Been coming here for more than 20 years including this afternoon and ALWAYS the absolute BEST cornbeef!!!! Gabe setup our reservation for 8 and Katy (sp?) our server was most welcoming even though our reservation apparently wasn't passed on as she immediately set up our table and took care of our drink orders which arrived post-haste. As our group included family from D.C. it was with much pride and praise we set them up for a "McBob's" experience" and nobody was disappointed in the least!!! Our server really is what reassurred us that McBob's is still THE place tp go for cornbeef in SE Wisconsin - especially after we read some of the reviews since the change in ownership. Food is amazing- love going for the Reuben and fish fry (gluten free)! Ambiance is mixed depending on those dining in. I like the decor though, lots of interesting cultural items to look at. Service is pretty good as all staff contributes. Our server even made up for a delayed order with a comped drink and it has never happened since. Glad I can enjoy this local spot. read more

A group of 6 of us went on a Friday night and we're all thrilled with both our food and the service. My Rueben was the best corn beef I've had at any restaurant in Milwaukee. I loved the mustard / kraut sauce instead of thousand island dressing. My wife had the blackened salmon and it was cooked to perfection. She also loved the spinach and potato pancake. Our server had the patience of a saint. It's great when a young person knows how to go with the flow with 6 seniors who have trouble hearing and can't make their minds up. We'll be back. read more

Unfortunately, went from best to worse. Some of the staff appeared to be high. I can't comment on how the food was because we were the first to sit down in an empty restaurant (not the bar) and a table of 3 who ordered 10 minutes after us got their food first. Then the place filled up and more people were eating before us. No one came to check on us after our drinks were given. Finally. a worker came over and asked how our meal was and we informed him that we never got our food. He said he would go to check on it and went behind the bar instead. Was in Wisconsin for a quick trip and was craving some corned beef. Our cousin suggested McBob's and boy oh boy was it fantastic! We even went back two days later for some more! My husband got the Rueben sandwich & I got the corned beef meal with mashed potatoes & sautéed spinach! The real star is the thick & tender corned beef! From the moment my close friend and I walked in it was a friendly social atmosphere. It wasn't too crowded or too loud. Great food and drinks accompanied by welcoming service. We sat at the bar and the GM named Rico served us. His level of hospitality was greatly appreciated and transcended all expectations I've ever held for a bar/pub. I finally made it to McBobs. I knew this place based on a few good friends who rave about the CORNED BEEF Reuben sandwich. I'm not a fan of this delicacy. Salty, cheesy, fresh, hot, tender meat in a buttery toasted rye bread. The breakfast has a reputation that's very good.. as well but, I'm not a fan of waking up in the morning. Lunch starts at 11:00. So I missed out my buddy JB who isn't a Yelper really enjoyed his meal. Customers and staff are all friendly. Came to this bar. To watch some of the Badger game. Saturday. The staff here really hustles to take care of their tables and drinks. I had a $6.00 bloody with the garnish of sausage pickle olive cheese. I hadn't eaten here for a little over a year. We ordered for pickup tonight, 2 Ruben's one with fries, one with chips. First, it's a bag of crappy chips or 8 wedge fries with an $18 sandwich. The $10.99 Corned beef hash with two eggs over easy and Irish Soda bread with bacon toast was ample-- all piled on a plate like a farmer's breakfast. Sorry to say that new ownership is struggling here. Party of 6 on a Saturday night about 7:30pm, used to walking into a crowded, lively place, just a handful of occupied tables and a few people at the bar. Initially got a nice greeting and placed drink orders promptly. Drinks took a while and were not good, watered down old fashioned's, couldn't taste the booze and hardly any ice. After inquiring with the bartender, he gave us an additional shot for the drinks but also said new owners had them cutting down on the pours to ave money. And yes, we were charged for the extra shots. Food order placed and came out in a reasonable time, delivered by someone from the kitchen. Food was still pretty good, but noticed that my Reuben was made with a processed Swiss cheese, not the real deal, more cost cutting measures? There was no music on, instead the tv sound of a random basketball game that no one was really watching. Server was totally inattentive, we had to ask for the bill two times then go up to the bar to actually get it and pay. 18% automatic gratuity, but not disclosed until after the card was run, would not have tipped that much based on the level of service that was received. There's not a whole lot to be said about McBob's. It's a neighborhood dive bar. They have a decent selection of beers and a couple of TVs. Of note is there specialty corned beef. Not the kosher sliced kind it's the Irish chunky kind and it is probably the best I've ever had. Don't expect much in the way of presentation but it tastes great and priced right. read more

I've got a new "Best Reuben in Town" and it's here at McBobs. I've heard about their corned beef for a while and finally made it to give it a try and it's as good as everyone said it was. This Reuben was phenomenal. Generous meat, but not so much you pop your jaw trying to eat it as some places do, perfect amount of kraut and cheese with the marble rye grilled to perfection, simply amazing. There's a top three in my opinion for corned beef in the area with Jake's Corned Beef sandwich and Benji's Gonzo rounding out the top, but for the straight up Reuben, this is the spot! read more

