This business does not care about its neighbors or the community in which it resides. Every single public parking spot on the street is taken up by the vehicles they're apparently going to work on. They have cars illegally double parked making it EXTREMELY difficult and dangerous to exit any of the driveways that are along this stretch. so much so that I've almost been in 3 accidents because I cannot see around these vehicles until I'm IN the street. They are also constantly parking their vehicles in the street (whether it be partially or fully), doing business in the street, and their employees (maybe the owner) likes to park in front of our drive and then give a death glare when asked to move. Because all of the public parking is occupied, their customers will also park in the street or in front of the residential drives. The area looks run down and absolutely TRASH like a meth heads lawn with all of the busted down cars everywhere. Not to mention they have multiple vehicles sitting there for weeks. Never give business to one that does not care about its community. Either move locations, scale down, or shut down. read more

I happen to be in the neighborhood so I stopped by. I spoke with Chuck and he started making phone calls to check the price of the part and service. They would've had to order a part and other things. They said they could do it but I need my car back same day. Most recently, they replaced the AC compressor on my Suburban and the total cost of parts + labor was less than it had costed to recharge the system last month when I didn't have time to do the replacement. I called Runge to get help diagnosing why my car was not shifting into gear. After a little troubleshooting, I brought the car in, talked about the process, and costs. First impression, these guys are amazing! I really believe they can work on anything issue you bring. However, communication was not great. I was originally told it would take about 5 hours to repair my car. I have worked on my car before so I went in with the expectation that the work could actually take 2-3 days. They said they would give a call before any repair work was done. Pretty standard routine. Five days after I dropped my car off, I finally decided to call because I heard nothing from them and I needed the car to handle big groceries and birthday planning for my wife. They told me that the car wasn't ready and they would call when done. I asked for a time estimate and as they gave an answer, I got the impression that they annoyed that I even asked. Either way, I was given an estimate of about two days. About three days later, I called again since I heard nothing. The car still hasn't been repaired but they did get the right part which caused some delay (that one is one me). I asked again for a time estimate explaining that I needed it in time for my wife's birthday. Was told it would definitely be ready before the following Tuesday. The following Monday, I got a call and the car was ready. Chuck and I spoke for a bit, talking about the repairs, costs and other car stuff which was nice. Honestly, I don't think Chuck was the one being rude on the phone the first time I called. As for the repair, the car is running great! I can shift no problem without possibly grinding the gears into oblivion. The work is great! I'd give a 3.5 stars. Maybe other people have better experience with their communications but not knowing what was happening with the car or when it might be ready drastically altered my plans days after I dropped off the car. And, shout out to Chuck! Without the pleasant talks about cars and car culture, this would have been a lower rating. Give them a try but keep in mind that you might not hear back for longer than expected. read more

Gonna start off with, I very RARELY go out of my way to leave a review for bad service but this place cannot be left without one because I can't imagine someone else having to deal with what they put me thru! Would give 0 stars if possible but unfortunately im forced to give one undeserved star. I'm not even sure where to start with this place. Unfortunate because it was recommended to me and not only did they SCREW ME, they consistently lied to my face and then proceeded to block my phone number. Had my truck over 2 months seemingly couldn't figure out the issue with it? It was a simple oil seal leak at the back of the oil pan to the turbo feed and somehow it led to $1000 later and they try sending me home with a CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON (which btw was NOT on the first time it went in) they never ONCE reached out to me first to talk about cost or pricing or repair time estimate, they just seemed to do the work and then assumed I'd pay? After "fixing" the oil leak they sent me home with it only for me to have to bring it back that same day because of a fuel leak...an issue I've never encountered on this truck especially considering the entire fuel system was recently replaced. Eventually I guess they got sick of me calling on a