My Home warranty company sent McAtee to my house to follow up on an exterior water leak. Bradley did an EXCELLENT job and took his time to diagnose the issue and test for a leak in several ways....checking psi in several places, and also looking for excess water as we supposedly were losing 21 to 29 gal.s per hour!!! He determined it must be a faulty meter, and provided documentation to take to the county and advised me what steps to take. I had a previous company to come out and they jumped quickly to saying I needed a new line at a BIG expense! Bradley listened to my concerns and patiently answered my questions and showed me step by step how he was diagnosing the issue before concluding it was the meter. When they came out after this month, they informed me they couldn't do the work due to a retaining wall - this wall has been there for years. I could have had alterations done if they had been professional and communicated this need. I reached out to this company for plumbing work and was very disappointed with the experience. They required me to cut out the wall myself before they would come, but as a customer, I have no way of knowing where the pipe is. A plumber should handle that part of the job. They demanded full payment up front before even scheduling the work, which is not standard practice and made me uncomfortable. No warranty was offered on the work. The $955 estimate had no itemized breakdown to justify the cost. Communication was poor -- it took four days and multiple requests to even receive a written estimate. Because of these issues, I decided not to move forward. I would recommend finding a plumber who offers clearer communication, transparent pricing, and standard payment/warranty terms. read more

This is important to note because these warranty companies don't do ANY research on these companies, so it falls to the customer to look up these companies/ do research on their own. This company is NOT BBB accredited for heating, air conditioning, or plumbing. This company has numerous complaints and verified reviews from customers noting things such as unprofessionalism, poor workmanship and incompetence, lack of communication, and overcharging. Also, I verified that once they are assigned, they give the customer a date for their technician to come to the location - these availabilities are no less than 3 weeks to a month out from the phone call. ONLY after the date is agreed upon they tell the customer that they will have to pay the contract deductible within 24 hours just to hold the appointment. Through our home warranty agreements - we are required to provide payment upon the contractors arrival to the location and work commencement/completion- NOT to get an appointment. They also tell the customer that they will need to send them a link to a payment portal in order for them to provide the payment. This seems quite nefarious and sketchy for a business to do. If you get this company assigned to your work order, call your warranty company and request that it be reassigned to ANY other contractor. read more

Had them come out, and check my boiler. No heat, on the first floor. The service tech found that I had an obstruction in the vent pipe. He removed the 2 dead birds, and the co2 levels dropped. I wasn't aware that the levels were high, my alarms never went off. First problem solved. Then he told me, that it might be an airlock, in the system. Went out to his truck, made a few phone calls, and came back and told me, that I needed a new pump. OK. He went back out to his truck, to see about getting a pump. So I thought. Looked back out in the driveway, about ten minutes later, and he was gone. No update on the pump, nothing. Just gone. Got a call from Homeserve, about ten minutes later, telling me that they don't do that repair. What the hell He couldn't of told me that himself. read more

I placed a service request through HomeServe to repair my HVAC. The heat was not working properly. (The heat will turn on for about an hour then the air will blow cool. Eventually hot air will blow again) They assigned me to McAtee. The representative contacted me and sent a repairman on Nov. 19, 2024. After a few minutes of looking, the repairman stated that the damper switch was not opening, it is not covered through Homeserve and the cost would be $500. I signed forms through an app on his phone and he assured me that I would be emailed a copy of the forms. They were NOT emailed at that time. At that visit, I thanked him for the estimate and I told him that I would be calling in the future to repair. On December 6, 2024, I called the main number at (803)602-3365 to get the written estimate from the company and possibly schedule an appointment. My call was returned by "THEO" but showed up on my caller ID as C. Haynes last 4 digits 9400. At this call, the repairman had my previous information and I was given another verbal quote of $600 for the same job and that it must be paid CASH on the spot. He knew the weather was getting down to 22 degrees that night, this was a family, and there was a great need. I stated that I needed a WRITTEN estimate. We have not had air since eight July 4 night and it is now July 6 website states that they are available 24 seven I have called several times and finally just got through to a lady who says that Somebody will answer the phone 24 seven but no service is provided 24 seven my husband and I are both disabled and he is on oxygen this company so far is on my bad side. McAtee responded to repair plumbing problems created by a previous contractor. Both sent by warranty company. After fussing with original contractor for weeks, warranty company finally sent McAtee to complete and repair errors by first contractor. Willie, of McAtee, texted when he would arrive, arrived on time, and went right to work. He made the repairs, correcting errors by other company, and came in and checked every faucet and toilet, as well as the refrigerator to make sure water was running correctly. He wore booties on his feet since the crawlspace was damp, and even swept up the sawdust where he made a larger hole for the refrigerator water line. Great service! read more

