This is one of my favorite restaurants. Tonight I ordered the two half portions and chose the 12 Turkey Cranberry Salad and 1/2 Cobb Club sandwich. I highly recommend both of these and can't wait to go back again. Also LOVE the mac and cheese and potato salad. Clean. Quick, large variety in selections offered but the portions are laughable for the price. My husband ordered a chicken salad sandwich and it was on a small croissant and he was charged over $6. I expected (and paid for) a jumbo sized croissant for the price! His side was potato chips and tea and paid over $10. Waste of money. The tea was supposed to be a berry flavor but tasted strictly like tea. I ordered a berry flavored lemonade and didn't taste one bit like berry. I'll go across the street to Chilis and get a better meal for the price. read more

I travel to Peoria quite often and I usually eat at McAlister's deli while I am here.... I look up website and it says they are open from 10:30 am to 10 pm. I call to place a to go order and they answered and said they were closed this was at 8:33pm.... if you are going to close early then you need to tak!e the time and update your website read more

Hate it when you go through a drive-through and don't end up with what you want. Asked for salad w/o cheese - didn't happen. Ugh.

This place is excellent. Everything we ordered tastes fantastic. They have an amazing variety. I had the salad with the strawberries in it and it was great. My boyfriend had a big nasty sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. Totally recommend this place if you are trying to eat on the healthier side. read more

Our first visit to this deli. Seemed similar to Panera Bread but many more menu choices. I was set to try the Reuben when the lady in front of me suggested the Savannah salad - excellent! My husband had the smoked turkey w/pepper jack cheese, also delicious. Anxious to get back again to try something different and probably will raise the rating to 5* read more

Food is great to ok depending on what you get. Service in drive thru is terribly slow even when you call in.

McAlister's Deli may look like your typical soup and sandwich restaurant, but the food made behind the scenes here makes it stand out from any other deli. The relaxed pay and pick your own seat setting, make this the perfect restaurant to have on a college campus. Located on Illinois State University's campus, I have had the pleasure of visiting McAlister's Deli on multiple occasions for a quick lunch or dinner. McAlister's Deli is open Monday through Saturday, and inconveniently closed on Sundays. One of the things that makes McAlister's very informal is the fact that you wait in line to order like you would at a fast food restaurant. When you walk up toward the counter you can see all their options of food to order from on the front wall about the cashiers. They have a wide variety of foods from soups and salads to sandwiches and spuds. All the prices are listed next to the food on the menu. They range from about four to seven dollars and you should expect to spend about ten dollars there in total depending how hungry you are, you may spend a little more. Once I walked up to the counter to order, the first thing the cashier asked was if i was dinning in or if my food was to go. I told her I was planning to eat there and she gave me a number to put on my table. Then I ordered a bowl of broccoli cheddar soup and an Italian chopped salad. Since McAlister's is located in the Bone Student Center at Illinois State University, it is nice that they accept flex dollars from the students. That way the college students do not feel guilty eating out and spending money because it is part of their meal plan. At McAlister's they have an option to choose two entries for the price of one and they give you smaller portions of each. This is usually what I get when I eat at McAlister's, but they have so many other options to choose from if you are not a soup and salad type person like me. I have heard great things about their sandwiches and also their spuds, which are the size of two large potatoes put together to make one enormous one. No matter what you have a taste for, you can find it at McAlister's Deli. After I ordered my food, the cashier prepared my drink, which was McAlister's famous sweet tea. I get their sweet tea every time I eat there and I never get tired of it. It is just sweet enough to tingle your taste buds and the lemon they add makes for a perfect combination of sweet and sour. Once I had my sweet tea in hand, I waited for the rest of my group to order and then we chose a table where ever we wanted to sit. That is a nice aspect of McAlister's, you don't have to wait to be seated, and you can do it yourself. We found a table that was perfect for the four of us on the right hand side of the restaurant. So, once you get comfortable in your seat, you do what you would do in any restaurant, wait for your food. It's nice that McAlister's allows you to order your food as soon as you come in and seat yourself, but they make sure you are not standing around for your food. They bring it to you hot out of the over. There are two things about McAlister's that I do not like. Because of the fact that you order then, go and sit and wait for your food to be delivered, there are waiters and waitresses walking around constantly, looking at your table to see if they are carrying your plate. However, every time they walk past I felt like they were teasing me with food that looked like it could be mine. Aside from that, there is one more flaw that I have found in McAlister's. Since everyone at the table you are sitting at ordered during the same time period, but at different times, one person always gets their food before everyone else. I was that person when I went to McAlister's with my friends and I was not sure if I should wait for everyone else to get their food because I did not want to be rude. But at the same time I did not want my delicious broccoli cheddar soup getting cold. The lapse in time between meal arrivals is something I don't like about McAlister's. Just how someone is the first one to get their food and wait for the rest. There is usually one person sitting at the table with out their food just watching everyone else eat. This awkward delay is definitely a flaw in the system at McAlister's. After going there with my friends on multiple occasions, we now make a joke out of who will get their food first so we can all watch them eat, and who will get their food at the very last second when the rest of us are almost done. These two details about McAlister's are not big enough to make me not want to eat there, they are just little things that I noticed while eating there that kind of bothered me. read more

