I don't go out of my way to leave bad reviews but our experience was enough that I will recommend others avoid the New Bern McAlister's, based on poor quality of food and exceptionally dismissive staff. The fruit cup looked like it had been frozen and had odd white specks all over it. Took that back to the front and got some Cheetos. Spring mix on my sandwich was absolutely foul - slimy and old. Cucumbers in the salad were so old they were wet and the one that got into my mouth was bitter and soft. When I brought that back to the manager there was no apology, no offer to make things right for a $14 sandwich/salad - just yelled back to the kitchen that they needed to throw those cucumbers away. There are really great McAlister's locations out there - this is not one of them. The place was nearly empty on a Sunday afternoon, so I assume everyone else has already figured out what we learned: this location is poorly managed and has no quality control. Waste of my time, huge waste of money; 3 sandwiches for a total of $47 that weren't fit to eat, totally nasty! Asked for well done extra crispy bacon on sandwich, and I swear if I didn't know better I would think they took it out of the package and put it on my sandwich. The lettuce part of my club sandwich was about 4 lettuce tips of spring mix, and the fake cheese really set it off. Stopped in for a late lunch - great location, parking was a bit difficult. Even at 2:30, we only saw maybe two available spots. Pretty busy strip of stores. Dining in is allowed with every other table blocked off for social distancing. Ordering was easy, great menu options. Hubby and I both chose salads, they are so good here! Daughter chose French dip. Food was brought to us about 10 minutes after ordering. Hubby got the blueberry lemonade and it was so good! Unsweet tea was very good, too (some places it's terrible). Daughter did not like her French dip, the meat was quite thick and a bit hard to chew. She didn't finish it. The kettle chips she got were pre-bagged but good. Our salads were good, as usual. We always get the same salads! Solid three stars - 2/3 liked our food, the bathroom was not very clean and the parking might be a problem, especially during true lunch or dinner time. I ordered delivery food several times from Mcalister's Deli while my husband was hospitalized in Greenville. Several times I enjoyed the max baked potatoes and chef salads. I ordered the 1/2 portions. They were full size portions, delicious and very well prepared. The last evening I ordered Reuben sandwiches and broccoli soup and French dip for my friends and myself. The sandwiches were beautiful and delicious. The soup was awesome. They did not disappoint. The only problem is that delivery must be ordered on the internet. It might slow some folks down but very glad that it didn't me. The delivery folks were kind and courteous. Thank you for comfort food. read more

Arrived during the Friday "lunch rush". This location is considerably larger than the one I go to in Raleigh. Minimum wait time at the counter. When I got to the counter, I was having an issue bringing up the BOGO coupon I was planning to use on their app. The clerk behind the counter got another employee to assist me. Seems they were having internet problems, but he knew how to find the correct code as well as provide my account the points for the purchase. I ordered one item to eat there, and one to go. It was a minimum wait for my order to be brought to my table. While waiting I noticed how efficient the staff was in delivering orders to the table as well as the curbside pickup orders. Firstly I placed 3 orders (for me, my sweet grandson Finley, and my husband Michael Ray Jenkins). Not at all what I expected. First off I ordered my sandwich with out tomatoes, yet it came with it and had hardly any of the honey mustard it was advertised to have. Also, it being a club, it's cut into fourths. Or, two huge cuts and two tiny. A big step up from Panera, but along the same lines. Sandwich and salad options are more plentiful and more inventive. Baked potato entrees are as big as your head, filling a platter. We speculate they are really two potatoes mushed together. The half order is more than enough for a single person. Iced tea features big - and they do know how to do it right. Free refills to-go! I haven't been here in a while and it has definitely gone downhill a lot since the last time I was here. The dining room and the restrooms and the floors were all filthy. The manager didn't seem to know how to manage the cashier staff. There was only one cashier and for some reason she took five minutes to take one order from the people in front of me. After a few minutes later the manager came out and took my order but she had walked by several times while I was standing there. Now that there are no customers in line, there are three cashiers standing at the front waiting for people to come in and order They were not crowded at all no excuse for things call customer service and slowness. Maybe one of them could have been cleaning the place. After waiting for 16 minutes for my order I finally went up to the register and asked about it and it was sitting there waiting. I asked the cashier why no one let me know and she said it was wrong and as a call in order and they were waiting for me to come in. I was sitting in the first table right there the whole time. I went to McAlister in Grenville, NC, yesterday. I brought a whole New Yorker sandwich. I ate the first half with no problem. Then I ate the second half. I put the last bite in my mouth. I had to put my fingers in my mouth to pull a piece of hair out. I did not need the extra protein. It is a good thing I did not get that Spud. I was excited to come here for lunch yesterday but quickly became uneasy while trying to eat. When I arrived everything was clean, the lunch crowd was actually going fast and I was ready for my veggie Spud which was their signature large baked potato with green peppers, onions, black olives and tomato with melted cheese. I also had unsweetened tea. As soon as I placed my order I saw the health score was a B 82.0! I've never seen one so low! I still ate my food and it tasted great, but thankfully whatever caused the score didn't affect me. I loved the fountain and sculptures in the middle which had a plaque stating coins put in the fountain go to the Make a Wish Foundation locally. Naturally I had to find some coins for this. I went to this McAlister's for a work lunch. I think that I spent like $8 for their turkey/honey mustard / pepper jack cheese sandwich. I made my decision because that just seemed like such a bizarre combination of flavors. The place was busy, so I had to wait in line for a while to make my order. The ambiance was almost completely "inspired" by the local university, which is sad because the local university isn't really famous, and doesn't have any sports accomplishments to boast about. It was pretty loud and crowded. The food didn't take long to come out. I made my selection on the basis of thinking Turkey, honey mustard, and pepper jack just being a completely bizarre combination of flavors. I guess it was a masochist order. Sadly, the sandwich was bland and almost flavorless. I could tell that I was ingesting something fatty with lots of grease and cheese, but there was no flavor. I wouldn't go back.
