I used Oscar's for moving 6 years ago and was pretty happy. Recently I used them again for another move, not so happy. I'd requested that everything in the kitchen and all artwork (keeping hanging items with each piece, which didn't happen) to be packed, in addition to payng for the general moving service. The guy who packed the kitchen did a good job. The couple of the guys who worked on everything else did not pack well and items were damaged and are missing too. The back of one original framed painting was ruined and another very large piece was mishandled and the plexi and frame popped and it now needs to be repaired and/or reframed. AND my bed was put back together incorrectly, which is something I am unfortunately unable to fix. That's a lot of aggravation and additional $$$ to spend. I recommended them to my son too and Oscars was fine on his family's first move but I've since discovered that the second move that was last year, not so fine. Very very disappointing. It took a bit longer than I anticipated but I would suggest them to anyone who has a move coming up. If your furniture and personal items are not properly wrapped, they have all the fixings to wrap them for you. Watch out for this company like the plague! I had to move from a place I was living in because a loan didn't go through last minute so we had to find last minute housing and movers. They called back with a good offer, or so I thought. Yes, they move fast, but with the speed comes accidents and damage. We were moving from a condo to another, due to their speed, I had to write a $1100 check to cover the damages that they caused to the property on top of the $500 deposit I put down on the property before I could get my money back because there was visible damages that were not there before we moved in. (And were not before we moved out too) Things were destroyed, and I was told that because I didn't pay for extra insurance (which I was never offered initially because I was told it was in the initial agreement that I signed, and I would have to request it) So yes, they are insured and bonded, as long as you pay more for it, which the initial cost for me was $2400+ So, this entire move has cost me over $4000 because of the company's employees. On top of that, none of our stuff was placed where it was meant to. We had a color coding system and my wife was with them all day to make sure everything went smoothly. I was with my son so he wouldn't get underfoot. They only confided in her when they needed furniture moved. Everything else was guessed where to put it. They used boxes when it wasn't required, and used their own tape when none was needed. I have been in constant contact with them, and they offered to bring someone over to move it properly, but why give them a second chance when they didn't do it right the first time? They refuse to pay for damages until they get a quote, I wish I had that option when I left. They said they would refund the tape usage, yay... I am sorry, but this company may be fast, but they are not worth the cost... especially for the unforeseen ones. On a side note, I had to sign a responsibility waver before they moved anything (may as well have been an extortion form) So yeah, if I had a choice, I never would have used them, and saved myself this expensive problem. If these guys are Angie List preferred 10 years running, the bar must be pretty damned low. read more

Our experience with this company was great. We had never hired movers before, so it was a bit weird and we didn't know exactly what to expect. The person who provided our quote and set up the moving date was friendly and helpful. The moving team showed up within the range of time they had provided, and called 20 minutes before arrival to let us know they were on their way. Four dudes showed up, which was ideal. They all walked through the house with us, room-by-room, and asked what was staying, going, etc. We had a dumpster set up so they also assisted with loading a bunch of stuff into that. They were speedy and efficient but careful with everything as well. I watched them wrap fragile items like electronics and it appeared to be quite a thorough job. They had a pretty good memory from the walk-through of what needed to go where, but asked along the way to double check as needed. They also helped to pack a few loose items for us, and didn't seem bothered by it much if at all. One guy, in particular, seemed to be directing a lot of the work, and if he noticed them grab something he wasn't sure about, he'd politely shout over to them and ask if they were sure they knew where it was going before they walked out the door. I didn't notice any problems throughout the process, and they were polite and reassuring any time we had questions or had to chime in to make sure they did something the way we wanted. Shoutout to Phal, who was especially great, and the tall Russian (?) dude with a big upper body - didn't catch his name but he was awesome. They both deserve a raise. read more

