We had to leave because there was no one to clean any tables. Almost every table had food on it. Only one girl was there to take orders and serve food. She was being so sweet and patient, but the lines were long, and again, no one to clear any tables. It seemed there was only one person in the back to cook too. McAlister's Deli My husband and I ate at the Congaree location this afternoon. He got a French dip sandwich that came with a side. He got the macaroni and cheese and took one bite but did not care for it. I took it back up to the counter and eventually spoke to a manager after the counter help said he could not exchange it. We didn't want them to take the Mac and cheese back, but replace it with another side. We were told no because he took a bite of it. They said they could exchange it if he hadn't. Well that's also a problem if they were going to add back his food to their inventory. Once it left their kitchen and given to the customer, it shouldn't go back! I've never been anywhere that would not let me send a food back and exchange it if there was an issue. Since we couldn't be helped, I'm putting this on this site as I find this a very non-customer forward establishment and not healthy if they are taking food back. read more

While shopping at the mall I decided to stop by for a take out lunch with my niece. She ordered the south west avocado chicken salad and I got an orange cranberry club with a bowl of chicken and dumplings, and a side of potato salad. The sandwich was delicious and so was the potato salad. The chicken and dumplings was tasty too, it had chunks of white meat chicken in it with real dumplings. The dumplings were not gummy and they were cooked all the way through. They could have used some extra seasoning, salt and pepper I added that. Try the lemonade too, it was really good. Was looking for a place to eat a stumbled by the classic McAlister's Deli!! I have been to a few of these and just recently visited the Spartanburg location and liked it so I was excited to try this location. I got the pick 2 with mac n cheese and the McAlister's club sandwhich and it was delious! The staff was very nice and helpful. Food came quick. It was kind of hot inside. Hands down one of the slowest establishments I've ever been to. Don't plan on being here anywhere short of an hour for dine in, or half an hour for online orders. They almost never remember to add a pickle spear to your meal when you request it. The people in the kitchen and behind the counter work at the most relaxed pace and leave orders sitting on the counter for well over 20 minutes at a time. Worst restaurant to order pick up from in Greenville. As a delivery driver, we receive the order notification the same time as the restaurant. Twice in a row I've driven 10-15 mins to the location and arrived at the pickup time, only to walk into an empty building with no customers and the staff hasn't even started the food. I've delivered food from approximately 40-50 restaurants in Greenville, over 3,000 deliveries and myself and others now refuse to go to this location. Poor management. Poor leadership. To McAlister's: Instead of sitting down doing nothing, how about you make to go orders in a timely manner? This is how you lose customers. Just about any place is better. First somebody comes out from behind the counter and says they are not taking any more done in orders because they don't have tables. There are at least 6 empty tables. By the time we get through the line there are more empty tables. She came out and took the trays off the tables that came empty but would not wipe any of them down to provide more seating. It's 12:30 and they are already out of baked potatoes. I hesitate to leave 3 stars. Truth be told, I want to leave 2.5 - but the staff here has been really great! You can fix bad food, but it's tough to find good people. So - bravo on that McAlisters!!!! I had the cranberry turkey sandwich and potato soup. They were ok. The sandwich was drippy and sticky. Presentation on the plate was average. My dining partner got the sweet chipotle chicken sandwich and tortilla soup. I really like the tortilla soup! Great flavor, mildly spicy, a treat to eat!!!! The sandwich was panini bread with some grilled chicken strips and melted cheese. It looked like a mess on the bread. Flavor was nothing spectacular. Definitely a disappointment. I ordered the Savannah Chopped Salad (minus cheese, and with vinagrette) to go. 15 minutes later, they brought it out on a plate. Getting it into a "to go" container took 10 more minutes, and when I got to my destination, I discovered they had put the cheese on anyways and gave me a sticky sweet dressing instead of balsamic vinagrette. And the "Grilled sliced chicken breast"? Hardly...very lunch-meat textured, from the looks of it. $10 for an inedible lunch that wasn't at all what I ordered...boo, McAlister's. My family liked their Reuben sandwich, but I tried branching out to try the "Big Nasty." It was gross. The salad was just ok. And my fam tried their soup, which wasn't very good. The soup (brocolli cheddar) and it was good. The sandwich however was a bit lean on the meat and I did not get any chips with the sandwich like at other McAlisters.
