My family has been coming here since the 1950/60s. Hadn't been here in a while. The place hasn't changed much in a good way. The owner is very nice and friendly. The food way spot on and the all the way sauce was delicious as always. Of course we got a large jar on the way out. The food came out nice and hot!! They play 60s/70s music which is perfect. I was suprised of the negative reviews here but it's all complaints about the prices which I find absurd because prices are posted and nobody is forcing you to pay that price. The best hot dogs I have ever had. Been going there for 50 years ant they never disappoint! The dogs are custom made, the buns are custom made and the sauce is out of this world. Its not really chili I don't think but it is very unique and downright delicious. A lot of though and experimentation went into these dogs and it is revealed in every last bite. The french fries are always perfect and the milk shakes are awesome. The service is great and the place has indoor and outdoor seating. Love this place and the people who own it are awesome too. The team from the documentary "One all the Way" paid a visit to the legendary McCobb's ( since 1940 ) today for their Texas Weiners. They did not disappoint! The German Schmaltz dogs were delicious with the perfect snap. Their famous tomato based Texas Weiner sauce was a perfect compliment and is available jarred to take home. You have to save a little room for their delicious homemade ice cream. They have a very pleasant outdoor seating area along the river to enjoy . Check McCobb's out. You'll be glad you did! read more

I really feel bad for this place to have such a bad overall score and reviews when they actually have high quality great food. Maybe people think that the decor is outdated or that it looks like a diner so it should be cheap or something. But it's not like you don't know what you are paying when you go in and look at a board to order...the price is right there! If you don't like it you should leave and go somewhere "cheap." Now that I got that out let's get to the food. My boyfriend had a burger which was really good and he has been here before and loves the dill sauce. It's really delicious we were savoring every bit left in the cup. I had the fish and chips. It was a pretty big portion and I couldn't stop eating it. Really enjoyed everything. My tip here is that if you look at the menu and think it's too expensive to pay for quality food, nice service and a clean restaurant then just leave but stop giving this place bad reviews for this stupid reason! read more

Ok I can't believe I never reviewed here, I have been coming here since I was a kid, over 30 years. This is my go to hot dog joint - best chili sauce in NJ. Food is always great, service is usually friendly. Have a nice outdoor seating area and a boat launch onto the river right there which is free to use. As others have mentioned the costs have gotten out of control. This place is 5 stars for me, but 2 chili dogs, small fries and drink for $17.50??? That just seems wasaaaay too high. This is my go to place for fried clam strips. I almost never eat them but one Friday in Lent my friend wanted to go for a burger so I had the only fish meal on the menu that had that magic word- FRIED! They are well cooked. The portion size is good too. Fries are acceptable - nothing special. The shop is clean, with plenty of parking. Overall, I enjoy eating here. Lots of chatter about cost on yelp. I can see what they mean because we just had 2 sodas, an order of clam strips, a small fries and a large bowl of veggie chili (really good ). Price was $23. Definitely not inexpensive. However, the food was good, portion size fair and the tables were clean. We will go back but you probably have to decide for yourself if the prices represent good value . Recommended. read more

So I have lived in Wayne for about 2 years. I have passed by this place a couple of times and thought it was an ice cream store. One day, I saw a sign that said they sell Mr. Cupcake cupcakes so we decided to drop by and get some when we were meeting some friends. Its about 11:30 in the morning and I am starving at this point. I go in and I see the menu and my mouth is watering! BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, Texas weiners, chilli, etc.! Since we were late, we couldnt eat there. But I vowed that I would come back. Well I did go back and I had the pulled pork, pulled chicken sammich and the texas weiners. All really good! The hot dogs had this chilli on it and it was fantastic. I cant believe I never ate here and I have been in Wayne for 2 years. All those missed sammiches... Husband & I ordered lunch from here this past Sunday. We both got the quarter pound cheeseburgers and an order of the cajun fries for pick-up - came up to $23 roughly. Order was ready in 15 minutes. Gotta say it was very organized for a pickup order - no mess like when you order from some places. Burgers were delicious & the dill dipping sauce for the fries was unique and yummy. My order was one burger -- medium rare (came out like a hockey puck), two medium fries -- one with a side of gravy (came saltless), two all the way hot dogs and one chili dog. You can imagine my surprise when the lady at the counter told me my total was $45.07! If the food was fantastic, I might... MIGHT be able to justify it, but it really wasn't all that. What more? As you can see from previous reviews, my biggest and foremost issue with this place is the pricing. You don't get what you pay for and you would be better off going to many other places if you are looking for value. That being said, we ordered two bacon cheeseburgers (1 small and 1 regular) a small fry and two sodas and our total was a few cents under $30. That is unacceptable given the quality of the food. The fries were straight up McCain's kringle cuts with shredded cheese on them, the burgers were boiled in a bag, not grilled, no char, no flavor. Honestly, I would have rather made our food at home. I will say the produce was lovely, very nice and fresh tomatoes, crisp lettuce and decent homemade pickles. The only saving grace for this place is the staff is excellent, friendly and attentive, but that being said, it's not enough to justify the cost of the food here. I will go elsewhere for my burgers and will not be returning. read more

