I absolutely adore this place and all of the food is amazing. I wasn't super impressed with the lunch sandwich I had but if I'm coming here it's for breakfast and sweets. I noticed there were other reviews that mentioned some of the workers having an attitude, I've only had one bad experience and it was with an older woman there. She was completely rude and gave some mean glares while I was discussing what to order with my boyfriend the first time I was there, she then acted super rude while taking my order. For no reason. The other workers though I've always had a very positive experience and have been very accommodating. It can get pretty busy Saturday mornings and it's a smaller space so try to get there right when they open. I come here for any and all birthdays and when my sweet tooth kicks in (which is often!). read more

I like this Smyrna institution because it's an easy place to stop and feed my sugar addiction while grabbing a little wifi and clearing my desk of emails. Staff is very nice and very fast in getting people served. It doesn't really bother me that they're playing formulaic religious music on a small boom-box near the door. I heard so much about this bakery so I figured I'd try it out due to the holidays being near by. I walked in the bakery the food looks appealing. I smelled hot soup the second I walked in the door and the sound of Christmas music playing. I was invite to a Christmas party and figured I'd pick up something from here. I purchased a 1 layer strawberry cake just moments before the party. The cake looked great they the case - strawberry is my favorite. It was very embarrassing cutting this cake at the party. I received so much negative feedback. After cutting the cake you can see how dry the cake is. It tasted as if the cake was cooked - then left out - then frozen - then left back out. I have been a customer of McEntyre's for over thirty-five years. When they moved to their present location a few years ago and began serving lunch was exciting for me. When we drop by for lunch, we usually order the weekly lunch special. This is the most reasonable lunch price we have found anywhere and, on top of that, it is always quite tasty. I usually top off my lunch with a cinnamon fry while my wife favors the other pastry items. Over the years, I have bought several sheet cakes. They have always been excellent. Cookies and pies have been bought occasionally and have always been enjoyed. My humble opinion is that this is the best bakery in metro Atlanta area. After spending a few hours with my best friend and her parents looking at wedding dresses for her upcoming nuptials, we arrived here for a wedding cake tasting. I've driven past this place before a long time ago, but never gave it much thought. It's a little 'hole in the wall' type of place, so surely it wouldn't be packed, right? Imagine my surprise when throughout our visit, business was very steady, and there seemed to be no down time for the workers there. Maybe it could be advertising or maybe it's word of mouth, but this place definitely does good business. There were too many treats to name, and I actually didn't have any because of the wedding cake tasting, but because we arrived early, I did try their homemade chicken salad croissant meal, that's served with a drink and your choice of either chips or pasta. I chose the pasta and it was pretty good, as was the chicks salad croissant. The employees were all friendly and made sure everyone was taken care of and patiently waited for those who were still deciding on what they wanted to order. They even let me use their employee restroom. Most counties are required to have public restrooms and in was surprised that because this was an eatery that there went any public ones, but just ask and they won't mind. Melissa helped guide us through the cake tasting, as she was very knowledgable. My friend had spoken with her ahead of time to let her know what she was looking for and Melissa had everything she wanted ready to try, along with a few other tasty options. Brandon is excellent to work with if you have a vision for a custom cake and pricing for custom work is less than you'd pay at an upscale, more well known bakery. They are easy to deal with, welcome photos and meetings of the mind as well as offering expert opinions on styles and approach. This cozy little shop has been around for a long time. They've been here since 1940-something. So they must have been a Smyrna institution. The people here are nice, and they bring their Southern charm. I've gotten quite a bit of baked goods from here, from wedding cakes to cupcakes, pettifors, etc. I'm not a fan of this place. Since they've been around since the 40's, they do taste a bit old fashioned--kinda like what your Old, Southern grandmother would've eaten in the 50's. I'm not sure if they updated their recipes. First of all, most of their cakes have some hint of citrus in them. I'm not sure what that is. Some people might like that, but I'm not a fan. Also, their cakes seem dry and stale. I don't know why. They never had that moist, heavenly feeling when I bite into it. They also don't have that much sweetness. That might be a positive for a lot of people. Overall, when I eat their cakes, I feel like I'm eating a dry, stale, not-too-sweet cake with a hint of lemon. I think most of the modern bakeries blow them away with decadance and sweetness. Sure, the modern ones are probably more unhealthy for you compared to McEntyres, but these are cakes, not health food. They should be sinful and heavenly, not taste like stale bread. They are affordable and friendly. I'm not a fan of their baked goods though. read more

