I used to avoid this place as it was a complete dump... but, as I rode by last week, I decided to stop for some water as I was biking. I was pleasantly surprised to see the whole place had been remodeled! It had a more open feel and was much lighter inside. A very pleasant and welcome surprise. =) It is amazing how a place looks, can in the end, change one's perception of how good the food really is. I am once again, a regaler at McDonalds! I headed out to the Golden Arches seeking something on the wild side. Something from the past with experience. Something that satisfied the inner cockles of my soul. A Happy Meal could not be any happier at most places. It is satisfying, one of a kind and exactly what I needed. I scream More, More, More as I lust after what I seek.. It's McDonald's, the place where Ronald McDonald always has a happy face. He must've found his happy place.. There is contentment to be found with the Golden Arches.. They are all not the same. You can find that which you seek, It may just take some looking, but I am keeping the faith that the real deal does exist out there. San Rafael, you need to get back to where you belong.. Find passion and purpose in what you do and excellence in what you provide. It is not worthwhile if you do not give it 100%. Anything worth doing is worth doing well, don't you think? Employees are rude. Always check your order before you leave. This is one of the worst McDonald's I've been to. I understand it's fast food and service isn't an expectation. Orders get botched constantly. read more

Used their receipt offer to get a free burger I had the validation code on my phone however, when I went to pay was told that I needed to write the number on my receipt asked him if there was a pen I could borrow and told me no that he couldn't take my order unless I got one and wrote it down on the receipt. Additionally, the store smells like bleach. read more

I went to the drive truth Magaly told me that I'm very stress you have to know what you want before you coming here because I'm very busy and stress out when I got to the window I told her if she gets so stress in the window she shouldn't work there she should not take that position because costumer service is important even at Macdonald's then she said you have no idea how stressful is working here is so many cars I understand that but you have to be nice with the customers then I told her I want 2 ketchup and she give me a handful that's way they can get a raise because they waisted a lot of the profits by giving so much unnecessary complementary stuff. Would like that can give better training to employees who has contact with customers. I hope she can stress out when she gets home otherwise she will having a hard time doing a good job at her job read more

I normally don't write reviews, but if you try to get a meal in the morning around 615-630 they don't open even though the time says they open at 6 this is the 3rd time I've had this experience, but I'm sure this has happened to other people as well. read more

This is called fast food right? NOT at this location! Extremely slow service and you wait and wait and wait while most of the staff stand around laughing and joking. Not sure if there is a manager? Maybe they are one of the ones i saw? The general feeling is that your burger or breakfast was thrown together from a distance. This used to be a reliably fast, good McDonald's. Have rarely visited in the past 2-3 years, as I've gone more into salads / veggies. Needed a "fix" today and at 3:30pm found the place almost deserted (from the drive-through perspective anyway). I had to wait at the ordering "speaker" for some time for someone to ask for my order. Nobody in front of me (or behind). Got to the pymt window. Was immediately asked for pymt, which I had ready. Took f.o.r.e.v.e.r for the glum young woman to figure out the change (from a simple Twenty) I mean, forever! She did not seem to be talking or listening to anyone (distracted). We all know the machine told her the exact amount to return. While I (kept) waiting, I couldn't help but notice the sign by her window stating that they are always looking for upbeat HAPPY people. Hmm...Even if the cashier was new, the transaction should not have taken so long. Eventually (still, no smile or eye contact) she gave me my change and I drove to the next window. Where there was nobody around. (Yes, I get it: I was in between busy times, but still...) I waited. Waited. Waited. FINALLY the food came out. No smile. Just the question "Do you want ketsup?". Nope. Left for home. What a disappointment 7 minutes later when I got there. Had decided to try the new (to me) "Signature Crafted" Bacon Smokehouse burger (w/ small fries). As usual, the fries were perfect. The burger: not so much. Nice bun, toasted just enough. Contents: dry and bland. Could barely see / taste the bacon. One thin cheese slice never did melt. BBQ sauce was the only thing that perked this up. There needed to be more, but any more would have completely overpowered the rest. The onion rings did not look anything like the photos. They are 3/4-inch and smaller segments of thinly sliced rings, which is fine. But the were dry and hard, having nearly reached burnt status. Many fell out of the burger when I first unwrapped it. They were beyond just pleasantly "crunchy". (Did I mention that they were hard??) Overall, pretty disappointing and I won't ever order again, on the slim chance I crave another fast food fix. And want to gamble on this location again. Too much sleepy time there today. read more