You want to love and cheer for this place for nostalgia. It's a classic. Been around for years. The girls working there work hard and have a great attitude and approach to their jobs. But all it reminds me of after a charge like that is the Owner in Major League (the movie). Trying to tank the team to pack it up and move down south. You don't try to make the most amount of money on each purchase. You make money on volume and overwhelming demand and then demand higher prices because of quality. Food was way over priced for what you we got. French onion soup was disgusting and the two that ordered it didn't get past the first bite. The woman working the cashier was either new or had never worked a day in her life. Screwed up the order twice and I had to keep going up to ask where the food was. At one point they left it sitting on the counter for a few minutes. Finally when we "finished" the woman comes up and doesn't politely ask if we're done, instead looks at us and goes "someone comes pay for the food now" and walks away. Not how was everything? Are you all finished? None of that. Place was completely empty too. Maybe if they were packed some of this could be overlooked. But not when we were the only 4. I have been going to McCobbs for over 50 years. Although they are on the expensive side the food is made to order and always fresh. They may have the best fries in N.J. they only come in one size small but it is more than enough. I agree with other patrons it is also my favorite chili sauce in the state and I have been to them all. Try it out. read more

I'm not the first, second or even tenth to note that the prices here are a little dear for what you get. What do you get? Cheap quality dogs, burgers with absolutely no taste, standard frozen fries without any trace of salt, and yes..their ice cream seems great. It's Gelotti's (from Totowa) but we didn't partake. We ordered 3 dogs all the way, 1 small French fry, 2 vanilla milk shakes. I couldn't believe it when the girl said $34.80. WAY OVERPRICED. I'd be surprised if they stay in business. Went in at lunchtime, only a couple of other folks here...greeted by gent at counter very nicely. Ordered a 1/3 lb Bacon Cheese burger, fries and a birch beer. Now I probably should have added it up in my head but I did not. Total came to $17.24. That's a boatload of dough for what I was served. Burger seemed small, bacon was low quality, fries OK. I am giving this the biggest thumbs down, only because of the price. Apparently, we the customers, are paying for the free boat launch out back. I cannot think of any justification for a plain hamburger and a small fry to be over $11.00. The burger was $6.99 and the small fry was $4.25. Seriously? I do not even pay that in Manhattan. We stopped in for a big juicy old school burger and crispy fries, and in addition we got a nice surprise, glad I didn't go to Starbucks first, I got to try McCobbs' new line of espresso drinks. I had a super hot and smooth Bristot Italian caramel machiato. Dean explained the whole science behind the beans and honestly I usually hit up Starbucks a few times a day, but I might switch it up as this was really smooth and I enjoyed it! Good place for lunch, tried it earlier this week with a friend. Small place but good food. Something like a diner but no waitresses, order at the counter and they call you when your food is ready. They advertise their barbecue and their home-made ice cream. I liked their pulled pork sandwich. My friend had a roast beef sandwich. We both had their Cajun fries. Very good food but not exceptional. Worth a try if you are in the neighborhood I picked up a bottle of their Chili Sauce (since 1940) but have not opened it yet.. I love McCobb's! My husband and I go every weekend. Their prices are a little higher but it's all real, fresh food. Happy to pay more for real food that tastes good. Restaurant is always clean and most of the staff is friendly - they're usually kids so once in a while you'll get one that needs further refinement, but that's to be expected. I don't really get this place. Advertises itself as a family restaurant, but has 80s arena rock music blasting on the speakers (MORE than a FEELING...). Most clients are in their 50s-60s-70s, so I can't imagine that being appealing to them. The prices are bit high for the fare and amenities provided. E.g. $6 for a 1/3 lb cheeseburger, plus $4.50 for a reg order of fries, plus 2.29 for a drink, and we're talking $14 bucks for lunch. Comparing that to the average diner's burger deluxe and drink, I would say that's a bit high. In any case I would say they need some help with branding. I have passed there every day for the last 7 years and never thought they specialized in 'roadhouse' type food, with pulled pork sandwiches, deep fried hot dogs, etc. "Family Restaurant" sounds like the fare is made up of things like meatloaf with brown gravy with a side of mashed potatoes, like a Bob Evans restaurant. McCobb's USED TO BE my family go-to place for chili dogs and fries (we're going back to the 70's here) when Preakness was the only shopping mall around Northern NJ. I ate countless chili dawgs sitting on the redwood picnic tables out back. Fast forward 35 years. The food is so outrageously overpriced as to become a running joke. "Do you want to get something good and cheap, it should we go to McCobb's?" Seriously- prepare to spend a minimum of $30 for two and find yourself hungry when you leave. I was on my way back from dinner the other night and stopped to get my family ice cream. I was kind of surprised to see that it was $16 for a milkshake and a small cup of ice cream but what happened when they made it was even more shocking. The woman who made the milkshake Over filled the cup and proceeded to use her hand to clean the excess from my cup- she then licked it off her fingers in front of me.
