My sweetie and I were in the mood for brews, wings and beer. Throw in a couple of shots and some great rock music and it's the perfect Friday night! Our server and bar tender were very attentive and we got to watch the Olympics on the many screens. People were generally happy and it was a terrific vibe. They have live music on occasion but the bar menu and craft brews are from local breweries. Delicious! Definitely the spot for a tasty burger and fries. We came here after visiting a farm on the way back home and so glad we did! I had the special sauce double burger with cheese fries and it hit the spot! Best burger and house made cheese fries I've had in a looong time! We might make the drive again for it when we're craving a delicious burger because it was THAT good. We also had the Mac & cheese bites for an app and they were also delicious! Freshly made and the perfect amount of cheesy and pasta in the middle not dry at all like some Mac and cheese bites can be. Service was great, very friendly, welcoming, and attentive ladies that made sure we had everything we needed and were enjoying our food. The vibe was very chill, they have a nice bar you can hang at if that's your vibe or some high top tables - you sit and they'll come to you! Another review from a poor man. This review is a complete mix bag for me. There is very good things and some irksome things about our latest visit here. The pros. The chicken wings had a good crisp, the side salad I asked for was fresh, the cheese steak roll was pillowy soft and was nicely cheesy, and most importantly, the gentleman behind the bar who took our order was a fantastically nice guy The cons. The garlic parm sauce on the wings were a bit lacking and the amount of meat on the cheese steak was only half enough to really fill that long roll. And the most irksome thing was the 2,23 % "technology fee". No offense but WTH is that?????? If it was to use the credit card, it wasn't explained at all. We've been here before and loved it, but on this day a series of missteps left a bad taste unfortunately. 1) Wifey loves Bodi Blonde Ale, checked their website, it's there but not that night, 2) Wife orders southwest chicken wrap, waiter says that's actually a burger not chicken, she says okay, was expecting beef on a wrap, waiters gives her higher priced southwest burger, 3) I order smoke house burger, both taste nice however each patty was 1/2 the bun size. Both overloaded with sauce and greasy bun plus no napkins. 4) I ordered rail vodka, cranberry and club. Barely taste vodka. 5) the check, $10 for double vodka which i didn't ask for plus $2 for cranberry, and the kicker, we see and additional 2.75% technology charge WTF. Everything we had was pretty solid, our experience with the burgers didn't reach the heights of some of the other comments, but the smash-style burger are good, and def worth a try. I came upon this place for work this week and I was so intrigued by its cool, eclectic look that I told myself I have to come back here. My wife and I went today and they did not disappoint!! Where else can you get delicious food and great drinks while listening to Deftones and System Of A Down? We had the cheese pizza for an appetizer. I asked that it be cooked well done and it was perfectly cooked. I had the crunch wrap and my wife had the Caesar wrap. Both were very good and the fries that came with them were fantastic. Big portions so we ended up taking half of our meals home. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. My guest and I walked in at 3 on a Sunday to find several regulars at the bar, attended to by two barkeepers. The Christmas lighting inside definitely sets a... particular mood, but it's necessary to offset the lack of natural lighting inside. The TVs were everywhere, but thankfully not intense like at BWW. I ordered the sliders with special sauce, whereas my guest ordered a southwest burger. The meat was so juicy, the cook a tender medium rare, and for me the special sauce worth savoring in my mouth, but maybe in need of some pickle juice or other acid. My guest polished off the burger without hesitating. The brioche bun was branded with the tavern's logo and lightly toasted on the edges. Yelp is subjective. If you've traveled around, you know what I mean. A five-star in NYC is vastly different than a 5 stars in, say Rockaway, NJ. I've been to Yelp 4 star places in the hallway of a YMCA that totally deserved 4 stars vs 5 star places in major cities (Cleveland and Boston specifically) that were no better than 3 star. So Tavern on the Rocks is a diamond in the rough. There are a lot of mediocre restaurants in the western quarter of NJ, and Tavern is not one of them. Tavern has a very tasty burger. The wings are arguably some of, if not, the best in the (what I will call) Tri- County area (vs Windlass, Knotty Pine, and Blue Spice Kitchen). The burger is very tasty (when cooked to temp....(An ongoing issue. Medium rare is just that. Why is it such a problem in this area?!?!) The take on a Taco Bell crunch wrap is life changing. Why is it so good?!?! My only wish (and I didn't ask) was hot sauce. If they included some Yellow Bird habanero sauce, this would be a perfect dish for me. I moved to Rockaway 2 years ago and haven't explored our town. Tavern on the Rocks was our introduction to finding our local hang out, and I think we found it on the first try. This is a classic dive bar, serving great food and great drinks. All you need is great company. My husband, his friends, and I came out here on a Thursday night. They had a band playing at 10pm, which I thought was awesome. We are big fans of live music. They had a great choice of local and craft beers. We tried a couple of them, but I want to come back for the strawberry banana beer that is on their menu. As for the food - they should get an extra star. Their wings are crispy and juicy and the sauce is so delicious. Our waitress recommended buffalo with the boom boom sauce - DEFINITELY GET THIS! We loved their bar pizza and their loaded fries were amazing. I can't wait to go back and try their smash burgers! 5+ stars for the food, the drinks, and the service. Tavern on the Rocks has been a staple in Rockaway Borough for years but their Corned Beef Reuben is one of the best food items I've consumed in quite some time. The meat was perfectly tender and took on the flavor of the yeungling it's been marinating in. Packed with flavor in every bite is an understatement. The bread was fresh, toasted to perfection, and held everything together without getting soggy. The homemade Russian dressing added just the right amount of tang to balance the richness of the corned beef. The Swiss cheese and pickles sat on the bread perfectly and left me wanting more. The portion size was beyond generous and quite frankly, I left the bar feeling like we were under charged for a meal of that stature. The margarita was surprisingly...fresh. Didn't taste like your typical concentrated marg mix. And the burger, baby, the burger! Never would have imagined I'd finish the whole thing but I did. So so good. The beef patties are thin but they give you two and their perfectly juicy and tender. The burger is stuffed with other ingredients that make it thick and filling.