daily basis for updates which shouldn't have been an issue if they cared about customer service and had actually reached out to me themselves (and the stories they gave me day-to-day always changed slightly so it was obvious I was being lied too) and they blocked my phone number, and when I went into the shop and asked why the phone won't ring when I call them, Tim told me "uhhhh yeah yeah we've had some issues with the phone lines here lately" interestingly enough I could call from a different phone number and it would ring and I'd get an answer almost instantly, almost like im not an idiot and wasn't born yesterday?? Not sure how I ended up in the shitshow of a mess they put me in with this truck that again (went in originally for a SIMPLE silicone oil seal failure which in my mind is a relatively simple fix) they then tried telling me my alternator was bad (not possible as it is less than 2 years old) and they somehow killed a battery less than 8 months old that has never been an issue till before it was in Runges possession. eventually I got fed up and had it towed to a more reputable shop capable of working on a truck of my scope and shockingly (I say this so sarcastically), Runge had installed the wrong type of battery, did not fix the fuel leak they charged me $832 to fix which never should have been an issue in the first place. They installed incorrectly sheathed new wiring on the glo plug system, left the oil temperature sensor UNPLUGGED, and "donated" me a new battery which would have been GREAT if it was the correct kind of battery :( Interestingly enough the new shop ran a diagnostic test and fixed my truck within 6 days of being there (Runge had my truck in its possession from July 26 until October 8 when I finally had enough and had it towed to a new place) funnily enough the oil leak they also charged me to fix was again...also incorrectly "fixed". After the new shop was able to fix the myriad of issues that weren't there before it went to Runge mind you this is on a VERY well mechanically maintained vehicle, I had it back on the road and it hasn't posed me any new issues! It's shameful that such a minor and simple fix turned into a shitload of other issues they seemingly couldn't figure out and were causing themselves. So either they just straight up don't care about their customers, they have no fucking idea what the hell they're doing, or they just saw a young kid and thought "this is an opportunity to make money here" and tried to scam me!! DO NOT for the love of god waste your time here or your money unless you want to get lied and or scammed this place is a fucking shame!!! I genuinely have NEVER in my life had such shitty service from any kind of mechanic shop and I thank them for this amazing learning lesson, Avoid. At. All. Costs! read more

When I told Tim that I was hoping to sell my car back to Hyundai, he went above and beyond to make sure I had all the information I should have before trying to negotiate a sale, which was exceptionally kind of him, really, because I was frustrated with Geico and I think I was not so pleasant to deal with (I'm sorry!). I see lots of unfavorable reviews and the first few are good, I advise anyone checking them out to look further. firstly I used them once, their prices are too high. The issue was with my last car before I bought another years later. They told me to replace the brakes which they did at quite a high price, that didn't fix the issue. It was actually only a sensor I needed which another auto repair did!!! I never asked for my money back, the rude person who runs it told me "well, I don't want to say the car is old, but..."..What the heck did that have to do with them not diagnosing the actual problem. Today I called to see what their price would be on my newer car to replace some sensors. Again Rude very RUDE and ARROGANT and he hung up on me. I've been getting my car fixed here on and off over the years and am always pleased with the results. They are honest and will let you know if they see something that needs to be done soon. Rarely have they sprung an issue with my car on me. They tell me that my break pads will need to be replaced soon rather that now. It's a bit chaotic in the waiting room, but that is partially because a lot of people trust them, so they are busy. I've never bothered to write a review bc I didn't love them but at the same time wanted to be reasonable. At times I never felt heard when explaining an issue, only with Tim, and sure enough the problem would still be there when I'd get the car back saying it was fixed. He'd always make some half cocked excuse. I even had the issue years ago when owning a pretty reliable Honda. But, bc it was close I'd bring my car when I couldn't get the car any further.I've never once been impatient even when having to bring a car back for a problem not fixed. I've been patient with missed promised deadlines which have been numerous. In 2011, I bought a Fiat bc of the price and I had to park on street- it was easier. The car overall