CAUTION: Go somewhere else! I should've just checked out these reviews before I ordered. My husband & I came to this location because we were invited to join a few couples for food & fellowship following worship this evening. The experience was disappointing. It's been years since I stepped foot into a McAlisters, but today trip made my return highly unlikely. The dining area was littered with discarded food & only a few tables were occupied. My husband ordered to sandwiches and a slice of cheesecake which he thought was just OK. The kicker is the fact that I only ordered a slice of chocolate cake warmed...& was cold!! I think even 2 is generous. It's funny, because I read the reviews and thought that maybe the bad ones were just those people. You know the types, nothing is ever good enough. But im here to say, I'm not a picky dude. This place sucked. Guy at the register had us repeat our orders about 5 times.... Should've been a sign. Then, we got the Southwest Chicken BBQ Salad and it didn't come with half the ingredients listed on the menu. And no dressing. They said the BBQ ranch dressing was "on the meat." I've been they several times for lunch. I found the menu very confusing so I like to build my own. I like the New Yorker but I change the bread and spicy mustard. My job had McAlisters catered for a business lunch today and I had the vegetarian wrap with a garden salad and pickle. Not too shabby for a veggie based sammie- the onions tasted pickled, roasted red peppers, lettuce, tomato, olive and mayo. Others had club sandwiches, chicken salad, turkey and ham and cheese and raves about them. This is my go-to place when traveling on I-75. They have great sandwiches. The service is really good. They try to make sure they get your order correct. I ordered the club on ciabatta bread, an Italian, and a memphian. Everything was so delicious. They even have homemade lemonade that you can add flavors to. The quality is just superb. Went on a Sunday evening. A pile of restaurant trash was stacked near the front door: empty and half empty drink containers, paper trash, etc. Got set to order and noticed at least a half dozen or more customers seated, waiting for their meals. It looked like they've been sitting there a while, even though the place was not that busy. The staff appeared rushed and disorganized, lots of activity but not accomplishing much of anything. I first started eating at McAlister's over 10 years ago in Louisville, KY. At that time, this particular chain was hands down one of the best places to get soup and a sandwich, and giving Panera a real competitor in that particular market. Flash forward to these days and it's easy to see that thus chain has suffered from the usual, run of the mill cheapening that happens with most good culinary concepts as they expand and reach more markets. No one can blame the company for trying to make money, but it is obvious that whatever they were doing before is something that has been abandoned for a more cut corners approach. A few friends had suggested McAlister's, so I figured I would take my parents. It was clean upon entering. The staff at the counter were friendly. I order the French Dip and the Nacho Plate. My parents got a Reuben and a potato and chili. I also had a side of mac and cheese. Okay so my food was great. The prices are rather high though considering the quality of food. Okay the cons! The Nacho cheese was Velveeta cheese and Rotel. Not worth the $7.00 price tag. The chili we ordered was cold. Not just room temp cold, but cold like it just came out of the refrigerator. The Reuben was also cold and not toasted. The chili tasted a lot like Hormel chili. Nothing to rave about. The food was reheated though. However, it would have been nicer to receive all the food hot at the same time. So we ate at 7pm on a Monday. I really thought all of their food was cooked to order. I guess not though. Would give zero stars if I could. Ordered ahead via phone for 2 plain baked potatoes to eat on the road on the way home to FL. Opened potatoes to check before leaving and they were covered in butter cheese and sour cream. Not from the Macon area but we were on a road trip - sleep deprived and starving. Walked in having no idea what to expect. Walked in and was immediately greeted by the manager, Chester. He went over the menu with us and suggested a few items. Got to talking with him and immediately just felt like we were at the right spot. His staff was friendly and attentive. They came over several times to refill our sweet teas because they were SO GOOD. Not to sweet and very refreshing. Restaurant was very clean. The staff at this location have always been very friendly and check on you frequently. Most recently I had the Kale and Parmesan soup paired with a baked potato. Can't say enough about the soup!!! It's creamy, wonderfully done, and only about 150 calories, which I was pleased to see! I love this place. The employees were very nice, I had to be at work at 6, and went to pick up my online order at 5:50 just for us to find out I never pressed check out. I told them not to worry about it and I will come back another time but the guy at the front counter (I sadly never got his name) told me not to worry about it and to order my food and he will bring it down to my job! I love this place but I'm not a big fan of the redo of it. I liked the atmosphere of local sports team jerseys on the wall but now it's just all modern. The food is fantastic and the service is good. I've visited twice in the last month after not having been in months. Ordered a turkey melt and a roast beef horseradish sandwich and was underwhelmed with both. Turkey melt was cold and bland. Tasted no horseradish on the other sandwich. My friends order was messed up. Sides were on the small side. We really love the remodel and the tea is absolutely amazing! My family and I were worried that with the opening of Applebee's down the street it might have taken away from their business a little but it would appear that the reality is the opposite!
