McCullough had installed a new dual-fuel HVAC system a week and a half ago. Two nights ago the interface screen of the thermostat froze during a failed software update of the heat pump, and I called for service. Dillon Revells came out and was able to check out the system and be sure that everything was working. He understood my concerns about security, which is why our thermostat is not on the internet. (I'm a computer engineer and work in security.) This morning he called me. He had researched a faster and more reliable way to update the heat pump software that did not require an Internet connection. He dropped by and performed the update, and we discussed options for future software updates. Dillon has excellent knowledge of the principles behind the operation of the systems, and can explain clearly how it works and what he's doing to fix problems. I was very impressed with his initiative, in particular digging up a solution after the first visit. I'd been happy with McCullough's work in the installation, and working with Dillon more than reinforced that impression. The blower on our -2 year old system went out the day before Thanksgiving. I called at about 9:30 that morning and was put on the schedule. Due to the late call-in we were the last stop for the day. Technician found the blower motor controller was toast and the Carrier warehouse was closed for the Thanksgiving weekend. We limped through the weekend on fireplace heat, thank goodness. Got a call at 7:45 Monday morning from the tech to say he had the replacement part on his truck. 5 stars for service, -1 star because the blower went out after -2 years (not McCullough's fault). read more

We had a great experience working with McCullough. I put in a request to be contacted on their website and immediately got a call to setup a consultation regarding a new system. Alex came out and extensively went through our needs with us and some challenges we were facing cooling off our common area. He talked with us and showed us what we would need to do for about an hour. We felt very taken care of. When we moved forward, they scheduled the install and Glass and Mark were our installation technicians. They were great! Very careful and respectful and left the place cleaner than when they arrived. Be fair with the readers. 1. If you find all the issues with the condenser, why have I never received an offer from your company to solve those issues? 2. The installer mgr did not offer me a solution. He said it might need ductwork, but before he needed to talk to the service manager. After that, I never received a final suggestion or offer. If I am lying, please share the proposal number here. 3. Your company became quiet for long period, only after Carrier enter in the conversation that you sent the installer mgr. My suggestion is to learn and to admit the mistakes, then use them to become better. Next customer, reach them first instead of just replying to a review. It is just not professional. read more

Let me start off by saying I've used them before and the team was great on those smaller jobs. Last week my AC went out and I called them for a quote. Trying to arrange repairs on a weekend is challenging and I had another company who could do the job but was awaiting final confirmation of some part availability on Monday. Mccoulough offered competitive pricing and said they had a crew and the equipment to start on Monday. I told them I would wait to hear from the other company and decide Monday morning. This started a frequent text message chain of "What would it take to get you to use us and sign the contract today?" We negotiated back and forth and I told them if you have the equipment and can do the job on Monday I'll sign. Based on my discussions with other companies I was told that getting a 2 stage AC unit is harder than a single stage so I wanted to be sure they had the equipment. We agreed and I informed the other company I was going to use Mccoulough. About 3 hours later I get a message from them that the two stage systems aren't available anywhere in stock and would I do a single stage at the rock bottom price which was more than the dual stage system. When I asked what changed in the couple of hours since we signed the response was: "Sorry I didn't check availability before we agreed on the contract. I've always gotten the parts I needed in the past so didn't think it would be a problem." This was after I explicitly asked that they confirmed the availability of the equipment. Now I'm stuck trying to find another contractor after their pressure sales tactics and failure to follow through. Not sure this was an intentional bait and switch but the outcome is the same. McCullough continues their low quality performance. My 6 year old Carrier unit stopped cooling last night. This unit has a 10 year warranty. I called McCullough because the unit is under warranty. I was scheduled for an appointment today. Then got a call back that it would be an after hours call at a higher rate. I then got a call back stating that I was blacklisted as a customer for complaining about my original installation (poor at best). What gives with these folks??? read more

