great food during its time
Patti L.

I had a taste for a sub and wanted something different. So I looked on Yelp and found McAlister's. It had good ratings and lots of options. I wanted turkey and chose the spicy turkey melt. It had some good veggies added to the sandwich. Roasted turkey, bacon, pepper jack, avocado, chipotle ranch, spring mix and tomato on toasted baguette. The spring mix was a surprise. I thought it would just be some romaine and iceberg lettuce. But it was a nice handful of a spring mix. It wasn't spicy with the pepper jack or chipotle ranch. The sandwich was delicious abd for a 6" it was filling. I liked the toasted baguette. And since I was eating it in the car, it wasn't as messy as I thought it would be. I will be back to try other things when in the area!!

Slowly trekking towards my quest of 1400 reviews... lol. McAlister's is a solid, underrated quick meal stop! In my mind, their points of difference are: - baked potatoes (5-6 different varieties) readily available as a meal or as part of a pick 2! I like this as an option. - the best value in kids' meal I've ever seen! For $3, you get an entree like pizza, grilled cheese, Mac and cheese, sandwich, or salad, a side (+$0.59 for an upgrade), and a mini chocolate chip cookie. Love it! Oh, Auntie Anne's hot dog bites are an entree option for a 50% premium ($4.58 meal). - 10% off for military or first aid respondents ongoing! I can't remember if teachers are also included in this. - very clean interior. I've been to 3 different locations this year, and all have consistently shown this. Clean tables, floors, bathrooms. Menu has plenty of hot or cold (like club) sandwiches, 8 or so salads, and 4-5 different soup options, along with the aforementioned spuds. My go to is usually the horseradish roast beef sandwich, which comes warm and is a good balance of savory beef, horseradish to open up your nasal passage, crunchy and acidic red onion, and cheddar cheese. Lastly, it's pretty quick and efficient bc you place your order at the register, get a number, and await your food.

Super friendly customer service from a young man name Mello. He gave me a great recommendation which I thoroughly enjoyed. It's refreshing to find someone dedicated to putting a smile on your face.

They are good. I am not a huge fan of sandwiches but when I am in the mood of them, this place has pretty good selections, and I tried their wrap-chicken ceasar one, i liked that too.

Bright, clean, and inviting place with a friendly staff. So far I've tried a couple of their ginormous taters, the Veggie Spud and the Max Spud and they were both good and filled with plenty of tasty ingredients. The McAlister's Club is pretty good too. Prices aren't bad when you consider what you're getting for the money.

I love that McAllister's is there as an alternative to Panera. Whenever me and the wife feel like eating healthy but also something delicious, this place hits the spot. If you're familiar with the pick 2 options at Panera, they over something similar. 1/2 sandwich, salad, soup, OR spud. You cannot go wrong. I love ordering the chicken salad sandwich and chicken salad as my pick two. They always use fresh ingredients and it always comes out consistent. Their lemonade is bar none also. Worthwhile ordering.

BLTA- Very good sandwhich, garlic and herb mayo is amazing, lots of tomatoes kept the sandwhich moist, but the bread was too soft and soaked up all that moisture, could've used more bacon. 6/10 Chicken Tortilla Soup- Lacked flavor, looked like a plastic film around soup, made it feel like it came out of a can, large and chewy chicken chunks. 2/10

My daughter and I stumbled upon McAlister's when we were in the area shopping recently and wanted lunch. We ordered sandwiches for curbside pickup on the app, which was very convenient. Their menu has a good variety of sandwiches, some salads, baked potatoes, soups and sides. They were busy so our order was delayed, but when we got home we realized that our food was worth the wait. We both had the New Yorker sandwich with soup and chips as our sides. Everything was really good. The next time we ordered I went inside for pick up and noted a very cute diner like interior. My family and I enjoyed our meal again so we will be regular customers.

This location is across Milwaukee Avenue from Golf Mill Mall. I always get the giant vegetable potato. I have been to McAlister's in multiple states and the quality is consistent across locations.

I enjoyed the food, just a longer wait time than expected about 20 min ticket time from ordering with few people in the restaurant. Staff was nice and accommodating with different bread selections. The Choose Two option was helpful and cost exactly $10.00, but the sandwich was pretty small. The spud was filling though.

My wife and I came here on Monday evening for a quick meal. The restaurant reminds me of panera. My wife and I both ordered the combo 2. My wife got the jalapeño turkey crunch, and I got the ham and cheese melt. The young lady didn't know that they didn't have the correct type of bread, so the cooks informed her that they could use a different type of bread. That was great, but then we stood there as the young lady didn't know how to enter the sandwich info into the register. We stood at the register for over 5 mins as the young lady was trying to enter everything. We finished the transaction, waited a short period of time, and received our food. The food is slightly salty, but overall, it is good.