They have healthy options as well as heartier options. McAlister's Deli menu is made up of six sections, including salads, sandwiches, spuds, and soups. With over twenty major menu items there is something for everyone here. There are options for meat lovers, like THE BIG NASTY®., or SPUD MAX™.But for those who are looking for non-meat items there are many options that are available for them too. I personally do not eat red meat so to have a options that included chicken, and no meat at all was very refreshing for me. It also has made me a repeat customer. Being a repeat customer I have been able to try multiple menu items. My first visit I had the FOUR CHEESE GRILLER. It comes with a side pickle and one side. For sides one can has the option to choice between Chips, Potato Salad, Fruit Cup, Applesauce, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy or Macaroni & Cheese. I had SunChips as my side this first night because I had a salty craving. During my next visit I had a BREAD BOWL with Broccoli Cheddar Soup. The visit after that I had a CAESAR SALAD, and on my last visit I combined previous orders by having the TWO HALF PORTIONS and had both a cup of Broccoli Cheddar soup and the FOUR CHEESE GRILLER. I personally found the last option to be the best for me for the simple fact that I was able to have my two favorite items at the same time. All the menu items I have had have been very good. Out of all my visits to McAlister's Deli I have not been disappointed, and have had consistently good food served to me. The Broccoli Cheddar soup is very creamy, but they still keep some of the broccoli's integrity by keeping some smaller broccoli pieces in the soup. There is also not an overwhelming amount of cheddar in the soup, so you will be able to taste all the flavors happening in the soup, and not be left unsatisfied. As for the FOUR CHEESE GRILLER, it has been give a name that describes it perfectly. This spin off of a classic grilled cheese sandwich combines good bread with two slices of tomato, and four different kinds of cheeses. It is definitely southern comfort food, but still light enough to fit a healthy lifestyle, if you can call four kinds of cheese and bread healthy. Unfortunately, the salad was the real disappointment of all my meals. It was not bad by any means, but the dressing was a little too thick for my personal liking. All the other components of the salad were very good though, and I was left full at the end of my meal. Besides great food McAlister's Deli offers great drink options as well. No deli could call themselves "southern" without tea options on the menu. McAlister's Deli is most well known for their Sweet Tea. It is a southern staple that is done right. They put a lemon in with your tea too, for added presentation. Their portion sizes for drinks are very generous as well. If you dine in they also offer free refills on both their teas, and any of the fountain drinks they offer. And if sweet tea is not your cup of tea, they also have a house lemonade you can order. Along with great food McAlister's Deli offers a great experience. Because it is locate on a college campus it is set up in a fast-casual restaurant way. There is a line to a front counter where you order, and if you choose to dine-in the cashier will give you a number, and from their you pick where to sit. A server will bring your food to the table. Then at the end of the meal you can leave your plates at the table, and a server will come take them away. If you do not have time to sit down and eat then you have a carryout option. You simply give them your name, and wait near the counter and a server will bring your food to you in a bag and box instead of on a plate. read more