Maybe they are great when it comes to new unit installation, but when it comes to diagnostic issue and checkup, consider going elsewhere. I first paid $89 diagnostic fee to check on possible growth found by an air duct cleaner. Their report says "found a little growth" with no evidence found in the report. And they pitched me the $1000+ DustFree Active Air purifying system that I am not convinced would fix the growth issue, and an annual contract for maintenance, which the technician said it would include cleaning the condenser. I decided to go for the annual contract and look for third opinion on the growth issue. On the day of the maintenance appointment, the technician spent 20 minutes top doing pretty much what they did during the diagnostic without any sort of cleaning. I called in to understand what was happening and requested to cancel my contract since i pretty much paid for the diagnostic twice. That didn't go too well and they insisted on charging me another $100 plus change for the "maintenance" work they have done. I am very disappointed with how i was pitched and how the work was actually performed. In addition, i got the report from the third opinion regarding the growth issue - there is no growth found. Very good service. Maintenance inspection On time

My upstairs 12-year old Lennox system was not cooling well, and I was told I have a coil leak. I got three bids for top-of-the-line variable-speed systems (one Lennox and two Carrier) from locally-owned but large companies that I expect will still be in business in 10 years. McCullough was one of two of the bidders that determined our upstairs ductwork was undersized -- we upgraded from a two-ton system to a two-stage 3-ton system in 2011 and that work included a new return but no other ducts were replaced, resulting in a system that still had two tons of capacity. The McCullough bid included further enlarging the new return and enlarging all the ducts in the attic to allow for three tons of airflow. They also had a tech come out for a free "second opinion", who confirmed the coil leak. Finally, the total bid, including the duct work was $1k less than the other Carrier bidder, who didn't include enlarging all of the ducts. Winner winner! Installation was at the start of April, 2024 -- two days after I accepted the bid and McCullough got everything done in one day. The installers were just excellent, tidy, and really knew what they were doing -- I was with them much of the time (I find the process interesting) and really didn't have to point anything out. Now, air flow upstairs now is excellent and my upstairs home office with south-facing windows actually stays cool -- it now has a dedicated long-run duct from the plenum instead of branching from a secondary box (the run might be 30 feet long). I couldn't be happier with this result. The new Carrier 3-ton Infinity system is just dead silent -- I can't hear the outside unit at all when more than 10 feet away, the sides don't rattle like the Lennox system did, and I had to look for the spinning fan to make sure it was on, which is also variable-speed. So far, the system runs in low speed most of the time (it's not 100 degrees outside yet) and the thermostat often says "dehumidifying", which sounds good to me. While the system can't be controlled by my previous Nest thermostat because of the 60+ speeds it can run at (previous system had two speeds: 2 and 3 ton), the included Carrier touch-screen thermostat is fine and can be remote-controlled like the Nest, in case I forget to tell it I'm on vacation. Yes, this system is pricey, but with inflation, actually not out of line with what I paid for the Lennox top-of-the-line system in 2011. And these variable-speed systems don't have start capacitors that need to be replaced every few years. That was actually the majority of my service calls (different company--one of the locals bought out by a private equity company), where the tech seemingly diagnosed a "weak $20 capacitor" every time that he was willing to replace for $100. McCullough also handled the equipment registration that is required to get the 10 year parts warranty -- something that never got done for my 2011 Lennox system. Also, if I sign up for annual maintenance, the labor warranty is also extended to 10 years, so that seems like a no-brainer. Finally, McCullough is still locally-owned, which was one of my requirements. No hesitation in recommending McCullough for A/C installation/service. Be sure to include them when getting your mandatory 3 bids. read more

When I requested an estimate on a new HVAC system, your human sales associate came up to my house not wearing a mask at all. When I asked if he had a mask before coming into my house, he started to pull up a bandana. When I asked for something more protective before coming into my house, he then reported he had no real mask in his truck at all. This is a person who interacts with many other people all day, indoors and apparently without mask at least some of the time. Aside from his own safety, this is a terrible sign of how your company considers customer safety and this is just something I can see, what happens in my attic out of my sight? I cancelled the estimate and will find another company who is more mindful of safety. read more

We bought a Carrier heat pump system and a 5 year warranty from McCullough 5 years ago and had our yearly inspections as required per the warranty. On the 5th year inspection the technician said we needed over $1,000 in repairs. Needless to say I was very unhappy. I called the office and spoke to the Service Manager, Sheldon, and explained that for $7500 the unit should not have the fan motor rusted. He listened and was very courteous. He texted me back promptly and said they would do all the repairs at no cost to us. They scheduled the repair at our covenience. The technician, Kyle, was very friendly, professional and efficient.
