The McDonald's in Elburn, Illinois has a serious problem with either incompetence or dishonesty when it comes to honoring app discounts. On Saturday, November 15th, I opened the McDonald's app, added the $1.00 coffee offer to my drive-thru code, and placed my order at the window. The discount didn't apply. When I showed the employee my phone, she said their system was rebooting and refused to honor the deal. A few days later, I tried again at the same location with the same $1.00 coffee offer. The discount still didn't apply. The attendant told me to refresh the app, but even after doing that and generating a new code, nothing changed. When I tried to re-add the offer, the app said it had already been used. I told them to cancel my order, but later found out I was still charged. Paying three times what was expected for a cup of coffee might seem trivial, but it's frustrating and unacceptable. Either the employees don't know how to correctly process discounts, or they're choosing not to. McDonald's needs to fix this issue immediately so customers aren't overcharged for offers the company advertises but doesn't honor. Buyer beware at this location. read more

Overall terrible. Only pro is the location-- convenient stop on the way out of town. But.... Drive thru only- despite the doors posting "come on in" and their COVID mitigation plans. Waited forever in the drive thru lane only to be told it's cash only. Computers must be down... the kid working the first window (pay) was nice enough, but the second window staff was rude. When we found we were missing a drink and pointed it out she was very defensive. Then as we peeked in our bags to be sure our order was complete before pulling away, she barked at us to pull ahead. DO NOT GO TO THIS MCDONALDS! they are horrible. terrible customer service - especially joselyn. she has been rude numerous times, to not only myself, but friends, family, etc. tonight, I went through the drive thru and asked for 2 separate orders. i was paying separately from the other person i was with. we were using 2 different phones and using two different app codes. i specifically told them i was doing two different orders. you think she would've told me i couldn't use two codes in one order (cause she clearly didn't hear me say two orders, or just totally ignored it), but no, she said nothing. she took both of our app codes and told us to pull forward. i got to the window and she didn't say a word. nothing. i was using apple pay, she held the pay machine out the window, and never told me what my total was. i should've asked, but i just paid. she then told me that she put it on one order. my total should've been $1 and i got charged $11. i pulled up to the next window to speak to the manager. he claimed that we can only use one code per order even tho i clearly stayed i was doing two. then joselyn came to the window and started yelling at myself and the person i was with. she wouldn't let us get a word out and wouldn't stop talking. she asked to see the app codes, but once you use them, they go away. she totally ignored the fact that both of our app codes were gone. she said we never told the lady that took our order we wanted two orders. she claimed there was nothing they could do about it. she was very rude and not very good customer service like. to sum it up, she got in an argument with my mom this same night! apparently it was my moms fault that the computer wasn't taking her code. all in all, joselyn, and this mcdonald's are terrible. they are constantly messing up orders, charging wrong, or are rude. I'll give credit when credit is due...ill also point out how horrible a place is. Fast food, it is what it is but this screw up is just ridiculous. It's convenient, it's one of the few places to eat in this town, it is the only place besides DD that has a drive through window. Those are the pros. Cons: we have been going to this McDonald's for years because it is convenient. If I had to estimate, I would say that we have gotten our orders totally correct and including the utensils and straws needed to consume the items ordered about 5% of the time. Yes, that means 95%of the time your order is wrong, you don't have a straw to drink with or a spoon to eat oatmeal with, etc. I would never refer to this place as immaculately clean, more like not totally filthy. I go through the drive through most of the time and always check my order before I leave the area, so I can go back and get the correct items. Sometimes I just order a drink and it's wrong. I have to say that usually it is during the day that is the worst. When the high school kids are working in the evenings, believe it or not, it's better. Not sure if it is a general lack of caring or language barrier, but it just has a general atmosphere that feels like the management doesn't care about the customers. read more

She never said to pull up, I haven't been to this location and you can't see there is another window due to it being on another side of the building. I Visited at about 8 pm on a Thursday. Wife and I go through the drive-through and notice that we are missing an order of nuggets -- no big deal. So I go in to get them. The manager proceeds to tell me he put the nuggets in there personally and wants me to bring in the bag. He wanted me to bring in the bag and take each item out individually. After seeing the receipt and no nuggets, he goes to get them while telling me that a lot of customers will take items out to get free food and he knows for a fact that he put them in there. His name is Sergio I believe; I couldn't understand him after asking for it twice. He wasn't wearing a name tag. We live in Elburn, and unfortunately, this is the closest McDonald to us. This McDonald's is extremely slow. The staff is very young and they cannot handle a fast pace. They were getting orders wrong while I was there, every table was dirty, and people were running around without getting things done. I ordered from the cashier instead of the kiosk. She was rude when I commented on the chaos and filthy dining area. She said that they were "very busy." (She had previously been leaning against the wall doing nothing.) Went through the drive thru on a Friday night after a long day at work. Staff was friendly and quick, but they sold me a spoiled side salad. I was already home when I discovered it and did not have the energy to go back. Nuggets and fries were fine. My husband submitted a corporate review for me.. dissatisfied. Not the first time we had issues there.. Rotate your stock and get your act together. There are other restaurants nearby and more coming. read more

