    Mama burger and steak fries
    Tina A.

Mama burger and fries was $25 before tip Mama burger - big, juicy, and all American cheese, ketchup, mustard, relish. Tastes like a kraft and heinz poster child. Soft white bun. Overall good standard American burger Fries- steak cut and large portion however some were unevenly cooked or left over from another batch. Hearty and standard For almost $30 , I would expect a super gourmet burger or like a fine dining experience. However I felt a little cheated. Shake shack or in n out would be half or even one quarter of the price and still be a better pick Gonna give it up to the local business though, everyone's tryna survive out here, however a better business practice would to post the prices clearly or have a menu outside

Mama burger with cheese. Liked my condiments on the side so I could dip

4++ and old school neighborhood type diner/grill. Seems to be a favorite among locals and people who grew up in the area. And for very good reason. The burgers are delicious. The service is friendly, and the shakes are fantastic. Note: this place is cash only (I believe - it's been a while) I came here a few years ago with my brothers and their families so we had a bunch of kids in tow. It was a big hit for everybody. Such a great time in a family friendly environment. I came here with my girlfriend at the time and we split a mama burger, a milkshake, and fries. I remember everything being really delicious and the kids loved it as well. Nothing too fancy just the delicious well-made old-school favorites. The location itself has that neighborhood charm to it and the parking isn't bad because they have their own lot. Honestly, I've been dreaming of a day where I can come back and have a burger here it's been a while. I probably will hit this place up next time I visit my parents.

Momma burgers medium well add bacon.

This is the best hamburger in the East Bay. The service is fast, friendly, and efficient. No, eat in your order. Park in the parking lot and wait for them to bring you your food. The only con is the parking lot is right on the corner of a turn that cars fly through. Oh, and CASH ONLY! Only open Friday and Saturday, but so worth the wait. One order of fries is enough for a family of 4. We ordered two momma burgers (1/2 pound each) and added bacon. The bacon was $8 total ($4 per burger). I definitely should have went with a baby burger, I wasn't ready (in best Kevin Hart impression).

Well no more dine in, or ice cream but perfect Burger & fries to go!

Neighborhood burger spot open for over 40 plus years! Thanks to covid only open 2 days a week. Friday & Saturday. Call ahead they will bring to your car. Simple menu not like before covid. But still delicious! Mama Burger (1/2 lb), Papa Burger (1 lb) and fries... And the kindest staff still fast & friendly. No more dine in, but Thank you Vals for still being open!

Review date Sept. 9 2023 Val's has always been a great spot for a burger. Wanted to leave a review to inform folks that there is currently no dine in. See attached photo.

Ask the Community - Val's Burgers

Do they have indoor dining yet?

I don't think they will. It has been closed for years.

Are they really that afraid of Covid that they won't open back up? It was always packed when I went there! Come back. Im not a fan of Togo orders.I wanna sit down, have a papa burger with bacon basket of fries and a mint chocolate chip milkshake!

Val's is still open on Friday and Saturday for take out only. The shakes are only available certain times of the year. Ask them when you place your order. I got a chocolate shake last Saturday and the shake is made with real ice cream. They have…

Does anyone know if they are serving milkshakes yet or is it still burger and fries only? I don't care about the price! I just want a Val's milkshake!

As of my last drive by, several weeks ago, there was nothing being offered. The handwritten menu that was in the window was gone and it was dark inside. On an earlier stop that handwritten menu had only a burger and fries, no milkshake. We all…

Are they back to their full menu? If not, what are they selling?

Just burgers and fries as of about a month ago.

Anyone know when they're open? I tried to go and they were closed and didn't see hours posted on the store.

    Only open Friday's & Saturday's since Covid.

    Is Val's still takeout only?

As of Jan 21, 2023 they are still takeout only. But they said they hoped to be opening the dining room again soon. No milkshakes at least until the dining room is opened. They did take orders until about 5:30 p.m. that day, but I think the hours…

    Do they still make milkshakes?

Is Val's back open with a normal schedule and indoor dining?

They are open Fri & Sat, no indoor dining. Menu is burgers & Fries and maybe drinks

Val's is open! However, you can only call to place an order. Then, wait outside toward the back entrance. A person will bring you the order packaged up. Yes, I feel the same way about Val's. I miss sitting at the counter, eating my Mama size burger…

Are they on DD or GH for online orders?

No. They are a cash only restaurant and most recently are taking orders at their door and delivering them to your car.

Has anyone actually seen it open recently? I have driven by 3 times in 2 months and always closed. It appears abandoned. No website and msg on the phone never changes.

They are open Friday and Saturday only from 11am till about 5 or until they run out of food. Call ahead and order or pull into the lot and order from the car. A mamma with cheese and fries will run you $21.

