It all depends. Most of the time at this McDonald's, you get the efficient, intelligent crew. They're fast and they get your orders right. From time to time, though, you get the B Team; well, it's more like the F Team. This morning, April 10, 2021 (Manager, here's your chance to find out who are on the F Team!), I got the F Team. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches. They got both orders wrong. To top it off, I asked for ketchup for our meal. When I got home, we found hot sauce instead. You get what you paid for. I can't be too demanding of a McDonald's. However, the frequency of bad service here is beyond normal. A customer should have choices. IF YOU EAT HERE YOU COULD GET NORO-VIRUS (FOOD POISONING). This was my last week living in California and I was visiting my family. My sister happened to be so hungry and decided she wanted to pick up McDonald's. I never had an issue with McDonald's before, so why not. several hours later I was experiencing D/N/V; which translates to diarrhea, nausea, vomiting. Which ultimately delayed me from leaving California on time. But let us remove Food poisoning from my experience at Mcdonald's, because it is clear to me that fast food employees want 15.00 minimum wage without being able to follow simple directions such as washing their hands! Which led to a Grand Finale of Food poisoning. Castro Valley McDonalds also forgot half of my sister's order and we brought the food all the way to South Hayward. We were upset but we understood that these things happen McDonald's is, after all, a busy chain. So we called the Castro valley location, and called, and called again, on both of our phones for over 15 minutes. We were hoping to just get a refund on our credit card. Finally, I got the Manager of McFoodPoisioning fine establishment her name was Maria. She made sure to tell me she was the supervisor. My sister and naturally have this routine of good cop and a bad cop so naturally, my sister did all the talking. She mentioned she was hoping to avoid sending our boyfriends down to get the reimbursement in person for the 2 Mcdoubles, 2 cheeseburgers, 1 soda because it would result in a 40 minute round trip. With the receipt, we provided the order number, the time we came through, and the dollar amount. Maria failed to listen to my sister repeatedly. She continued to tell my sister she needed the receipt. Then with us on the phone began to talk to other people. Which we would have rather her put us on hold. She continued to ask my sister questions that my sister had already provided the answers to. Then finally came up with the conclusion that we did come to her Mcdonalds. When we called the number on the receipt. It appears to me that this establishment NEEDS TO BE RETRAINED IN THE FUNDAMENTALS OF 1. CUSTOMER SERVICE, 2. CUSTOMER CONSIDERATION, 3. PROPPER FOOD HANDLING TECHNIQUES! In the end, the boyfriends had to go back in person to be treated only subpar for the inconveniences we faced. Never once did we receive an apology. Everything is relative. Compared to any other restaurant, I give this McDonald's 1 star. Compared to any other fast food joint, I'll give it 2 stars. But compared to other McDonald's, I'll give it 4 stars. So what's the correct criteria? I'm afraid in order to be useful it must be the last, because everyone knows already whether they like or dislike McDonald's in general. (Warning: the remainder of this review is parent-centric. If you are not a parent, I would not recommend dining at any McDonald's, with the possible exception of road trips.) This "Old MacDonald's", as my kid calls it, has recently been remodeled. It is clean and well designed. The play area is modern and cool, with computer games and little basketball hoops as well as the nice climbing structure. I know it's nice because I had to go up there to retrieve a frightened 2 year old who climbed higher than her comfort level at the egging of her big sister. You can easily watch the play area while standing in line. This is a good indoor play destination for cold or rainy days. Normally I don't review fast food places because of my confusion above. I get to the window to pay and the woman is in an all pink Victoria's Secret jacket and she doesn't even ask me how I'm doing or anything. Just takes my card and rings me up. The next window where you pick up your food, I'm just waiting and then the woman just hands me my food, doesn't say ANYTHING, and just hands me my food. Driving through Castro Valley with a friend, we needed to grab a bite after a long day of labor intensive work... Definitely worked up an appetite! Wanted something quick so we stopped at the drive thru for cheeseburgers and fries... They didn't take long which is good. BUT, as we ate, the burger patty was cold and the bread was stale! Disappointment! Ok, at least we had the large fries to make up for it. But, uh oh! My large fries was only half full.. Equivalent to a full medium fries... And soggy I must say. What happened to the best French fries ever!?! Epic fail on food and I feel like I just threw my money away... Not a good feeling. I decided to give them a second chance. Since everything was on the colder side, maybe their sundaes were better. In my past experiences, sundaes in that plastic cup can get messy because they fill that cup so full, when you take the lid off, the soft serve ice cream just spills out. I'm sure you all know what I mean. It can get messy... But not here. Keep in mind.. Things tend to be minimized... It looked like my sundae was only filled 2/3 of the way... C' mon now! There were 9 cars in the drive thru so my boyfriend and I decided to go inside to order. There was a small line, being held up by a teenage girl, who was on the phone getting her friends order, one side of fries at a time. This girl was incredibly rude, snapping at people behind her in line and being generally hostile. Michelle, the woman taking her order was so patient and kind, even as she saw others getting irritated and impatient. She even helped the girl count her money and get everything in order and paid for. All I can say is Michelle is a saint and deserves a raise/promotion for her grace and kindness under pressure. Waiting about 25-30 minutes and watched everyone in the drive thru come and go. Doors are all locked, no way to get in and check on our food. Tried calling line was busy. After a long day from work...I drove 45 minutes (hungry) just so I can beat traffic and meet my fiancé before we head off to somewhere important together.
