Finally got to try this place after always driving past and overall, the food was just okay! It's nice that they have a second floor for dining, it was definitely much quieter (came on a Friday night!). Very cozy and warm inside which was what we were looking for because of the cold. We ordered the fish fry and chili and chili was very underwhelming. Not much flavor, it's housemade and came out a bit cold! I generally prefer my chili with more depth im flavor for sure. Cheese and Sourcream are extra too so it definitely made it not worth it to me in the end. Fish fry was decent! I liked the crispyness of the fries and fish, definitely didnt miss with that. But like I said, overall, food wasnt that impressive. My mom had ordered an old fashion too and I'm sure they thought they were doing her a favor with making it strong but she couldnt even finish it. The service was absolutely the worst, and my burger was overcooked and dry when it did arrive. The problem was that we waited almost 45 minutes for food, so instead of a relaxing meal, we had 10 mins to gobble down the food before our movie. We told the waitress 30 minutes into the wait, and her response was that we were next in line, but in that extra 15 mins there was no food that was being served anywhere. Obviously there was a problem getting food out. It was the first and last time we will eat there. read more

I had the best hotdog here! My mom and I are members of MKE Film and Hooligan's is always the best before/after stop. The Reuben rolls on our previous visit were delicious however our mouths were watering at the neighboring person's hotdog. I had them add cheese to my dog, it was so good. They aren't the speediest with food but it is worth the wait. They have a great happy hour special. My mom's drink of choice is a vodka gimlet, $4 on HH and $6 normally. I always really enjoy trying what they have on special. I enjoyed Side Dish from Boulevard Brewing for $3.50. Staff here are great. Always friendly. They even moved some bar stools around for us so I didn't have to stand. Looking forward to coming back next month. read more