The standout dish is the short rib massaman curry. The moment we took our first bite, we both looked at each other because it was that good! The restaurant itself is small and cute, but my mom and I were seated right away at around noonish on Sunday! That might have been because everyone was busy at world cup parties, though. We ordered: - thai iced teas - the khao hom waffle - samosas - roti with curry dip - koong karee The thai teas were unfortunately on the milky side, and weren't very strong tasting. I recommend the lychee iced tea instead! When I used to go, I always got the thai tea pancake but they have since removed it from their menu. Although this was a pretty devastating revelation, I went with their waffle instead. I thought that the waffle still super delicious, and I loved that it had coconut meat cooked into the batter. It comes garnished with fruit and coconut flakes, which was a plus. While I thought it was a delicious choice, I do not think it was a proper replacement for my thai tea pancake. The samosas and roti were both so delicious, flavorful, and savory. The portions aren't huge, but the flavors make up for it. The koong karee was the star of the show! The prawns were so well cooked, and came in the most delicious egg & curry sauce. I loved the vegetables that came in the dish, as well. You can't go wrong with the tiger prawns, and they go so well with some jasmine rice on the side. Overall, we keep coming back for good reason! The food is always so yummy, and I would definitely recommend you give this place a try. I hope they take this review as a plea for them to bring the thai tea pancake back, though! It was that good. The wait to order wasn't too long, maybe 15 minutes? While you wait, you pass by a display of cookies and they even have samples out for everyone to try. They are a great snack while you wait for your meal. 9/10 - The ube pancakes: These were pretty solid. I didn't think that the pancakes themselves had a very strong ube flavor, if any. I think all of the flavor was in the ube coconut sauce that they come with. However, there is only sauce on the first layer so you might want to get extra! It is an additional $2.75 or so to get the extra side of ube sauce, though. The pancakes themselves could have been a little more moist and fluffy, as they were a bit dry and dense. I loved the fruit and sauce, so that definitely made up for it! I'm glad that I got to try, but I don't think I'd get them again. Instead, I would get a regular pancake and a side of the ube coconut cream! 8/10 - The chorizo burrito: My bf said that this was also a pretty good option. We sat in the back portion of the restaurant, which seems to possibly be a new addition for them? I'm not sure. I liked all of the picture framework in the front of house, with cute bacon and egg play on jokes. Menus are worn out. Could use a reprint or lamination, but that's minor. Food: Ordered the beignets, a corned beef hash breakfast meal (husband's dish), and a 3 egg pancake combo for myself. Yum! The beignets are more doughy than I expected, but tasted fresh. This is not your princess and the frog beignet, more of a doughnut puff type? I don't know how to describe it exactly, haha. The staff was accommodating in putting their vanilla and chocolate sauces on the side for dipping which I appreciated. Pancake was good, eggs cooked well (I love a place that knows how to cook a soft scramble), while their home fries are not what I expected (I think I typically prefer a more crispy potato), this showed me that I can possibly save myself time in the future when making at home. While not crispy, the home fries were delightful, entirely cooked through with a thin crisp edge. Staff: very kind! You know it is a family run business. The only thing I found mildly off putting was that one of the young servers wore his pajama bottoms. It did not feel like something a server should wear. But, if the place is a "come as you are" kind of a place, I understand. Overall: we will come back. Good food for a good price. Overall a good atmosphere and positive vibe. Just an excellent place to be!…read more A friend had heard rave reviews about their authentic Argentinian empanadas and we were so happy to come and try it out on a Saturday afternoon. Parking was busy (the lot is shared with Trader Joe's) but we managed to find a spot and head into the busy but not packed cafe. There is a large assortment of empanadas, from meat options like chorizo and chicken, to vegetarian like corn and onion, to sweet options too like apples. The menu also boasts lots of great drinks including mate tea! Lucky us, the empanadas we ordered weren't in stock so we had to wait ~10 for freshly baked ones. They came out buttery and piping hot, even with little hand-stamped letters on them so you know what you're eating, and it was so delicious. Most are about $5.50 each. Add oregano chimichurri for a bit extra if you want or pair with a tea, but these empanadas really hit the snacky spot. Lots of wooden tables with fresh flowers make Pampas a great space to chat with friends or to sit and do some work. The most standout feature was the friendly and efficient staff who seem to build connections with everybody who walks in the door. Worth a drive to Castro Valley! Especially if you bring cash for a 10% discount off a dozen :)

First time here…read more I've been obsessed with empanadas since May when I was in Puerto Rico ...... I ordered an empanada of chorizo and of chicken with a side of chimchurri and a Cortado to go The cashier seemed a little bit overwhelmed I noticed she told the customer before me to hold before he placed his order and told me the same thing Inside has communal seating no outside seating available Menu is easy to read and prices are reasonable Parking lot is shared with Trader Joe's so needless to say parking can be hard to come by This venue does offer wine and beer (aside from coffee) Empanadas were OK Guess it gives me a reason to go back to Puerto Rico AYYYY Cortado was an 8/10 Gave me that extra perk Inside is clean and organized Lots of seating available Menu is easy to ready