These guys were amazing I had to cancel my move last minute due to a closing issue on our house. I re-booked last minute with Oscars and they had no issue fitting me in. When they moved us out of our old house the crew worked quickly and took good care of all of our boxes and furnishings. They wrapped all of our furniture with care the crew seemed to really enjoy working with each other. The next day they showed up on time and unloaded everything as quickly but safely making sure not to damage our furniture or walls. My family used them once before in 2018 and the experience was phenomenal. We had a great crew of guys with excellent work ethic. They had a lot to do but they had great attitudes and were quick. We had a good rapport and some good laughs. The move itself was stressful, but they genuinely made it feel fun. Now another circumstance has arisen. Last year, my dad passed away and today we had to move some furniture out of his house into our existing living space. I did call around and got a couple of quotes that seemed similar. Because I had had a wonderful experience before, I chose Oscar's. I am comparing two moves here... the first time we moved an entire 3,000 sq ft. house and it was packed into the trucks in about 9 hours, with a lunch break. We had packed extensively, but there were of course some last-minute items to be packed or boxed up. This move was complicated because we had to store stuff overnight before we passed papers, and they had to make a second trip in the morning to pick up the items we had slept on. Then our belongings were unloaded at the new house. Similar story, about a 9-hour day with a lunch break. Including tips this move cost about $6,000, but we had a genuine fondness for the movers and were so happy to see them both days. Upon unpacking, I think we lost a plate or two but no significant damage. All things considered, the company was flexible and responsive to our needs. Today involved three bedrooms of empty furniture, some boxes we had already packed, a TV & a TV stand. They also agreed to dispose of an item for us. It felt like significantly less items (saying ~750 sq ft feels generous). This move was completed in one day and from start to finish it took them 6 hours. The guys were generally nice, but a few snide remarks from one of them left me a little puzzled. This was an emotional move considering the circumstances and 2 out of 3 of the movers asked me several times if I was okay, which was very kind (meanwhile the third jokingly(?) called me nosy as I walked around the house cleaning up). It was rainy so I had a little bit of cleanup to do when they were done removing furniture from the first house, and they left presumably to stop for lunch in between houses. The unloading went much quicker - I'd say maybe one hour of the total six. I overheard some remarks at the first house that made me feel as though everything wasn't totally sunny between the movers themselves regarding their pace. I'm not sure what to think as there were some small doorways and tight corners so I am sure it wasn't the easiest to navigate, but it also seemed to take longer than it should have. The quote was a 4-6 hr. estimate, and they worked exactly 6. The wrapping for the furniture and packing tape added almost $550 to the original quote. Returning some of the packaging brought the cost down so including tips today I paid $1800. Writing it all out it seems like the company is fairly consistent with their pricing. I'm not sure if it is the clouds in the sky or the general grief associated with this move that may be affecting my feelings, or perhaps even some of the tension between the movers. I think communication could have been slightly better this time around. Overall, I think they were all basically good guys that did their best and they scheduled me on short notice which was wonderful. read more

I have never hired a mover before and was not sure what to expect. They came recommended and after comparing price they had the best value for what I needed. They had four guys that were professional yet friendly. They were fast and kept to working with no messing around. We moved into a brand new building and after watching several other movers not be able to negotiate backing into the loading dock, I am so glad I hired Oscars. One couple has a claim against their company because they damaged the building trying to backup to the loading dock. Don't forget a big part of the move is exceptional driving. I am not going to bore you with all the awful details. Let's just say I had to use them twice. I would not have had the second move with them had they not had my stuff in their storage. So even though I asked for a different team the second time around, my overall experience was quite negative. First team was just a disaster: careless and inattentive to details. They literally put a hole in my newly finished floors on top of multiple damaged and broken items, including the ones they packed themselves (kitchen). I got this back from the boss: that's strange, they're an experienced crew, must have been because it was a long hot day for them. I thought my second team was an improvement until we got a destroyed $1000 crate & barrel desk. By destroyed I mean it was snapped into two. Their boss literally just said: "that's the risk of moving. Things break". There is just too much to write to cover it all. They refuse to take responsibility for anything. It's appalling. I have moved soooooo many times and have never experienced so much damage and frustration. Look elsewhere if you don't want to gamble with your stuff and sanity. read more

