Downtown Topeka is not for the faint of heart. We'll start there. After taking my daughter to Paw Patrol Live at the event center nearby she was hungry really wanted McDonald's. I was going to wait until the rest stop McDonald's along I-70 on the way home, but once we got into the car the need to use the restroom came up and I saw this one on the way to the highway entrance. Now, I've spent a lot of time in Topeka, and I know that there is a good deal of poverty, and homelessness downtown. I wasn't fully ready for how much the homeless population relies on this McDonald's location. From the moment I walked out of our car with my four year old the deserted nature of this part of downtown Topeka made me wonder if I'd made a big mistake already, but again she needed the restroom and we were here so we carried on. Once inside there were mostly folks loitering that were without shelter, nestled near the restrooms. These folks were not causing any issue, it just took me by surprise. I'm grateful that they feel safe here and that McDonalds is allowing the to use their restroom (and potentially giving them a coffee here or there), but the environment wasn't the most family friendly for my little one. That being said, we ordered, used the restroom (which was clean), and sat down next to a few other families that had clearly also just come from Paw Patrol Live. There are signs all over the place saying you can only sit for a certain amount of time, likely because of the unhoused population in this part of Topeka, which was striking to me as I'd never seen anything like that before. At any rate, our food came out fast, and my daughter was giddy with excitement over her hamburger. We ate, and went on our way with no issue. Now, I'm giving three stars for a few reasons: 1. the employees here were so kind, and helpful. 2. It was clean and easy to get in and out 3. Despite what is clearly an issue in this part of town, you can tell that these folks that work here are doing their best to treat people with respect and dignity and I think that's worth mentioning. read more

When I ordered the K-pop Demon hunters meal, I noticed that they were sold out of the box and when I looked inside the bag, there was no car and I have to get a refund and the Mc double had been eaten. This is a horrible place ever to go to in downtown. So please if your kid wants some meal they are out of the box and they are out of the cards and don't think about ordering a Mc double because that will happen to you too. read more

I paid cash. My bill was $4.47. I gave the lady six dollars asking for quarters for the parking meters across the street. She gave me a dollar bill, two quarters and three pennies. I asked her if she understood I was asking for change for the dollar. I don't believe I was snappy, but she got a serious attitude and I had to wait for six people to place their orders to get the quarters. The drawer open six times. to top it all off it took 15 minutes for me to get a caramel macchiato and they gave me the wrong size. read more

As far as McDonalds go, this one is a good choice - especially for breakfast on the way to work. There may be a drive thru line wrapping around the building, but it shouldn't deter you - it's generally no more than a 5 minute trip all the way around. And, they always smile and are really friendly which is nice in the early morning. The other times of the day I've been here, the service has been just as fast and friendly. This was the first eating establishment we found when we ventured out from the Capitol Plaza. Pro tip: this part of Topeka is not the best place to walk through. I tried get a handle on the local economy based on what I saw on the way to McDonald's: two flag stores, a vacuum repair stop, and more auto part stores than cars. I've still not got a handle on the economy. A group of seven of us showed up at 10:27, right before they dial the crank and stop serving breakfast for the day. Number 2 in line got hash browns, number 3 did not. Number 3 wasn't happy. After boozing the night before, I tried to stay a bit healthy and went with a side salad. I also had a hankering for sweet tea, which comes in one size: way too large. (side note: the beverage dispensers didn't seem to have a water option). It was tasty though. All said, I guess it's a standard McDonald's with a few touched of local flavor, like moose light enclosures (I can only assume they have mooses in Topeka). read more

Impatient workers. They cut off my boyfriend while he was ordering, didn't even wait for him to finish before they exited it and told us our total. We were told to pull to the side and wait which was expected and they brought out cold nuggets, no sauce, and the fries weren't salted. What made it worse was that they weren't even that busy. 10 cars tops. Terrible experience, worst experience I've ever had with fast food workers. read more

Worst experience EVER at a McDonalds!! There are a bunch of super rude extremely lazy people working at this location. Mocking customers and not striving to fix their mistakes. Their food is always stale tasting and all employees just stand around. Filthy bathrooms and overall restaurant. The 'manager' who looks like the villain from the Smurfs movie is extra special. A special kind of rude. I wouldn't allow my pets to step foot in this location. Cooperate really should reevaluate the standards by which this restaurant isn't following. read more

Today I waited for almost 10 minutes to wait on my food probably 4 or 3 employees seen me waiting but didn't come to ask if I need something. When I was ordering my food one of the lady's there was been grumpy and mad and so I kept paying and so she hand my money she just shoved its into my hand. I think that's very not polite or respectful but I wish they can see you and ask if you need anything. read more

Well, I went inside with a simple order. I also asked for some change, two gives for a ten. Got the order in a reasonable amount of time. Was left standing for longer than I needed to be. Apparently, whoever was in charge felt they were too busy too let someone else make change. read more

I like junk food sometimes. And I often times go to this branch later at night (I work 3rd shift), as some other locations do not serve chicken after midnight (huh?). When I go through the drive thru here I have found that there is a fairly consistent language barrier...so make sure to check to see if everythings as specified! I usually get the southern style chicken sandwich add mayo, a large fry and honey mustard, buffalo sauce and ketchup. If they get it right its pretty good, about what youd expect. I stress again MAKE SURE AND CHECK YOUR ORDER! It never fails, they misunderstand me so I dont get my mayo or sauces or they think I say 'tomato' instead of mayo....and sometimes they get pissed off if you complain and they add WAY too much mayo. So I always make sure its right before I drive away so I dont have to make an inconvenient trip back. But...thats the convenience tax I pay. Also, what is up with how they started charging you if you order more than ONE sauce?! C'mon!! read more

Had a very negative experience at lunch today! When I paid for my order with a $20, the cashier gave me change for a $10. I immediately, before leaving drive thru window #1 told her she gave me the wrong change. She immediately rolled her eyes and yelled for a manager, stating "I need my drawer pulled, they say they gave me a $20 but only gave me a $10." I immediately corrected her and advised her that I am not dishonest and would never do that. She rolled her eyes again and ushered us to window #2 to speak with a "manager". A lady walked up to the window, her words "so what's your problem?" with the same attitude and body language as the cashier, as if we were such a burden. Again explained to her the situation, she then ushered us to the drive-thru parking to wait for her to come out. We completed our meal in the parking lot then went inside. The "manager" rolled her eyes and proceeded to ignore us when we walked in. I then said, as she was passing by, that we had been waiting for 25 minutes outside, and it was quite a wait. She then stopped and with an attitude explained how "Doug" the GM had pulled the drawer and was currently checking it. During our first contact she had said she was the only manager. So we waited about 5 or 10 minutes just standing there when she finally asked another employee to go see if Doug had completed the check. The employee returned from the back and handed me $10 and walked away. No apologies, no explanation, nothing. So finally I asked so that's it? I'm called a liar, wait 30 minutes and not even an apology? SO as she faced away from me and looking at her order board she mumbled something, and I asked what she had said, she looked back towards us and said "sorry for your wait" with the same sarcastic attitude and behavior. read more
