seemed unreasonable for a "bakery" that had been open for a few hours at that point. So he settled for the smothered burrito. He didn't like that concotion either. The passionfruit teas we ordered were small but good, but not good enough for a return visit. $35 wasted.

Not knowing what to pick, I did a quick search for pizza restaurants and stumbled upon Nomad Napoletana. Luckily, it was just a short four-block walk from the office. Having never been here before, I was not sure what to expect. The interior was clean and modern, and I was quick to be greeted by the friendly staff. I picked the Roni con Queso lunch special with a Caesar salad on the side. For only $10, I got a freshly baked slice of pizza, a fairly large salad, and a drink. The food was delicious. Since I was on my lunch break, I wasn't able to try one of their numerous wines or beers on display. But next time, I'll be sure to see what they have on offer. Needless to say, I really enjoyed this restaurant and definitely plan to come back.

I went with the Diablo slice, and the sauce was absolutely delicious with just the right amount of heat. Spicy enough to clear your sinuses without overpowering the flavor. The side salad was fresh and well put together (not an afterthought), and a large Coke rounded it out perfectly. Great flavors, great value, and definitely a place I'll be back to. Highly recommend for a quick but satisfying lunch.