You know, judging from the other reviews you'd think this McDonalds was terrible or something. It's not. I've been three times in the last two weeks or so, and it has been excellent each time. I got a twenty piece chicken nugget right before closing, they made them fresh for me and it was delicious. I had a big breakfast at 5:30 AM and it was decent (I wish their pancakes were tastier, but whatever). They even let me substitute real eggs for the big breakfast. Everyone was polite and the hours of business are great -- better than anywhere else in San Rafael that I know of. They even decked the place out for Halloweeen, fun stuff. read more

Decided to try my hand at ordering in person and to my surprise I had excellent service. I was able to order right away. And while I waited I was asked twice by different employees if I've been helped yet. My entire order was correct and look forward to trying this location again. read more

The fact that management has not responded to any of the low marks and bad comments on Yelp should give you an idea of the professionalism of this place. I will say that the remodel made the place look so much better but it is the overall experience I find not bueno. Most of the staff is pretty friendly but they have a hard time understanding English and harder time being understood. Add in a not so great drive-through call box and you can see how things fall down. Pet peeves. 1) I have a daughter and understand child care is expensive. But if you are going to have your kids sit in a booth while you work, please tell them to be respectful of the customers. This means no yelling and shouting to each other or you behind the counter, turn down the volume of your iPads and iphones and please no running around and rough housing. This happens pretty frequently at this location. 2) The price on the ice cream cone went up something like 40%. read more

This is the worst food vender I have ever been to! The lack of customer service from the daytime manager was disrespectful. As they laugh at customers and spit out the service window in- between cars in the drive thru. I also witnessed them using vulgarity around children. When I quickly questioned the manager for her actions and her lack of customer service. She was very disrespectful and refused to finish my order as well as provide me with her name. read more

I just went through the drive-thru and am very upset. I ordered a meal and was charged that price, but only got the sandwich. Then when I tried to call no one answered after 10 rings, so waited and called again. The location sucks, cause if you need to go back you have to do 2 U-turns. This is the second time this location has disappointed me, and it will be the last as I will never go there again. I also recommend others to try different locations or just anywhere else. read more

Difficult to communicate with, slow service and missing items all in the same trip! Very unfortunate.

I've noticed a change in the quality of the coffee, at the north San Pedro rd and Novato by Safeway mcdonalds: the coffee at the Novato one, has always been just horrible ( they sell old sour, coffee that should be thrown out). I think mcdonalds wants to phase out the 1 dollar coffee, with refills, by making it horrible. They also don't have the proper equip. to keep it fresh. All of md's items are extremely overpriced. If they think coffee drinkers won't be able to tell, the coffee quality has been tampered with, I think they are sorely mistaken. No wonder, at the Novato Md's, they ask you, if you want cream and sugar ( they don't leave it out, to save, money, they put the cream in it, for you-another annoying money saving policy). The first issue, is the horrible coffee quality. Please bring back a " good" cup of coffee: yes, for a dollar, and with refills- with the cream and sugar, out, so the consumer can put it in, themselves. Mc do lads is making a fortune on their other, very mediocre items, to justify, not, making a fortune, on a good cup of coffee. And, at 1 dollar a cup, that is a very good profit margin, in and of itself. Has anyone else noticed? I have noticed poor brewed coffee, at Starbucks, of all places, and Peets. Unfortunately, the best coffee drinks, are at the Honda dealership,in Sanrafael, and their not selling, you have to bring in your car, for service. Bravo to the Honda Dealership. read more