I wish I could give them a big, fat "O". Darius came out on February 3, 2025 to do a furnace check and check my fallen duct work. He was so pleasant and professional that I had no problem with him telling me someone would give me a quote to put my duct work back up. Judging from him, I assumed the company would be great. Then the nightmare began. They never called me so I tried calling them and for 3 days straight from 7:30am to 5;00pm they said all representatives were busy and leave my name and number. She never called me back and today I get an email to sign an invoice dated February 6, 2025 that was email to me on February 10.2025 to sign the invoice. What the hell was she doing for 4 days!!! Now here I am with fallen duct work heating my basement all that time. On February 6, 2025, I called another company who had the duct work up in one day on February 7, 2025. Your company has a serious problem with Hailey's unprofessionalism and lack of following through with a project and your representatives have a serious problem answering the phones. McAtee sent a tech, Coleman, why analyzed the problem, told me what it could be and went through different scenarios and what the possible solutions would be. This company started good, and courteous. I had a furnace installed on 10/23/23. Everything stated good and then this month, I had a issue so I called them out. They sent someone out, he was very courteous. I stated to him that it was under warranty, it was not even a year old. He put the work order in and when it came time to honor it, they told my I had to pay the service call and repair of the part. What happended to first year everything was covered. This company is horrible. I was working with Brett in VA. His HVAC technician came out because our air conditioner unit was not cooling. We have a warranty through our provider Dominion and they sent us someone from Mcatee. This is where my nightmare begins. The technician said we had to much Freon and pulled some out and charged us $150. It was still not cooling so Dominion has a different company who came out and they said we did not have enough Freon so we were charged $267. Now I was really upset and and called and spoke to Brett at Mcatee. He said he would first reimburse me my $150 and then the $267 because I wouldn't have had to pay that if the Freon wasn't pulled out in the first place. I got the $150 but am still waiting for the $267. I have left 4 messages but he has not returned my calls so at this point I know he is ignoring my calls. I would stear clear of this company as they have techs who don't know what they are doing. If you are looking to save money trust me you will pay more because they don't have a clue what they are doing. They don't stand behind their work/mistakes and you are left with the bills. We had a horrible experience out of Spartanburg, SC. Our work is incomplete and we are looking for another plumbing company. The technician pulls up in a smashed up white van, that should have been my first warning. After two visits he left the job incomplete and asked my husband to finish the work behind him, then never returned our calls and text messages. After two months and four visits I told him he is not allowed back at our home. We have incomplete work, and the company has no solution to resolve the issue because this is their only tech in SC. The first person they sent to fix my heating system, removed the WiFi connected thermostat and he installed a thermostat that was not WiFi enabled. I told him I needed one that was WiFi connected. He was visibly, extremely annoyed. After a lot of drama, He went to get one that was, and installed it. A couple of hours after he left, the heater started blowing cold air and I couldn't turn the unit off. I called the company and they couldn't send anyone the following day but had availability for the day after. My unit ran constantly for two days, blowing cold air and I had to buy extra heaters to stay warm. Finally, two days later, a competent person came and finally, fixed the problem, which was the way the original guy installed the thermostat. I complained to the the company about the exorbitant cost of their incompetent original technician on my finances and they wanted me to put in another service call with HomeServe so they can come see what the problem was. At this point, the problem was fixed by the second technician so there was no problem to fix. They just wanted to charge for another service call. Because of their incompetent technician, my light bill will be extremely high and the company has done nothing to reassure me that they will be willing to help with THIS problem but want me to place another service call so they can make more money for a problem that was corrected by the second technician. Make this make sense!!!!!!! I will be telling HomeServe not to send this company to my house for any future service calls because they are not reliable and do not stand behind their work. After this review, the business blamed me for using additional heating sources for the spike in power usage but the fact that the unit was constantly running, blowing cold air and I couldn't turn it off, was not a factor. First American warranty company sent them out due to leaking drain pipes in the basement that flex seal did not fix. All the tech could say was "oh my God" over and over and that it had been going on for more than a week; well of course it had because it over two weeks before they could even come out. He took his flashlight and shone it one the pipes and left boo-hooing about it. The least he could have done is say he didn't want to fix it by replacing pipes but instead told the warranty company that we altered the pipes ( which are original from the early 60s) in an unsafe manner so that made the warranty company say it wasn't covered. If I could give negative stars I would. McAtee appears to be the main plumbing provider for my home warranty company. I have had the unfortunate experience to have the come to my home to fix 3 repairs now. The first, about a year ago, was to my exterior water line. Took almost a week because they did no have a pump to remove the water from the hole and had to wait for it to drain. Sadly, the same leak, in the same spot, happened again 3 month later. Then this spring I had issues with my sewer line and only needed to have my toilet snaked. They refused to snake my toilet, instead dug up one cover on my septic and said it was full and I needed to have it pumped. I told them it was done less than 3 years ago and the 2 men said it was common for them to fill up so quickly with all the rain we have been having. (I have a good sized leech field). So I called a septic company and they came out and there was really nothing to pump and come to find out, the line was just clogged, imagine that?!?! But this last time takes the cake. They came out last Thursday to fix a leak in my crawl space. They were here for less than 10 minutes. The young man left without checking things inside and not saying much. I went to use my sink to have brown water come out with very little water pressure. I immediately called McAtee and as usual, got their voice mail. I then called my home warranty company who managed to get ahold of them. I explained to McAtee I did not have use of my kitchen sink, downstairs bath or my shower, but other things were working. They sent their technician out who came into look at the water pressure. He first told me, the pressure looked fine and then said, to my face, he believes I am lying and this is a pre-existing condition and he excused himself to call his company. If this was a pre-existing condition, why wouldn't I have had my warranty company fix this too?!?! He refused to go and look at the "work" he did and although I tried to explain the facts to him, he said I was being confrontational and argumentative. But I guess that is how some people feel when you call out their shoddy work. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They do not stand behind their work, are rarely on time, very difficult to get ahold of directly and have always done it wrong with the issues they have worked on for me. read more

