We heard of the Kingdom trails but didn't realize how much we'd love the area and all it has to offer. The Publick house is off the main street and near the trails/Mike's Tiki Bar. It's a cool old structure/barn that has a lot of charm if you appreciate the preserved nature of old places! There's plenty of parking nearby or in the Tiki bar lot. Bikers everywhere and the place was packed. We got lucky and were seated immediately around 7:30 on Saturday evening. We'd biked all day so we were starving and started things off with poutine. We also added on some burgers and mac n' cheese. It's bar food well done because everything was delicious. The poutine was massive and the 3 of us devoured that dish. Normal stuff that took forever. As for the food, it was hit and miss. I got a Greek salad as a starter, and it was a lovely presentation and even better to taste. I really enjoyed that. My husband ordered a Caesar salad and said it was fine. As for the entree, we ordered the salmon, which had a citrus marinade. I actually never took a photo of our entree, but I'm not sure why. I probably just forgot. Anyway, it was brushed with marmalade, I believe. At least, that's what it tasted like to me... but underneath the top minimally placed glaze, it had no seasoning whatsoever. I just found it to be okay, nothing great, but nothing bad either. It was served with white rice, which was quite plain, nothing added by way of flavor or anything else. We had also asked for some bread, but we never got it. We kept waiting, but it never arrived, and we asked that the charge be removed from our check, which they did. We had enough food between the two of us, but aside from the great start with salads, the meal became unimpressive and forgettable from there on out. We won't be returning for a variety of reasons, mostly that we don't live anywhere near there, and the only reason we ate there in the first place was because we couldn't find anything else open or available to us on that particular evening.

My grilled chicken pesto sandwich was charred beyond belief, as was my friend's burger. Everything looked pretty well done in general. The light was on and lady buzzed us in as we pulled into the parking lot, and she saw us. Fortunately, she had a room. The hotel/motel? is under new management, run by a very sweet young couple. And the rooms were clean, cosy and comfortable enough if a little run down. The sound proofing is very poor for which I removed a star as we can hear the toilet flushing, water running, cars and every other sound from the lot and the neighbouring rooms. But we too had an early start so were not bothered by it. However, if you are looking for a good night's sleep and are a light sleeper, you need another room, perhaps they have more quieter rooms to the back of the building? The motel/lodge does not have a breakfast place, but uses the restaurant attached, which seems to be very popular. And as nobody had reviewed this place yet, I wanted to help out.