I've been meaning to post this review for a long while but they are always our of something, or either their frozen coke or their ice cream machine is down. They have no manners or any idea of what customer service is. Honestly wish this one was better because it's on the way to a family members house and the only one for miles making it a good place to stop. One time I ordered an ice cream cone and paid, turned the corner in the drive through to see my ice cream cone being heald at arms legnth out the handoff window on a 95 degree day in the summer heat waiting to collect flies and airborne pathogens. Very unsanitary. I only go here if I am extremely desperate. Bad service, unsanitary, mean employees and managment. Had a survey coupon on a previous reciept once from a different store and they wouldn't accept it because mcds had just switched to having the code on the phone the day before and the manager came over, yelled at me, and said I was scamming them. OMG! A McDonalds that trains their employees. Being paleo, I try to order plain burgers when in a rush. The Genoa and St Cjarles location say thet ca not make their sandwiches that way. Imagine my surprise as I braced for another chat with a manager when the employee siimply asked if I wanted cheese or not. Beware if you have any expectation of getting a accurate order, relinquish all hope. If you want food prepared according to world standard, you better go when it's busy. And than don't you dare add or subtract anything from the grill. 100% of the time it will be opposite of what you wanted. You might think it's because of the language barrier, nope Spanish is spoken fluently throughout the business. The constant non-work related jabbering makes you feel like you're on the outside looking in if you go inside to place your order. And you have to go inside to place your order, because it need will need to be corrected. The bathroom has never had hot water as long as I can remember. One of the blowdryers clicks off right after you push the button. The other one runs just long enough the air starts to get warm, but the airflow is very weak. I have to go and get napkins after shaking my hands off. You'll never see anyone cleaning off the tables while you're there like you do and other fast food restaurants, the dialogue behind the counter is the prime focus of the employees. No smiles no welcome no thank you's just the blank drone painful looks, make it clear they want to get back to the social interactions with the crew as fast as possible. I have read other reviews, and they seem to come to the conclusion of what are you expect it's McDonald's. But I can tell you that the Sugargrove McDonald's or the McDonald's on Randall in South Elgin are worth the drive. In both places it will be immediately obvious as the majority of their employees are high school age trying to learn something and doing the best you can. A few months back I got so fed up with every aspect of that facility, I filled out the ridiculously long survey they give you on the receipt. After reporting every short coming that myself or other family members experienced, they stopped giving receipts out at the drive-through I guess that's one sign of initiative. I normally reserve one star for dirty restaurants, although dirty is in its primary problem considering everything wrong with this facility, I wish I could give it a quarter star. Just keep on driving. Any gas station has better service, and about the same quality of food. read more

The register young man was nice, but their Apple Pay does not work on a consistent basis, per the manager. I did not bring in my debit card because they advertise Apple Pay acceptance. Somehow I still end up coming hoping things will be different but for the last 6 times I got fries they were so shitty. The first 5 times they weren't salted not one grain, and the last time the fries were cold. Not room temperature cold, cold as in not fully fried cold like someone was in a rush. The workers seem to always half ass the food and especially the managers. I can't count how many times I have heard racist comments and jokes I've heard sitting inside or through the windows that it's upsetting. It's not Caucasian people making the jokes either, it's been this one Hispanic guy making them but he's not the only one. The last time I sat inside too before the pandemic the tables were so utterly filthy, I didn't see one table clean. Dead flies by the window and live ones all over the place. Worst McDonald's I have ever been to. To mess up an order is okay when it is every now and then but this place takes pride in messing things up as much as they can. I understand if it is a bad day but every day being a bad day is too much. The only good part of it is the one guy at the drive thru in the morning. He is cool and will talk to you and is generally a good guy. The rest of the staff could be replaced with a daycare playing restaurant and still probably would be better service than what you get there. Others at the drive thru are rude and impatient. You tell them just a minute and while you are trying to figure out what everyone in the car wants they will interrupt you every 10 seconds until you order. Then once you start to order they will keep asking if that's all or anything else. Just a terrible experience. Seems like the only thing they get right is a simple breakfast order of two sandwiches but I have been burned by this place so many times with forgetting stuff and just being wrong on orders that I still have to check.
