I absolutely give this place 5 stars. I'm only in Honolulu for a week and needed a quick cut. I didn't have an appointment and just walked in, was first told it would be a 20 minute wait since I didn't have an appointment.... Literally 3 minutes after she's ready for my cut, does an amazing job and was awesome and nice and I highly recommend anyone to come and stop and of course make an appointment first so we keep everyone on schedule. I walked along the Ala Wai from Kūhiō Ave. and passed Fantasic Sams up (place where I used to get my haircut as a kid in the 80s cause they were asking way too much). While visiting Hawaii for the weekend I w to run Music Ekiden Relay I wanted to get a haircut prior to the event, so i got on Yelp to look for the closest barbershop near Waikiki that can fade cut African American hair, and found McCully Barber Shop based off of great reviews. The walk from Waikiki was 1.35 miles to get to this barber, but well worth the it. The barber was very nice, and answered my questions over the phone about prices, and cutting. As for visiting again I'm quite sure I will that I will during my future visits to Oahu. I will end this review with come prepared also because this barbershop takes cash only. My haircuts are straightforward and should be simple. #2 on the sides and back, and leave it just long enough on the back so my stiff hair doesn't stick up. This seems to be a challenge for many places but not at McCully Barber Shop. It doesn't matter which one of the ladies is cutting my hair. They all do a great job. I visit Honolulu once or twice a year- from now on Kathy at McCully Barber is going to be a regular stop. I got a #1 medium fade with 1 1/4" scissor trim on top. Her precision is flawless. My first time here and let me just say, it's one of the best places to check out. This place is not that busy at all. The owner, which is the lady barber is welcoming and friendly, she gives you options and makes sure your cut looks good. Depending on your haircut she likes to use scissors a lot, and I don't think I mind at all because she's pretty darn good at, not the best, but good enough. The price for an average haircut is $15.70 (tax included, and only cash), which is not that bad. Overall I'm a fan, and I'm surprised this place isn't that well known. The reason why I gave this place a 4/5 stars is that not only am I a fan of the razor dominant use because it cuts evenly, but because I've been cut better. Not to say the least, this barber place isn't the best, but isn't the worst as well, it's an average haircut place that does it's job. read more