Wow! We were in town to see a doctor near here and I stumbled across this bakery. Ordered the cinnamon glazed flying discs! Not what they're called but they look like a bear claw just a bit smaller and not as defined. As I was checking out I asked to get and try one of the vanilla cake squares with vanilla frosting. It was in, swallowed and ENJOYED(!!!) thoroughly! Delicious. Lots of cookies pastries etc. All looked great. Sandwiches seem a thing there too, but it was the sweets that captured this eye. Popped in for the first time today after visiting Wallpaper and Stuff, and I'm sorry I didn't stop here sooner. My husband and I picked out a variety of treats and savory: famous cheese straws, chicken pot pie, macaroni and cheese, red velvet cupcake, lemon square, Bavarian cream donut, chocolate glazed donut, apple fritter, slice of heaven, and a few other misc things. Everything here is absolutely outstanding. Popped the macaroni and cheese in toaster oven at 375 for about 20. Came out perfect. Meanwhile, we sampled pieces of the other items and there is no other place that compares. A true gem in Smyrna. I will be returning! read more

I ordered a small turtle cake as a birthday cake. It is DELICIOUS! the yellow cake is light and moist, and the caramel is creamy and melts in your mouth. The chocolate and walnuts atop the cake makes it even better. (You can get just a plain caramel cake, but there's nothing "plain" about it.) While I was waiting, I tasted the pumpkin bread and apple bread samples. Both were awesome as well. This is a local neighborhood bakery that I was excited to try! I was looking forward to satisfying my sweet tooth! Staff- VERY Friendly, sweet and pleasant. Desserts- I arrived at the bakery at 5:45pm and knew that they closed at 6pm. I also knew that getting FRESH pastries would be slim pickings. What I did not expect was to receive stale pastries with a horrible after taste. I ordered the red velvet and carrot cake (cupcakes), a turtle brownie and a double chocolate chip cookie. All of my pastries were presented well. However the taste of these pastries was horrible. The cupcakes tasted as if they were not covered while the staff cleaned the counters with cleaning spray. I took one bite out of the stale turtle brownie and double chocolate chip cookie and discarded them! Return visit?!- I would definitely not return to this bakery. It turns out that they have been in business for many, many years. They have so much to choose from. If you are craving just a bite of cake for that sweet tooth issue that keeps popping up, stop by and take care of that craving. They have bites of cake to humongous cakes! Just need a one layer cake, they have got you covered. You can order or just take the time to go in for a quick bite. They have salads and sandwiches as well. This place has gone downhill since the new owners have taken over. I do like the single sweets in the counter but the cakes.... The last 3 birthday cakes I have bought there were ok at best. Icing was tasty but the cake itself seemed like it had been sitting there for a couple days. The first time I cut into it, it crumbled. Totally dried out. Very Disappointing. I gave them 3 strikes to change me but I'm not going to buy another birthday cake there. Someone needs to open another locally owned bakery in Smyrna. I really love this local bakery! My favorite thing they carry is their pimento cheese, chicken salad and mini croissants. It's so delicious to have those for lunch during the week. Their baked goods selection is pretty extensive. I am not a personal fan of the doughnuts as they are a bit too sweet for me (think more Krispy Kreme style glaze) but I always give them as gifts to people with a big sweet tooth and they love them! I am a foster child and I snuck out to buy a cake from McEntyre's. When I got there Kaley and Kaitlyn went out of their way to make sure my cake was perfect. They are light, buttery and perfect with egg and cheese or with their yummy chicken or egg salad. I also dare you to try and resist a sweet while you're waiting for your order. The foods here are not only great quality, but they have items I just don't see anywhere else that are just delicious. The peanut butter bars are so good! They are like a bar version of a peanut butter cookie that is iced with a peanut butter frosting. SO good! I just wish they offered them with a fudge-and-peanut butter frosting! Another favorite is the "TV Bar." It is a long, narrow piece of devils food cake, topped with creme, and coated in fudge. Whoa! Seriously good. The birthday cakes they made for my daughters this year were the most delicious, beautiful cakes we have ever gotten. Ryan was so nice with the custom order. The best cake we have gotten there was a sour cream pound cake with cream cheese icing. This is an old southern favorite traditional cake, and McEntyre's was even better than my Granny's. Ok McIntyre's... Here's the deal! I love the bakery items here so I decide to try lunch & eat in the bakery for the 1st time today. Here's my experience: I arrive at 12:00.. There's a woman behind the counter on the phone & one washing dishes, & there's a gal waiting to be served...After 10 minutes I say "excuse me" to the one washing pans & she turns & looks at me. No hello or may I help you... She slowly & without a smile or apology helps us ..I fill up my Coke & sit it down to grab a napkin & another employer proceeds to accidentally push my drink over the edge. Coke everywhere.. Do I hear an "I'm sorry" ? No ! Is it possible to hire pleasant smiling faces???? I have to go home now & change my Coke splattered clothes. Don't make it so difficult to be supportive of small local businesses!! read more