Not sure if it's the company or the particular crew that worked my job, but it was the worst moving experience ever. Showed up late, worked slowly, wrapped my furniture badly, stacked boxes in the wrong order (soft stuff on the bottom), constantly yelled at each other, took social phone calls while working, then at some point switched into frantic mode to unload and throw my furniture around as quickly and carelessly as possible, obviously to make a 5pm exit. My wife and I needed movers for a fairly embarasssingly large move from one single family home in Newton to another in Waltham. Oscar's came highly regarded on Angie's List and after calling a number of local moving companies, including receiving a number of estimates, we went with Oscar's based on their readiness to provide an accurate estimate and to find a convenient day and time for our move. While the initial estimate was certainly accurate, since it was a local move where my wife and I had a few buffer days to work with, we requested fewer hands and only one truck for our move. To paint a realistic picture, my wife and I were packed and moved up to Boston from DC by an employer and two years later, never went through sorting our belongings and reducing our footprint. Oscar's team of 4 movers and one large truck arrived on time and were able to load and unload 95% of our belongings (we had purged quite a bit since the initial estimate) in what I'd consider RECORD TIME. The entire job took 8 hours which impressed us beyond belief. The team was considerate and careful in moving our furniture, and paid close attention to all walls, corners, banisters, etc. in both the house we were leaving and moving into. They handled our sensitive and fragile items with great care - musical instruments, amplifiers, televisions, etc. I have no doubt I will be reaching out to Oscar's again when we inevitably move again! read more

I hired Oscar's back in April to do a very complicated 3 destination move. My Mother had passed away unexpectedly which was hard enough, we had to move and pick up items at every stop. We began in Dedham, emptied the apartment. Next stop Chestnut Hill to my sisters, where they dealt with time constraints and elevators. Next to my home in Newton where they had to disassemble a baby grand piano and take it away for donation. Finally last stop Hyannis on Cape Cod. It was a very long and unusually hot day for April. The move was over 12 hours but the crew stayed in good humor, followed instruction to the letter, and never damaged a thing. The team leader was excellent. I highly recommend them. I see some of these negative reviews and I just can't believe it's the same company. We've moved around a few times and had nightmares. Broken furniture, lazy and unprofessional movers, extra 'off the truck' surcharges... Oscar's was NOTHING like that. They were terrific when we used them to move from Boston to Grand Rapids, MI last year. I was a bit nervous since they were the least expensive in comparison to all the places we checked. Oscar oversaw the entire packing and transport and drove the truck all the way to Michigan and unpacked everything. I can't express enough how great they were. Even with our 2 year old son following them all over the house. "Oscar! Hey Oscar! Hey Oscar!" They were great. I wish Oscar and his company all the success. read more

Absolute worst moving experience ever!! Over the phone they gave an estimate of 5 hours. then I get a confirmation letter stating 6 hours. 8 hours later I am moved... These guys are a joke. Totally unprofessional, slow and lazy. Btw, they charge you for the number of rolls of tape they use! 30 tape rolls later... They just wrap wrap wrap and STILL dented up my stuff. Furthermore, I had to keep reminding them over and over again which stuff was coming to my apartment and which stuff was going into storage. They brought a rug to my apartment that was 8x11 and I had instructed them to bring it to storage. Needless to say, I had to lug it back to storage MYSELF. These guys are idiots plain and simple. No matter what your move is, it will still take 8 hours because they get paid hourly and expect to put in an 8 hour day. DO NOT HIRE THIS MOVING COMPANY. read more

I've used other moving companies in the past and these guys have been the best so far. They quoted me without seeing our condo or the other two places we were moving from so the final price wasn't as low as one of the quotes, but really it means that you should be sure they do an in-person walkthrough before doing the moves. Pricing-wise when it was all finished, Oscar's would be in the middle of the pack - not dirt cheap but not crazy expensive. I wouldn't really trust anyone with dirt cheap prices to handle all my stuff anyway! The three guys they sent worked diligently, carefully with our fragile stuff, and got the job done. They did not damage anything, except for one part of my stairway wall which we had discussed and decided it was better to put a little dent in the wall than to not have a bed (box spring would not fit!) We had these guys over the course of 2-3 days and got along fine. One good thing was that they offered to store my stuff overnight between house closings (for $150, which is reasonable) and it was left on a truck in a secure area. I'm sure that there are better / faster / cheaper movers out there. But I KNOW there are worse and these were pretty good. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Oscar's again. I do not understand a lot of the negative reviews here, and perhaps it just varies by which crew comes to move you. Also, prep work. If you do not CLEARLY LABEL EVERY ITEM you are moving, as well as label the new rooms that things are going in to, then you will spend a LOT more time (and thus money) directing the movers where to put all your stuff. Yes, a couple boxes will probably be in the wrong place, but that's nothing compared to the time and energy you and the movers take to talk about each box and item's new location. You will be doing this enough anyway. read more