served me well for 11 years and had all the usual problems a car would have when you drive it 7 days a week to work: battery, alternator, door handle issues. It started where Tim was basically making me feel like these were exotic problems and going on and on about Fiats. I've brought this car in for a tire warning only to get it back saying it was just a bad sensor, and not even two weeks finding out I was driving on a tire bubble which couldve led to a blow out- and this is a tire place. I had that issue fixed at Walmart. It's Chrysler not some exotic mfg. At the end of the summer, I noticed an issue where I couldn't fill with gas. The pump would cut off. I explained problem to Tim and got car back in a few hours with him saying- you are topping off your gas & youve caused something that is just a reset. Taken aback, I told him- I never top off my gas. I can't even get a gallon in it without the pump cutting off. Oh, but I'm a silly woman- trust him- Tim knows all. Got the car back straight to the pump, still couldn't put gas in it without nursing the pump. Already long story short, the car was in there 4 times to the tune of about $1200 and the problem never fixed. One time they claimed to change a battery and I swear on my dads grave, I don't think they changed it. My battery was only two years old and I had a warranty for it. Tim was quick to remove that charge and that makes me feel like he knew. After the 4th time, I asked Chuck why they couldn't bother driving to pump after the alleged repairs and in fact see that problem wasn't fixed. Chuck told me to bring car back in and they would make it right- no charge. I got the car in when I was able to borrow a friends car. Two weeks that car sat at Runge's. Each time a different excuse when I'd call for an update. Talking to Tim is like talking to a kid who has a different excuse why his book report isn't in yet. He couldn't read my phone number, the wrong part was sent, his son drove all the way to Rockford for the part. Occasionally, I'd stop in - 5 times- 3 times I saw the car buried in the back and not moved for over a week. Then 2 times the car sat up on the same rack for a week. Finally, I needed my car back. I went in, Tim without much explanation lowered the car and had it driven around front. When I asked for him to write what he did to the car: he said "Have the mechanic call me, dont want you to lose anything in translation." When I asked him to write it down, he went into a tirade about Fiats, Mini Coopers being shit etc. Slammed the door and walked away. So $1200 spent on a problem never fixed and I have my doubts they did half of the things they said they did. They never made it right as promised. I feel like Chuck was always a bit more responsive but he really seems to have nothing to do with the business any longer. Everything, I've looked up on my problem is not some exotic Fiat issue. It happens with all makes from Toyota to Fiats. It can be the emissions canister or as simple as the intake hose. So obviously Tim just decided to take $1200 of my hard earned money and just berate me for buying a Fiat. So basically Tim's business practice is to take money off you for repairs never made, when he hopes you'll get rid of the car but you don't bc you are caring for an elderly parent and can't afford one- then he'll say he will make it right. He'll sit on your car for weeks, never call you, if you call him he'll pick a,b,c excuse he has in rotation and when you can't get by without your car after it has sat unrepaired for 2 weeks- he'll hand it back to you. He FLAT OUT TOLD ME HIS KID finally got THE RIGHT PART a week ago. Then when I get the car back and ask him what was done, he refused to write it down so he can't get caught up in any legal action - because he knows damn well he did nothing to the car for 2 weeks and instead sold me prior $1200 repairs (which I have my doubts were ever done). I took my 2017 Kia Soul into the dealership for an oil change & a check up. Was told by the mechanic that I would need to replace all 4 tires (that they were extremely low treads) & replace my front break pads. Instead of paying thousands of dollars, I posted in my local Facebook group asking for suggestions. A lot of people suggested Runge's. The man I spoke with at Runge's said that he would feel like he was stealing from me if he changed/took my tires because the treads were fine & they looked almost brand new. I did need a patch in my rear tire, had my breaks & routers replaced at a very decent price! After they fixed up my Kia, I brought in my Dad's 2008 Rav 4 in because I was told it had an oil leak. Luckily I brought it in when I did because my car was about to run out of oil! Positives: friendly, great customer service, fast turn around, low prices, honest & they call you back super fast! Particularly, Tim, the owner went above and beyond providing superior customer service until I had complete satisfaction! The gentleman that work in his shop are also very friendly, professional, and hard-working!