We came to Hooligan's, my brothers pick! He went to UWM and this was one of his favorite local spots. Great food, bar atmosphere, right in the middle if the city. Everything we got was delicious... Enjoyed the meal and drinks. The bartenders really seem to work hard to keep you happy, and they do it all with a smile. Overall it's a chill and friendly atmosphere. There was one minor problem, though. This sweaty, heavy-set man kept playing footsie with me at the bar. I asked him to stop, but he giggled and kept at it. I looked at the bartender and she just shrugged. I got the impression that she was used to this person's behavior. I went to the bathroom before I left, and he followed me right in. The weird part was, his pants and underwear were already down by his ankles when he came stumbling in behind me. So the entire bar must have seen him expose himself on his way over. Anyway, he forced himself onto me but fortunately he wasn't very strong. I shoved him off me into a stall. While whimpering, he closed and locked the stall door. I think his name was Patrick. Hooligan's is an old standby in my neighborhood. They have drinks, they have food. And it's a cozy place with reasonable prices. It reminds me of a sports bar mixed with an old timey pub. It's been awhile but I'm not a huge fan of their fish fry, it was a bit greasy for me. I like their veggie burger and the West Coast Wrap, always get the tots for $1 more. So good and crispy. Recently I had the Caprese sandwich and I was not impressed. I expected a hot sandwich and it comes cold, beware. They have an awesome patio and also a covered patio for the chilly months. With this being an eastside staple you have to check it out if you haven't. Also they're kid friendly for meals. Went to this place in 2018 after a Brewers vs Cubs game. The food was nothing special, but hit the mark for a bar like this. The beer was cold and the layout was nice, but a drunken patron by the name of Patrick kept chatting me up about his "career" as an author. He gave me his number and told me to call him for copies of his books, I didn't bother, but fate brought us together over political protests and now the guy follows me all over twitter calling me Robert, which isn't even my name. A dive-ish type bar in the heart of the East Side. A decent beer selection that doesn't rotate that often, but they have some solid beers on their list. They take sanitation very seriously. Masks required for staff and patrons until orders are made. They have a great patio set up with lots of space and a small amount of indoors seating. They serve food but I haven't eaten here yet. I've been living in Milwaukee for many years. I Would consider myself a Milwaukee Restaurant aficionado and honestly this is one of the best bar/restaurants I've been to in the city. The staff is beyond friendly, the bartender even remembered my name after the second time being in. The food is some of the best in the city and it always comes out piping hot, and the tap beer selection is immense. One of best places to get good food and beer in the city. This used to be one of my staples when I lived in the east side! They have a great happy hour special Monday-Friday from 4-7 with drink specials and half off appetizers. The ranch is a must to get to dunk your sandwich into.. or your fries. They always have a few delicious sounding specials. I tend to get a veggie sandwich, Philly cheesesteak, or burger. For some reason not much was open near Columbia/St. Mary's until after 11:30 a.m. We had a friend in the hospital and were looking for somewhere within walking distance for lunch. I had been at Hooligan's many years ago during my college days and always had fun there. I didn't remember the food, though The menu is, I would say, typical bar food, but "jazzed" up. We had loaded Tatar tots with delicious beer cheese and bacon. They were really good. I had a cheeseburger on a garlic butter roll that was delicious. Typically the hamburger meat at a bar doesn't have much flavor, but here it was seasoned well and was very tasty. Hooligan's has been around, and serving up above average bar food for a long, long time. Over the years I've grown up, and it seems like Hooligans has too. Examples: *Back in the day, there was this REALLY intense cook who used to man the grill at lunch wearing a thrift store Boy Scouts uniform. Today, I saw cooks with gloves on handle food safely - never would've happened in the old days. (To be fair, today's JT never would haven eaten a burger cooked by a guy in a sketchy Boy Scout uniform) *Old Hooli's didn't have any decor that I can recollect. Today, we both seem to like vintage French advertising posters. *Hooligans of yesteryear basically had burgers and sandwiches, but it was a bar and there were plenty of day drinkers and regulars - specifically The Guy Who Looked Like Keith Richards who appeared to be physically attached to the bar. Today I had handmade chorizo + pork empanadas surrounded by hipsters. Not a drunk in the place. (But the empanadas were delicious) *They've always had a good beer list but gone are the days when you could throw your peanut shells on the floor on $2 import night. *Back when I was first dating the Mister and the time came to introduce him to my dad, we met for lunch at Hooligans. Dad, being a gruffy biker type, introduced himself with "Hey, my name's Bill but you can call me Renegade". The Mister wasn't quite sure what to do with that, and I wanted to die of embarrassment. I ordered hamburger rare and my buddy wanted the famous Ostrich burger they were out so he had to order a Grilled chicken sandwich with crisp lettuce and fresh tomato the sesame bun was large and light. It came with fresh hot fries and pickle. The burger was perfect as ordered. And came to the bar quickly hand delivered by the chef. I took a bite and looked over to see the watching chef at the pass through bar they really care how the food is received. Hooligan's is one of my favorite go-to spots for bar food or just to watch the game. They have an upper and lower level, as well as an outside dog-friendly patio situated right at the intersection of North and Farwell. If you're not a fan of sitting by a busy intersection, I would opt for the side/covered patio area. I have yet to order something from Hooligan's that I haven't liked, and I've tried a lot of things. Some great choices are: the buffalo wings (omg soo good and cooked to perfection), chili cheese dog, Irish dip (who doesn't love au jus with beer?), and the Reuben. The fries are fire, nice and soft on the inside and crispy on the outside. I've also had the chicken tortilla salad, which was okay but the amount of greens they give you is monstrous. Great selection of food and beer. Good atmosphere to watch any sports game. But I had a horrible experience a couple months ago. My friend and I went there to watch a Bucks game. We grab a seat at the bar and notice an intoxicated overweight man. So, me and my friend are watching the game, when the overweight man shouts, "Goddamn tree people, no touch." The bartender whispers to us that the overweight man is referring to the black NBA players as "tree people." I, as a POC, found this offensive. I asked the bartender why would they let this bigot drink here. The bartender explains the overweight man is a regular who makes six-figures and always spends money at the bar. We pay for our drinks and as we leave, the overweight man tries to threaten us. He said the most cringey lines like, "I'm an actually tough guy," and "I'll spoon feed you your own teeth." I offered to to fight in the ring(I'm a boxer) but he replies he doesn't fight in pads. Overall, good bar if the employees didn't enable rude overweight regulars. read more

Brought my mom here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was too chilly to eat outside, so we sat in the bar area. Despite Hooligan's being a busy bar on Friday nights, the place smelled clean, not like stale beer...this is important! Mom had the Patty Melt with onion rings and I have the Walnut Burger with fries. Mom also had a milkshake made with creme de' menthe. She enjoyed her lunch very much. My walnut burger was delicious! I would highly recommend this if you are tired of standard burgers, looking for something a little lighter, or you're a vegetarian. The flavor was much better than a standard veggie burger. I've been here several times since I moved here as the patio is one of our favorite places to relax. This past time the service was the worst. We ordered food and my burger came out completely wrong. The waitress looked at me and said "Well, what would you like me to do?". I was completely stupefied as I have never in my life been asked such an insulting question. I posted my fiasco on FB @Hooligan's page but I do not really believe they care. Unbelievable that a paying customer who tips well would have to deal with such horrid service. Not a fan but my husband comes here a lot. He harasses the staff and all the customers constantly. He's an author but he can't sell any books so he tries to handsell here. I go with him sometimes.