Started with the Irish spring rolls. Corned beef, swiss cheese sauerkraut rolled in a flour tortilla. Delicious! the flakiness of the tortilla was perfect. We then ordered the Farmer's Dinner. Slow cooked corned beef, with fries, sautéed spinach and onions The best Corned Beef I've ever had. Practically melts in your mouth. If you love corned beef, you have to check this place out. Went last night (3/15) for dinner with my son & daughter-in-law. First of all, a Friday in Lent. Second, the Friday of St. Patrick's weekend. I TRIED to call for a reservation all afternoon but it would ring 2-3 times and hang up. Waited over an hour for a table and prolly about the same for our food (got there around 5:20 & left around 8:50!) ... but it was WELL worth it! I had the Reuben (as did my son) while DIL had corned beef hash. The corned beef was delectable... unctuous and salty and SOOOOO good! I could only eat 1/2 my sandwich last night becuz the corned beef was piled so high. And the other 1/2 of the sandwich was almost as good today when I had the leftovers for lunch. Yes it was a long wait and yes a bit pricey for a sandwich... but it was delicious and I got 2 meals out of it! read more

Bomb digggggity reuben. The corned beef was so moisty, juicy and tender. Iove that they serve it kind of shredded/chunk rather than in slices so it is easy to take a bite from. I think they could add a little more of the mustard sauce and saurkraut for my liking. We have been going to McBob's for over a decade. I have always gone for the Reuben sandwiches, agreeing with Milwaukee Magazine readers who voted it the best Reuben in Milwaukee, which the restaurant proudly has next to it on the menu. Today, it did not live up to its reputation. The corned beef was still the best I have every tasted. But, unlike stated on the menu, there was no sauerkraut, and the cheese was a very thin slice of tasteless white processed cheese, not real Swiss. Prices have gone up everywhere, but I was willing to pay $16 for my Reuben sandwich. I could have paid several dollars less for the corned beef sandwich, because except for the thin slice of processed cheese, that's all it was. However, the bread was not marbled rye as stated on menu, and I wouldn't have gotten that with the plain corned beef sandwich, either. I told my complaints to our server and he said he would tell someone. But rather than an adjustment on the bill, there was an extra $5 charge ! ("A mistake.") And, a 18% tip was already added on, which is ok, but the server should have said something. The Bloody Mary looked amazing, with yummy extras like thick cheese swirls, but stingy on the vodka. At least there was a chaser. We will probably still go back, because in general, the food is very well prepared, and we can deal with mistakes on the bill. But its Reuben sandwich is definitely not Milwaukee's Best, not when it doesn't have the required ingredients of real Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and marble rye. read more

The atmosphere is nice. My big complaint - terrible service. It was the middle of the afternoon, so the place wasn't very busy. Still, we waited about 15 minutes for the beers we ordered, only to find out that they were out of Guinness. We would have mentioned the temperature of the sandwiches to our server if we had seen him again. Instead, over half an hour after we finished eating, we had to flag down another employee to beg for our bill. Ten minutes after that, our server emerged with our bill and informed us that there is an automatic 18% gratuity. 18% for being tortured and causing us both to be late getting back to work. Food is good. Extremely disappointed with the service. Not only was the waitress unattentive, but did not mention that refills were not free. Also didn't mention that there is an automatic tip factored into the bill. So my 12 year old and I had 5 soda charges, and left a tip on top of the tip that was pre-charged. I only found out about the double-tip after my wife told me about it (she wasn't with us). Apparently it's hidden on the back of the menu, which we never needed because we came for the specials. We had last been here five+ years ago and had a positive experience. -Very apparent that the server had little interest in being there. Asked what beers they had, she did not know and there was no listing on the menu. -The appetizer we ordered (panko crusted chicken tenders) took 40+ minutes (with six other people in the establishment--two at the bar.) -The Reuben sandwich was $16 (formerly $11), was soggy and the edges of the corned beef were cold. Craved the corn beef sandwich last week so I drove over around lunch time. Checked in on yelp and received a free tap beer with my sandwich which was nice. The Reuben is awesome!!!!! The best I have had anywhere. Jake's not even close brother. The horseradish mustard they add puts it over the top for me. Happened to also speak with the owner that day who was a really friendly guy. He made our experience nice. Other staff on this occasion were also very friendly and professional not like other times. I grabbed a meal at McBob's pub twice this week. The food was fantastic both times. I ate my first meal, was alone at the bar, where my server, Erin, engaged in conversation even though she was quite busy. She's a good multitasker! The Sriracha BLT wrap blew me away! The bacon was crisp, the tomatoes fresh and juicy, and the Sriracha sauce, with a spicy kick, left my mouth watering for more! Erin claimed it's her favorite entre and she adds avocado. Good call, Erin! Next time. My second meal, on Good Friday, was with my son who blew off Catholic convention and ordered the never fail to please Black and Blue burger with an over easy egg. I ordered the deep fried Cod sandwich. I'm usually leary of limp soggy fish sandwiches, but I wasn't hungry enough for the full fish fry. This sandwich was the best I've ever had. The fish was firm and fresh, lightly battered and cooked to a perfect golden hue. Every bite held the slight sound of a pallet pleasing "crunch". Topped with a creamy, well blended tarter sauce that didn't sog out the bun, I wanted another one! But I was too full after finishing the well sized and crispy on the outside American Fried Potatoes.
