I've been going to McCarthy Automotive for almost 10 years now. I have never met a more honest mechanic/owner in all the years I have been driving. We all hear stories of those magical/mystical "honest mechanic" I can tell you Larry and his crew are those "unicorns". I have never been able to own a new car, so I have a myriad of used cars that have had their own unique problems. And let me tell you regardless what it was McCarthy Automotive has taken car of me. I had them replace a transmission, windows, filters, oil, ECM's wiring harnesses, fuse boxes, fix doors, door locks, tires ... the list can go on. I have been up front and honest and said "hey money's tight" and Larry been able to tell me the order of importance so I can prioritize as needed instead of trying to push me to get it all done at once. Larry and McCarthy Auto saved me over $600 and fixed the correct problem after PepBoys quoted me over $1000 to do work that didn't even need to be repaired. Took my car into PepBoys to diagnose a check engine light. They said I needed to replace 2 Solenoids that was going to cost me over $1000. I denied the work and took my car to Larry. Larry found that the oil drain plug was broken and the valve cover gasket was leaking which is why the oil was so low which triggered the check engine light. After replacing both, this cleared the codes and everything was good for $600 less than what I would have paid to NOT fix the problem at PepBoys. Fair, honest and knowledgeable!! After taking my vehicle to Cardinale VW I was told it needed a new transmission and quoted $10,000 for the repair. I spoke to Larry and had the vehicle towed to his shop. He serviced the transmission for $500 and I was back on the road in a couple of days. It's been running great no issues for several months now. My car was making this loud noise that I 100% thought meant that my car was about to blow up, I brought it in to McCarthy auto repair on a Friday. They took my car right in and Larry even gave me a discount card for enterprise across the street for a discount on a rental car (score!). I rented a car for 2 days but Larry called me later in the day and said it would be ready tomorrow. He explained what was wrong (air conditioning belt issue??)and told me what they would do to fix it. He text me and let me know it was ready the next day. One of the mechanics (Bob, I think) even stayed late to accommodate my pick up. Price was lower than what I would have paid elsewhere and Larry even got me a good price on new set of tires because mine were bald. He went out of his way to go to the first shop with me to help me fight for my money back and explain to the orginal shop why they have lost my business. I went to pep boys for a new battery but was informed by there manager and MASTER TECHNICIAN (a.k.a conman extraordinaire) informed me of a nonexistent problem they couldn't specify either, that was gonna cost me between $1000-$1500 before replacing my battery! I had my car towed to McCarthy auto, who told me he tested my car ( for free also while pep boys charged me $90 dollars to lie to me), and came back fine just needed a new battery. I never thought I would be fortunate to break down an hour away from home, but I am so glad that I was just down the road from McCarthy auto repair. Even though he is an hour away he is my new mechanic, the drive is worth the piece of mind to know not only my car is gonna be running great, but I'm dealing with a mechanic with integrity. Excellent work getting my 1965 Mustang back on the road without charging exorbitant prices. One of the few mechanics in the IE that is qualified and willing to work on old cars. I went to McCarthy Automotive repair because I had many codes showing on my dash board in which one was to service battery charging system, service power steering, as well as service air bag. I was told that it might just be my battery so I took it to Larry since I have done business with him before. Right away before even taking the car for a test drive he told me it was the power steering pump. I told him I'll leave the car so he can look at it. He called me and told me he replaced the power steering pump and that my battery was no good. So I of course had him change the battery. When I got to the shop he gave me the bill for $940. I noticed the parts were $300 (+$369 to install) for the power steering pump base, and $170 for the battery.(+$60 to install). I knew everything sounded pretty ridiculously high but if the car was fixed that's all that mattered at the time. I drove the car home that night with no problem and didnt drive it until the third day 30 miles away. The car was in worse shape but the exact same codes where showing. as before I dropped it off to Larry. I called him immediately because my car was smoking. He told me to bring it in right away. I had one of my friends drive it down there to try and figure it out, but when we arrived Larry would not come talk to us. He immediately told me to just leave the keys in the car and stormed into his office. So I left and started calling around to other shops, I had three people tell me it sounds like it's the Alternator going out. One guy told me that for somebody that has had a shop for 30 years he would have had to know that. Im extremely upset because he charged me for the pump base and install that I didn't need. $669+tax. If he would've changed the battery in the first place like I said he would've known right away it was the alternator and he knows that he was taking a vantage of the situation because I am female. I told him that I'm not paying any more money because he didn't fix the issue so he told me to go buy the alternator and he would charge me $80 to install it. He acted like he was giving me a deal cuz he normally charges 160. After he just ripped me off. Who knows if he even touched the power steering base. Whatever that is ‍ read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I took my vehicle he had it for days. I kept calling they kept saying they don't know what's wrong with my vehicle. Every time I talk to them they kept saying they test driving it (he was using it for personal use drove it from norco to lake Elsinore multiple times) my car was over a half a tank I get it back in literal E. They left my keys in the car with the windows down over night in the rain!!!! They did work with out talking to me first and tried to charge me 675! And claimed they contacted my warranty and that the warranty denied it. I contact my warranty and they were never called and that the work they claimed they did would be covered under the warranty! He claim he took everything out and left my keys in the car and told me to pick it up! He didn't want to give me any paperwork on what was going on! Do not go here! They will leave your car unlocked with keys in the car over night in the rain! And there's nothing stopping someone from stealing it and driving it off the property!
