We went last Sunday night, 15 minutes prior to closing. They told us not to hurry. The inside has a great vibe but we had a pup so sat outside which was lovely too! Britrany and Robert were the best! Robert and Taylor - we love you guys and can't wait to see you again in Laguna and Solvang! We found this tasting room sort of by accident - I loved the black white aesthetic from the street, so we decided to stop in for some wine (and not gonna lie, air conditioning!) But we wound up staying way longer than anticipated because of the atmosphere and the service. We stopped in right when they opened, and had the luck of essentially getting a private tasting with Robert all to ourselves. His knowledge and hospitality were just so incredible, it's no wonder he was given the opportunity to come from Laguna and open this new experience in Solvang. Taylor also joined us at the end of our tasting and was equally as wonderful. I only wish we had our pups with us so she could give them just as much love (because yes, the patio is pet-friendly!) This was our second time coming McClain Cellars. Unfortunately it did not perform as well as the first. Once we walked in, my boyfriend and I took turns going to the restroom since we just finished walking around Solvang, when I came back from the restroom, my boyfriend wanted to go and our server, Elizabeth "Liz", asked him to wait to go to the restroom so she can explain the wine menu. I thought it was slightly awkward mostly because it wasn't busy at the time. That was just the first incident. Throughout the entire time we were there it felt as if we were being rushed out-constant checking from our sever "are you done yet? Ready for the next one?" When our glasses clearly still had wine in it. Janet on the other hand who was the other server and helped other tables was sweet, kind, and professional-I wish we had her as our server. I would give it one star for the service, however, we made light of the situation and had laughs and giggles ourselves. Towards the end of the night we were told by Liz "if you can just move along because we have a couple waiting for this table." I understand that we were taking our time-however with an empty lounge, there is clearly enough room for everyone to sit. We were literally on our way out and just finishing our snacks. The next time we come here, we're definitely going to take a peek as to who the servers are before we walk in. read more

Wife and I exploring Solvang with another couple decided to do a tasting at McClain. My wife used to be in the business and our friend used to own and manage an Italian restaurant in Newport Beach. At $35 and $40 for a regular Red and Reserve flight, we thought the wines would be excellent, but they were nothing special. The pours seemed light and after the 3rd pour, our friend Dom said so to our server, who very curtly stated, "It's a one ounce pour!" She then proceeded to add another few drops to his glass, then moved on. Really!! We usually buy a few bottles at a tasting, but this treatment soured the rest of our experience... and $35 or $40 for the equivalent of one glass of mediocre wine is absurd! read more

We originally stopped at the Buellton location but they were closed for renovation. It was suggested that we try the Solvang tasting room. Glad we did!! By going on a Monday it wasn't crowded at all. We (my husband, me and our pup) decided to visit McClain Cellars for a late afternoon wine flight. We sat at the front of the building in the outdoor patio area. The ambiance and seating were nice with patio awnings to keep us out of the sun. I chose the Valley Flight (all whites) and my husband got the Mission flight (mix of whites and reds). We both felt that the flight pours were on the lighter side and wished there was just a tad bit more for each tasting. We also ordered the pear & brie with toasted almonds appetizer. The wines were okay, not anything super amazing, but good enough. The pear and Brie was delicious- one thing to keep in mind is that the pastries are small and priced high ($12 for 3). Our pup was given a cute dog treat flight (milk bones) which was really sweet and cute- yay for being dog friendly! The service was okay with our server...didn't feel very warm, but I think the owner who brought us the doggie treats made up for it. I would say, for me, the price was pretty steep for what we got. read more