McAtee and First American Home Warranty is an unethical business. They are taking advantage of people financially. They do not give potential consumers upfront pricing or enough information about how they will manage your claims to make a well-informed decision. The technician diagnosed the problem, and I had him walk me through the problem by showing and talking me through the issue. He asked that I sign his invoice, and he would let me know when the part would be ready to repair. The contract company sent us a text message to request an additional $430 before they would complete the work. When I inquired about the payment before service. I was told First American does not want to repair the item but instead replace it. The company explained the additional costs are due to the modification they will need to do to install a replacement. I explained the technician did not properly assess the area or space that they were saying needs modified. After several calls back and forth to the technician and First American, the technician said it is a standard fee they charge everyone. First American advised me to ask the contractor to reduce their price because they covered the replacement and city permits. They initially requested the deductible for service and said everything was covered. Then we were notified via text we had 24 hours to pay an additional $430 to get the service completed. Now we were told it is a standard fee. Taking advantage of people in a time of need has been common practice. read more

Unfortunately, we found out our home warranty did not cover this repair but since the McAtee plumber was already at the property we decided to have them to the work. I rarely give 1 star reviews, and I wouldn't have bothered but please beware of this company. We had to deal with this company through Home Warranty, they outsource their work for any jobs that are assigned out of their home state. This might be why they are so incompetent, but Frank is a total unprofessional liar and this company should definitely not be used at all costs due to their dishonest business practices and fraudulent billing. They have probably been doing this for years, there is probably just cause for a class action lawsuit with how much additional money they have been able to get suckered out of people that do not question their charges. We had in excess of $700 in out of pocket costs on top of what the home warranty company was going to cover for a replacement of a basic hot water heater. The home warranty company does not provide the pricing breakdown, upon calling this company...they refuse to give their price breakdown in the form of email. This should be a red flag #1. They also have girls that work in the dispatch office that have zero customer service skills, maybe they are related to Frank because I saw a common thread there with lack of personality. Once we finally got some verbal breakdown of charges, we realized they are overinflated for bogus inflated permit charges and a disposal fee. Frank immediately blamed his contractor for not putting the correct charges down, that is red flag #2 which shows **** poor management when someone blames a tech for their shortcomings and gets antagonistic for being called out for it and the lack of accountability within a shadily run organization. These were confirmed as bogus charges because we were able to get reassigned to a different company that charged about 1/3 of what they were trying to charge for the exact work that was to be done. Frank and his company are so horrible, that the home warranty company refunded us back our service fee which is pretty much unheard of with these types of places and filed a complaint against him. Then Tues. got a call from Dawn again saying they (McAtee) needs Jason on Tues. & that Wed will be for sure. (ok, at this point I'm kind a nervous because I need my shop to be open)...Wed. morning Dawn calls again, now she's being ridiculous saying that "I promise you Jason will be yours all day Thursday & Friday"...I told her it is what it is but I'm not happy about it. So, Thurs. late morning got a call from Dawn....now she says Jason is no longer with the company...she says"Work with me & I'll try to get you another plumber by next week." Well, end of the day no phone calls what so ever. Bottom line this company wasted my time and I would respect it if they told me earlier so I could move on to another plumber company. luckily last minute I found an amazing plumber that respect my time and have the decency to be upfront if he couldn't do something.