I'm tired - so this one's gonna be brief. Well . . . at least briefer than some of my other tirades and diatribes. Went here because I was craving sweet potato pie - and NO ONE seems to keep them in stock. Apparently this is a pumpkin pie town. Blech! Any way - stopped in and I was ignored by four young women chatting with one another behind the counter. And a young man on his cell phone. Once I made it known that I was ready to order - they were friendly enough . . . so maybe they were trying to give me time to browse . . . some sort of 'no pressure' bakery experience. Who knows. But acknowledge me when I come in the door, please. When inquiring about the pies (and a couple of interesting looking cakes) I asked how fresh they were / when were they baked. I was told that "they didn't know" because the pies were baked offsite, "down at the kitchen" then brought to them frozen. The cashier did go on to say that they pulled them from the freezer as needed and thawed them - and she did offer to call "down to the kitchen" to find out if they could tell her when the pies were baked. Pay attention children - this time I'm giving you all this detail for a reason. I wound up purchasing a turkey & cheese sandwich (they have a variety of pre-packaged box lunches), chips and my much sought after sweet potato pie. The potato pie was somewhat smaller than a standard pie and I thought it was priced a little high especially when I compared to the other offerings which were very inexpensive. Sidenote - they have a 'day old' table with lots of really cheap baked goods. So I ate my sandwich and chips and cut myself one tiny sliver of pie because I was pretty full from the chips. It was okay. Not very rich - but decidely better than the ones Kroger and Publix hawk this time of year. But here's where it gets ugly. The next day - I came home, made a quick dinner of italian sausage and bowtie pasta and when I got ready for dessert, I opened my pie box to cut myself another slice - and the pie was covered in 4 great big ameoba shaped blobs of mold. Ew! There is no way that mold hadn't already started to grow on the piece that I'd eaten the day before. Oh well - I guess I got some homemade penicillin out of it. Blech. Blech. Double Blech. Not sure why I'm not giving them two stars - maybe it's because it's the holidays and I'm feeling generous. Maybe it's because, when I was a college student, I used drop in all the time, and I remember some very tasty muffins, zuchini bread, etc - so unless they changed some recipes . . .I think the baked goods are fairly decent. I'm wondering is it fairly standard practice to bake, freeze then thaw out as needed. Some of the other bakeries I've frequented have made a big deal about how they come in before the crack of dawn and bake everything fresh. That seems a little hard to believe now that I have time to think about it. I mean - do you donate or trash all the stuff that doesn't sell each day? How would you turn a profit. Okay . . . so now that I'm done reviewing in train of thought . . . Cant' say I won't ever go back - but will definitely stick to the regular pastries! read more

I hate to write this review, as I've been a life-long customer of this place and I've continuously made excuses for them. However, it just has to be said. This place has gone severely downhill over the past few years from what it used to be. It came back strong again for a while from about March-September 2019, but since then it has dropped even harder. These issues are pre-Covid is my point. They are completely unorganized and disheveled constantly. The turnover is ridiculous. Most of the good crew they used to have is long gone. They can't answer simple questions. Trying to place an order for a lunch special, whether in person or over the phone, is like pulling teeth. Try to call them and see how long it takes to get someone or see how long they place you on a "brief" hold for. They can't handle a lunch crowd, and the way the place is set up is not good for trying to order lunch too. People cut in line, people get helped before others that were previously there, people take up the lunch line trying to place cake and cookie orders and so on. They need to have separate quick service lunch and more "custom" or party order lines. The employees, for the most part, are no longer friendly, nor do they know anything about what they are selling. You have to grab the sides yourself now when you get the combo. They also can't remember what their weekly combo even is, fairly often. The baked goods are often stale, old and dry. They don't put any date markings on the bread they sell. You can buy it and it will be bad a day later. Clearly, this company just doesn't really care anymore and is just living off of its Smyrna legacy. Before too long, those legacy customers won't be around anymore. I'm done with this place. read more