My delicious fresh wrap

It came as a great recommendation! We didn't have it for a while since we live the low-carb life but were thrilled to learn they do a "sub in a tub". I love their tuna salad/sub. Their bread is soft, back when I could eat it. They don't overfill it with mayo either and add some mild peppers or hot on request. I like that they don't have onions at the deli so it doesn't overpower everything else. My husband typically loves the club. They rolled a generous amount into a container and I used scissors to quickly and easily cut it. It was a perfect lunch and I have enough for another tomorrow! For $8, or $11 for a generous tuna scoop, you can't beat it. Staff is also quick and friendly at the deli, as well as checkout. I haven't been to the location but have had these bagels consistently for over 10 years. The texture and flavor of the bagel is everything a NY bagel is and should be. Fluffy on the inside, somewhat crispy on the outside, and oh so thiccccccccck! Their cream cheese?! Ugh! Don't skip on it, seriously everything about this place is perfect. My go to selection is the egg bagel with chive cream cheese. It's chef's kiss and hits the spot. EVERY.SINGLE.TIME!!!!

If you're expecting this to be interchangeable with the franchised bagel places that have spread…read moreacross the country, recalibrate now. This is not that. I've been going to New York Bagel & Bialy for over 50 years, and places like this operate on a different clock, a different standard, and frankly, a different philosophy of what a bagel is supposed to be. Timing matters. If you show up after about 8:00 AM, your odds of getting bagels at their absolute peak--still warm, properly textured, with that slight resistance on the outside and softness inside--go up significantly. Earlier can be hit or miss depending on the batch cycle, but once they're in stride, this place delivers. The essentials are all here and worth your time: poppy seed, sesame, everything, and especially the bialys. The bialys alone are reason enough to make the trip--properly done, with the right chew and depth of flavor that you simply won't find in mass-produced versions. Don't overcomplicate it. Grab a dozen. On your way home, stop and pick up a couple packages of Philadelphia Cream Cheese and some smoked salmon a jar of capers, a Bermuda onion--whether here or even from Walmart--and you've got a meal that outperforms most brunch menus at a fraction of the cost. This isn't trendy. It's not trying to be. It's something better: consistent, old-world, and still doing it the right way. If you're going to call something a bagel, the standard is not branding--it's process. That's why New York Bagel & Bialy on Touhy stands apart. They actually do it right: kettle-boiled first, then baked in rotating ovens. That single decision--boiling--changes the entire structure. It gelatinizes the outer starch layer, locks in density, and produces that thin, glossy crust with real chew. Without it, you don't have a bagel--you have bread with a hole. The rotating ovens matter too. They deliver even heat, which means you get the correct balance: a slight exterior crisp with a dense, elastic interior. No puffiness. No sponge. No collapse under toppings. That's the difference here. Most chains optimize for speed and shelf life, so they steam or shortcut the process. Many local shops land in the middle. This place doesn't compromise. If you care about what a bagel is supposed to be--not just what it's called--this is the benchmark in Chicago.

The woman behind the counter was so rude answering my questions about the sausages and the pork. My questions were as simple as are they garlicky or ready to eat, instead of if I have to cook it first. so rude to a point she threw the sausages and meat on the counter, not at me. ( All of this were in their surveillance cameras). I was pissed to say the least so I told the cashier that she was acting like a bitch to me. He is a young man understand English perfectly what I was saying but the older guy came to the front the back and tried to intimidate be and telling me "be careful" over and over v Maybe a language problem, but I took it as a threat so I asked the cashier what is the guy meant by "be careful" to me. The casher didn't answer me but they were speaking to each other in polish and something like they called the police. So I have no choice but to protect my self, I had to stay there until the police came. I had to called 911 too to make sure my side is explained. NOW is MORE of my problem/dilemmas. Two police officers who last name Ki or ski showed up and I explained my side to one of them and they said I was angry and need to bring it down a notch. They took down my ID and put down their story at their discretion. One talked to me in English and the other one talk to the people inside and claimed to watched the video. I don't want you to read into anything like they read in to and perceives me as a problem because I was pissed of the woman and being told "be careful " But if you read into their last names like they read into me, you can imagine how they communicated in the languages they spoke and which side of the story they obviously took despite the establishment's surveillance video. For a 24 years US Navy veteran like me with 16 years civil service for 40 years total National Service, its almost like no whistle/no foul. But I felt this establishment is a total f-you for any Americans. To two police officers who were also polish and not being transparent to me is a sad state of affairs for city of Niles and America. The Niles motto used to be "where people counts". Not so much now. I don't even know if there was a police report or if I would be trespassed. Either way, be warned to visit this place unless you are polish. I could return the merchandise and ask for refunds but I didn't want to go back in and deal with them once the police were called.
