I have a 1964 Sunbeam Tiger, a British sports car with a Ford 260 v8. The motor was running very rough. I first took the car to a North Shore specialty shop, who misdiagnosed the problem, and then claimed the car was fixed. The problem was not "fixed", and they would not be able to take my car back for another two months! I stopped by McClure's to see if they could have a look at the car. That was on a Friday, and they said I could bring in the car on Tuesday. No problem! And they called on Thursday to tell me the car was done! They identified the problem, called me to discuss the repair, fixed it, & test drove the car to ensure it ran smoothly. Since the repair, I've put over 120 miles on the car and it runs perfectly. Regardless of what happen with the situation with my daughter Police Department on the 16th, and what happen on the 19th. McClure's is by far the most unprofessional and retaliated business ever known to town. I believe that after I rereviewed Jack's Business on google, he ended up retaliating by not only informing the public about my daughters information but by also lying and justifying his and his staff behavior. Furthermore, I thought, maybe its just us and doubted us but I researched back six years and he and his business have been doing this for over six years. Jack has a habit of justifying their behavior by shaming the customer instead of de-escalating. Shame on him. With that said... he towed my daughters car again from across the street where some of his employees and a police office helped move, "because if its left here by 2 pm, there will be another $65 added for storage" as what I believe was a part of a retaliation from the review (link added below.) My daughter contacted the police department and the park district the day before to make them aware of the vehicle still being there due to a dead battery. No-one called McClure's Garage and Towing to do a job. They did that on their own. RETALITATION. They say they have video to prove our behavior, then we would like to see that, because that would seal the deal on our behalf. They were rude and unhuman like. No heart. No compassion. I call for the Gurnee Police Department to find another Towing company to work with as this is not the only incident that has occured. Found this place for a snowblower warranty repair a couple years ago and they fixed it up just fine and dealing with the warranty was easy. I choose to write a review, though, because I had to bring that snowblower back again right before the 2018 February snowstorms over 3 days. Great timing for it to bust the day before. But McClure's understood the importance of getting it back quickly and they were able to diagnose and fix it in ONE day, and then stay open 20 minutes late to allow me to pick it up the evening before the snowed rolled in. Such a debt of gratitude. They really saved my back! read more

I was new to the area and stumbled across this place when needing to add air to my tires. There is a reason this place has been in business so long. They are straight shooters and always do the right thing. I had some work done at Gillispee ford prior and they couldn't even balance my tires properly after 2 visits. I took my vehicle to McClure's after that and they had no issues. I was hooked and went there ever since for all my service needs. Now that I have left the area I hope I can find a pace half as good as McClure's. read more

Called in for some help and the representative that answered was extremely rude for no reason.

Had my catalytic converter replaced. Few months later engine light came on and took it in. They told me the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. I told them it was replaced just a few months ago by them. They then told me we would talk when I got there and that it was another converter before the catalytic converter. Took it to the dealer and they confirmed it was the catalytic converter. Won't be going back due to this and how rude they were. read more

I have used McClure's twice for a battery and an oil change. They are located next to my office, so I was able to drop my car off before work. Both times they were very prompt. Also, my oil change cost about $30 less here than at a national chain I had previously went to. They also adopted a stray cat that would hang around my office parking lot, so that's another plus! :) read more

This place sucks and will rip you off royally!!! I had a small oil leak from my engine. They said it was the distributor o ring was bad and they wanted 200 dollars to repair. I went and bought the o ring i needed for $3.78 dollars. I then watched a utube video how to do it. Needless to say it took me about 5 minutes to fix it myself....leak is gone. These people are rip off artist, scammer and general pieces of garbage!!! I urge all to go somwhere else unless you have tons of money and just dont care read more

When I needed new back brakes 2 years ago I thought I did my research and brought my vehicle to a reputable place. Turns out I was wrong! I gave McClure's 1 star but it truly deserved 0. At first they were very kind and I thought I had great service. The price seemed comparable to when I've had the front brakes replaced prior. The day after I got my brakes replaced at McClures I noticed my brake pedal was a little off but I thought after driving a while it corrected itself. I also thought the brake pedal was pushing a little low but I chalked it up to my car getting older. Over the next 2 years I felt very unsafe in my car and just thought it had to do with my car getting older. Recently I went to get my front brakes replaced at a different auto shop. They were kind enough to let me know a few things they found on my car but the most interesting was that my back brakes which I had replaced at McClures 2 years prior were never making contact. The good news is that the new place was able to fix the issue and the back brakes are like new since they've never been used. The bad news is for the last 2 years I've been running only on my front brakes and having a lot of almost accidents, especially during bad weather. Luckily I am a cautious person so all my almost accidents from the past 2 years never became actual accidents. I am very lucky that I or someone else wasn't hurt because I was only functioning with half my brakes. On another occasion, prior to my knowledge of the above incident, I brought my husband's car to McClure's for a quick repair. The cover under the car came down recently due to some potholes from all the recent construction. It took less than an hour and cost us $30. When we got home we noticed the cover still slightly hanging from under the car. My husband just decided to pull it off at that point rather than bringing it back to McClures. He was not happy with the service he received either. I will NEVER bring my vehicles to McClure's again or recommend them. I caution anyone looking to get their vehicle serviced here. I tried calling to let the manager know what happened to my vehicle instead of writing this review. He found it hard to believe especially without seeing the vehicle. I felt I was not taken seriously. Plus, what was he to look at? The brakes are currently fixed no thanks to them! I wouldn't want them to look or touch any of my vehicles again. I am just glad the new place I took my vehicle to was concerned enough to let me know about my back brakes and fixed them for free. I certainly noticed a huge difference once ALL my brakes were connected and working. It's like I have a new vehicle that I feel safe driving. read more

I rarely write reviews, but money is too tight for most people these days and they need to know the truth. The main reason I went to them was because they had a loaner car, and had been in business for awhile. First off, Jack is just plain rude...until he is collecting your money, then he smiles kindly as he explains how you have been screwed. When I spoke with Matt the day before he had explained that they were going to warranty the battery (since it was purchased from them a year ago) but I had to pay for the labor to put it in. Fair enough, I was prepared to pick it up the following afternoon. When I got there, Jack explained that they had put in an additional part, which he felt was causing my problem to the battery. I asked for a breakdown on what the prices were. He charged me DOUBLE for a part that I NEVER authorized for him to put in. When I told him that the part was only $50.00, his face turned red and he said "I was very fair with the cost of the labor" Apparently, if you are fair on the labor, you are ok to screw the customer on the cost of the actual part. Customer beware...do NOT take your car here! read more

Absolutely the WORST customer service I have ever received!!! I have heard bad things about this garage but still was giving them a chance. Wow! They repaired my tire after a flat and installed the wrong size tire! I have since had car trouble (I didn't know the tire was the wrong size as I know nothing about cars and would expect a garage to install the right product) and after alerting the garage of my problems, all the manager said after I called back was "Wow". No apology, no let's see how we can fix this for you, nothing! I will NEVER go there again and hope that if you care about your car, you will NOT either! read more

Ever since McClures worked on my lawn mower i have had nothing but problems. This was returned three times and still to date this is not running properly. I know they have been in business in Gurnee for sometime. But i feel this is going down hill. The kid that worked on this still has not got it right. The owner looks at it and says everything is alright. I do not think he even started the mower. I rate this very low and will not be using them again. Poor Business! read more
